George Clooney was on the Facts of Life?
Oh yeah. I had a crush on him in my early teens.
Oh my gawd! He looks so much better NOW!
No one looked that good in the 80’s. 🙂
not a bad line Clooney gave: “I’m proud to be out of touch”.
A very charming speech all in all.
but then again at that time I was still in my twenties heading towards 30. And pounds thinner myself.
Yay, George for Syriana!
Felicity Huffman has a slamming body. And her dress is beautiful.
something I didn’t expect to hear…
“What advice did your obsretician give you about having fun tonight?”
With all the political content of the top movies and John Stewart – I have big expectations for tonight!!
first reference to Dick Cheney shooting someone. Bjork.
The slam at the MSM was perfect…
Surprise #1 — Clooney takes Supporting Actor (I think most folks thought Gyllenhall would take it). Might be an interesting evening…
Nobody seemed to crack a smile. I imagine it’s tense over there, but sheesh.
I wanted Gyllenhall to win. I liked his character better than Heath Ledger’s in BBM and I wanted George to win best director for Goodnight and Good luck. Oh well.
Hey I picked Clooney for supporting yesterday! but I see I missed supporting actress.
Clooney’s speech was good. Funny, self-deprecating, and defended Hollywood’s “liberal” traditions.
is adorning a postage stamp this year. He said he was glad to be part of a group that was out of step with the rest of the country, so to speak.
Yeah, Amen. This guy is so great. I love the work he’s been doing lately and hope he stays overtly political. Fabulous.
I thought it was going to go to either Giamatti, Gyllenhaal or Dillon.
Well, well. One for 3.
what is ben stiller doing?
I think he’s doing the kids’ films or something…
I wish we could post polls in comments. Mine would be:
Who annoys you more : Ben Stiller or Kobe Bryant?
At least Kobe has talent…
Reese Witherspoon is coming on — spouse giving her a standing ovation (or at least part of him is)… 😉

was in “Crash” — then again, so was three quarters of Hollywood.
Great Stewart line: “Raise your hand if you weren’t in Crash“
it has to do with green screen effects. Filmmakers put up literally a deep green screen when they want to erase something from the picture. It’s a bit of an in-joke – not sure most outside the business would know how that works. i thought it was hysterical! But then, i’m on my second beer…!
does this gets gets me banned? Before it gets buried, while we are gown watching, via Left Coaster is this first lady’s gown.
with Ben Stiller a bit overdone IMNSHO…then again, just about anything with Ben Stiller is a bit overdone…
I thought it was funny. It could have been worse – it could have been an interpretive dance. 😉
“Meet the Fockers”
It was Dustin and Barbra who were over the top then.
He was a little of everything in Mystery Men.
I wish Dustin Hoffman would do comedies for the rest of his life. He is soooo fabulous at humor. Tootsie is still one of my alltime favorites!
I have a full roast beef hoagie here with everything on it. I think Reese Witherspoon should partake.
I grew up on hoagies and good soft pretzels. They’re the 2 things I miss most about Philly.
to see “Wallace and Gromit”…
They fucked up identifying Peter Sallis. He’s an older guy in his seventies; I know him from Brit TV. But they kept focusing on this young guy who looked rather doubtfully at the camera.
I was just wondering why the audience isn’t laughing more at Jon Stewart. But then I remembered. They’re all rehearsing their acceptance speeches and worrying whether they’ll have a chance to use it. Too bad they can’t mike the upper audience with nothing at stake who are probably eating him up!
is too cerebral for the audience — as for me, I’ve been meaning to set the DVR to pick up “The Daily Show”…
there’s only three songs nominated for best song this year…death knell for original movie songs?
Anyone else think Dolly looks a little anorexic?
n/t
Do I dare comment on Dolly’s pantsuit?
n/t
it was…er…well tailored.
As was her carefully sculpted (and resculpted) body….
go for it.
Did you see the dress she wore on the red carpet? Even more tailored.
no, i missed it. Where is Madama Fatwa with the snark?
I used to have a dress like that. Plunging neckline and Forties type ruffle accentuating my…well..behind.
She’s alright. She’s getting out of wearing big hair, thank goodness.
n/t
or how patheticly boot licking you may be or how wishy washy you are…..instant Booman attention tinged with a strange “pantsuit” credibility!
at least I can appreciate professional wear.
and damn it……I’m gonna be somebody too!
anymore, no matter who is sponsoring this Oscar show. They have folks make them up for gigs like this from home.
Any old “blonde” in a pantsuit will do.

I had to look away. Grotesque.
ferhevvinsake.
My apologies. I misunderstood your comment.
but I’d heard it before…iTunes Music Store had it available as a free download…
Jennifer Aniston’s necklace is quite fetching…
Cosmetic surgery needed!
I watched A Beautiful Mind last night and I still think Russell Crowe is a prick.
That’s funny, I think he’s a prick too…
Geez. OK everyone, raise your hand if you don’t think he’s a prick.
If he wins, I’ll be pissed.
He’s still a prick!
Especially when he dumped the likes of little miss perfect, Meg Ryan, after she left her old man.
Meg never wanted a long-term thang, her marriage was dead for sometime, and Russ helped it end. Quaid even publicly thanked Russ, which was, well, weird.
Crowe is exceptionally talented as an actor – if only he’d realise he’s exceptionally bad as a musician! – and has the ego to go with it.
His kid & number 2 on the way seem to be settling him some. It’s more than time he got some anger management therapy tho’.
I think he’s brilliant and a little full of himself. Time will take care of the latter.

would you like to explain that comment? :p
even into old age. They don’t mellow. At all.
given I doubt you’ve seen a very big sample. Even thinking of Australian men who’ve made it Hollywood, for every Gibson (shudder) there’s a Guy Pierce, or a Hugh Jackman.
I doubt you’d appreciate me making such a blanket statement about American Black men, blksista, so why make such a blanket statement about another country?
And Hugh is one of those rare exceptions. Mel, by the way, was born here and is a cultist to boot.
There’s a wide range of black actors who do more than just play pimps or corrupt cops. However, I’ve gotten my information about Aussie men from more than just the film world, hon.
So back up and enjoy the show.
There’s a wide range of black actors who do more than just play pimps or corrupt cops.
exactly. And there’s a wide range of Australian males, of which Hollywood is a tiny sample.
I don’t think your comment here has helped much, in all honesty.
Jackman is not a rare exception – not if you live in the country surrounded by Australian males.
Let’s leave it that Aussies don’t impress me as much as Kiwis, and Kiwis don’t impress me as much as English guys, and American men don’t impress me as much as say, French guys, okay?
This ain’t about black versus white, although it appears you would like it to be.
I’m just floored at you making such stupid generalisations about a whole nation’s worth of one sex, and yes, it happens to be my nation. It’s just rude, and unnecessary.
And btw, Russel is technically a Kiwi!
Will you just take a breath and calm down? This ain’t even that serious, sister. That’s what I call stupid. Let’s face it, few Australian men would impress me. I’m just stating fact for me. And frankly, I have met Aussie men. South African white men can be a step above them, imho.
But if you really want to take it that seriously, then I suggest that you take a real, good, hard serious look at the continuing legacy of the white settler/criminal/exclusionist experience in Australia; and how the boorish and sometimes racist behavior of the government and the citizenry, especially in light of the recent harassment and stigmatizing of Arab immigrants, is seen and read about by other people of color around the world.
I also don’t have to talk about alcoholism and hooliganism among some of your country…men as well.
But that would be behavior that I would not countenance with black and white American men as well.
if you hadn’t been needlessly rude in the first place. And please don’t lecture me about Australian politics – that’s not where you started from, and that’s not what we’re talking about.
Your comment upset me. Your comment was needlessly rude and generalising. If I made a similar comment about Americans you & many others would be rightly pissed. What makes you think it’s ok to make it about other places? Those Australian males you described as all being testosterone-laden and full of themselves are my brothers, uncles etc. Your comment hurt.
At the risk of being crushed under the wordage…
The original post that set this off:
even into old age. They don’t mellow. At all.
“To me,” seems to make it very clear this is a personal viewpoint, as if great care were taken to specify it was a particular opinion, not a blanket characterization that is supposedly a universal truth. “To me,” is a nicer way of saying IMO (in my opinion).
If the “To me,” was left off, I might understand taking offense. But I can hardly be offended that someone holds that opinion, especially when they make it pretty darn clear they know its their opinion, and not a general truth.
So, one of you feels that way. One does not. Its all cool.

doesn’t help at all.
“to me, Aboriginal Australians are obviously 40 IQ points or more less intelligent than whites”
“to me Americans are all bigoted loud-mouthed fundamentalist christians”
A generalisation is a generalisation. We don’t allow people to make them about demographic groups unchallenged for a reason, they stereotype and promote bigotry.
“To me, Aussie males…” etc. was just another example.
Nice makeup on Will Ferell.
n/t
nice goatee.
Darn…and those “Star Wars” folks did wonders with Dick Cheney…
I saw he had Jamie Foxx cracking up in the audience.
I was too busy looking at Nicole Kidman’s boyfriend to notice…

Keith Urban.
going for the Kiwis!
I like New Zee…
Despite the stumble on his opening bit, I think that Morgan Freeman should just take over in the Senate after Robert Byrd retires / dies. He has that same gravitas when he speaks.
Black is back as a gown color.
and honey, she’s so preggers her breasts are almost pooling over her maternity gown…
I like Rachel, but I haven’t seen the movie. I was rooting for Catherine Keener or Michelle Williams.
I couldn’t help but laugh when she said something about “brimming over with humanity”…
the podium. She also out of breath.
Film noir retrospective coming up.
there’s a new Oscar thread.
