Listen to Jerome a Paris discuss the Paris Riots on Radio Open Source out of Boston. The show starts at 7:00 PM EST, and Jerome should come on around 7:20.
Update [2005-11-8 22:23:0 by susanhu]: The MP3 audio is now up. I’m listening.
Before you listen to the radio broadcast, join the discussion at our sister site, European Tribune.
OK, I’m done! Did anyone listen? How did it go?
20 minutes when you speak like this goes a lot faster than you think!
I missed it, Jerome.
But the great news is that KUOW — the Seattle NPR station — airs it fresh at 9pm PT!
So, everyone can go here and click on listen live.
KUOW has very good sound and listening choices.
Thanks so much for this link, Susan. I was really excited to read about this (congrats Jerome!!!) but I couldn’t hear anything at the original links — so damned frustrating! I’ll try the later one.
Great to hear you Jerome. vous étiez merveilleux!
Heard you on WGBH out of Boston. You did a good job.
Best statement you made was that the majority of the people arrested are kids under 18 yrs old.
I’m still listening. Why did you drop off ??
Hi Jerome! You sounded great!
Are the French having the same political situation that the US has with the left being divided and weak against the right, even though the right is not popular. I think that is what you might have been saying. And then I wonder if this is a phenomenon in many parts of Europe. It was certainly the case in Iran also.
I see these threads of fundamentalism of course in the US and In the Mid East, and this seems to be a world wide event. The former Communist nations become more liberal and capatalistic and the so called democracies become more rigid conservative nationalistic and authoritarian.
There seems to be a large historical force at work here that I can’t identify.
The world goes through large historical periods like the Dark Ages, The Enlightenment…based on the Enlightened ideas of the Greeks and Romans before the Dark ages.
I wonder if we are returning to a Dark Age type period.
Oh well, I’m just thinking out loud. Just wondering though if the stuff going on in Europe is similar to the Us
Thanks
When I first started listening, I thought, “What the bleep? This guy sure has an English accent with a tiny overlay of French accent. And he’s talking a million miles a minute.” Then I realized it wasn’t Jerome! Whew! 🙂
Your voice sounded great, Jerome, and what you had to say was great. It was a riot listening to the host trying to say your name, but I might have fared no better, 6 years of French notwithstanding.
I loved the way you were giving background on French politics, the host said dismissively, “The names are hard to follow…” to cut you off, and you just kept going! Excellent.
The most amazing thing for me, was … here I was sitting in the living room doing cross stitch, sitting by the laptop, with the voice of this person I’ve met via the Internet coming out of it. And if I wanted to hear a section over again, I could.
W.O.W!
