Is this something the wind does – rollong the snow up like that? I never saw anything like that in Kansas City – it was windy enough, but maybe not flat enough or the snow was the dry powdery type not the “sticky” kind.
Snow rollers are rare where I live in south-central Indiana. Apparently it takes just the right combination of temperature and wind velocity to form them. I played hookey from work on this particular morning to drive around and take photos – they were so fascinating!
I just love snow – I find it so magical. Snow rollers – I remember reading about them and checking them on the internets.
Your photo is wonderful! The whole composition is pleasing to my eye. The “tracks” and the little snowballs remind me of a “connect the dots” activity. And you were able to capture the hollow center of the large one so well.
Aren’t we lucky to live in such a scenic area? Our place is right across from Michael’s. There’s parking in the back if you ever need a spot in Oct. 😉
Thanks for the kind words. Haven’t had a chance to see everyone else’s work yet. We are going to the Democrat bean dinner later today at the fairgrounds. Baron Hill is coming around 7:00. He’s going to get his old 9th Dist. seat back next year!

I’ve never heard of anything like that before. Thanks for the link. How big were those, by the way? They look like their almost 2′ high.
As I remember, the largest of these were about 12″. I had never heard of them before either.
I’m amazed!! I’ve lived in “snow country” for several decades and I don’t recall ever seeing this phenomenon.
Astounding!

And the hint of snow sparkle – glorious.
Thanks.

Sorry for the double post. My fault, not IndianaDem’s.
Thanks to all the froggybottom volunteers and especially katiebird for all the great work! I would never have had time to puzzle it out on my own.
They covered the roadsides and open fields
This is so freaky. I’ve never seen anything like it. I love how the large rolls in the first shot are hollow!
Our Cereus is ready to pop
An 8 inch blossom emerges
Later, that evening, an 8 inch blossom emerges. The scent is vanilla.
Beautiful. Kind of reminds me of columbine, but more spider-like.
I haven’t seen a Night Blooming Cereus since I was a child. Our neighbor across the street woke my parents and I up to show us hers. Spectacular!!
The following morning – zzzzz
The flower shop on our street
I ought to be able to figure out where you live. Always nice to be able to track down one’s elected officials.
😉
All the pictures are really great.

That is happy news.
Live fire training for LP gas emergencies
That is a really cool photo, the way the water glows and backlights the silhouettes.
Kiki our copy cat
