Invasion and occupation of Iraq on fixed evidence by Bush White House Iraq Group in coordination with Tony Blair, John Howard and Silvio Berlusconi. Therefore the Iraq adventure is an illegal war and the U.S. troops have no business being there and should leave, as apparently Ayatolla Sistani will demand after gaining power in Dec. 15 parliamentary vote in Iraq.

I’m sure there are other dimensions of the verb “to libby” that haven’t yet occurred to me.
The Los Angeles Times argues that the ordeal may not be over for Vice President Richard Bruce Cheney. I agree.
A trial of Libby could yet throw up information that would spark further indictments. In fact, I take from Fitzgerald’s language on Friday that he actively envisages such a possibility.
Cheney was one of four individuals who told Libby that Valerie Plame Wilson worked for the CIA.
As Steve Gilliard picks up from Josh Marshall the canny insight that Cheney told Libby specifically that Plame Wilson was in a division in the Directorate of Operations. That is, any knowledgeable government official would immediately conclude that she was not a mere analyst but an undercover field officer.

The radio show “This American Life” did a segment yesterday on the study that did the war dead count that included the number killed by US and its allies. This study was the basis of the article in Lancet that caused such a furor. The radio show did an excellent job of explaining how the study was done and how false the controversy over it is.
I was hoping to link to the show but they don’t have the audio up yet. Instead here’s a link to an article in the San Francisco Chronicle and a link to interview (real audio) with the author of the study.
Does anyone even believe the number of 26,000 “innocen” Iraqis dead is true? I sure don’t!

Add the Iragi civilian deaths from March 2003 to the present at the hands of U.S. and coalition troops, the war deaths in the march to Baghdad – multiple of 10,000 deaths – plus the collateral damage by bombing of villages, safe houses and wedding parties up till today.

I even believe it is much higher than 100,00. That is the number they were giving out a year ago. How many more Oui? I also fixed the 2 rating that I just noticed. You know I would never give you a 2. I don’t know if it is me or the system but I never give anything out but a 4 or nothing at all(unless it is absolutely a troll.

clear, this is the study from which the 100K number came, not the pentagon numbers. The story is really fascinating especially in describing how difficult it was to do the death count.

Interestingly today on CNN our military wheeled out some furtive looking spokesman in camouflage to say that the insurgents were losing because they were killing too many Iraqis. It seems that it is all part of some propoganda campaign by the military aimed at the average American back home and goes something like invent some large sounding number but not one that is too big. Give the number to the people. Then explain it means imminent insurgent demise.

A car bomb has exploded in the southern Iraqi city of Basra.
There are reports that at least 20 people have been killed and many injured in the attack.
The blast happened at about 20:30 local time (17:30 GMT), in a commercial area of the British-controlled city containing many shops and restaurants. The area where the blast occurred was packed with families out for the evening during the Ramadan festival.
Although car bombings are common in central and northern Iraq, the south, predominantly populated by Shias, has been comparatively peaceful. However, there has been a recent upsurge in attacks in the region.
Rising violence
The attack appeared to have targeted local police vehicles, two of which were destroyed. Six police officers were reported to be among the dead.
