It’s nice and roomy in here. Plus, no soggy cereal.
I’m just over here at work, doing my job in between laughing my butt off at Howard Kaloogian. How about you guys?
Well, I’m finally awake. That’s an accomplishment of sorts.
Howdy Izzy! Glad you could make it. Just a quick de-lurk here to say hello to all, and report that spring seems to have finally arrived here … bulbs are bursting forth, we’re getting pretty regular rains, the temperatures are on the rise, and we even have the threat of violent thunderstorms and such forecast for tomorrow!
Gotta love spring in the midwest … we sure do! Time to clean off the front porch for storm watching sessions…!
Hey IVG, how’s it going?
Apropos of your film club idea, I found a very interesting post over on Boingboing last night. This might be a good jumping-off point for a film club:
Howdy Omir!
Stultified by work, to be honest, but I will survive (I must be distantly related to Donna Summer)…
I’l have to check that boingboing post out… thanks for putting it up. I have heard of this company, but forget its name at present. If they’re who I think they are, they aspire to give many smaller films that never get real distribution a chance to be seen either on video or the net. I wouldn’t really call GN&GL “small” (well, it is relatively speaking), but it sure was great. Still haven’t seen Enron but it’s on the wish list.
Actually what I had in mind (sooo pre 9/11 technology, lol) was something along the lines that people could propose titles (or I could propose), decide on a list of a certain number, then establish a date for each discussion… That way, people would know well in advance, and have a chance to rent or view some other way before actually engaging on them. But like I said yesterday, I’m open to all suggestions, and was just wondering if there is even sufficient interest in trying to launch such a regular diary.
Really appreciate your input, my friend!
That’s not Donna Summer who sings that 🙂 I believe it’s Gloria Gaynor (sp)?
I still die laughing when I think back on hearing a man sing it in Spanish. It will crack your shit up 🙂
Well, I was all set to say that I remember Donna Summer doing a version . . . until I went to a fan’s Donna Summer web site, and one of his FAQs relates to this very question. In brief, I was apparently wrong. My brain still wants to tell me there was a Donna Summer version that was more disco than Gloria Gaynor’s, but what do I know? In those days I was doing my best to avoid disco like the plague, although these days I can look back and see that there were some decent disco songs (MFSB’s “TSOP”, “I Will Survive,” The Stones’ “Miss You”) but perhaps that’s just my memory being kind to me.
How right you are, girl! At least I got the sentiment right. I agree w/Omir, downthread, who said he did his best to avoid disco at the time… I did too, lol!
Thx for pointing that out, and how ya durrin? (to quote Shirley Q. Liquor) Hope all is well with the Damnit household!
About the same here, Omir! Just finally caught up with the whole Kaloogian thing… sheesh! That sure sends some kind of message about truthfulness to his potential constituents! But I guess we should remind ourselves that he IS running for Duke Cunningham’s seat. And we all remember why that one is now vacant. Hehehe.
They should be honest and just auction that seat off to the highest bidder.
Not a bad idea at all! Then after the next one is caught with his hand in the proverbial cookie jar, they can auction off his stuff like they did Cunningham’s. Could be an interesting re-definition of the term “election cycle.” hehe
It’s the American way. One dollar, one vote.
well, ah, it’s not like I’m in Alabama, or anything, it just seems like a good idea… ’cause it was such a very short night, and my driving isn’t so good today, and I ‘ m g e t t i n g v e r s l e e p y !
We need our good friend from the hinterland to be at his best, so get your rest!
on our vacation — ’cause it made hiking very pretty (and very, very quiet).
Those are gorgeous! You really could make a book or something out of your photos.
but wanted to extend a cheery greeting to the Fs and their magic camera! How ya durrin?
We’re just fine and eagerly waiting to see the pictures you are going to post.
I plan on trying a photo post soon! I have some lovely shots of snowdrops and crocus that I want to post, I just need to reduce their file sizes, and try storing them (at least temporarily) on my website, and hope that doesn’t cause any bandwith issues.
On that issue… anybody got good advice which hosting services are good to use? Do they charge a lot? Can you host a certain amount for free? New to that whole idea, so anyone who has ideas they’d be willing to share will be heartily appreciated!
Thanks again for the tips, Andi! Mr. F does realize what a sweetheart he has in you, right? (that was a rhetorical question!)
I use photobucket which is free (they have a fee-based premium service but I haven’t needed it). Other people use imageshack which is also free. I think flickr is free as well but I don’t know anything about it. olivia uses flickr so you could ask her about it.
Unless you post lots of pictures like I do…then skip the premium. You get so much free bandwidth that most people don’t need to pay.
Me…I post pootie pics everywhere and then my own blog photos…so I pay for photobucket.
Ah, the high price of a serious pootie addiction.
Hi IVG and everyone. If you have any type of photo program on your computer you can usually use it to reduce the size. I have Paint Shop Pro and I usually reduce mine before I submit them to photobucket.
Get thee to PHOTOBUCKET…FREE hosting…sign up…
then proceed to RenaRF’s HTML 101 at MLW…
and remember, PREVIEW IS YOUR FRIEND…OHMMMMMM
max width for New Comments is 400 px…for replies you have to reduce it, often times to the point where you shouldn’t even try…busted margins will entail wrath…
here’s how I do it…Auto Format Version…
< img width=x src=URL for pic from PB >…close brackets…PREVIEW…Post.
Lot’s-o-help available…just ask…:{)
Hope this helps
Peace
Thanks Andi, Dada, FM, Sallycat and all you guys for such great advice! THIS is the reason I came to BT, because I felt there was such a good supportive vibe with the folks there. 🙂 Yes, I shall get me to photobucket and get an account going there ASAP so I can share with you guys. I have shot literally hundreds of pics of flowers, insects and critters around our garden, most of which are languishing on my computer! About time I share with the frog pond.
Just wait till you guys see our pups… Sally may be addicted to pootie pics, but doggies deserve equal time too! hehe. If Andi can make do on a freebie account, I’m sure I can follow her illustrious example!
Ooh, puppy pix…where has keres been with the Thursday dog blog lately, anyway?
Yes.
I married up.
Good for you! Don’t really know you guys that well yet, but I sense the good emanations all over, just from the comments and the pics you take! Wish I could get married LOL.
I really like hiking/snow-shoeing, XC sking in the snow…within limits mind you. It really is amazing, esp the quiet.
I’ve been fortunate enough over the years to have seen eagles, falcons and hawks strike during snow falls, mind numbingly beautiful and insightful experiences and glimpses into the realities of the wilds.
You’d be surprised the number of raptors that hunt during snow falls.
Too many people, unfortunately, never bother to seek out, let alone appreciate those opportunities.
And the silence is deafening, isn’t it…
Peace
The quiet is my favorite thing about snow.
Snow is Mother Nature’s “mute” button 🙂
Well, the “semi” portion of the “hosted” is about to start. I have to run my mom to the store. I won’t be gone too long. See you when I’m back. Oh, and behave!
Okay, I’m back. Hey, you guys listened to me! You were really well-behaved while I was gone. How’d that happen?
When Izzy says behave, we behave. 🙂
Did you put that turtle in your pocket?
Peace
No I decided to set it free and watch it run(waddle) off into the sunset.
You so sweet!
{{{{{Izzy}}}}}
What’s all this hugging going on?
Cute little turtle, Family Man. We used to buy them for 10 cents at Woolworth’s when I was a kid and they would commit suicide by jumping (?) out of the bowl and end up dried up under the radiator.
THat was before they invented salmonella and stopped selling little critters.
You make everything sound so child like and wonderful. 😉
I guess that means I never grew up. When you start seeing things like an adult the world gets really boring.
That’s always been my thoughts. I was reading earlier what Shirl wrote about you and coming out of you shell. I was thinking to myself she can’t be talking about the same SN. 😉
Yeah, that was funny. In real life I’m kind of in a shell, but I didn’t think anyone here got that impression. Must have been a big-ass shell!
The cafe does that. I know I was nice as could be until ya’ll corrupted me.
And we couldn’t be prouder of ourselves. Truly, a job well done.
I bow in the presence of greatness. 🙂
Having first rate material to work with makes all the difference.
Andi you’ve got to be kidding. I sit here in awe of all of you.
Could he be fishing for more complements? 🙂
Nah, that would be too obvious, and I know you are the master of subtlety.
it shows doesn’t it? Wait a minute, that wasn’t subtle.
Compliments?
Here ya go. <snark> :{)
/Peace
Straight to the point, I like that. 🙂
No subtly here tonight…no offense – just funnin’
Peace
I knew that dada. I never take offense here in the cafe. Hell that why I stay here most of the time. I’m not ready for the big guns out there. 🙂
This one was from somewhere on the internet and made me think of Olivia for flowers, DJ for pink, and mythmother’s cuteness fetish!
Been pretty busy here today…met one deadline and made lots of people happy not counting my headache! Going to get out of here early today to run some errands that require regular business hours.
I’ll drop some 4’s and see you all later in the Lounge.
You just reminded me to nag Mr. Nature again to get all of our tax stuff together to take to the accountant. Again we seem to have waited until the last minute. Sigh.
Cuteness?
I don’t see cuteness. I see a stealthy predator on the prowl.
Fly butterfly, fly. Hobbes wannabe is on the hunt.
Just thought I’d subject you all to family pictures. These are my 3 sons, minus their sister. My oldest son lives 600 miles away and I’ll never get over missing him. Boo hoo.
Just when i get ready to leave, you post such a great picture.
Just bragging about my spawn to a captive audience. Go enjoy your family! 🙂
They are all so handsome!
I can’t stop smooching on them! When are they too old?
Oh god, I hope never… 🙂
My nephew from age 5 to now (35) has always been perfectly happy to sit down and snuggle with all his mother, sister, grandmother and aunts and give back scratches and rubs w/o being asked. (Haven’t checked that he also does this with his wife but she seems pretty happy so it seems likely.)
The first thing I see is – they’re all so unique. You raised them to be themselves.
Handsome, compassionate men.
2. It appears the little dude will NOT be cursed with Bologna Nipples. 😀
(((Second))))
Little Dude is about 6 inches taller now and built like a cross between a chihuahua and a pit bull from 3 years of tae kwon do. In six months he’ll be a black belt.
What handsome sprouts off the ole brussel. (I don’t where that came from — osmosis from iowa victory gardener?)
These days I feel like an old brussel. For some reason that reminds me of a worn out Belgian whore.
That’s what I love about you — I knew I could count on you to take it in the worst way possible. 😉
Keep in mind that Belgian whores can get Belgian chocolate any time they want.
You mean they don’t have to eat bowls of frosting when they get hormonal?
Andi, you’ve got to see bood abides new diary about the Britney Spears sculpture!
It’s the quite the heights of the Wizard of Oil but it’s really brilliant. I think I like the diaper best.
(They eat dark chocolate with hazelnut centers followed by a serving belgian waffles — which btw are only served at afternoon tea)
Going from images of the diaper to dark chocolate with hazelnut centers is not a good segue. Ick.
Mr. Nature has been home 10 days and has no trips on the horizon. I think it’s about time he does. Ten days is it. I don’t know how you and Mr. F made it so long.
If dark chocolate with hazelnuts centers doesn’t move, your hormonal urges must have passed. Of course, I don’t care for chocolate so I don’t care but I did like the waffles quite a lot.
Jim and I have one ‘secret’ to a long marriage — a uneven number of pets.
How does that work exactly? 🙂
I’m sure if I’m being too literal again but … since we couldn’t split up the pets, we couldn’t split up the marriage.
That makes sense to me.
So you’ve got two cats; now you need a dog.
I have one that would love to come live with you SN.
He took this with my camera this afternoon. They’re Cherry Blossoms but he calls them “Popcorn Trees”. He took it while looking straight up the tree.
That’s neat. They’re in full bloom here too. They look like a heavy wet snowfall covered the trees.
When we get a place I want to plant some of these trees.
The only problem is: Because of them blooming… Wesley now has cravings for popcorn balls. ACK! 🙂
Too funny. (And cool picture btw).
My sister-in-law and her husband have a couple of cherry trees in their back yard. They’re the kind with three or four different kinds of cherries grafted onto the trunk. Unfortunately, the birds know they have cherry trees too . . . I don’t think they’ve ever gotten more than a handful of those cherries for themselves.
That’s a great picture Wesley took.
Tell Wesley I think he did an excellent job taking the picture of his “Popcorn Trees”.
Tell him me and Bu said Way Kewl!…encourage him to use the camera more…could be a really great expressive outlet combined with his love of music and film…
Hi to Shinobi
Peace
We’re trying it again… we first gave him free range use of my old Pentax. And well… one too many photos of someone in the john… Plus he found a “neat” way to piss off his sister.
But now with digital… it’s no longer, “who the hell took 20 pictures of our license plate???” 🙂
Yeah, that’s the beautiful thing about digital. You never have to gripe about wasting film. If you buy rechargeable batteries (we don’t use anything but) you never have to gripe about wasting batteries, either.
How dare you give away the secret of modern photography!
When Andi and I were hiking a week ago in North Coyote Buttes, The Wave, we met a pro photographer. He was shooting with a 4X5 camera and shot 3 images on B&W film in 3 hours. We shot 170 pictures. We knew out of our shots, a lot of them were throw-aways, but we hoped some of them would turn out okay. I am sure his photographs would make ours tuck their tails between their legs if they had tails and legs, but sometimes in quantity there is quality too.
At least that’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it unless some better story comes along.
that’s the one thing I really like about digital. With film I always shot a lot but figured if I got 3 good ones of of a 36-38 shot roll I was doing real well.
Course, I was buying film in bulk and loading cassettes, but still, it was real expensive.
Peace
I think it’s in the same vein as “paint like you’re a millionairre” – not worrying about the paint, canvass… But sadly so many artists just can’t do that. Especially art teachers.
Wouldn’t it be a wonderful world if artists – musicians, writers, painters, photographers, actors, filmakers and storytellers… were what our parents wanted us to grow up to become instead of accountants and corporate heads?
“I worry my son will never make a living since his true love is water colors”…
Got to go for a while.
I had a younger brother and niece that left at mid-day and now my older brother, sister-in-law and their grandson just arrived. They’re here for a week. Their grandson is 2 1/2 and as cute as can be. There will be a lot of excitement with him and George for the next week. I hope George can take it.
So, I hope see ya’ll a little later, if not, then for sure the cafe tomorrow.
Family ain’t it great. Hence the name Family Man. 🙂
I’ve got another errand to run. I’ll be back in a bit.
Me too. Gotta go get some Pizza dough…catch ya later in the lounge.
If Mythmother shows up, tell her I got a picture to whet her appetite for LA…
Later
Peace
Who needs pizza dough? Here’s Omir’s Cheater Pizza Recipe:
2 bottles Ragu Pizza Sauce (I think it’s Ragu, use whatever you like or can find — about 2-3 cups)
2 cups pizza topping — sausage, hamburger, pepperoni, mushrooms, olives, onions, peppers or what have you
6 medium flour tortillas
Shredded mozzarella cheese
Cook the pizza ingredients as needed. Mix with pizza sauce, stir and heat until warm. Warm the tortillas individually, either on top of the stove or about 30 seconds in a microwave. Place 1/3 cup of sauce-topping mix on the warmed tortilla, sprinkle cheese over the filling, then roll the whole thing up like a burrito and enjoy.
There used to be a little place in Montana that operated out of a decommissioned Taco Bell that sold these pizza burritos. I have no idea whatever happened to them.
discard the tortillas for Arabic bread aka Pita pockets and you’re in my kitchen. 🙂
Lay the ingredients ontop of the bread and bake for about 20 mins at 350.
I cut up fresh basil and top it with that. Pepperoni, roasted bell peppers and voila – the best personal pizzas ever.
Just spray em with olive oil – the pita makes perfect crispy, airy pizzas.
I’m cooking hamburger helper tonight. You guys just don’t know how to dine.
Hamburger… I think it’s been almost a year and a half since I’ve bought hamburger. We do eat at Burgerville but their meat is from a co-op.
I got tired of getting sick everytime we ate hamburger.
IN the few short months of eating non-toxic food and eating from co-op farms and organic stuff… you’ll find that your body just can’t “stomach” the unnatrual food.
Plus we get more stuffed from healthy food. We’ve found we don’t have to eat as much. Make sense?
Family Man, come visit me and you’ll never want to eat anything else non-organic again 🙂 I lived on Hamburger Helper while overseas… ACK
and picked up sandwiches from Togo’s — I’m too busy getting ready for the trip to cook/clean. And spouse has a mild cold — I’m getting out of here just in time! 😉
Hope to be in the evening Cafe, once I get some crap done around here…
OK…oven’s pre-heating and here’s how it goes down tonight…your basic clean out the frig b4 it goes bad pie…all organic too, and vegetarian for those who care
mozzarella cheese, mushrooms, black olives, green and red peppers, red onion, marinated artichoke hearts, tomatoes with a hint of basil and oregano (from last years garden), fresh ground black pepper on an olive oyl glaze…and fresh grated parmesan cheese when finished
neener, neener.
Peace
marinated artichoke hearts…
I might have to Dadanap you and hug you and squeeze you and call you my own 🙂
I’ll give you two hours to quit that…don’t tell mr. Damnit tho.
As DT says…consider me “squeaked”
Peace
Hold that thought, I’ll be right over. 🙂
sorry about that. I didn’t expect to be gone so long. We had a rain-gutter semi-emergency.
Time to give up the ice-cream, folks. I’ve opened a pub.
