WHITE MAN’S VIOLENCE IN NEW ORLEANS!
Just listened to Dutch radio, local time 10:40am, a Dutch photographer reported this as a witness account in Katrina aftermath in New Orleans.
The leader of the KKK was as vigilante active in the neighborhoods of the flood stricken city of New Orleans. In groups, the KKK men were driving around in their pick-ups. When they came together, the men were bragging how many niggers they managed to shoot.
The photographer, Kadir van Lohuizen, witnessed numerous dead bodies with gunshot wounds.
This is a story still developing, will not be covered in the coming issue of TIME magazine.
Can anyone corroborate this story with other reports or unsubstantiated rumors? Still need a second source, I trust BooTribers in the relief effort will respond. There was a city blogger active throughout the hectic, lawlessness days after the devastation of Katrina. Was there anything in his reporting that anyone recalls in support of this story?

LIFELINES – 7 RIVERS ::
Mississippi River 2002 – photos Van Lohuizen
Part1: The wind of change
Photographer Kadir van Lohuizen was in the Louisiana area for newspaper “Vrij Nederland” and TIME magazine. An earlier photo series he made called “Lifelines”, where Kadir made a portrait of World’s largest rivers, including the Mississippi. He flew by heli over New Orleans, the river delta and the marshes of New Orleans. A Shell refinery pipeline was broken and storage tanks were displaced by the storm, which caused oil spilling into the marshes.
Next issue of TIME will publish an article on large oil spill in the marshes of the Mississippi delta. A smurry of black, thick oil rests, spreading as the tide changes. Indication of amount spilled: 160k barrels. The photos to be published were made by Kadir.

David Duke got off easy. Given the former Ku Klux Klan leader’s long and well-documented history as a high-rolling racial profiteer and tax cheat, the federal government’s negotiated felony conviction of Duke is more than a day late and a few dollars short. Worse, Republican Gov. Mike Foster’s continued failure to denounce his former secret political ally doesn’t help Louisiana’s reputation for political corruption and racial demagoguery.
Duke, 52, a neo-Nazi and former national director of the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, will be sentenced by federal Judge Eldon Fallon on March 19, 2003, to 15 months in prison and a $10,000 fine, according to Duke’s plea agreement with prosecutors. Duke admitted defrauding his supporters of thousands of dollars in contributions and filing a false federal income tax return.
In the Sunday Edition of the Greater New Orleans newspaper, The Times-Picayune, on the eve of the President’s return to New Orleans this morning, the paper published an Open Letter to the President, saying:
- We’re angry Mr. President, and we’ll be angry long after our beloved city and surrounding parishes have been pumped dry. Our people deserved rescuing. Many who could have been were not. That’s to the government’s shame.
- We learned seven years ago, when Hurricane Georges threatened, that the Dome isn’t suitable as a long-term shelter. So what did state and national officials think would happen to tens of thousands of people trapped inside with no air conditioning, overflowing toilets and dwindling amounts of food, water and other essentials?

An unintentional scoop, spilled inadvertently at the end of an interview in VPRO studio in Hilversum.
Will follow-up to include some names of persons involved.

Thanks Oui, I can always count on you to report the missed things. Thank you so very much.
Is it possible that this story was “missed” because its just another example of Hurrican Katrina urban myth being spread through the blogosphere?
.
rumors and misinformation, whereby the factual reporting of facts gets obscured.
This is first hand reporting from inside New Orleans, by accredited foreign journalists, well acquainted with the U.S.

Have you ever posted under a different name or variation of said name on Dkos, My Left Wing, Booman or LSF?
Your voice sounds quite familiar but only under a different name. Please answer honestly.
Why do you ask? I understand anonymity is repected and have not heard this question asked of others.
I have wondered if its possible for someone to set up under various blog names and if anyone practices in this way? It seems possible that you could do so and recommend yourself onto the recommended list.
I missed this question if you asked me elsewhere.
Sorry, but the truthful answer is no.
to answer your question, yes people have been caught using multiple names to recommend themselves as well as rate themselves.
anonymity is one thing but changing one’s name and not letting people know who you ‘have been’ is another as it’s deception pure and simple.
there has been someone named Petey who has done just this and you sound very much like him. Just making sure it’s not a new incarnation of an old situation.
I agree with you but I HATE being called petey.
That wouldnt be me.
postings from various boards where racists were talking about black evacuees coming to their areas?
Pretty sick. There are some pretty sick people in the world. Try searching Google with
New Orleans n…. (n-word)
in search box.
You’ll find:
I feel sick. Ack.
My point is that perhaps none of these people shot other people. But I think they’d like to, if they thought they could get away with it.
Further — what the bleep difference does it make? By witholding effective assistance, by TURNING AWAY effective assistance, hundreds if not thousands of people died. No matter what their color.

Forgot to instruct the dumb Dutchmen it’s not done to report white violence and shooting incidents in a state of emergency!
The photographer, as what I understood, indicated TIME will follow up with a report on the KKK activities in Katrina’s aftermath. The Dutch reporter/photographer recognized the clansmen and named them. I’m trying to connect up to the VPRO website to listen to this morning’s interview once more.
that Michele Malkin warned us about. It was revealed by the NO coroner the other day that most of those stories of deaths and people locked up with nutjobs in the superdome, etc, were just hallucinations. Hysteria.
Everybody knows there is no racism in New Orleans. Even the mayor is black.
Becuase it’s on a blog report, doesn’t it make it factual.
Because you didn’t see it in the news doesn’t mean it’s been repressed.
Did anyone see this story reported on a Nashville TV station?
I know I didn’t until I went Googling for substantiation of this Dutch-reported story. How reliable is the Nashville story? Is it just a rumor on the ‘net? Because there’s a lot of first-person interview evidence, I’m inclined to believe it. You’ll have to make up your own minds.
I’m off searching for corroboration of the Dutch KKK story.
It ties in with a report in Harper’s about how disaster breaks down social barriers in a good way. Gives one hope.
Not that federal governments can get away with doing nothing but in a disaster, your best hope is the people next to you.
There’s a biblical quote (not that I am a bible thumper):
“Better a friend who is near by than a brother who is far away.”
need that, after the search I did. (eek)
Fantastic — and of course it’s true. Way too much detail in the reporting to be a hoax. And the reports I hear from my friends who have relatives or friends in the area are just the same.

counting flood deaths said in a live interview on CNN,
if it’s a murder by gun shot or stabbing, it is not a flood death.
He said he would not count a body as a flood death until each one had been through an atopsy. The extreme difficulty of picking up the bodies before they disintegrate and the painstaking autopsies means that the death count will not be complete for possibly years. It is now very artifically low and the right wing are using present day statistics as if they are the final count.
Yesterday on CNN, I saw a group of people coming back to their homes and they were finding human remains in their neighbourhood.
Cautionary note, DO NOT BELIEVE the present day death counts in NOLA and surroundings (I repeat) because there are murders which are not being counted and only those autopsied are being counted. GWB likely hopes that it will take at least 4 years before the final death count is tallied in the Southern Gulf States.
Sadly: “What Goes Around Comes Around” With illegal wars, corrupt elections, torture, and the New Orleans fiasco, America’s future looks dark.
He is a photographer. Did he take pictures of bullet ridden bodies?
They dorve around in the flooded areas? How?
I don’t doubt this happened but, I don’t understand what exactly happened.
I have heard some things about the 82nd airborne but I don’t have confirmation.
.
Others did not escape their role of bigotry —
Driver Toni Soularie, 49, said she nearly had a violent confrontation when she pulled into a rest area.
“This officer said he was going to shoot me if I didn’t get back on the bus. At that point I was prepared to let him shoot me. I had this invalid on the bus who was already embarrassed because she urinated all over herself. And I was not going to let her embarrass herself again. We just got off.”

C3 meeting in Jackson Square in New Orleans yesterday, since the storm.
Met people who have been in New Orleans nearly the entire time. Two fellows from the Treme area were ordered out of the city by gun point, when Hurricane Rita was approaching. This despite the fact that Mayor Nagin said no one would be forcefully evacuated.
While being ordered onto buses at gun point by those who appeared to be New Orleans cops, one young man refused to evacuate. He exchanged words with authorities, and was shot. He was loaded onto a truck and taken away. The fellow that I was talking to said he doesn’t know where this man was taken.
I haven’t heard a single eye witness account about KKK, though I wouldn’t be suprised. Shocked maybe, but not suprised.
There is much that needs to come out, and it will take time. We intend to hold a town forum to bring forth eye witnesses, though they are understandably reluctant to go on the record.

… insight and witness reports on New Orleans relief efforts. There were reports of civilians with weapons in pick-ups, some discussions these were deputized KBR security forces hired by FEMA. Many shooting incidents, also reported by NOLA blogger who himself was a former military and stayed locked up in the city. Does anyone still have links to these BooTrib diaries?
Just now, I listened to BBC reporting on 3,000 lay-offs by mayor Ray Nagin, while most work is now performed by contractors hired by FEMA. In Mississippi, a local businessman complained he has repeatedly offered his company’s services to FEMA for the debris clean-up. No reply, nada. FEMA is hiring out-of-state companies bringing their own employees. The local economy will not recover unless the state takes control of the reconstruction.
The Bush-Cheney administration is centralizing power with the federal government, see the contractors in Iraq to wage war and the relief effort initiated through USAID supplying materials from preferential companies, instead of giving support to overseas local businesses in providing contracts.
