You know, I was just over reading John Kerry’s latest diary at the orange place (unfortunately, not yet available in green) and it struck me that we (us blog communities) are doing something extraordinary and unprecedented. John Kerry came very, very close to being the President of the United States and he (rather than Bush) could very well have been in India and Afghanistan today representing our nation, or in the Oval Office dealing with the most urgent business of the day.
But, he’s not. He’s over at Kos’s pad talking strategy for the upcoming election. It’s a humbling thing to think someone like John Kerry would think it is a productive use of his time to converse with Kossacks and lay out his thinking on issues. We shouldn’t take what we have accomplished for granted or shortchange ourselves about what we can do in the future.
I’d also like to give a shout out to one of BooTrib’s newest members, Paul Hackett. I like a man who keeps his word.
I was very conflicted when Paul dropped out of the senate race. I wanted him to tell the dems to shove it but understand the pressure he must have been under from them. At least Brown is a progressive(or so they say).
So, when will Paul be hosting his first cafe? 😉
Maybe maryb and kansas can entice him.
Que bueno para ellos… pero mi parece mal que los “perdidos” no se pueden hacer mas para el bienestar de todos.
Forgive the Spanish… been a long crazy day.
Pax
are you a perdido now?
¿usted ninguna naranja más larga del desgaste?
Ummmmmmm…some of us are not bilingual you know? LOL
it’s okay, I’m speaking bilingual jibberish.
too funny Boo!
As someone who speaks bad spanish fluently, it made perfect sense to me 🙂
are essential. There is such talent and diversity in the blog community that can be found in few, if any other places. I read the front page of several blogs daily, and post on a select few when warranted. The key is to understand that the blog communities are not bank vaults, but rather people. It is not just words on a screen, it is the people behind those words and the inverse, John Kerry and Paul Hackett are just people. Just because you see them on TV does not mean they should be above interacting with the people, and there is no better and more effective way of interacting with thousands and potentially millions of people at a time than through this medium.
Thank you again Booman for this forum and for your work.
Barry Welsh Indiana 6th District Democratic Congressional Candidate
Do you know how weird if feels to twice have a diary bump John Kerry off from the top spot at the orange place?
It feels very strange. He’s received more votes than any other Democratic candidate for president. I haul junk on the weekends. Weird.
I felt the same way when I knocked Conyers down once. It is a strange feeling.
Boo…have you been drinking this afternoon? Your wit is quick and sharp this afternoon. You made me laugh out loud twice in less than a minute in two different threads. Thanks…I needed a good chuckle.
Sadly no. I make it a policy not to drink before 6pm, unless it is New Year’s Day or I have to apply hair to the dog.
On the other hand are Conyers and Kerry in the same snark league as us? I don’t think so.
obviously not, if so they would have been in 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. long ago.
How many electoral votes do PA and WV have combined anyway. Shit, we’re practically there ourselves.
Don’t you think that perhaps that might be the reason they didn’t in fact end up there? Hell I dunno.
Even Hunter Thompson called Bill Clinton a humorless dude, after all.
Thanks for saying it, Boo.
And I believe that this is just, in many ways, the beginning.
By calling this “our thing” (you know, that “thing” we’ve been doing), does that make people like John Kerry and Paul Hackett “our friends” or “friends of ours?”
I don’t know.
Are we the Capo di tutti capi or are they?
Yes. Just as I consider you a friend too.
too lazy. You want Kerry on the blog, e his people. Tell them you’re delighted to accept the same diary, just posted by his staff. Offer them some special member number — that’s what Kos does. If you didn’t keep some early numbers open for them, then maybe use a number that’s got “00” in it. Somethin’ special. And come right on after the first post, or just before it, and say that it’s the real deal, so people don’t worry about it.
Exposure is exposure. Politicians need/like it. Ask and ye… nevermind.
It says a lot about what you guys with the green and the orange are doing. It also says that maybe John Kerry isn’t as much of a stuffed shirt as his detractors make him out to be.
Give me a break.
This guy was a rock during the 2004 campaign. Sure, he made mistakes, but the biggest one was probably hiring Bob Shrum. Despite the right wing smear machine, the swift boats, the phony poll numbers, and all the other sick GOP antics, Kerry came out fighting every single day of that campaign.
There are things we wouldn’t like about any politician, and Kerry is no exception. But how many billionaires blog on Kos?
How many 401K liberals does it take to make a billionaire?
At any rate, I agree that Kerry campaigned well–too bad he folded like a stinking wet dishrag when it came down to the “count.”
I’ll never forgive him or the Dems for failing to fight when there was still something left to fight for.
And that would have been in the year 2000, actually, and they folded on and let that WIN be taken from the People who clearly, clearly voted Gore into office–possibly a forgivable offense, but, after 4 yrs of B*shCo, there was no excuse. None. What.so.ever.
