Baghdad Burning Links…
Earlier this year, Baghdad Burning the blog was turned into “Baghdad Burning” – the book. Feminist Press published the whole first year of blogs in book form and it was a huge honor. The book is available at both Amazon and Barnes & Noble. The British version was published by Marion Boyars Publishers .
As if having the blog published as a book wasn’t enough- the book itself won the third prize of the Lettre Ulysses Award for the Art of Reportagein October… An amazing honor.
Also- Baghdad Burning in Japanese… and Baghdad Burning in Spanish. Many, many thanks to the people taking so much time to translate the blog!
What wonderful news…of all the information I read about or from Iraq Riverbends blog is really the heart and soul that shapes my feelings about everything that is happening in her country due to her amazing writing.
She seems to have mastered making her writing personal to the the degree that you almost feel you are there witnessing the heartbreak she is going through at what is happening to her country yet able to also encompass with equal ease and erudite commentary what is the bigger picture of what is happening in her country.
How neat that both Jim and I posted about her book around the same time. It’s great news. The cover is beautiful!
I hadn’t seen your referance to Riverbend because I was doing some work, Took a break and had a feeling to visit her site when I saw the current posting.
Have the book and hope they will put out another by her with same format.
Posted it up than caught your Diary and Referance, thought about pulling mine down but figured it was such good news lets just leave it!!
It’s an Award well deserved, and if she survives she will offer Alot not only to Iraq but to the World, Make My Words!!
Jim
I have written to her with tears in my eyes to praise the austere beauty of her writing, but I’m sure it must be rough for her to take praise from Americans. Her work is important, on balance probably much more important than anything I’ve done in a 20-year legal career, and I’m delighted to see it get as much range as possible.
