Psst — since katiebird isn’t here to see it, we can all give in to our worst eating habits — but just while she’s gone. Hot pastrami on rye and chicken soup with matzo balls for me.

No pastrami on Wonder Bread with Miracle Whip?
What a funny photo and caption!
I think I’ll have a patty melt, fries with extra l000 island dressing to dip them in, and creamy cole slaw. Burp.
I’m just throwing this out in the hope of. . .is anybody here, besides me, a fan of the band Neutral Milk Hotel? Or Audioslave?
Neutral Milk Hotel? That name is a hoot.
Isn’t it? The band disbanded some time ago.
I’ve always kinda liked Bare Naked Ladies
But alas, their web site is pc only…a travesty, I might add.
Peace
We always suspected you liked bare naked ladies. <grin>
:{)
Peace
I keep clicking on the red square… ya musta forgot the link…
It’s gone…that’s my story, and I’m stickin’ to it.
Peace
I keep clicking on the red square… ya musta forgot the link…
Ha!…unbelievable
Me too.
Is this a trick or are you going to supply a link to some bare naked ladies?
No way… Uh uh…
Peace
Well, let me say that is one fine trap you’ve set to snare the prey of decadence and lewd attitudes among us.
We practice catch and release sportsmanship here?
ha!…I won’t get into the mounting process.
Peace
no one noticed you two playing all the way over here. But you’d be wrong. I have to say that I am really disappointed in you two — all that build-up and all we get are some boobs given the John Ashcroft treatment.
ah-ha! Let me know if that snare is too tight. Your depravity has been captured for our enjoyment.
What took so long?
if I care that I’ve been caught.
But it’s not a curtain, it’s a banner. . .
ohho.
Claps hands over mouth.
I finally realized this meant you left your virtue at the door too….provided it was intact when you came to the door.
π
Virtue is highly overrated.
So this is what you guys get up to on Saturday night, hmmm?
;^)
Perhaps you want to reconsider your phrasing of that question?
… um, fitting … lol. π
We seem to be getting dangerously close to an event that’s socially unacceptable performed in public here.
We all got lobster last time it happened.
We loovves lobster.
(Watching LOTR 2)
I love lobster too but I’m afraid I can’t be the one to get it for us. I’m too old to chalk it up to experimentation and it’s not in the plan for my midlife crisis. Although, we could search out an opportunity of role reversal if ‘she’s’ a lobster buyer too.

Saturday Night Fever
Shoot me now…Please!
Peace
I did read the previous comments, you know… I’m not sure you guys are safe to hang with tonight. :o)
I just wasn’t sure where dada was sending us after that last link π
I’m glad I don’t have to behave any more than I am so far. I wasn’t sure where the link would lead either but off I went.
Now every time I picture dada, he’ll be wearing a white suit!
White tonight, black tomorrow
Eat yer heart out…Bwahahahahahaha!
Zoots!
Peace
Do you have any links to clips from either of those bands?
Sorry, I don’t. I was just listening to their albums today and thinking how, though they are VERY different, they have in common the fact that their lead singers don’t hold anything back. I love that, whether it’s in an altie band like NMH or a rock screamer like AS. I love the sound of out-there emotion. Weird lyrics also appeal to me. π
Check this page out and tell me if these are some of their better ones. I haven’t tried them yet but they should work.
Neutral Milk Hotel
The album I have is “Aeroplane Over the Sea,” and I love every song on it, though I am most partial to the last one, “Two-Headed Boy.”
Your musical taste is clearly much more evolved than mine but since you mention weird lyrics, I wondered if you had ever heard (and liked) the Roches?
I think I have heard of them, but not heard them.
You recommend?
Maggie and Suzzy!
Maggie and Suzzy?
Two of the three Roche sisters (Terre being the third).
And I recommend based on my music tastes — the problem being who knows if you like my taste in music. Their lyrics are often weird, often snarky and sly, alway interesting.
Who could forget “Dear Mr. Sellack, can I have my job back?”
I used to sing it to the owner of the pizza shop after every Dead tour…worked there for 7 years off and on!
I was going to try to pick a favorite song but I can’t do it. I think I can make myself say that A Dove is my favorite album.
But I’m awfully happy to run into someone else that likes them because it sure doesn’t happen very often (ever).
My favorites for weird but cool lyrics are They Might be Giants, and Crash Test Dummies, excerpted below. I love this song:
“God Shuffled His Feet”
After seven days
He was quite tired so God said:
“Let there be a day
Just for picnics, with wine and bread”
He gathered up some people he had made
Created blanket and laid back in the shade
The people sipped their wine
And what with God there, they asked him questions
Like: do you have to eat
Or get your hair cut in heaven?
And if your eye got poked out in this life
Would it be waiting up in heaven with your wife?
God shuffled his feet and glanced around at them;
The people cleared their throats and stared right back at him
So he said:”Once there was a boy
Who woke up with blue hair
To him it was a joy
Until he ran out into the warm air
He thought of how his friend would come to see;
And would they laugh, or had he got some strange disease?
God shuffled his feet and glanced around at them;
The people cleared their throats and stared right back at him
The people sat waiting
Out on their blankets in the garden
But God said nothing
So someone asked him:”I beg your pardon:
I’m not quite clear about what you just spoke
What that a parable, or a very subtle joke?”
God shuffled his feet and glanced around at them;
The people cleared their throats and stared right back at him
I love that!
“And if your eye got poked out in this life
Would it be waiting up in heaven with your wife?”
lol!
The clips I found and linked to were pretty good. There was one each from the albums. I’m a long time fan of acoustic guitar so they fit nicely.
Thanks.

Former Senator Eugene McCarthy passes away at 89…and just reporting that actor/comedian Richard Pryor is dead at age 65… π
Gene McCarthy was my introduction to politics. I worked for his campaign when I was a senior in high school in 1968. His ideas deserved much value than they ever got.
And now for my serious post. I finally talked my husband into calling child protective services on his daughter and her boyfriend, who are both drug addicts with all the attendant criminal behaviors and who have a 5 month old child. Today her mother found what sounds like crack pipes as well as pills and other drugs in the bedroom they inhabit at her house, and there was a big confrontation where they took off with the baby and no one knows where they are. I have been wrestling about calling on them for the past couple of months, because sometimes she seems to be snapping out of it and taking good care of the child, and other times she’s completely out of control and neither my husband or his ex-wife seem to be able to snap out of their denial long enough to do anything about it.
Today I had had enough and I told him that if he didn’t make the call today, I would do it, and then I would resent him forever for putting me in the middle instead of making the call himself. She’s going to assume I called anyway. But I wanted him to face reality and act like a father instead of her friend.
It’s important for the child that he/she gets out of that situation before any permanent damage takes place (physical, emotional or psychological) — I’ve seen what my in-law’s friend has gone through with raising/healing her grandson.
Eventually you have to open your eyes and realize that you can’t ignore the obvious any longer…glad your spouse finally owned up to his responsibilities as a parent and grandparent…
It’s really tough to do what you did but I think what you did is so important. My mom went through the same kind of thing where my stepfather just wouldn’t deal with how destructive she was — my mom took it even further by actually taking the kids from my stepsister and raising them for several years. Frankly, I think my mom saved those kids lives (one of whom was the sweet flower girl who has grown up to be a fantastic person).
It’s hard when it’s in your own family. I only see her and the baby about once a month, and all the information I was getting was second or third hand, so I never had any concrete proof of what they were doing. The baby is fine and well taken care of when the grandmother is home, but when she works during the day it’s just the baby at home with 3 people who are drug users and have criminal records. I felt stuck in the middle because they already hate me for marrying their father, and I didn’t want to report them just to be vindictive because I don’t like them either. I lived in a constant state of worry that they were driving around high with the baby, or that he would soon be crawling and find a bag of crack on the floor…any number of things. I’m sure this will permanently seal my fate as the Evil Stepmother.
I have to honestly say that I’m sure my stepsister never forgave my mother but I don’t know what I think her forgiveness would have been worth. But that fact didn’t ever really affect their marriage (any more than the fact that I didn’t like my stepfather much did) and it didn’t stop my stepsister’s kids from loving my mother. I’m sure your husband, like my stepfather, appreciates your caring and pushing him to do the best thing.
YOu did the right thing, even if it was hard. That baby has no way to protect himself in their care.
Did you say they just took off with him after a big kerfuffle with your husband’s ex-wife? I hope he’s okay.
We don’t know where they went. They do this every time they get into a fight with her mother. They crash at various people’s houses for a while and then come back home. I’m convinced he is a drug dealer (pit bulls and expensive cars with totally blacked out windows) so when they say they are staying with “friends” I am very worried. Much more worried than her parents are. They said an investigative social worker would be out on Monday.
How is NC about stuff like that? Here, you need stitches or broken bones or incarceration before anyone will intervene.
The guy sounds like a real prince. Why does the mother tolerate it? I guess she’s worried about what will happen to the baby if she kicks them out of her house?
Exactly. She’s between a rock and a hard place because she’s afraid they’ll bolt and she won’t be able to keep an eye on the baby anymore.
Our county is pretty good about it because they count emotional abuse and creating an unsafe environment…not just obvious physical abuse. I’m sure that’s what they’ll find in this case.
What we need is some sand and sea
Bright moments

Great picture. I’m convinced.
No sun, but temp has been 35+ since this morning. There’s water running in the streets. I still didn’t get all the ice off the sidewalks. And the driveway still has a patch of six inch deep snow that a spade will hardly dent.
The intermittent light rain will certainly make life interesting for drivers later this evening as the temp drops below 32. I think I’ll stay inside and keep my toes to the fire.
Why did Catnip leave after all?
All she would say is that there were creative differences and that there was no unfriendliness in her leavetaking.
Just lovely. How was Wupatki? Did you go by Sunset Crater, too?
Yes. I went in at the Sunset Crater entrance and drove the whole loop, even though I couldn’t get out everywhere I’d have liked or walk the trails nearly as much as I’d have liked. I got a gorgeous shot of Wukoki Ruin that reminds me of you, which I’ve already uploaded and will post if you’d like.
The visit to the park was amazing. Mere words never do it justice, and pictures don’t really get all the way there either. When I was leaving, I was cruising through the park with Rush’s Spirit of Radio blaring, the spirits of the Anasazi sailing on the wind beside me, the San Francisco Peaks before me, the Painted Desert in my rear view mirror, and the feeling was about as close to religion as I ever get.
That’s my idea of religion too, Indy.
I’d love to see the shot — even if a ruin makes you think of me π
the feeling was about as close to religion as I ever get.
Oh yes.
I get this feeling more in the Colorado Plateau than anywhere else. I think it’s because the the connections between myself, the past, and the nature seem so much clearer and cleaner — everything (including me) seems to be at its most elemental and unembellished.
Beeutiful. What a sky.
It really is breathtaking out here. Wait ’til I post pictures of snow all over the desert — it looks like another planet.
I sure hope you’ve warmed up by now, Kansas. I keep flashing on mental images of you all bundled up like TeacherToni’s kid. π
You could still walk by me and think I was a ball of yarn.
Look, here’s something older than you! π
Yeah older but just barely.
And yes a truly gorgeous shot — the color of the ruin is really set off by that ultra-blue sky and I really love the way you used the offsetting curves of the rock on the left and the winding trail on the right to frame the shot.
I’m going to guess that you’re holding up better as ruins though.
That shot is perfect.
don’t know about that but at least I’ve had less shoring up.
Uh…yeah, that’s exactly what I meant to do. lol, it just came out like that. Really, I have no artistic eye whatsoever. I point and shoot a bunch of times and hope at least one comes out.
Ah so you say but you still had to choose how to take the shot — we’ll just note that you are a natural artist.
So again THANKS to all who weighed in with wisdom and support to help me deal with Super Bully Boss. Thanks for helping me keep my sanity.
For those night owls and those who get early on Sunday, here’s a new cafe.
