May the 4’s be with you
I’m rested from my vacation, got my new Booman mug, my Big Brother live-feeds are down for the day, and I’m all yours!
In a little while I’m going to move outside for some patio blogging and sudoku puzzle-solving. What are your plans?
Thanks for the reminder to visit the store, Katie.
I didn’t want to order while on vacation – better get on with it now.
I think I’m going to print an larger copy of this photo and hang it on the wall. After viewing it about 1000 times today, I’m beginning to really like it.
(now to find the unreduced original)
Sadly, it’s not to be. I took it at too low a resolution. Oh. Well.
include taking my son to his tae kwon do place and stopping by the Habitat for Humanity retail store to see if I can find a wooden mantle to replace my wimpy, mass produced 1980’s one.
Other than that, some buy one get one free porterhouse steaks for the grill, and watching my daughter lug her laundry home from college and spend the day up to her elbows in Tide and Downy seems to be it for us.
Now where is the Entenmanns’s cheese-filled crumb cake at?…
not that I can actually EAT a cheese coffee cake…every now and then I just like to take a whiff of one. Unfortunately it’s just oatmeal and coffee for me. Sigh.
Love the Habitat for Humanity store near us- I just got side rails and slats for a queen bed there last week for 8 bucks. I needed them to put together an old headboard and footboard that a friend had parked in the barn 10 years ago…it is looking beautiful in my bedroom this morning!
I don’t have any Entenmann’s, but I did make an apricot nectar cake this morning…just need to put the glaze on, and we’re set!
That sounds like a fun day to me.
There are Habitat for Humanity retail stores? I had no idea!
I wonder if there is one anywhere near Kansas City?
They’re called Habitat Reuse centers. It’s great for things like kitchen sinks, hardwood floors, architectural things like mantlepieces or windows, etc. And you know it’s going to a great cause.
We’re donating our piano to them next month. It’s a great way to re-cycle things you are finished with that someone else could use!
They DO have one in Kansas City!
Maybe I’ll try to go later today?
I wanna go, too! I can’t do it today, but I am eager to hear about it if you go.
Good morning!
One in Wichita as well.
For those handful of you who do not reside in Kansas π – they have other stores too – I believe a full list can be found here
http://www.re-store.com/other_locations.htm
does kind of a funky loadup thing (scrolls through states) – but let the page load and the info you clicked on will show.
lol! It is a coincidence that all three Democrats in Kansas wound up at this site.
now now – there’s at LEAST a couple hundred of us π
Are you in Kansas, too, soulforce??
OMgosh! How’d I miss that? So we’ve got one Wichita, one Overland Park, one Prairie Village, and one just outside of Lawrence. All in the east part of the state so far, which figures.
Hi kansas!
I didn’t end up going. We had to go to 5 stores to complete what I thought was 1 errand — it took hours!
Now I’m off for another little while to wrap presents.
(I promise I’ll be back soon)
We’ve given them light fixtures that we changed.
.
Nice opening for a pleasant day of activities Katiebird.
However, I have a date:: let me look who else have arrived …
<click pic – of course it’s fresh – .au>

… and I didn’t forget
for a bit later in the afternoon …
~~~
Gray Goose and OJ, breakfast of champions!
(Think I need to make a stop at the liquor store today…)
Man, my breakfast of champions:
1 1/2 oz vodka
3 oz tomato juice
1 dash lemon juice
1/2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
2 – 3 drops Tabasco® sauce
1 lime wedge
Shake all ingredients (except lime wedge) with ice and strain into an old-fashioned glass over ice cubes. Add salt and pepper to taste. Add the wedge of lime and serve.
I’ve got some orange zest cheesecake. Can I join ya?? π
.
I love it – there is plenty and always a spot for the good crowd with the soothing tale.
~~~
Warning, I talk with my hands… alot π Can result in a messy picnic π
Our plans include cleaning the house for a small dinner party a (4 people total) and baking some blonde-toffee brownies.
It’s raining here, which means the people participating in the Dream Cruise (an annual Motown event) are getting soaked. I must admit that the thought is making me chuckle.
I’d love to have the recipe.
This is the first time I’ve tried it. If they taste good, I will share it. I subscribe to Cooking Light, so it cane from there. Most of their recipes I have tried have been really good.
Cooking light is my favorite cooking mag-if they’re good, you’ll have to tell me which issue.
I don’t know if anyone is around, but the brownies turned out yummy, so here is the link for the recipe.

I know I’ll get little sympathy, but not only has Big Brother shut off the live feeds to protect the suspense for tonight’s show, but our local CBS station has postponed the show in favor of a football game until 2:00 AM tonight!
I’m in shock.
I’ll be back in an hour or so.
I’ll have a green tea w/lemon ginseng and oolong tea consecutively.
We have another sick toto today.
You may notice his cute rump-in-air posture, the typical canine play-bow in this Thursday shot. Alas, this was our first sign of trouble.
You see, this toto has been snacking inappropriately, on the sly, at the beach cafe. He’s been eating sand and stones and probably some seashell bits. And by Thursday evening he was paying the price.
Yesterday the vet found that, between his tummy and tail, he’s basically concrete. They gave him a mild giddyup to start things moving and, after considerable insistence from us, some pain relief. As soon as we got the pain pill down him he slept like a log all day. He’d probably been awake long hours in discomfort.
This morning we’ll learn if nature is going to take a benign course or if we have to get more aggressive.
Poor puppy. I guess this proves that you are what you eat. I hope everything moves along fine for your pretty pooch.
Especially if what you eat is concrete fixins.
Toto woke up perky and ready to be weaned back onto food: some broth, and 1/4 of his usual solid food. Nature has begun taking its course, and he is a productive little sand factory. We think he’s been attracted to sand in a parking lot that may have traces of sweet anti-freeze on it, because he doesn’t seem to go for beach sand. We’ll be a lot more careful with him on the way to the beach now, for two reasons.
While walking we spotted the World’s Slowest Porno:
“Oh…………………………………………………………………………………….
……………………………………………………………………………………….
……………………………………………………………………………………….
……………………………………………………………………………………baby
!”
… slug sex!!!
According to this description I found, you can take all the time you need to get a picture.
“…majestically circling one another and ceremoniously rasping each other’s flanks while they solemnly wave their enormous penises overhead…”
This makes me want to be a teenager again. Sigh.
This makes me want to be a teenager again. Sigh.
Okay, now I’ve got some really interesting thoughts going through my head about what your teenage years might have been like.
LOL. Let’s just say I came out of 8 years of catholic schooling and into a public high school…so I had a lot of guilt and repression to make up for.
of high school, you should watch the documentary “Microcosmos” — you’ll be drowning in nostalgia (and now I’ve switched to imagining your high school reunions).
[Note: if you haven’t seen Microcosmos, it is a really good flick.]
Hope he feels better. Sand, stones and shells? Maybe the dog food needs an upgrade? π Poor doggy… keep us updated
Our dog eats catlitter surprise and pine needeles. Then she lays down by ya and squeezes out a hellacious fart. UGH
Toto dogs are basically pretty sensible dogs, but if left outdoors a lot, they’ll chow down on the mice and similar vermin they were bred to catch among the stone walls and cairns of Scotland. Hence the breed name Cairn Terrier.
But if they do that, says the vet, their 15-17 year lifespan gets cut in half. Our one-eyed toto had had too much mouse and snake and developed pancreatitis, requiring a bland diet. He’s doing fine now.
The other toto, the rescue dog we got last year, has to eat the same diet so that one-eye isn’t tempted to eat his buddy’s stools if we miss a pickup. New guy doesn’t like the restricted diet much, and that’s part of the problem.
The second part as I said is we suspect some auto antifreeze on the patch of parking lot sand he tries to lick, because he doesn’t seem to go for it anywhere else. Part 3 is that all these dogs love shellfish, and try to eat barnacles, mussles and bits of broken not-so-fresh clams dropped on roadways by gulls and crows. He may have shell bits in there dating back who knows how far.
Ah well, it’s just nature’s way of telling me to neglect my paying customers a few more days.
Good day all, I happened by this place and I saw the sign for free coffee and tea and just couldn’t resist.
I am leaving in a few minutes to take my daughter Shanna who is 30 today, shopping for her present and maybe one for me too as I have always thought mothers should get presents on their children’s birthdays.. after all mothers did the work to bring them into the world!
Have a great time today, will stop back in later and sure hope the missing ‘infidel’ checks in by the time I get back…..
yeppers, I’m back, been a hot long week but it’s time for a two day break ; )
Hey IP, good to see you!
I just wanted to tell you that I got to read your 2 wolves diary (I was on vacation when you posted it; but chocolate ink pointed it out in a comment the other day). It was so good I emailed it to a few friends and printed it out for my son to read. Hope you don’t mind!
that’s what it was meant for, sharing ; )
glad you enjoyed it, thanks for the compliment
You got a new name = iPig π
hmmm..sorta like “I-Robot” but more down to earth, “I-Pig” ; )
LMAO
I have always thought mothers should get presents on their children’s birthdays
Absolutely! Happy birthday to you and your daughter, Diane!
A classic Pac NW late summer near-water morning scene. Signs point to a clear warm afternoon, possibly hot for this region, into the 80’s.
With Toto passing his crisis, we’re off on Saturday errands and then back for overdue searching of Microsoft’s networking procedures & choices relating to our new DSL vs. our existing in-home lan, which now is sometimes disrupted if we turn off the DSL router. Having been a former tech and lan supporter, I’m disturbed by the way their defaults and introductory explanations blur the concepts and terminology. What I want is the lan to run 24/7 with the DSL only briefly when we choose. But swtiching off the DSL router often (erratically) locks up the lan requiring rebooting.
Looks like another great one in the foothills…hi around 80, light breezes and the ubiquitous chance of T-storms in the PM:

Life is good
If the iPig stops by tell him they need his assistance w/ Carlito out in LA :{)
Off on Sat. errands, Farmers Mrkt, Liquid Mart, Brewing Mrkt (coffee) etc.
Have a good one! Later
Peace
LMAO…I got some therapy for them ; )
Yo Pig! Good to see ya bro…you can’t make this kind-a-shit up, they’d throw you off the bus…and I thought Boulder got wierd…Ha!
Here’s another little amusement I dropped off in another thread that might get more appreciation here:
W’s Weekly Radio Address
Catch ya this evening if you’re about…:{)
Enjoy
Peace
I’ll be stopp’n back in tonight, hope to catch ya around…
later bro…peace
Thanks for the coffee! It’s sensational! What kind is it, Katie?
I’m taping Lifetime movies for my daughter. She’s really sick – bad sinus infection and chest cold — and when she’s that out of it, she loves dopey Lifetime movies (and People magazine!, plus juice).
Right now, on the bedroom TV, I’m taping the DIVA of Lifetime movies, Judith Light, this time in a prison drama.
Thankfully, on the TV in the livingroom, near my ‘puter, I’ve got Helen Caldicott on CSPAN2…. but Darcy wouldn’t want me to tape that right now π
True confessions: I like those movies too sometimes. True escape stuff! And some of the stories are quite interesting. Judith Light is a heck of an actress, imho.
It’s an amazing fact that at the Froggy Bottom, each cup is your own personal favorite bean — Roasted, Brewed and Served just the way you like it!
Plans: to take the kids to the library to turn in their Summer Reading Logs. Danni read over 1,400 pages and Wes barely made a 1k. Their award will be a book purchased for the library in their name. Wicked cool π
And we are taking a summer’s worth of redeemables to the center. Stinky poo!
They are working on our back deck… again.
Last night I finally called and told my mom that her only two kids will be marching in DC. She tried to talk me out of it “you have kids! they need you! (blha blah) and then something miraculous happened. Something that rarely occurs between me and my mom… She started to cry and said that she was proud of us. She said I was always, since a little girl, the warrior in the family. She said she too feels this is something I need to do.
She called me last night several times (normally she doesn’t call) and she was watching the tv for news of Cindy Sheehan. Now she’ll be calling the media and demanding thei air this fight. π
My Mom’s onboard. π
Janet, I’m so happy for you (these are happy tears, really).
I think I’ve cried more over Cindy Sheehan stories than almost any other story. I don’t even try to read them aloud anymore — I can’t make it through without sobbing. I’m not surprised at all that your mother has connected with you on this.
She’s been very ill and very… “critical” of her children. Think, What’s Eating Gilbert Grape and that’s my life story growing up.
Yeah, she’s all over this Sheehan stuff and she’s always been a Democrat. Sadly, the family surrounding her up north are all Bush-loving Talibaptists.
I go from excitement to tears in a few seconds. π
WOW! That is the most beautiful story. Tell your mom we think she’s pretty cool.
And good for your kids for reading so much! And helping the library!
I told the Librarian about Whispering Campaign today, too. We love libraries and librarians. I got to hug one of the librarians from the DKos a few Sundays ago.
The kids are super readers. It’s in their genes π
Yup, two military brats growing up and marching against the CIC. π
Wow! 1,400 pages. If only my students read that much in their whole high school career – without assignment
P.S. Teachers I know are dreading 2009 because that’s after the deadline for requiring all students to pass the WASL test in order to graduate. …. there’ll be a WHOLE BUNCH of kids left behind then. Gawd.
Even worse, 2014 when every child in American is supposed to pass all standardized tests given to them.
I have it on the highest authority that the science portions will be fair, balanced, and I (shall we say?) “straightforward.”
My daughter enhales books. She’s 10 and my son is 12. His school got upset because he read too many books by Ian Fleming (there’s only 6 of em) and Jules Verne and such… they wanted him to expand… so then he got frustrated and finally this summer he’s happy about reading. LOL
Can you imagine telling a child to NOT read? ACK
Never! That reminds me of To Kill a Mockingbird when Scout’s teacher tells her to tell Atticus to stop reading to her.
Janet, good news about your Mother, very cool and I bet you are happy at this turn of events with her, from knowing things you have mentioned….
Good for our kids with their reading.
We need to get a roster going of who is planning on being there in DC and in Texas as well.
That was supposed to be good for ‘your’ kids for reading not our kids.
Well, they are all our kids π At least I wish that’s how everyone felt about all the children. π
cskendrick has a very impressive first diary up right now, about the changes in credit charges. It’s thorough, and scary. LINK
Hope everyone is having a good Saturday and all is well.
Hey everyone who was trying to change the google click ads, I just noticed that on the page where I was talking about Seth and Jane Roberts, the ads all turned to them…
Happy Sat. night, Sun. morning everyone.
Now that’s cool. Who’d have thought there would be Seth click ads?
