Well, in addition to being the last comment on the previous thread, let me be the first on this one with the same comment—
My first guesses on Rove’s testimony:
If this is Rove’s initiative, he’s going back to recant or “clarify” something he said. He “misremembered” and was reminded of something. Or he wasn’t clear about something. But he will still insist he didn’t know Plame was undercover.
Either as part of #1 or not: He’ll testify that President Bush and (probably) VP Cheney knew nothing and did nothing about Plame.
I simply don’t know of a situation when a true believer like Rove gave up his superior. Haldemann and Eurlichman did not give up Nixon. Only Dean did—never a true believer, not a Nixon loyalist and insider.
These days, doing a stretch in prison is part of the career. It actually gives him more options: he can find the light, be born again and live forever off the fees and book sales of the Christian right like Liddy did, or he does his(relatively soft) time, writes his book and gets hired again because he took a bullet for his boss.
This is not Rove’s idea. Fitzgerald is taking Rove up on his offer back in July that he would return if necessary.
I think Fitzgerald’s got him and is just taking another free stab at him without his lawyer present.
Even if Rove were found guilty and fired… You know he will always work behind the scenes of the republican machine.
He may not be as “genius” as some make him out to be, but he is an integral part of the corrupt machine.
I’ve never thought of Rove as a genius except maybe getting the press to ignore all the idiotic stories, plots, pr releases that he hatched up which if even questioned slightly would have fallen apart.
Continuing discussion from past thread — I feel sufficiently shamed that I’m heading down to the law library. I want to read Federal Grand Jury Practice and can’t find it on-line. I’ll give you a diary of my opinion on what the fuck happened today, If someone promises to keep me posted on what the talking heads said. Please. Okay. I’m going anyway. Just out of pure shame. And morbid curiosity. Later.
Hey, is it just me or does anyone think it’s kind of fishy that New York has a terror warning just hours after Bush’s “major” speech on terrorism and Iraq? I mean, it’s not like they can use the color-coded threat chart anymore since that’s become something of a joke.
It has reached the point where people parody the thing.

New York is on Ernie!
Alaskan “Pork” your federal dollars at work, $500,000 “Salmon-Thirty-Salmon” for Alaska Airlines…kinda purty tho.

So, if we were to put an animal on the side of Air Force One, what animal would it be?
Kinda hard to think of an animal low enough to paint on AFOne..maybe jackal..Jackaloff One?
A horse’s ass?
a two-headed snake

who’s really the prez. Is it Bush? Or is it Star Chamber Cheney?
Until we know I suggest Air Force One be painted on the outside with a Pair-a-Me-See-Um.
Who’s really the prez? As in, who was elected? Al Gore.
An airplane painted to look like a fish. I see. I always worry if the airplane I’m riding on isn’t protected by an animal totem. And one that is so relevant, at that, since salmon are usually found above 20,000 feet.
Has the Earth entered into some weird Bozo-Field wherein the average IQ has dropped significantly below the average body temperature?
I always worry if the airplane I’m riding on isn’t protected by an animal totem.
You should. You also might want to check out the floatation cushions.
Nah. I don’t need to check ’em out as I always have my very own carry-on floation device:
On CNN even before Bloomberg came on, Jeanne Meserve was noting that some unnamed official told her the NYC warning was pretty much uncorroborated, untrustworthy bullshit. (Not that she used those exact words, but she said it was “interesting”…)
ABC is also reporting that “some federal officials” say they don’t find the threat very credible.
Perfect title for this open thread.
I wonder if BushCo has hired and pre-positioned some criminals to kidnap a female white child or two as soon as Rove is finally indicted.
hahahaha
Stupid, I know, but I really thought it added to the picture of the swimming piglets from China…
a cute picture. Those piglets are way cuter than old Mr. Ugly. That’s why I hope they don’t drown, and Rove does. Glug, glug, glug.
Reminds me of the long-ago, and widely derided, picture of Chairman Mao swimming in the Yangtze, supposedly to demonstrate that he was a political force and still in control.

This is awfully good. It deserves its own diary or story.
dutifully carrying out his duties as an enabler for Bush regime propaganda, “Tweety” Matthews has devoted (so far) the first 22 minutes of his show to the supposed threat in NY. Now I just heard him say he’s going to have Kerik on to discuss it, so this means he’s engaged in a full court press as far as diverting attention from real and substantive news, (like Rove, the Phillipino spies, new deaths in Iraq, and of course the idiotic, divorced-from-reality speech by the Imbecile in Chief this morning).
“Pathetic” doesn’t even begin to describe Matthews and his loser show.
check this out.
very cool and congrats to DuctapeFatwa for breaking the story on the blogosphere.
Congratulations!
Keith is great … he just said, in so many words, that this New York subway threat is entirely politically motivated …. said that there have been 13 such incidents of unfavorable news to the Bush administration being accompanied by terrorist threat announcements…. got Evan Kohlmann pretty much to agree with him.
AWESOME!
tomorrow morning. So far I am not scared. The worst danger is that my fellow passengers will be scared out their wits and do something stupid, like pulling the emergency brakes. Come to think of it, I am supposed to come in to work early tomorrow. This is the best excuse. Unfortunately it is one that the students will use too. And there probably will be screw-ups and long delays, just because of this announcement. What is the point of this announcement? Are we supposed to avoid the subways, or just look at everyone riding in the car with us with suspicion? I am soo tired of all this.
It might be a good idea, unless you are very visibly blond, to choose a different method of transportation until the operation concludes.
Please keep the family of Jean Charles de Menezes in your thoughts and prayers.
I find it interesting that the NYC mayoral debates scheduled for tonight, the ones that Bloomberg blew off much to the disgust of most black voters, are now blown off the news cycle by this. Coincidence? Maybe. But it sure was convenient for Bloomberg that it just HAPPENED to hit the news tonight…
And by the way…Howard Dean Says: Donate to elect Freddy Ferrer
Yes, she has a blog.
Thanks Catnip. I love the part where she quotes from John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’ under the flag and eagle picture. What a strange place to visit, gonna bookmark it. I think her email address might come in handy for me sometime soon.
Believe it or not, New Yorkers appear to be totally non-plused about this latest terrorist warning. I took a bus up Madison Ave. to go home tonight and it was easy, smooth sailing. If people were uptight about a threat the buses would have been packed and overflowing.
It is suspicious that this public threat comes on the heels of Bush’s speech reconfirming his commitment to Iraq. His new justification for it being that Iraq is now not only a hotbed and breeding ground for terrorists (thanks to him), but also a target for total takeover by Osama himself.
Also suspicious, as mentioned by others, is Bloomberg’s blowing off the mayoral debate in Harlem.
NYers, I think, are just becoming very matt-of-fact and suspect about these things – it’s a kind of “show me the money” skepticism. One of my co-workers was convinced there was a terrorist threat because his mother was coming to New York and they knew he really didn’t want her to be here.
George Clooney is an angel, but it’s hard to believe CBS would do something like this. Network is such a subversive movie, I love it.
Hope I’m not too late to nominate a totem for george’s plane. How about a slug? The trail of slime is so hard to eradicate.
