Sunday spread on Thursday.
All you can want self-serve coffee and food.
Hellloooo…anybody here?
Sorry, put up the diary and then went off looking at diaries and visiting blogs.
How’s things in PA today? Everybody get on the school bus?
We’ve got rain this morning…and I think we’re going to be off for a strep test for young CabinBoy this morning.
We’re supposed to get an ice storm or something today, I think.
How’s Brown County this morning?
Sorry to hear that CBtY is still sick.
Even sorrier to hear about the possible ice storm. I’d rather have a foot of snow than an inch of ice. We had a big ice storm here years ago and it was a mess — not just lost of power and phones for days but the amount of destruction in the woods.
It’s been a bad winter for him this year.
I’m hoping they’re just wrong about the ice. Or at least, wrong until after I take the young man to the doctor this morning.
And I love my tree guy, but I’d really like to get through this winter without having to have him come clear the fallen trees out of my yard and off my house…
I love my tree guy, too and his location is so convenient.
LOL!
I’m here.
Good mornind CabinGirl
Good morning Andi
Good morning, Mr. Knows What Women Want. 🙂
Hmm…I still don’t have a 4 from supersoling for the above comment…I hope I haven’t offended him or objectified him or something…
super?
I hope he went to get us all ice cream. It’s a little early in the morning but that’s OK. I just want to see if he gets all of our flavors right 🙂
Good morning Andi, CG and super.
They say snow is heading our way again.
Maybe the airport will be closed? As mentioned in Happy Hour last night I’m supposted to go to Sudan today, but right now, the only place I want to go is back to bed (up since 5.15).
Wishing you a safe journey and a speed return.
Thanks Andi – gone for a week and a half.
You could also consider that a wish for you to have a speedy return to bed, if you want.
Ah, much prefer that interpretation.
Do you have an afternoon flight? It sounds like you’re hoping it will be cancelled…
Yes, on both accounts. I’d rather stay here and play hooky with curly.
Good Morning Everyone.
Good morning, mystery man. Taken George/Henry for his walk yet?
Nope, he’s still asleep. He’ll let me know when.
Good morning, Courtney Beauregard. I assume it’s going to be a very warm day down where you are. It’s going up to 80 today in Raleigh, with 35mph winds in the afternoon.
Good Morning SN. It’s supposed to be about the same here with weather. That sort of makes me worried about when the worst of the summer gets here.
You Southerners™ must be a hardy lot to be able to withstand these hellish summers. I do love the weather from October to May though.
There’s no hardy to it – Air Conditioning. I couldn’t get through a summer without it. Reminds me of my grandparents though. My Dad tried to put air conditioning in their house onetime. They wouldn’t hear of it. A box fan was all they ever used, and frankly I don’t see how my Grandmother could stand being in the kitchen. BTW what does the little tm after Southerners mean?
The “Southerners™” is my way of acknowledging the often fierce loyalty and identification of all things Southern that the locals have.
Since I moved here I’ve felt very out of place and even ostracized because I’m a “yankee”…which apparently means that I am rude and have no manners.
I’m sorry you’ve felt that way. I know what you mean, since I moved around so much and always retained the southern drawl. Since I live in a little college town, we’ve always been a little more progressive. But don’t get me wrong, we still have our people like that here and I’ve even gotten some of that from them. They’ve told me I sound like a “yankee”. You’ve heard me, now truthfully, do I sound like I’m from Jersey. 🙂
Jersey? No way.
My husband is from the south and lived in Chicago for ten years and in Japan for two years. He said he got alot of flak for his southern accent. So I guess it goes both ways.
Now that so many people are moving down here because of tech jobs and the weather, the locals are feeling overrun by yankees.
I’m always amazed though that they think southerners have a lock on manners and all northerners are rude and despicable.
I wrote an essay for our local paper about that very thing a couple of years ago.
A couple of years back my town hired a local artist who also grew up in Jersey. He graduated from college here and decided to stay. Anyway, to brighten up the town, they hired him to paint all the dumpsters. He’s an artist, but also a house painter. Has to pay the bills. Anyway again, he paints all of them in a Peter Max fashion and with different parts of Sgt. Peppers Lonley Hearts Club album. It really did liven up the place and not one complaint. BTW, everone around here knows the guy was Wizard.
I found the link to the article I wrote if you’re interested in reading it. Be warned, it has me real, entire name attached.
Linky Linky
I’m going to read it and thanks for posting it. Like I said since I’ve been gone so long, it’s interesting to me to see how people view here, that now live here.
I just read it and I think it was great.
I can tell you not all Southerners are that way but I guess I was lucky to be raised with an open mind.
You were lucky. Not all Southerners are that way, but damn I do feel outnumbered sometimes.
Good Morning all. Can’t stay for coffee; 7:30 meeting today.
Good Morning maryb. Have a good meeting, I think 🙂
Good morning and much sympathy for the early morning meeting.
Hello everyone!
Waking up to the third sunny morning in a row this week. (It’s been a gloomy winter here in Ottawa.) And the days are getting longer. Can’t wait for spring!
Coral lily, taken 7.27.2005 but uploaded 3.01.2006 (view large)
Wow!
Selected the medium size img instead of the small. My apologies to all those on phone lines! 🙁
What CG said.
And also: sexy
As always Olivia, need I say more?
That makes my heart ache it’s so beautiful. Sigh.
Good Morning to Everyone!!! I hope everyone had a fabulous day!!!!
I hate ice storms. I hope it goes away or at least is slight and warm temps come fast for anyone facing that.
Sending warm thought of LOve & Healing to young CabinBoy and anyone else who is still not feeling well.
Morning refinish. You’re as chipper as always.
Morning. I try. LOL
Is that one of your designs? It’s great.
Yes it is. Thank you. I have fun with them. I cannot post it so it links back to the store anymore. My url’s have been blocked. I guess someone complained.
That stinks! Everyone posts links; I wonder what happened.
BTW…you have an extra “a” in library. 🙂
I don’t know but the links in my signature still work. LOL
OMG, I will get the design corrected
Sorry, I figured you’d want to know. :0)
Thank you!!!! Adobe photoshop doesn’t have spell check and I am the worst sometimes. LOL I appreciate the help.
Good morning Refi!
Good Morning!!!
damn I messed it up again.
I have it corrected finally. LOL
is nearing completion…installation Monday/Tuesday. Here’s the colors (but I think the photo is kind of yellowy):
Okay, that picture should be WAAAYY smaller…what happened?
Please tell me you didn’t build that yourself. I already feel like such a putz compared to you.
Ha. I wish I were that talented. But no, my friend’s neighbor (a woman who used to be a pharmacist, how funny is that?) built them. There’s a bottom section too that has drawer, and runs under the windows as a window seat. I’ll have to post more pictures once they’re in.
I can’t wait to have more space to put all my stuff.
I like the colors. It’s very similar to what I just painted our family room, and next project is to paint the built-in bookcase which is now just dark wood. I’m trying to decide on a cool color to go behind the shelves.
I’m actually thinking cranberry red and a limey green will work (as accent colors) with what I picked. I need a new couch, so that’s next on the list.
I thought about lime green as well. I wonder if I should leave the shelves dark wood or paint them white which is what the crown molding and wainscoting is.
I’d paint them, but then, my entire house has log walls, so I’m pretty tired of looking at nothing but dark wood. I think a light green in the back would look great with the white.
It looks fabulous and I love the idea of a window seat where I could sit and read. I use to live in an apartment years ago that had window sills so wide you could place a pillow on them and use them as window seats. I sat in the window more than I did anywhere else.
FYI. Yiddish speakers consider putz a really bad obscenity, unlike schmuck which is considered mild so be careful where you say this — my mother will give you a klop of the kop if she hears you talking that way.
Really? What about saying I was putzing around in the garden? I hear that all the time.
Nobody I know uses it that way — maybe the goyim have got ahold of the word and changed it to mean putter. A putz is a jerk but the word carries lots of underlying meaning — Bush is a putz, my crabby neighbor is a schmuck.
Thanks for clearing that up. Apparently it’s one of those offensive things I’ve been saying unknowingly my whole life…ACK! Don’t tell your mother; she’d beat bumps on me.
Yup — a klop on the kop is yiddish for a hit on the head. But there’s those subtleties — she’d only beat bumps on the people who pick on you and klops seemed to be pretty much reserved for me. 🙂
But don’t worry about it — who’s to know. That’s what I like about yiddish — I can said bad stuff in polite company and get away with it (mostly).
ROTFLMAO!!!! I had a bf years ago who taught me yiddish phrases but forgot to tell me which ones would be offensive to his mom. Needless to say the woman never liked me for that and many other reasons.
Whew! well klops I can take.
It took me years to figure out that some of the words my father used were off-color if not downright offensive.
I found out much too late that monkey-ball trees were really sweetgums.
It was sort of the opposite way for me — any sentence that started “ssh the kinder” followed by a switch to yiddish meant I needed to listen carefully and then go figure out the yiddish words I didn’t know.
That’s interesting, because I’ve used both words all my life.
The bookcase looks great CG. I’m jealous, I’ve still got a ton of books still in boxes.
Well George has let me know it’s time. I’ll check in with ya’ll later.
I’ve been trying really hard this morning to avoid starting my new painting project; my daughter’s bedroom, but, alas, the time has come.
I hate painting. But I love looking at all the color samples at the store!
Can I procrastinate with you? What colors?
I’m almost ashamed to tell you the color name because it’s really way prettier than the name would suggest. Behr: clam chowder.
It really looks like melted butter though. And I’m going to leave the trim dark wood because it’s a pain in the ass to paint.
Actually feeling fairly well-rested for the first time this week — rear end feels less painful too, at least for now. Still don’t really feel like eating anything, but have to get something in my stomach to take my morning medication…wonder if a glass of milk would be enough…
Supposed to be damp early, then clearing up later — maybe I’ll have a chance to get out and play; been cooped up here most of the week. Sounds like it’s dry now, so if I can get my sore butt in gear, I could at least squeeze in a few minutes on the treadmill…
Predicting early local snow for tomorrow…I’ve heard of “white Christmas”, but white birthday? Still haven’t figured out what we’re going to do to celebrate the day; it depends how I’m feeling for one thing. Spouse is going to go shopping tomorrow; I advised him that I need a really nice dress watch, so hopefully he’ll take the hint.
All right, time to try moving…
Hey, all — steppin’ in just under the wire here again to send greetings from the snowy Catskills. It’s certainly comin’ down today — as I consider another four mile hike to the local general store.
Phoned earlier & dropped a little hint about the possibility of a just-this-once delivery, but the proprietor hung up on me. Burning bacon on the grill, no doubt.
In any case, I’ll sign off now & see if they’ve reconsidered.
Later, folks! Enjoy the day — & stay away from grounded aeroplanes.
Ahhhhhh, your weather sounds nice to me right about now. It’s around 80 here and I’m painting a room and I’m sweaty and earthy smelling even with all of the windows open and the fan blowing on me.
Howdy from the Heartland. Must leave the house now in search of chocolate.
New cafe here.
