Hey Booman, anything you can do about that Netflix link toward the bottom of the page that doesn’t work? I want to order a subscription for my daughter for Christmas and I want to give the site credit for it, but there’s something wrong with the link (click it and see what happens).
What I want for Christmas I won’t get unless they hurry up and serve an arrest warrant on one George W. Bush, last known address Crawford, Texas, currently believed to be residing in the Washington, DC area sometime before Sunday midnight. That or a cure for diabetes. But if anyone wanted to buy me a set of those Roy Zimmerman CDs that are being advertised here, I wouldn’t mind. (I highly recommend Roy. The guy is a hoot to listen to.)
Thanks for the tip! I’ll put up another one, and let you know.
btw, those links are pre-made for us … so I’m doing it again to see if we get a good link this time…. give me a few minutes.

So, how ’bout them Hawks? My son and I are going to have a guy party on Saturday to watch them take on the Colts while the wimmin go out to see Pride and Prejudice. Normally I’m not a big pro football fan but this is the sort of game that doesn’t come along more than once every couple of decades, especially in Seattle.
How ’bout them Hawks?!
(Don’t mention the Hawks around BooMan. He’s a Giants fan, and he and John at Crooks & Liars are really PO’d about the “gift,” as they call it, three weeks ago.)
Only you can appreciate how we Seattle sports fan suffer every year … how many decades ago did the SuperSonics win the championship?
I sympathise with ya there girlfriend. I am a loyal ChicagoCubs and Bears fan. never been in the World Series and only had one SuperBowl win. What a year that was though. They are getting good again and do have the best defense in the NFL this year. Urlacher is something else. Reminds me of Ditka, Hamilton days.
Didn’t the Cubs win a world series very early on, like in ’08 or something? The Tinkers-to-Evers-to-Chance Cubs?
Yeah, I know, anything that happened in sports before anyone you know was born doesn’t count, with one exception:
Sports troll: Hahahaha, Seattle is the sorriest sports town ever, only ever won one title.
Me: Would you like to make a bet on that?
Sports troll, if he’s as flush as he is stupid: Yeah.
Me: Next time you’re at the Hockey Hall of Fame, go take a look at the original Stanley Cup base. You’ll see the Seattle Metropolitans, 1917. Now fork over.
People don’t believe that since Seattle doesn’t have and has never had an NHL team, we could have won the Stanley Cup, but it’s true. You can even find the story online. (The Metropolitans could have won it twice but the 1918 Stanley Cup was cancelled due to the Spanish flu pandemic and I think the NHL was formed soon after out of all Eastern teams, or something like that.)
I put up a new little image ad … between the new Sierra Club calendar/membership ad and the DISH Network ad.
I tested it, and it worked for me. Do let me know!
(The same co. makes the iTunes links and I had a lot of trouble with those at first, so really — really! — appreciate feedback on how they work for you!)
And thank you for supporting our site! HUGS!
No prob. I bought myself a T-shirt a couple of weeks ago too. I figure for the amount of time I hang around here it’s the least I can do.
Do you wear the T at the big M?
And did the new Netflix link work for you okay?
I generally keep my penguinistic and political leanings to myself over here. I don’t even wear my EFF T-shirt, although people would care about that one much less than they would my Linux T-shirt. I don’t think that one would be a good career move.
Ohh yeah, that’s much better.
The site gets a cut from the iTunes ads, right? I’m still trying to figure out the whole iTunes thing, including how portable their files are (as in, whether I can convert them to mp3s or OGGs so I can play them on my decidedly non-iPod music-playing Palm Tungsten E) but they have a couple of albums I would like to get — in the “Guilty Pleasures” category, Christmas items from the Trans-Siberian Orchestra and the Brian Setzer Orchestra (anything called “Dig That Crazy Christmas” has got to be good <grin>).
We do get a cut — and through December it’s twice the normal cut! (hint there) —
if you want any help with iTunes management, ask darcy at tombihn dot com …
she practically lives at iTunes, and she converts her downloads in various ways.
Sounds like we’re going to have to get you to do your own playlist for us someday! (That’s no my list — to invite people to submit their favorite songs for a BooTrib play list.) And, even if you don’t want to buy the songs, you can listen to the first 30 seconds.
I really liked some of Darcy’s choices…. that Balkan group she put on her playlist is unknown, she said … she stumbled onto them and really likes their music.
(P.S. for those who don’t have iTunes, if you click on the ads, supposedly you’ll get prompts to help you install iTunes on your computer. But let me know if that doesn’t happen for you. I’ve corresponded with the iTunes rep., and she’ll try to help.)
How many songs do you want for a playlist? I have lots of them, although I have no idea how many are available through iTunes.
I can recommend one free iTunes podcast. It would be under some combination of “Sudden Death” (or possibly Devo Spice) and “Manic Monday”. The Manic Monday podcast is done by a guy named Tom Rockwell, a/k/a Devo Spice of the comedy rap group Sudden Death. His aim is to make people’s Mondays suck a little bit less by playing funny songs and doing bits like News Of The Stupid (“yes, people are stupid, and once again, they’ve proved it”) and “Horrible Movie Reviews” where he watches the really bad movies so you don’t have to. It’s one of the few podcasts I subscribe to (Democracy Now! is also on that list).
How many is up to you. I think Darcy put 17 on her list.
When you have your playlist done, I need the URL, and then I run it through the company’s link-maker thingie so that it is converted to a link that credits the site for any purchases.
Add free stuff too! Amy’s is a must. But my fav way to do Amy is to lie down at 9pm PT and watch her on my teevee via Free Speech TV on DISH (which airs her show about 5 times a day, starting live at 5am PT).
Is Tim Russert’s MTP podcast on your list too ? 🙂
(Well, at least he has a podcast. ABC is so Neanderthal … they have a brief snippet podcast only of This Week, and their other news shows, and NO transcripts. )
Let me think this over and get back to you. I have to find out how many artists I really like that I think could use the exposure (Sudden Death, Roy Zimmerman, Da Vinci’s Notebook and Logan Whitehurst and the Junior Science Club, to name just a few) are on iTunes.
Have a couple of ideas for a BooTrib iMix…
I download practically every Air America show through iTunes; some of them are on when I can’t listen (like Rachel Maddow’s former show which was on at the ungodly hour of 2am here on the Left Coast), or the signal on the local AAR affiliate drops power after dark (affecting Majority Report and Mike Malloy). The other regular podcasts I listen to are Inside Mac Radio to keep up with the latest Mac news (they now have a video podcast, Inside Mac TV), and the ESPN Radio podcast that plays highlights from assorted ESPN Radio shows.
Thinking of getting into the podcasting field sometime in 2006…but my theme will be “Bay Area Transit Review”, so don’t know how much interest there’ll be outside the Bay Area… 😉

NEW YORK (Haaretz) Dec. 20 — Approximately 70 percent of Jews in the United States oppose the war in Iraq, compared to 28 percent who support the war, according to a poll conducted by the American Jewish Committee. The poll indicates that 60 percent of U.S. Jews do not agree with the manner in which the U.S. government is conducting the war on terror.

As we expose our impotence to the rest of the world, Iran for one is watching with a bit more than casual interest I think. I can understand Jewish unease over our current “stance” in the Mid East. If we are feeling lonely these days, how do the folks in Israel feel??
the fact that I’m not sure I have a mind at this point in the holiday season — almost done with the holiday shopping, and tomorrow’s supposed to be rainy which will be a good opportunity to do the holiday baking, if I can get to the grocery store and get the supplies…
Oh, and wondering if we can clone Patrick Fitzgerald in time for the impeachment investigations — almost wish he’d been held in reserve rather than going after the relatively small potatoes in the Plame case…
Maybe the more directions we push, the better the chance that His Nibs will fall over.
my mind? the total lack of coordination between progressives – blogs, newspapers, the odd tv commentator – that particularly in these times seems necessary. firedoglake has a simple question:
Eyeah, eyeah, that’ll do. Politics. Ya gotta love it.
That’s an incredibly great post by Jane. she had previously posted this one On Image, which preceeds the post you reference.
She’s right on target in every way, IMHO.
Yeah, you are right but jeez omir, that was even before my dad was born and he’s dead…lol!
Attention anyone that gets the Sundance Channel. Last night I saw most of an incredible documentary titled “The Corporation”. I heartily urge anyone interested in the destructive potential of corpratism and the long term sustainability of life-supporting systems on the planet to see this film.
Here’s a link to a blurb on the film. It looks as though it’s going to be aired again twice this month.
(The incomparable Naomi Klein is even in it.)
Tape it, buy the DVD, make sure you find a way to get your kids to watch and absorb it.
I showed it in my classes last June, and hope to again this June. They read the novel Jennifer Government in conjunction with it.
Thats really great that you showed it to students.
Maybe there’s some hope after all.
Or evil or something …

She’s an idiot. All the morning talking heads are Republican idiots.
Is there any reason — or a newsworthy sort — that every time I turn to CNN or MSNBC, I must listen to more stories about the plane crash yesterday that killed around 20 people?
The expansion of the crusade theatre is on my mind.
US Warns Turkey Of Air Strike On Iran, Syria
I couldn’t help myself I went and looked. I found this:
“The president now needs to task the Justice Department to go after the New York Times and Washington Post for revealing US natl. security secrets, both in the case of this wiretap story and the CIA prisons the Washington Compost revealed. These same hypocritical and co-opted media sources screamed bloody murder about the harm the “outting” of a pencil pusher at Langley, Valerie Plame, caused and demanded investigations and indictments. This is a far more serious breach of US natl. security than the outting of a nobody hack bureacrat at the CIA, which wasn’t a breach at all. So what’s good for Karl Rove and Scooter Libby I guess is good for the punks at the NY Slimes and Washington Compost…and the buck stops at the top just like they demanded in the Plame leak.”
