Scott Cameron poses with his sign, in Duluth, Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005. Cameron, a volunteer for Democratic candidate for governor Steve Kelley, never thought his modest memorial to American troops in Iraq would transform a quiet downtown street here into the latest front in the country’s tense debate over the war. Cameron’s sign tallying the war’s dead and wounded rests just a few feet from the local Army recruiting office, and Cameron’s refusal to take it down despite Army requests has drawn national attention.

When the Ship Comes In
by Bob Dylan
Oh the time will come up
When the winds will stop
And the breeze will cease to be breathin’.
Like the stillness in the wind
‘Fore the hurricane begins,
The hour when the ship comes in.
Oh the seas will split
And the ship will hit
And the sands on the shoreline will be shaking.
Then the tide will sound
And the wind will pound
And the morning will be breaking.
Oh the fishes will laugh
As they swim out of the path
And the seagulls they’ll be smiling.
And the rocks on the sand
Will proudly stand,
The hour that the ship comes in.
And the words that are used
For to get the ship confused
Will not be understood as they’re spoken.
For the chains of the sea
Will have busted in the night
And will be buried at the bottom of the ocean.
A song will lift
As the mainsail shifts
And the boat drifts on to the shoreline.
And the sun will respect
Every face on the deck,
The hour that the ship comes in.
Then the sands will roll
Out a carpet of gold
For your weary toes to be a-touchin’.
And the ship’s wise men
Will remind you once again
That the whole wide world is watchin’.
Oh the foes will rise
With the sleep still in their eyes
And they’ll jerk from their beds and think they’re dreamin’.
But they’ll pinch themselves and squeal
And know that it’s for real,
The hour when the ship comes in.
Then they’ll raise their hands,
Sayin’ we’ll meet all your demands,
But we’ll shout from the bow your days are numbered.
And like Pharaoh’s tribe,
They’ll be drownded in the tide,
And like Goliath, they’ll be conquered.

SPINBOLDAK Afghanistan (MSNBC) Jan. 16 — A man on a motorbike drove up to a crowd watching a wrestling match in an Afghan border town, killing 20 people and wounding at least 30 others — the deadliest in a recent spate of attacks.
The attack came hours after a bomb hit a convoy of Afghan army trucks loaded with troops in the southern city of Kandahar, killing four people and wounding 16. Earlier reports said five had been killed in that blast.
The combined toll was the worst in a day from bombings in Afghanistan since U.S.-led forces overthrew the Taliban in late 2001 and came just hours after President Hamid Karzai expressed concern about an increase in such attacks.
Attacks have increased as NATO prepares to take more responsibility.

Denver Post
This week, The Denver Post has run a front-page series profiling soldiers returning from Iraq. Their stories were sad and powerful, and they illustrate the varied backgrounds and experiences of our troops. The series puts a human face on the suffering caused by the war and reveals just how small a stake most of us have in the Iraqi conflict. We’re not being asked to pay a special war tax. We don’t have to ration anything. We’re not seeing our brothers, sons, fathers and uncles drafted into the service. And most of us don’t have a loved one in Iraq or Afghanistan. While the war rages on the other side of the globe, we simply live our uninterrupted lives.

In the clap-happy kumbayah that color celebrations of what King stood for, the government and the media must not forget what he stood against.
What if you were Iraqi, What would you be doing in present situation/occupation, in Your Own Country?
thanks to all that keep us all in reality. Rub, you are one great person. To the rest, I love you all for coming here to share the grief of this. Oh, How I want this damn war to stop and pray for peace.
