Another lazy summer Sunday sees the Café open its doors. C’mon in, froggers and froggettes, take a seat and put your feet up. Your host today will be bustling in and out and about the place, since Sunday is the day for household odds & ends around the monastery. It’s another warm one here in the Nation’s Capital, but looking ahead to the temps the rest of this week, I’m going to go out on a limb and say that the worst of this summer’s heat is past. /BroFel furiously touches wood
Speaking of which city, no doubt all you out there in Progressive Blogspace have heard of the rally and march planned for Saturday, the 24th of September right here in DC. Some info can be found at United for Peace and Justice, CodePink, and upcoming.org. This is shaping up to be a big one, folks! If we’re witnessing now the turn of the tide, late September could see that tide at full flood.
In any event, today’s Café is open! What’s on your mind today?
After hearing rave’s about Peet’s in the Café a while back, I picked up a bag (whole bean, of course) this past week. The plain ol’ house blend. Nice stuff!
Morning all continental Americas…..evening all other halfers of the world…good morning Brother.
Ohhhhh at last the cafe is open, I have been standing out front here for hours…..lol. Hope the coffee is ready and the pastries delivered.
I see Ipig, is on site and can’t wait for his visit to the cafe, we miss you so much Mr. P. when you are not here.
I’m such a slacker, D! Sorry to keep you waiting … but I can assure you the coffee’s piping-hot, and the scent of the fresh pastries is making me slaver.
Yes here I was madly clicking and refreshing the site, Iknow it has to be here, just can’t see it and then lo and behold…..lol
Oh please pass the pastries on over here and maybe a nice omlette.
Guess Ipig has the dibs onthe baileys and coffee, wonder if he would share a bit.
Approaching IPig’s vat o’ coffee & Bailey’s is like approaching the zebra carcass while the head lion’s still feeding; do so at your own risk. Might be best to wait ’til he’s had his fill.
GGRRRRRRRRRRRRR…and then I grab them by the back of the neck….. ; )
LMAO on that comment Brother, the visual alone was just stunning…wouldn’t want to tackle that Lion, unless he was willing to share.
Boy that food looks lovely and I am eating the appetizer tray right now with the stuffed potatoe skins (left over from Black Angus dinner) and now will dig into your great repast.
Morning, Brother! Ah, another Peets convert. I think I caught the Gilmore Girls making some of it in their kitchen yesterday. They must have it shipped in. 🙂
The brunch looks yummy. I think I’ll have some Eggs Benedict to fuel me for working. Did you make that Hollandaise sauce yourself, Bro? Thanks, and see you guys later.
Seems like forever since I’ve filled an order at the Café.
Save me from the cholesterol demons, but I do have a weakness for a good rich lemony hollandaise. To make matters worse, a local restaurant that serves up a mighty fine Eggs Benedict is relocating just across the street from my house! Ooooooh, my arteries!
Hoooooooooooo Laaaaaaaaaaawd this ol’ boy needs some coffee/Bailey’s this morn’n…and keep it com’n..
Gonna be hot here at the swamp today, but hell, it’s the season..and I’m wait’n for some fresh gator ; )
There’s a bottomless pot with your named engraved on it.
thank ya brother, your a gem ; ) Aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh, that’s good
Just when I thought I would never see ‘Hoooooooooooo Laaaaaaaaaaawd ‘on the site again, there it is and you with your new name ‘Ipig’ as Dada has christened you, which is kinda of like an Ipod, but ‘southern fried’.
So you gonna have a gator barbecue today, Mr. P.
For all you people living in hot areas of the country, today in Socal is overcast and cool. We are expecting our heat wave in Sept. and Oct. right before “winter” starts here in Dec. Yeah it gets real cold then, down to 60’s, can’t wait!
Hey Lady, yeps, check’n in on Sunday, and not sure bout the gator later, only if I get a volunteer ; )
probably just yard-bird today on the grill..and some rest
If you had recommended the previous Café diary, please unrecommend it. We’ve got yesterday’s & today’s on the Rec List right now. Thank you! The Management
Mornin’ Miss Diane, Bro,an da iPig…think I’ll have what the Pig’s havin’…and keep-em coming :{)
Heads up with the pup, I think maybe your dinner may be “volunteering”:
Carlito
Peace
Mornin, Mr. Dada, oh dear I think I see Ipig heading this way, he spotted the gator…..oh no, there is some fight going on, can’t see for the dirt churned up, it’s clearing now,……oh my coming out of the dust is GATOR BOY, and he has the gator by the tail!!!
Yo dada…good to hear from ya this morn’n bro….ooohhh dat gator…Hoooooo Laaaawwd now dats gonna be some good eat’n…
I done “changed up my mind” and gonna put some tail on da grill ; )
(a little take on the “changed up my mind”, when my son was little I would tell him not to do something, and it would’nt be just a lil’ bit, and there he was, doing it..LMAO..I would ask him why he was doing the opposite of what I said, his reply was: “I just changed up my mind daddy”….kids…they say the darnest things…Art Linkletter )
Missed the fun in yesterday’s Cafe — sorry folks!
Yesterday was an out and about day in the Scribe household. The spouse and I went and got ourselves prettied up for our upcoming vacation; he got his hair cut, I got a trim and blonde highlights which came out really well! Then I came home and took a nap; a friend of ours was in town from NYC for the weekend, so I knew we’d be up late watching slides of trains. It was actually a Part Deux of a show he put on in January; Kodak had lost several rolls of his slide film from the trip, but they mysteriously turned up. Some very beautiful scenery from the outlands of China; it was an area that had been using steam engines for service but has since discontinued them, so three of our crew went out to get the steam action on film before it was too late. And it was quite cold, too…zero Farenheit and worse. The lengths railfans will go still amazes me…fortunately the spouse isn’t quite that mania (just bringing home too many books and magazines…).
Got a bit of a headache from the late night, so will be taking it relatively easy today.
Have a good one, folks… 🙂
(lights a whole bundle of fire crackers and toss’ them in the door of the cafe.)
(chuckl’n) see if this wakes them up ; )
Dude! Watch it with the pyrotechnic displays, huh?
BUWWAHAHHAHAHAHAHAH….it woke someone up ; )
uh…btw..was that a future pic of Bush’s ass those firemen were work’n on …; )
he spontaneously combusted according to reports, but he’s still pulling the strings through the White House Ouija board.
I think it was McClellan: all the spinning he was doing on an hourly basis caused him to combust from friction.
Is there a pyro man in the house?
I was just outside by the pool and I heard this loud noise coming from inside, what was it…..oh no not the Ipig again…or more likely gator boy, btw is it gator or gater…..
Hi Sven, how you doing, are you happy the Ipig is here…I know you were missing him the other day..
Now you fellas can do some carousing again, hurry before he has to hit the sack, you know he needs to get to bed early at his age.
Well, Diane, I’d be tempted to join those two in their shenanigans, if I weren’t hosting. As it is I’m going to keep the fire extinguisher handy. And a mop & bucket, too — who knows what they’re capable of!
mmmmmmmmmm, things could get messy…yeppers…LOL
but you’ll have a break for a few days, as I’ll be gone early in the morning again, for the week, but watch out next weekend…LMAO ; )
peace to all….later gator

Trust you don’t mind a review of some highlights, Dutch Women Field Hockey:
.
Meeting the challenge of all time favorites, the Dutch women’s field hockey team beat Germany by scoring twice witin the first quarter and consolidating their defense to retain victory 2-1. BTW this was the first counter goal of the Championship.
European Hockey Dublin, Ireland
Three of my favorite players are Fatima Moreira de Melo, Leontine Voskamp and Minke Smabers, from their days as youth hockey players at their clubs Victoria – Rotterdam, HCKZ and HDM in The Hague. Fatima as model!

I don’t know how big women’s field hockey is over there, but I do know that anytime the Dutch beat the Germans, it’s a big deal. Aanvalluuuuuuuh!
Yes, yes, I know, wrong sport, but the sentiment is right!
Or in this case, the boom.
A repost of a Pelee Island (Lake Erie) vacation evening in the Land of the Free from around 10 years ago. It’s a charter; such a boat cost about the same as our house did! But the mileage is great. We spent $3 for 10 days’s gas.
We had a light working Sunday today at chez Gooserock, with Ma continuing to downsize her posession roster as Pa constructed some jigs and fixtures to speed up the family craft business.
–Interspersed with naps and doggie tummy rubs, of course.
