Cheney’s mastery of the gun is legendary. His reputation for the proper use of force for sport and otherwise is irrefutable at this point. Heck to listen to media coverage of his shooting of a hunting pal, it’s almost as if he were gardening or cooking when he shot that old man in the face and neck with a shotgun.
Here are the two turns of phrase that have been used over-and-over by MSM outlets and in this very blog:
‘peppered him with shot’ – sounds delicious!
‘sprayed him with pellets’ – that couldn’t hurt – it almost sounds refreshing.
From now on, let’s avoid these cutifications and simply state the situation for what it was: Vice President Cheney shot an old partner in crime in the face and neck, another example of his pattern of negligent use of military force due to violent obsessions, incompetence and myopic focus on the prey of his choice, despite changing circumstances.
in the face and neck??? Thanks for the update.
I hadn’t seen that on the “news” yet.
How can a person accidentally shoot a fellow hunter in the face?? CNN made it seem like it was in the leg or buttocks.
And… why isn’t the media commenting on the fact they were hunting from their cars in a “canned hunting” operation.
Monday’s hunting trip to Pennsylvania by Vice President Dick Cheney in which he reportedly shot more than 70 stocked pheasants and an unknown number of mallard ducks at an exclusive private club places a spotlight on an increasingly popular and deplorable form of hunting, in which birds are pen-reared and released to be shot in large numbers by patrons. The ethics of these hunts are called into question by rank-and-file sportsmen, who hunt animals in their native habitat and do not shoot confined or pen-raised animals that cannot escape.
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported today that 500 farm-raised pheasants were released yesterday morning at the Rolling Rock Club in Ligonier Township for the benefit of Cheney’s 10-person hunting party. The group killed at least 417 of the birds, illustrating the unsporting nature of canned hunts. The party also shot an unknown number of captive mallards in the afternoon.
“This wasn’t a hunting ground. It was an open-air abattoir, and the vice president should be ashamed to have patronized this operation and then slaughtered so many animals,” states Wayne Pacelle, a senior vice president of The Humane Society of the United States. “If the Vice President and his friends wanted to sharpen their shooting skills, they could have shot skeet or clay, not resorted to the slaughter of more than 400 creatures planted right in front of them as animated targets.”
Disgusting! No real hunter would go to such a place. But, what else would you expect from a five-deferment dick.
On the radio I used “shot his friend in the head”. I think that is fairly to the point.
I just heard the incident re-re-reported on CNN:
‘A BB from the vice presidents gun has made its way next to Mr. Whittington’s heart and has caused an irregular heart beat.’
How incredibly passive is that?!!? Brilliant stuff. A BB?
Reality translation:
‘When the Vice President shot Mr. Whittington, a piece of the ammunition penetrated the lawyer’s chest and lodged into his heart, eventually causing a heart attack.’
Incredible times.
