A commenter suggested the other day that maybe we should stop recommending cafe diaries as there are so many that go through in a day, what does everyone think.
I think we need to start reminding people to unrecommend the old one…maybe even put CLOSED-UNRECOMMEND in the title of the old one so people remember to go back and do it.
First I voted No, because sometimes I feel bad for a great diary that doesn’t make it due to no space, but I think the FBC is easier to find on the rec.
When I first arrived ManE invited me over to FBC, I’d hate to say how many days it took me to find it.
So why not add one more slot to the rec list to account for the FBC, then we still have the same number of regular diaries.
wanted to share a recipe for treats that I use for every party I give.
Rice Krispies Cheese Treats
2 sticks butter softened
10 oz extra sharp cheddar cheese shredded
2 cups flour
¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper
¼-teaspoon salt
2 cups Rice Krispies
Mix cheese and butter together very well. Add flour, salt & pepper and mix again. Fold in rice Krispies. Form into balls and flatten with fork. Bake for 15-20 minutes in a 375-degree oven on a foil covered pan. I like spicy ones, double the pepper, and add a ½ teaspoon each of Cayenne pepper and Cajun spice.
Sometimes it’s really hard to get work done when both the cat and the dragons are hovering!
Busy afternoon…while I’m sitting in meetings I’ll be thinking of all of you hanging out and goofing off! So – I’ll see you guys late tonight or early tomorrow morning!
This is my first time in the cafe in a long time. I don’t usually have the time to “hang out” so I just come and go.
But I took the day off work today because I went to the funeral of a wonderful, lovely friend who died of lung cancer on Saturday.
My heart is breaking a bit today, but there is something also wonderful about having experienced enough love to have your heart broken. Pat was a great woman, who described her last few weeks as living in a “waterfall of grace.” What a blessing it was to know her!
And thanks to all of you for creating a space that makes me feel at home – and occasionally gives me a laugh. DJ, the line about no alcohol in the rice crispy bars was (as they say in Texas) a hoot!!
Even though the physical body is gone, the spirit lives on in memories and the love of her friends and family. Cherish the memories and keep having those heart felt conversations. She is listening and answering – just on a different level.
I am sending warm thoughts of love and healing to all her loved ones.
I don’t think there are words that can ever make the loss of someone you care about less hurtful but that eventually the joy of the good memories provide a balm to the pain. In the meantime, good thoughts going your way.
It not easy to let old friends go. I’ve lost three lifelong friends in recent years and I still find myself thinking about our times together, almost on a daily basis. But those times were some of the best, so I try to focus on those memories.
See Wikipedia: <b<February 15, 2003 was a global day of protests against the imminent invasion of Iraq. Millions of people protested in approximately 800 cities around the world. According to BBC News, between six and ten million people took part in protests in up to 60 countries over the weekend (the 15th and 16th)[1], other estimates of the total number of people range from eight million to thirty million[2] -[…]</b>
I took the photo below at sunset on February 15, 2003. This “Sundog Sunset” will, for me, forever symbolize the efforts of all those desiring world peace who took part in protests that weekend.
I think where the hotlist is, above the recommended diaries, should be renamed the FBC and keep all the cafes there. Instead of hunting up and down for the current café, you’ve got them all in one place and can choose from the current one to ones farther back.
I still like the idea of having a host no matter which day of the week. With a host the café becomes sort of a hybrid café/welcome wagon.
So in the spirit of what I’ve just written, I think the café should be off the recommend list, but plainly in view for newbies.
That’s an idea too Janet, just like world, recent and rec. diaries…but we’ve asked about this before and I don’t think Booman wants to do it…Booman, are you there?????
My feeling about the rec. list is that it’s not necessary, since the cafe’s are over so quickly…people who rec. are not always there to unrec. and that’s pretty unreliable a way to manage cafe’s.
I wonder if it’s not time to rename the world spot above to the FBC. and use that to have the running commentary….which recycles automatically.
Seems like the personal hosting, while nice, is difficult to manage as well.
I guess I should do a diary about this to discuss, maybe tomorrow.
I hate to use other sites as an example but here goes. MLW has a set of dairies that are daily or if not are constants on the site. in the right hand box above the recommened dairies are a list of regular features that you can click on and bring up all the daily rants, all the open forums, so on and so forth.
That’s a good idea too. Maybe Boo’s people can talk to MLK’s people and see if they can get the code to insert into system…we gotta talk to the Booman,, where are you…
Thanks, maryb2004! Not a view from my bedroom window, but I only had to walk half a mile from my apartment to take this picture. At the moment inspiring walks and taking pictures are the ways that I cheer myself up after leaving my family to accept what turned out to be a totally annoying job.
Thanks so much, AndiF! I agree about the painterly photographs. I always think about whether I would sit there for days on end to paint it. I wish I could paint! I also agree with your tag line. Today I went to Point Lobos at lunch again. What a blessing that some kind soul thought to set that place aside as park land, otherwise it would be covered with mansions and off limits to riff raff like me!
The furniture I was waiting for today didn’t show up 🙁 which means I vegged out here for nothing…and will have to stay home again tomorrow.
OfficeMax has some ‘splainin to do…(would’ve used the Office Depot link but they didn’t have any desks that would fit the area I have set aside…they were all too damn big…)
the time till just a few minutes ago — got involved in playing one of my games (Sims 2). Just about to hop on the phone…stuff was supposed to be here by 5pm my time and that was half an hour ago…
Okay, just got off the phone with Office Max — they have delivery in their system as 2/16 — doesn’t matter that my freakin’ receipt said 2/15.
Okay, so I stayed home all day for nothing…and will probably be home all day tomorrow before they show up. 🙁 Going to finally get showered and dressed, and telling the spouse he’s taking me out to dinner because I’ve got freakin’ cabin fever… 🙁

many could use some teeth fixing in congress and also some hair combing properly, I was watching Levin today and he has one of those extreme side over and back forward kind of combs, I think he would look so much better showing his head with a normal haircut.

I think maybe a little area for the cafe/social would be helpful. Contests, humor.. The Light Side??
Please be sure to unrecommend the 2 cafes that are currently sitting in the reco list. Thanks!
I just put up a poll, so please all vote so we can get an idea.

I think the way it is is easy as long as you read. LOL

That would be served in a glass beside them. LOL

Hugs Diane – welcome back to hosting the FBC!
We’ll see you later, Sallycat!

I’m so sorry for the loss of your friend. And I’m so honored that I could make you smile a bit on such a hard day.

Hugs and well wishing. There’s never any good way to say goodbye to a dying friend. Hang in there.

My condolences on your loss NLinSTPaul.

Thanks everyone for your kind thoughts. I knew I’d find some comfort in the pond.
I’m heading out now to spend the evening with a group of Pat’s friends. We’ll eat, drink some wine and remember our friend.
February 15, 2003 world-wide anti-war protest

Sundog Sunset SW of West Fargo 2/15/03

That’s an amazing picture. Good idea on the copyrighting because it’s really stealable.
What an incredible sunset. On that day my oldest son protested in downtown Cleveland with a couple thousand others.
NDD, that is one hellava photo…KUDOS!
Peace
Thank you for sharing that amazing image!
They are doing the recap of the men’s short programs from yesterday. Johnny Weir(sp) program was incredible!!!!
And he’s such a snarky smartass besides. Working on a crush?
I like the attitude. The best male skaters have always had a little attitude. no crush… he is way too young!!!!! LOL
Who wants to have a crush on an old fart — I’m an old fart and I know I wouldn’t ever have a crush on me. 😉
well, I prefer old fat=rts closer to my age. LOL at least that way you have something in common besides…
see you got me so excited I couldn’t spell fart or remember to use spell check, LOL
;o)
Andi has no taste. Which is, of course, why we’ve stayed together so long.
the judging ruined that sport for me.
I wasn’t going to watch this year.. but I was overruled LOL
Scott Hamilton what an irritating, critical putz he is!!!
Only way I can enjoy the sport is to mute the TV and just watch each skater.
he isn’t as critical as the girl/woman to his right.
no doubt LOL
She’s Snatchzilla!
I think they try to outdo who can be the most harsh.
I think she is upset cause she is too old to be out there and doesn’t look as good as the guy on her right. LOL

of the available space, 2/8 spots.
That’s definitely one too many.
I agree! Give it it’s own category/slot.
That’s an idea too Janet, just like world, recent and rec. diaries…but we’ve asked about this before and I don’t think Booman wants to do it…Booman, are you there?????
Dada’s Dog. His mug makes me happy. So I kept it. 🙂
We could have “The Dailys” section.
and, it’s Ms. Bu, if you don’t mind.
Bu
Peace
That makes me even happier : )
Love…
Peace

does booman have a list of regular diaries and a link to them? Couldn’t the cafe edditions be in that?
not quite sure what you mean, could you elaborate.

I hoe that explains a little better.

Hi all.
I voted for recommend because that suits my slacker personality.
No live blogging of curling?
lol You and me both. I am watching figure skating.
I think I’m getting the hang of this!
That’s a beautiful pic…I still can’t get such a good pic in closeups,,,maybe I should look at instruction book…lordy no…not a info book..
It’s all too easy with my camera, just push a button and lean in!
Yep! Getting the hang of it. Thanks again for all the help Boo Team!
I LOVE this picture. I wish it was the view from my bedroom window.
Thanks, maryb2004! Not a view from my bedroom window, but I only had to walk half a mile from my apartment to take this picture. At the moment inspiring walks and taking pictures are the ways that I cheer myself up after leaving my family to accept what turned out to be a totally annoying job.
My idea of a perfect beach.
The Monterey coast along 17 Mile Drive. It is perfectly lovely, you can just aim your camera anywhere and get a great shot!
That was worth the effort (the flower, too).
I really like painterly photographs.

Hello all. Are there any empty seats in here?
grap a chair and a cup of java or a drink which ever makes you happy
Don’t mind if I do. Thanks very much.
Always a place for you. And if there isn’t, I’ll just shove Jim off his chair.
I would never shove a fellow teacher out of his seat. On the other hand, if he were an administrator….

ROTFLMAO!!!! Another fossil
Come on over here.
Be sure to unrecommend this one before you do.
