Albert is not entirely sure about his new roomates.
On the plus side, the heater in their house runs all night, so now he can sleep sprawled on the floor next to their tub (instead of huddled in a little compact furry ball – trying desperately to keep warm during our sultry Spring nights <rollseyes>).
On the down-side, they’re noisy and smelly, and try to eat his pellets when they’re out of their tub.
They’ve more than doubbled in size since last week.
When I clean their tub, I sometimes put them in our bath tub, to have a short bath and a swim. Then it’s back to “momma” to dry off.
I wish I could include an audio clip – of 44 little webbed feet churning and splashing away. Plus, all the peeping, and the sploshing as they dive under.
We get very cool beetles this time of year. Hence they are named: “Christmas Beetles.”
I’m confused — where are the dogs?
What’s with all the white stuff stuff Andi? It’s nearly Summer Solstice. 😉
here they are.
Giddy spots a mouse.
Giddy goes after the mouse.
Sniff tests the waters (cold).
Andi, what breed is Giddy… looks a lot like my mutt Smokey…
Giddy is a malamutt, best guess for the non-malamute part is german shepherd.
that was what I was thinking based on how big my smokey is (115 pounds)… we were thinking shep too, but he doesn’t really have any of the colouring or body structure.
she weighs about 80 lbs.
whew — that’s better. Thanks. (not that I don’t like the chicks, bunny and beetle too — I was just confused). And what breed is sniff? I love the paw dipping into the water.
keres has a beautiful dog named Luna who normally visits the blog but she must resting from the stress of all those ducks.
Sniff is a beagle and ???? — I think some kind of terrier.
Here’s Luna, who mere moments ago, crashed out with a heavy sigh in the front hall (where there is barely enough room for her between the front door and shoe rack).
He’s beautiful. I’d love to have a dog that beautiful. Does he have a good disposition? I find that big dogs are usually very gentle.
Luna is a “she.” And yes, she’s very sweet – loves people, kids especially, and gets along with just about every animal.
She’s only 18 months old (and still growing), so she’s bit TOO enthusiastic at times in her interactions with other animals. She should settle as she matures.
oops. Sorry Luna. I’ve always had boy dogs so I tend to refer to all dogs as “he”. But she IS quite beautiful. The picture of her looking at the ducklings is precious.
of a dog-tired dog.
(Who deperately needs a bath!)
that dogs give when they lie down. I wish that I could make a sound like that. Sort of sums it all up–the state of the world, life, everything.
Giddy is still as beautiful as last week.
Thank you. And how’s your handsome husky? Did he enjoy the snow as much as Giddy did?
Wishes she had some snow.
When it gets hot you can see it in her eyes – she saying “Yohoo, I’m a Pyrenean Mountain Dog. As in MOUNTAIN = SNOW = big honking wooly coat. Sheesh! People, even with that funky looking forehead you’d think they’d at least be able to figure out the simple stuff.”
Giddy hates the summer and loves the snow. She goes out, makes herself a nest in the snow, and sleeps in it. Her coat amazes me — the wet never seems to penetrate past the top layer.
He’s not a very outdoors-y dog, so to see him actually want to go outside was a welcome treat.
Of course, it was above freezing and he spent most of the time sleeping under the tree, but still… 🙂
Where antipodean dogs sleep on spring/summer days.
…nor snow, nor gloom of night will keep dogs from sleeping in their appointed spots.
Anybody know a good breeder of Polish Lowland Sheepdogs? My sister just moved back here and I’m trying to talk her into getting a dog. My schedule is too hectic — wouldn’t be fair to the dog. But I would make a GREAT Aunt. We had a Bearded Collie mutt when we were kids and she’s interested in a Polish Lowland Sheepdog, which is similar. Actually — I’d like to rescue one but they are apparently rare in the U.S. so not many need rescue.
I posted this link on the open thread because I think its so funny. Apparently no one thought it was as funny as I did. Guy in Ohio is suing a police dog. They served the dog with papers and he signed them by making his paw print. Maybe other dog lovers will see the humor in this.
Given how dogs usually leave their “signature,” shouldn’t he have made a pee-print rather than a paw-print?
And if the dog’s lawyer loses the case, can we expect a malamutepractice suit?
LOL and worth a 4
I thought it was hysterically funny. I can’t wait to see how Andi testifies!
I have a beautiful red Alaskan Husky–named Rusty Scuppers Red–he ispart malamute part Siberian. He loves the snow and we are getting lots of it now.
Here is his picture:

He also appears in the “Mackinac Mystery” series books by his middle name of “Scuppers”
and has his own blog! He may have to give his opinion on the whole ‘Andi’ story.

I love dogs and there are some great pictures here. Thanks everyone for sharing about your furry companions.
I think we would all like to hear his opinion on Andi’s case — but only if he has someone to translate that opinion into English 🙂
That’s a great story Mary, thanks. I just informed my Stella that if she’s ever involed in a lawsuit she’s on her own. I’m not hiring a lawyer for any silly reasons. Lucky it’s a county dog, they’ve probably got lawyers. Whew, and I thought it was getting too expensive to keep pets!
An unaltered male Welsh Corgi.
He speaks English and he’s psychic.
Or else he has the shapest ears/nose in the history of caninedom.
Every morning I let him out the door…down the wooden steps to a nice little dog run that lives outside of my Bronx cave. He explores for a while, does his thing; I watch if it’s nice out or I go back in.
Usually I come out and call him. Noisy out there…the street is only 50 yards away, lots of trucks and sirens and cars and people. Plus my door is REALLY thick and I am at least a story higher than the run. He NEVER comes up until I call him…if then…and I bring him in and give him his morning kibbles.
A couple of cold mornings ago…and remember, this routine has been going on for about three years with no changes whatsoever…I let him out and ducked back in the apartment. closing the door after me because it was REALLY cold. I was in a rush…had an unaccustomedly early job…so for the first time ever I put his kibbles in his pan before going out to call him in. When I opened the door,,,again for the very first time…he was right there, waiting to come in, and headed directly for his feed corner with no detours whatsoever.
You tell me.
Did he HEAR it? In the midst of a Bronx morning rush, complete with 700 screaming Jr. High students across the street?
Smell it? Dry kibbles a story higher through a reinforced, burglar-proof door with no open windows?
Or…is he living on a higher plane?
You tell me.
Smarter than most of my friends, for SURE.
AG
Higher plane, definitely.
Should’a named him “Yoda”.
