There’s been a lot of talk about the big March in Washington DC on September 24. For all those going, travel safely and bring back lots of stories (and pictures).
But a lot of us can’t make it to DC…Some of us are financially challenged, or time challenged. Many of us have responsibilities to others that we cannot in good conscience ignore. There are even those who are physically, mentally, or emotionally unable to travel that far, whether alone or with others.
So what do we do? Do we just sit home and watch for coverage of the march in the MSM?
If you go to the United for Peace and Justice website, you can find a list of activities in your area, or if not in your exact area, maybe there’s one a little closer than DC.
If DC is the only place with significant activity, it’ll be easy for the right-wingers, the Bushites, and the MSM to dismiss the action as a bunch of smelly hippies without jobs. But if the sound of marching feet in DC is echoed on the streets in AnyTown USA, that’s got to make people stand up and take notice…including those who may be on our side but too afraid to make their feelings known.
The spouse and I will be marching in San Francisco on September 24th…I invite everyone to join us in the city of your choice.
Blessings and peace to all the world…

I will be on the corner of 6th and larel in Balboa Park, downtown San Diego at 2pm. The whole world’s watching.
I found out about the march here through the DNC local website. They can be great information sources for events and meetups, candidate speeches etc.
Anyone in the San Diego county area or wants to drive down, let me know and we can meet up!
I suggest if you are in a very small town have a small gathering on a prominent street corner. Just make it a Peace Vigil! Travel safely to those venturing to DC or the bigger rallies in LA or SFO. Namiste!
could bootrib-nap you all and take you with us.
AlohaLeezy, will wear my Booman T with intense pride! Haven’t received it yet, will check this afternoon’s mail 🙂 Gawd I wish everyone could come.
Never did anything to this scale… and it won’t come easily – I’m terrified of the flight over and back (pesky nightmares)
But I am so looking forward to meeting people there and I’m constantly amazed at people’s warmth and generosity and support. Such as shycat! WOW!
No money, no time but this family is sending ONE off to DC 🙂
Damnit Janet…should be there today I would guess. I mailed it first thing Friday morning(maybe Thurs…can’t remember). I too will wear my Booman shirt just as I did in Crawford, proudly. We are all in this together whether we are out on the streets, shouting from the rooftops or telling our neighbor of the true nature of this administration.
Let’s Roll!!
What? I am having a BALL!! Enjoying this immensely!
No advice on the flight anxiety– I just HATE flying. Did I mention I was on seven friggin airplanes during the two weeks after 9/11?AAAAGH.
SEVEN right after?? Dang! You ARE very brave 🙂
I expect that the “terra lerts” will rise that week in an effort to scare everyone from traveling/protesting/THINKING.
I had to– I was on a house-hunting trip(hubbo got transferred) trip and also had to go to PA and clean out my grandmother’s house– just gritted my teeth.(And had a few martinis).
I was also flying at that time. We were out west in Az (I live in NY) at the time 9/11 happened. Our trip was extended because we could not get a return flight. Finally, we were able to get a flight and flew back home, nervously.
I wasn’t particularly scared about hijackings etc.-I figured that was a one shot deal. The scary part was a lot of nervous National Guard people toting weapons in the airports. They were very edgy.
I was wearing a sweater with brass buttons, and the scanner kept going off. So ,I got patted down. I’m like ‘Hello? Do you see the –um METAL buttons right here in front of your face?’
JEEBUS
I’ll be in DC since I live just outside of it.
This is my first protest and I’m excited to meet all the Bootribbers coming out for it and also to make my voice heard.
I hope you all have your ‘protest kits’ ready. This would include : ziplock bag with a wet washcloth or paper towels inside, a water bottle or gatorade, another ziplock with some food in it, in case you get stranded somewhere,or arrested.Your cell or camera phone ,also in a ziplock.A prearranged emergency # already entered in your phone .NOTHING that could be construed as a weapon.
An extra t-shirt or sweater.
A credit card in your safest possible place on your body- you figure it out!
And cash, also in a safe place on your body.
It could be a long, stressful day, boys and girls!
On the other hand ,it could be a hoot.
Hope it is the latter, but be prepared.
“A credit card in your safest possible place on your body- you figure it out!” Too. Damn. Funny! 🙂
I’m probably going to think of that line at the most inappropriate time imagineable and I’ll laugh or smile 🙂
I do worry about counter-protesters trying to muck things up. All it takes is one darn botthe thrower… and the nevous nelly riot security can go apeshit on us all.
On that note: be aware of a possible escape route, even though one is in a crowd… and my husband told me to make sure I knew which way the wind was blowing… meaning so that in case anyone throws some freaking gas on us – we go the opposite way the wind does.
Thought that would get somebodie’s attention- LMAO
That is what the wet washcloth or paper towels in the plastic bag is for– tear gas protection.
So there ya go- comic relief for airport anxiety- nobody who is laffin their ass off can possibly be a terrist.
I’m really sad to miss you all and would have come if not for this (as I posted 2 weeks ago).
curly may still go if she finds someone to go down to DC with.
We’d love to have her join us! Maybe she wants to take the train down?
I’ll check with her on the progress. I know she was discussing with friends on LI to drive down.
There are rooms available for her and her friend. Let her know. 🙂
Great, I’ll let her know.
ShyCat provided the rooms for us Tribbers. 🙂 Oh and breakfast Saturday. Lemme know and we’ll all take care of her and each other 🙂
Thank you all for your gracious invitation. It would be great to come just to meet you all!
I’m still thinking about it, but have some family-related conflicts going on.
Should I manage the trip I will definitely be in touch. Thanks again.
Good for you, ask,you have my deepest respect for the work you are doing.
one other reason that I’m glad I’m not heading for DC — it’s my in-laws 50th wedding anniversary, and though they’re heading up to Spokane, they’ll be home by then and want to do something special with us.
Now I’ve just got to come up with something that doesn’t involve dusting, polishing, or figuring out where the hell to store it…leaning towards a substantial contribution to a favorite local charity… 🙂
