70 Congressional Districts Need You!

Howard Dean has been pretty serious about a 50 state strategy, raising money to put into some of the reddest states before he even starts on bluer states. But the strategy of running in every district is still about 70 candidates short. We need Democrats or, for that matter, Greens if no Dem steps up, running in these 70 districts. This comes from an 11/9 dKos story via Progressive Democrats of America. More below.

If You’re Still Asking, “What Can I Do?”

Can you believe it? The following is a list of 70 congressional districts where Republicans are running unopposed.

Where Republicans are unopposed, democracy is critically

endangered. If you live in one of these districts, you, too, can be an American hero. You owe it to yourself and to our nation’s future either to become a candidate or to help identify someone willing to run…

Want to take our country back? This is how we do it. This is where it starts. If you’re not sure which district is yours, you can find out HERE.

Rumor has it that some of these seats do have people running. Delaware may have a Green running (but no Dem? well go Greens, then). Also MS-2 & 4 and MI-8 districts should be on the list, from what I hear. A candidate HAS stepped up for TX-31. Please help Mary Beth Harrell for Congress in TX-31. But otherwise we need people to step up.

How does one run for office? Well, here are some places to start. These places can also be where you can start recruiting for office. Seriously, if no one steps up, either from the Dems or Greens, then these districts will have low voter turnout for the Dems which will then hurt statewide candidates.

Where to start:

Progressive Majority has been recruiting candidates in particular states and won big victories in Colorado, Washington and Arizona this year.

Democracy for America is another good place to get help and backing for running for office. They have been less successful than Progressive Majority, but they still do well.

Finally, of course your local Democratic Party should be on this if you live in or near such a district.

Anyone want to step up? Can we help raise funds for anyone who steps up?
