An Iraqi boys [sic] looks at the site where a car bomb exploded in central Baghdad. An Iraqi was killed and eight others wounded by the suicide car bomb, security and hospital sources said. In another incident two US soldiers were killed by a makeshift bomb in eastern Baghdad.

It was not death, for I stood up
by Emily Dickinson
It was not death, for I stood up,
And all the dead lie down;
It was not night, for all the bells
Put out their tongues, for noon.
It was not frost, for on my flesh
I felt siroccos crawl, –
Nor fire, for just my marble feet
Could keep a chancel cool.
And yet it tasted like them all;
The figures I have seen
Set orderly, for burial,
Reminded me of mine,
As if my life were shaven
And fitted to a frame,
And could not breathe without a key;
And ’twas like midnight, some,
When everything that ticked has stopped,
And space stares, all around,
Or grisly frosts, first autumn morns
Repeal the beating ground.
But most like chaos – stopless, cool, –
Without a chance or spar,
Or even a report of land
To justify despair.

I can only offer encouragement, as I don’t think I have the skills necessary. However, I do pledge to buy at least two copies when it’s done!
Me too… and three and four
…and let it begin with me.
I’ve posted a comment in the dKos thread for this diary, seeking help to adapt this series as a book.
Please take a look, and consider stepping forward if it’s possible for you to do so.
Thanks.
Brainstorm what you think you will need:
I can help with calling for permission. Or typing/compiling (I’ll spellcheck, I promise)
Also: We have several authors here. They might know have some advice.
This isn’t a novel… it’s a compilation…
I want to help. Tap me on the head when or if you want me. 🙂
Whatcha need? 🙂 I’ll email you phone and such if you need it.
Nothing specific at the moment – just hope to take you up on your offer sooner rather than later.
Brilliant idea. I think this could help change hearts and minds.
AFA copyrights on the pictures. Getting permission to use the poetry? Well. Now that’s something to think about.
But the idea is good.

▼ ▼ ▼ MY DIARY
There’s something happening here
What it is ain’t exactly clear
There’s a man with a gun over there
Telling me I got to beware
I think it’s time we stop, children, what’s that sound
Everybody look what’s going down
There’s battle lines being drawn
Nobody’s right if everybody’s wrong
Young people speaking their minds
Getting so much resistance from behind
I think it’s time we stop, hey, what’s that sound
Everybody look what’s going down
What a field-day for the heat
A thousand people in the street
Singing songs and carrying signs
Mostly say, hooray for our side
It’s time we stop, hey, what’s that sound
Everybody look what’s going down
Paranoia strikes deep
Into your life it will creep
It starts when you’re always afraid
You step out of line, the man come and take you away
We better stop, hey, what’s that sound
Everybody look what’s going down
Stop, hey, what’s that sound
Everybody look what’s going down
Stop, now, what’s that sound
Everybody look what’s going down
Stop, children, what’s that sound
Everybody look what’s going down

I cannot hear this without crying for the senseless deaths in Vietnam.
And it fits so well now, sadly.

We can only imagine how grateful kidnapped Iraqis will be to have these new “facilities” in which to provide stress relief for harried crusaders.
