Or is that Wa Hoo?
Either way, this is GREAT for my home state! FANTASTIC
And yeah…maybe you shoulda kept your dear leader from creepin’ into Richmond at the last minute.
Kaine has won it!
What are you listening to, Lisa? I can’t find a thing on TV … not even on the NYC NBC feed (!) … just that Earl show.
Take that back … they just interrupted “The Office” to declare Corzine the winner.
Thanks SusanBohu for this and links..It looks like we are finally kicking Bush and his cronierepubcrooks Asses. Of Course Larry King is interviewing Jen Aniston. Rita Cosby is pimping for a Boycoytt in Aruba and still looking for missing White girl and I am sure Nancy Grace is trying to get someone into a Gas Chamber somewhere for stealing Candy or peanuts at a Five n Dime.
One of the funniest posts last night was DuctapeFatwa reporting on Rita Cosby’s show … I had it on for a few minutes too until I found the remote.
There was this rich guy who’s been funding some of the searches for Natalie. He said, about the boycott of Aruba announced by the governor of Alabama tonight — I swear he said this:
“WE ARE GOING TO DEFCON THREE! I WILL KIILL TO EAT … ER, I EAT WHAT I KILL!”
(Ducky predicted that he’ll probably run for office soon.)
I, personally, like it raw and wiggling.
(Gollum, Gollum, Gollum)
Wiggle it … Just a little bit.
when the Va results were announced I did my little jig ’round the room screaming like a banshee.
The cats and dog still haven’t forgiven me.
I’m feelin’ kinda punchy tonight. :<)
And I’m really rooting for St. Paul. That’s one empty suit down, another one to go in the form of Norm Coleman. Idiot.
I still miss Sen. Wellstone. ((sigh))
There is actually a connection between this mayoral race and the Coleman/Wellstone/Mondale race. Mayor DINO Kelly (looser) was the heir to Norm Coleman, who had been our mayor before running for Senate. Kelly is “good buddies” with all the slime Republicans – Coleman, Bush, and Pawlenty (MN Governor). He even bragged about these connections during this race saying that his “relationships” with them got money for the city. Luckily no one believed that because they all did so much to screw the city.
He went down to Richmond to give a “Vote for Kilgore” speech.
Didn’t work.
Poor George.
(He-he-he)
Do you remember when the Idiot took office he said something in the lines of …So help me God.
I think not even God will help him now.
For the uninitiated, that’s the more accurate name for the right-wing Richmond Times-Dispatch (though the reporters are good) when I came across the Shrub quote:
Are you kidding me? Must be, because Mr. Yale and Harvard MBA cracked me the hell up.
So. Who wants to invite Shrub into their district or state?
Or am I going to have to wait for the local coverage to start at 8pm? (still 90 minutes or so away…)
Sorry to hear about Texas — but I’m not altogether surprised. If anyone’s thinking of relocating to a saner state, rents in California seem to be holding steady…then again, let’s see if Ahnold wins his power grab before we claim the title of “saner”…
Cali, I’ve had a heck of a time finding news sites that have up-to-the-minute coverage. I hate to say it but Drudge is the best. And AP is great too.
If you’re getting California results, you can call me — email me for phone number — or just post them in comments here.
California updates after 8pm; I can monitor both local news Web sites and the state site…
has an awesome election results scrolling applet; got it loaded and ready to go. Only drawback is it didn’t work in Safari, so I actually had to open Micro$oft Internet Explorer on my iBook…
Election Results applet, click here — supposedly works best in Netscape or IE, couldn’t get it to work in Safari. š
I’ll have to take a break from about 8:30 to 9:30pm or thereabouts when the spouse comes home with dinner, so we can watch tonight’s Keith on the DVR; I record the earlier show in case there’s BREAKING NEWS that pre-empts the repeat. I’ll be glad when the spouse starts getting home earlier again…
Just noted by our local ABC affiliate that our DINO Bush-endorsing Mayor Randy Kelly is getting beaten by the Democrat-endorsed candidate Chris Coleman 30% to 69% with 74% of the precincts counted!! Woo-Hoo!!! Let this be a lesson to all Democrats and Republicans for 2006 – you hitch your star to Bush and you go down!!!
Beautiful! I’ll add that to the front page.
I second that one, my Friend!!!!!!!!
WHOO-HOO!
That is what is called a Righteous Ass-Whomping.
Fantastic! Good for you–and great for St. Paul.
Ass-whoopin indeedy. Now the early news is on tv. They are confirming a 39% win, Kelly concedes only 30 minutes after the polls close, and its only the second time in 50 years that an incumbent mayor lost re-election in this city. All of that failure laid at the feet of the Bush endorsement.
TAKE THAT BUSHCO!!
Where are you getting your info. on Texas? According to the returns that I’m looking at Harris County hasn’t reported in yet — and that’s one BIG ASS county (Houston — where they just relected a Dem. mayor by a HUUUGE margin!!)
Also, I would like to note that here in Travis County (Austin), we defeated #2:

NYTimes: Texas Voters Approve Ban on Gay Marriage
Texas voters Tuesday overwhelming approved a constitutional ban on same-sex marriage, making their state the 19th to take that step. In Maine, however, a proposal to repeal a new gay-rights law was trailing in early returns.
[…]
The contest in Texas was decided quickly — the ban was receiving more than 74 percent of the votes in early returns ….
SIGH!
was pathetic….ah, well, the fun and games int he courts shall certainly begin now — I wonder if I am still married?
I guess I’lls tart writing letters, if they are going to deny that this affects me, I want to get it in writing.
I still haven’t seen word one about Harris County though (I have started watching the returns…)
There are a lot of reasons why Prop 2 won here in TX. I talk about only the tip of the Religious Right in my Diary.
Although this vote was against the GLTB community from the get go, there are a lot more darker forces at play that I uncovered today. There is a very good reason why the KKK had their rally for Prop 2 that the MSM did not unconver, nor the groups on our side such as the Texas Freedom Network and the Americans United for Separation of Church and State.
As quickly as I was typing up my diary, I was running out of time. And the information I that I found, I wanted to make sure I word it right to deliver a mighty blow to those neo-fascist scums that are running this state and in hopes to knock a big enough a blow in Ohio so Ken “Hand the Election to Bush” Blackwell could not win.
Second, the forces here in TX worked wonders in keeping this election hush hush. Here in Houston, I hardly heard about early election, in fact, I thought they never had it. There were no signs and the time I watched the local news, they hardly ever mentioned the election except for today. I wonder why?
Could it be another blow to the Hispanic community? The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force would argue that it would. In fact, the Houston Chronicle ran a story that was hardly mention in the Hispanic community. The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force found that limiting the rights of same-sex couples disproportionately harms Hispanic gays and lesbians because they are less likely than their white counterparts to be U.S. citizens and more likely to raise children and earn less.
And of course the sell out attack dogs were quick to debunk the report.
This amendment was going to pass no matter what and the neocons were going to make sure by covering all it’s bases, including making sure only one side of the the aisle would know about the election and the other side wouldn’t.
See the Maine results in the story!
Thank God, at least Austin held the line. (Although many of the people in the long line at my precinct appeared dangerously uptight, as if they were planning to outlaw someone’s happiness.)
Sorry to change subject, but did anyone watch Olberman show where “Poor ” Scottie got spanked again with the question of allowing torture? He got whooped!!
I saw the show then I just had to go and read the transcript, yeah he got whooped and I hope they (reporters) keep this up every day. The Cheney question…so why is he asking for this exemption….so does he work for the white house or is he independent of the administration….oh it was good.
For a second I thought Scottie was about to lose it.
Every time they have the ball, they fumble.
Indeed, life can be good at times
oooh i soo wish i could haev watched that!!
It seems to me like there is something really weird in Ohio, or maybe my tinfoil needs to be replaced.
In the county breakdowns for those reform issues, the same county will have a different number of total votes on issue 1 than 2 all the way down the line. It’s hard for me to believe that these people would go to the poll and not vote on all the things on the ballot, especially since the ballot isn’t that large this go around.
This makes absolutely no sense at all to me.
It’s not uncommon for one or two measures to get fewer votes (I left one proposition blank because I didn’t understand it, and one city council seat blank because both the candidates suck), but if it’s a major discrepancy, it may need to be looked into.
Another reason we need a paper trail on the machines…
I think it does too. Like in Cuyahoga county the difference with 12% of the precints reporting between #2 and #5 is 4000 some votes. That’s a pretty big difference.
WooHoo!!!!!!!!!! The school millage passed in the district where I teach. I still have a job!! Double bonus, it looks like the union endorsed school board candidates also won!!!!!
Here in TX, the gov. is the weakest of all (lt. gov has the real power) — the reason I’m asking is because it looks like the VA voters are going with Repubs in the Lt. Gov. and AG spots…
see here
So, I’m just wondering if having Kaine in as Gov. means anything “real” or not…
Gov. is the power slot. Lt. Gov is sort of window dressing and AG is important but not crucial, since Gov. sets the policy. So tonight is a good win for us. Wish we had gotten the other races, but they are still really close.
I was hoping that was the case!
MLK we have a Kaine victory 4 more years of sanity! Deeds still has a chance:
R F McDonnell Republican 922,871 50.13%
R C Deeds Democratic 916,377 49.78%
Write Ins 1,544 0.08%
Virginia yeah I’m proud!
dismal showing on Saturday night!
Just a wee bit. (I lived in VA from ’79 to ’91 and a while more in ’94)
š
Damn Bri don’t you live in Texas now? You went from the frying pan to the fire!
Yeah VT took it on the chin Saturday. I’m originally from Penna. and still root for PSU so I’m still smiling.
I hope Deeds can squeak out the victory. It’ll probably involve a recount.
But we also got rid of Dick Black from the house of Delegates and that’s a great thing.
It damn sure is. Maybe sanity is returning–too slowly, but just maybe.
I’m back from Drinking Liberally, where I discussed voter fraud with the guy from Rubber Hose and Duncan from Eschaton, and then chatted with Chuch Pennacchio and his campaign manager, Liz. All you people that don’t live in Philly are missing out. What’d I miss? Just kidding. Susan kept me up to date the whole time.
Hey Boo — is Chuck as cool in person as he seems to be online? I wish I was there so I could vote for him. How are his chances in the primary looking?
he’s a nice guy. I told him he had a big fan club here of pie veterans. He was amused by the whole story. His campaign manager was already aware of it.
His chances? It’s a Rocky Balboa story.
I love those kinds of stories — anything we out here in the Badlands without any money can do for him, you let me know ok?
His campaign manager sounds like a good guy or gal? to have on one’s team! Deos he have any friends in Texas? Cornyn and Hutchinson simply have to go.
I’m listening to the MP3 of the show with Jerome. .. he hasn’t come on yet.
P.S. I love Christopher Lyden and was heartsick when he lost his NPR show a few years back (contract dispute). Glad he’s got another show.
So jealous, BooMan!
In Maine, the Portland Press Herald is reporting that the ratio of No to Yes votes on Question 1 hasn’t changed, even as more votes come in–57 to 43.
In this case, No is the good vote, to prevent a mean-spirited and nasty bit of discrimination. All over my area, there are green and white lawn signs asking people to “please” vote No on no. 1.
The question reads:
When I voted early this afternoon, I got a quick glance at the tally sheet kept by the woman next to the ballot box. It looked as if a couple of hundred people had voted, and this in a town that has probably 600 voters, tops. Heavy, heavy turnout, but Mainers historically vote even in very off years.
And given that a lot of people vote, as I do, with paper ballots and pencils, then put the folded paper in a very old box with a sliding lid, final numbers may be a while in coming.

Frankly this is a good thing. This fight needs to come out and these bullshit artists need to have their head handed to them AGAIN.
Then they can crawl back under their rock for another 80 years.
Kudos to all! Tangible evidence that the end of Repug dominance is near! I can’t wait until 2006! Or 2008!
Kaine is winning by 5.5% of the vote here in Va. A bigger margin than any poll I saw before election day. Bush’s visit was very much a negative. Even here in Va.
T M Kaine Democratic 972,750 51.56%
J W Kilgore Republican 871,081 46.17%
H R Potts Jr Independent 41,159 2.18%
I just got back from workign the polls in my precinct in TX. Man it sucks to be Texan with rotting amendments like the Gay Ban. This was definitely the hardest election ive had to work.. and it took everything i had not to roll my eyes are tell the voters how stupid they were when they asked me how to ‘vote against men marrying men or women marrying women.’ Since the way they phrased the question was as a double negative.
At least thanks for some of that good news you posted above š It tells me that maybe i should just get out of TX.
everyone always thinks im gay because of sexual ambiguity.. and i have to think each time.. are people really that ignorant?? Welcome to the 21st century :p
I usually tell them it’s physically impossible for me to be gay (which is technically true) and then leave them alone to stew over what I meant (Im BI but no need to tell them that and spare them confusion).
… passing is a outrage.
But Good For You working the polls.

AP has predicted defeats of four propositions: 76 (Ahnold’s spending cap), 78, 79 (both the prescription drug measures), and 80 (electricity re-regulations)
Of the others, 73 (abortion notification) is virtual dead heat, 74 (teacher tenure) is now losing, 75 (union dues limitations) is still leading, but it’s trending downward, and 77 (redistricting) is losing.
Right now, it looks like it may be a major defeat for Ahnold’s power grab — whether that trends into a defeat for Ahnold come next November is too soon to tell. I think the main thing it says is that while Californians appreciate the initiative process, they’re not happy with the system being abused through a totally unnecessary special election.
Must admit, I’m pretty proud of my fellow voters this evening — even the ones I disagree with, for at least they got out and made their feelings known at the ballot box…
is not really a progressive win. Both candidates were Democrats. Kilpatrick comes from parents who have been in public office since he was about eight.
In the four years he has been in office, the deficit has ballooned out of control, and the city might go into receivership. He has hired many worthless cronies for city jobs. He has spent lavishly on outrageous items (champagne, spa trips) and then took his good old sweet time (several months and after media scrutiny) to pay the city back. His administration has been criminally slow in filling FOIA requests.
In the campaign, he played the race card as if the other candidate, Hendrix, were not also African-American. The Kilpatrick camp and supporters implied that because Hendrix’s mother is a German, Holocaust survivor that Hendrix would sell the city out to the white suburbs. Kilpatrick even compared himself to a lynching victim because the media had the unmitigated gall to follow the money. While some of the reporters were clearly over the top, the money was still leaking from the city.
Democrats won several mayoral races, including a takeback in Cedar Rapids and a write-in campaign in North Liberty. Seventeen cities approved municipal telecommunications utilities; however Iowa City’s bid for a municipal electic utility was defeated 2-1. All in all, it was a decent day’s work.
There are more details in my diary at MyDD.
