Andi, you’re way ahead of me with some of these. Looks great!
Looking at your list (and remembering your other ones), I don’t think so. In fact, I think we’re pretty close to a music mind meld.
The All Boy Edition
The Bare Necessities – Disney’s Jungle Book
Made To Love You – Gary Wright
Accentuate The Positive – Perry Como
Hold Her Down (Remix) – Toad The Wet Sprocket
Midnight Rider – Allman Brothers Band
Little Red Corvette – Prince

Tough Guys – REO Speedwagon
Tough Guys was one of my fave songs when I was wee:
She doesn’t like the tough guys
She thinks that they’ve got brains all where they sit
They think they’re full of fire
She thinks they’re full of shit
On the track I have, the song is preceded by an audio clip from The Little Rascals:
Darla: Alfalfa, will you swing me before we have lunch?
Alfalfa: Sure, Darla.
Spanky: Say Romeo, what about your promise to the He-Man Woman-Haters’ Club?
Alfalfa: I’m sorry, Spanky, I haveta live my own life.
Hee!
Hi Indy. I’ve got to tell you — self-centered bitch that I am — I’ll really be glad when the move is all done because I really miss having long discussions with you.
I guess I’m Self Centered Bitch, Jr., because I feel the same way. 🙂 But I keep reminding myself that you are physically on the other end of the move, too, so we will get to enjoy some lively and less encumbered conversations in person.
Indy! Andi! I’m so jealous! (But so happy for you both. 🙂
Hiya Indy! :*
{{{LIV!}}}
Glad to have your butt over here.
We will still be about 2 hours apart but it’s an easy drive and I have family in cincy so it should work out really well.
Friday at last:
Hope you’re having a great time at the meetup down there! Up here in the Bay Area we’re all starting to think we moved to Seattle, rain-wise.
Tom’s Diner – Suzanne Vega
I Shall Believe – Sheryl Crowe
Home of the Blues – Dwight Yoakam
Wallflower Waltz – k.d. lang
You’re the Top – Ella Fitzgerald (sings the Cole Porter Songbook)
(You’re so Square) Baby I Don’t Care – Elvis
Got my Mojo Workin’ – Professor Longhair
Good Morning Good Morning – The Beatles
Euphonic Sounds – Scott Joplin
Keep Young and Beautiful – Annie Lennox
Enjoy!
Nice list, growthrate — that Sheryl Crow song is my very favorite one that she does. Stay dry!
I’ll try. Mostly I’m getting tired of having Little League games rained out.
I’m not much of a country fan (which for me is both Elvis and Yoakam) but everybody else — sweet.
Yeah, Ms GR doesn’t really understand why I like country music either.
Hi Indy and Andi.
Looks like a quite night so far.
Hey Family Man. You ready to ditch the family yet? 😉
I am so ready, but it looks like it’s going to be a long stay. I’m getting ready to set some rules down, but I’m to damn tired to tonight.
I was looking at the random 10 and I don’t have any, but a part of an Allman Brothers song says how I feel.
Sometimes I feel, sometimes I feel,
Like I been tied to the whipping post
Tied to the whipping post,
Tied to the whipping post,
Good lord, I feel like I’m dyin’
I need a lot of hugs. 🙁
Aww {{{Family Man}}}
Have George show them the door. Or at least, pee in their shoes.
George has been driving me up the wall barking at them, and Cat has crawled behind the TV and won’t come out.
I afraid George and Cat are going to be no help.
If I were there, I’d pee in their shoes for you.
Thanks Andi, that’s the first good laught I’ve had today.
Maybe she’ll have one of her peeing episodes!
I’m kind and gentle with Cat. If she did that to them, I’m afraid there would be no more Cat.
I’ve got to go again. I’ll try and drop by later.
When I read your comment above about Cat hiding behind the TV. I like Andi’s solution — we could all take turns. 🙂
Take it easy there, FM. ‘This too shall pass’.
(((FM)))
Sounds (reads) like you’re not having the best day… Have a hug: {{{FM}}}
Thanks Olivia. I just asked for that. You must be a mind reader.

Thanks that made me smile.
Jeezalou, it’s slow in here tonight. Do I need to offer to feed people?
Those are halupkis — a/k/a stuffed cabbages for those of you who aren’t fortunate enough to have any Eastern Europeans up your family tree.
I’ll take some Indy.
To bad NDD isn’t here. From his conservation with Ask last night I got this.
Lutefisk.
I’m serving it very sloppily with mashed potatoes and buttered French bread; there is no better way to eat this dish.
Trust me, no matter how pretty they make that lutefisk, you shouldn’t eat it.
That’s what I’ve heard about Lutefisk.
Then again, there’s some stuff we eat down here, that other people won’t touch. 😉
I’ve got 4 Eastern European grandparents but they’re in the kishke, not halupkis, family tree.
I’ve heard rumors that I stem from at least one kishke branch but that’d be on the other side, with the Irish and the Spaniards. 🙂
Spanish Jews were forced to convert or leave Spain in the 15th century so it’s very possible (although Sephardic Jews don’t do kishke).
Believe it or not I knew that from studying Spinoza in college. Love Spinoza, he’s my favorite “classic” philosopher.
I just saw that you got a bit of release of some pent-up energy over at Feministe.
I have been meaning to compliment Piny forever, and finally did so today at Alas, and then he took the discussion over to Feministe so I figured I’d pipe up over there too. You know I love the feminist blogs. 🙂
I was sorry that Lauren decided to stop blogging but Piny getting a permanent home was a great payoff.
I never read the blog very much until recently, so I’m not familiar with Lauren’s work. I’m sure I’ll poke through archives at some point, and I like the posts I’ve seen her make at Pandagon.
Did you read Pandagon before Amanda, Pam & Jedmunds were the FPers? I really miss Jesse Taylor’s writing (I loved his bizarre sense of humor), but think it’s super that he turned the blog over to someone like Amanda when he went into offline politicking.
The progression of feminist writing is awesome to watch. Some of these young men and women are so smart, funny, and so damn talented. It gives me hope for the future.
I followed Amanda from Mousewords to Pandagon so I read it when it was her and Jesse. I especially like Jesse’s economic posts.
Do you ever read Echidne of the Snakes? She’s one of my favorites.
Yes! I like her very much. I’m constantly baffled that she doesn’t get more attention, but maybe everybody’s just lurking? I have no idea what her counters look like.
I think she has a fairly constant following. I go there a couple of times a day.
I’ve linked to her several times here in hopes of getting her some traffic but I’ve never noticed anyone from here commenting.
Getting late for you, isn’t it? I hope you won’t let me keep you from sleepytime if you’re needing to nod off.
It’s 10:00 on a Friday — am I that pathetic?
If you’re pathetic then we have to invent new adjectives for me, because it’s only 8 here and I’m already thinking, shower and bed, lol. So I was probably just projecting. Sorry ’bout that!
I really should go shower and lie down, though. I have a big day tomorrow. Glad to catch up with you a little, that was nice. {{Andi}}
Yes it was really good. I’m glad you had the time and energy to hang around tonight.
Perhaps, you’re on a wavelength with the dogs. Sniff just went upstairs to bed.
Take it easy and don’t let the house stuff stress you out tomorrow.
The fact that it significantly muffles the sound of screaming kids at the laundromat is enough by itself to make the iPod purchase worthwhile.
Ramble On Rose–Grateful Dead
Gray Stables–Iron & Wine
Headbag–Leftover Salmon
Rikki Don’t Lose That Number–Steely Dan
Family Snapshot–Peter Gabriel
Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters–Indigo Girls
Inconsolable–Jonatha Brooke & The Story
The Great Beyond–R.E.M.
Feelin’ Love–Paula Cole
Rainy Day Women #12 & 35–Bob Dylan
Wow, I had no idea the Indigo Girls covered that song. Do you know offhand which album I can pick that up on, Raging Hippie?
I’ve got the live version from the Rarities album. It’s really gorgeous!
Thanks! They’re one of those acts that I loved so much immediately I still remember the first time I ever heard them, even though it’s been about 15 years. And I love that they release covers on live albums — they do a fantastic version of Tangled Up In Blue, too.
I saw them once at Red Rocks–an open-air ampetheater outside of Denver. And Patti Smith opened for them! Utterly amazing.
I’ve seen them play a few times in a few different places, including the beach and the desert valley, but never at a place as pretty as Red Rocks or with an opening act as kickass as Patti Smith. 🙂
That looks like a great set, RH. I’m familiar with everyone but tracks 3 & 7.
Iron & Wine brought my ears back to life after 6 months without music appreciation. ‘The Creek Drank the Cradle’ is just stunning.
Thanks!
Leftover Salmon is a Colorado band that plays something called “polyethnic Cajun slamgrass.” They’re a hoot! And Jonatha Brooke is folk-pop–lovely voice.
I stumbled across Iron & Wine recently and was blown away! I’ll have to go find “The Creek Drank the Cradle.”
‘Polyethnic Cajun slamgrass’? Sounds like a blast!
I’m definitely a sucker for folk-pop with a fine vocal, too — rather like Nick Drake. ‘Pink Moon’ is wonderful.
What I’ve heard of Iron & Wine reminds me of the very best poetry — depth & complexity in simple phrasing. Lovely stuff. I’m not ashamed to say that some of it inspires tears every time.
Great list. I haven’t heard Rainy Day Women #12 and 35 in, well, I’d rather not say.
This is down the road about 2 miles from Aloha’s place.
The breeze off the beach is warm and the sun is out. Everyone is talking about everything…including warming up for a weekend of politics.
Aloha has little ceramic frogs as gifts for each of us! And everyone is going to wear their So Cal Meetup t-shirts tomorrow night at dinner. Aloha is wearing a Booman T-shirt today!
Life is good here in sunny San Diego.
I am so jealous.
Wow! Beautiful. Thanks so much for sharing this — as well as your meetup. Enjoy, enjoy!
Look at all that blue, blue sky! It sounds like you’re having a ton of fun already! 🙂
You all need to wear name tags so we know who we are talking to. But whoever it is — wowie zowie.
Sorry – too many glasses of wine when I posted that picture!
Sun is setting…this is better than any gathering ever!

I’m really glad you all are having such a great time (and just a bit jealous).

An excellent list, suskind.
By all means, enjoy a nice espresso!

and CBtY and his team won all four of their lacrosee games. They rocked!
So, what’d I miss, besides a visit from Brother Feldspar?
Congrats. As for what you missed — not much. It was a very quiet night.
I’ll pass on the congrats…and thanks for putting up the lounge, too. 🙂
