Welcome back!
This week we are continuing with the Victorian home that was the subject of the previous diary. (Seen directly below.) The painting was at the stage seen in the second photo below the at the close of last week’s installment.
Since that time I have painted in some of the plantings and the body of the house. (Below) Like the sky these are preliminary layers of paint. The sky will lighten as will the green.
I have painted much of the body of the house in the white seen in the photo of the actual house. Pink has been added to details only to show clarity for purposes of this diary.
Pursuant to the suggestion of one commenter, I have only used larger brushes on this larger canvas. (16×20) Using small brushes on a canvas of this size would result in deatails that are disproportionately small. A larger brush yields details that are less fine but that is the price of using a larger canvas.
We’ve talked about this before, it’s really better to suggest details than to actually paint each one. Photorealism aside, a painting should avoid attempting to substitute for a photograph. Paint a subject with your own unique vision.
Well I must admit that I’ve been a bit lazy these past couple of weeks and this has moved a bit slowly. (Also my attention has been diverted by those other things that we do here.) Next week we should have some dramatic changes. See you then.
