Good evening all,
I went to the local Drinknig Liberally tonight.
Here is my exchange with Time Waits for no Woman earlier tonight:
Hi there, TW,
Just back now. This is the Hoboken chapter, actually hosted by the founder, as I understand it (though he is moving to the city soon).
Here is the link to Drinking Liberally, look for your location (hopefully there is one close by for all of you) and sign up for mailing list.
This was my second time. Some 8-9 people (about the same number as last). Good people, good discussions – though I sense that my orientation is significantly to the left of the crowd (our Kos meet-ups in NYC have had participation that I consider much more to the left compared to this). But I don’t mind at all to throw in some radical questions and ideas with the group – listen to responses and expand on topic.
Hoboken, New Jersey
* Third Wednesday of each month (next meeting January 18), 8:00-10:00 pm
* Mulligan’s, 159 1st St (between Bloomfield and Garden)
Well, I don’t know what your perspective is.
I’ve been in Hoboken almost 5 years, what I hear is that it is much better than even 10 years ago – not to mention before that. Obviously, there has been significant gentrification over the last 2 decades.
I enjoy my environment.
No.
That did not come out right.
Hoboken is quite charming, but clearly a ‘labor’ town, though there are real estate interest that want to over-develop it.
Early 1980s, when gentrification was just beginning to take hold. Amazingly safe place; apparently both the formal and informal local governments had some pretty effective enforcement.
How clueless is General Motors, anyway? I heard a radio ad this morning for their hot new roadster, the Pontiac Solstice. So tell me — who would give a sportscar a name that means “Standing Still?”
As their market steadily shrinks, they keep building more of what their dwindling base buys.
In the late 60’s I raced sailboats on the Great Lakes and used to run up against middle managers in the auto & related industries. They were oten easy to beat because they managed ‘at’ their crews instead of motivating them like a team.
I told one of my friends once that if somebody as unsophisticated as I was could see the flaw in that approach, odds were some in their industry would figure it out eventually.
Well, I am awake now…but I still need coffee to recover from the piercing tones of her voice. Thank heavens most of these calls are in the afternoon, when I can deal with it. (and yes, I’m still on the call…)
Early morning conference calls with someone who sounds like Fran Drescher should be unconstitutional. The only thing worse would be if one of the participants sounded like Gilbert Gottfried — that would be a crime against humanity.
Read Let’s Just Knock Him On His Ass at Eat 4 Today. Ductape’s rants knock me on my ass!
Hey it’s got the –more– in there. Did it work for him or did you do it?
I did it — I wish I understood how it works.
will be wrapped inside the check, in the usual place.
{{Ductape}} I was so happy to see it. I’d been wondering if you were ranted out.
and I are working hard for you.
I’m thoroughly impressed…

Haven’t been to Hoboken for a long time, but I recall it as kind of a hidden gem. Still nice?

Guess you had good time, then. 🙂
That’s what it feels like now 😉

Remember when Chevy tried to market the Nova in south america (I think) and couldn’t figure out why it wasn’t selling well. It translated to “no go”
GM has actually made the identical mistake before, in a different language.
out that’s even stupider. It’s almost like a dare.
Darned if I can remember what it is at the moment.
The Saturn version is nicer..but still not a 350Z.

Too bad I didn’t invest in that hunch.
Have you decided what you’re going to do Just 4 Today? Come over the Eat 4 Today and tell us about it. And don’t forget to read the new rant from Ductape Fatwa while you’re there!
Avoid the post-prandial discomfort of the glutton.
Can’t let you go to work without your cuppa.
We need you to either drink more coffee or nap at work so you will stay awake after work and visit the cafe more.
It’s probably a good sign that I woke up awake today, isn’t it? I’ve been struggling all week, but today I seem ready-to-go!
If I can just get a couple of things done at work today — I might just make it.
Just for today kb will come home from work and hand out drunken 4’s in the cafe instead of sleeping on the couch.
Hmmm, maybe I should leave that for Friday or Saturday, since we don’t want everybody to have hangovers.
I am on a conference call with someone who sounds just like Fran Drescher, the nanny. Yikes!
So you probably don’t need coffee?
Well, I am awake now…but I still need coffee to recover from the piercing tones of her voice. Thank heavens most of these calls are in the afternoon, when I can deal with it. (and yes, I’m still on the call…)
and “Fran” just mentioned that she doesn’t meet deadlines well…ooohhh.
Early morning conference calls should be illegal.
Early morning conference calls with someone who sounds like Fran Drescher should be unconstitutional. The only thing worse would be if one of the participants sounded like Gilbert Gottfried — that would be a crime against humanity.
I don’t know if I could keep a straight face talking to her in person….
And that’s among the reasons, there will never be a video phone in my house.
Heh, not to mention what I’m usualy wearing at 8 AM….
I know it seems a shame to shut down a cafe when it’s barely out of its youth, but I had to do it for reasons of national security.
Come on over. . .LINK: New Cafe.
