According to multiple recent news reports, two Taliban soldiers were killed and their bodies eventually burned by U.S. troops in Afghanistan.
These actions, an affront to the Muslim faith which prohibits cremation, were condemned by Afghan President Karzai.
Major concern has been expressed that these events will provide yet another major propaganda tool for jihadists around the world.
I will be the first to grant that the killing of innocent human beings anywhere, an affront to Islam, is taking place in Iraq and elsewhere seemingly everyday yet these tragedies fail to receive similar condemnation from Middle Eastern governments or top Muslim clerics.
Having established that, just where are White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan and Pentagon spokesperson Lawrence DeRita regarding this cremation report?
Why you ask?
Because these two gleefully climbed aboard the proverbial high horse and enjoyed lording it over the media during the dubious NEWSWEEK story earlier this year about the desecration of the Koran that produced rioting and deaths.
McClellan stated at the time: “That story has damaged the image of the United States abroad and damaged the credibility of the media at home,” and that Americans, including President Bush, “share in the outrage that this report was published in the first place.” McLellan also was puzzled that NEWSWEEK had stopped short of a full retraction.
DeRita stated at the time: “Predictably, the backlash has begun. ‘People are dead because of what this son of a bitch (NEWSWEEK’s source) said,'”
Apparently, these two have discovered their personal mute button. How opportunistic!
Call it moral relativism or just plain hypocrisy–the hallmark of Busheviks.
