So I write a long happy story and hit submit and my computer crashed.
It’s been that kind of day.
I did our taxes today. The kids always seemed underfoot as I’m trying to find the paperwork for 1099s, I owe money to the feds and the state, and my allergy might be a cold.
So that doesn’t sound like the promising start to a happy story. But it is.
My wife took the kids out. I don’t have the taxes hanging over me. A contractor is coming in the morning to install badly needed new windows (caulking really can’t fix everything). I’m alive and free and relatively healthy.
And I’ve got Kevin Smith (Clerks, Chasing Amy, Dogma) on the TV lecturing to college kids about film making, religion, sex, comic books and life in general.
So my happy story is this and maybe it’s one to remember for the next three years. No matter how bad things might seem, hold on to the happy moments when you find them. They keep you sane. They remind you what you’re fighting for.
And though I rewrote my original happy story in five minutes after getting my computer back up and running, your story might be about anything you want it to be.
I need to do my taxes, too… My roommate is planning on mailing hers in tomorrow (she thought April Fools Day was appropriate…).
And if you consider a vampire story a happy story… (well, the protagonist doesn’t but nobody ever consults the protagonist on these matters)…
My book is out!!! (even though I still haven’t seen a copy yet, dammit, and they were SUPPOSED to send me a stack of ’em too). Actually, it’s one of three stories in an anthology, Three Shades of Night, based on the World of Darkness role-playing game setting. I wrote the vampire story — there’s also a werewolf and mage story. The three stories are overlapping and the characters actually cross paths, so it’s also one big story from three different points of view.
The cover, btw, has nothing to do with the content of the book, other than it’s supposed to represent a mage, werewolf and vampire. Nobody ever consults the writers on these things…
Coming soon to Amazon.com and Borders and any gaming store near you….
So that’s as happy a story as I’ve got this week…. 🙂
Congratulations to you!!!
The most amazing people are here 🙂
Congratulations! We’ll have to celebrate at Subway or the Chinese place.
Indeed! Later this week would be great (my office will be a tad shorthanded and crazy for the first half, so lunch could be problematic…).
I’m not sure if this is kosher to post on another blog so please tell me if it’s not.
I was given Front Page privileges by Maryscott on My Left Wing this week. I’m doing a series on those who live within the confines of poverty or racism or sexism or being misunderstood in this country.
It started last Friday and has gotten a good response so it’s been promoted to the front page. I’m concentrating on the 37,000,000 people who live at or below the poverty line in America.
Here’s a link to the fourth edition.
Picture of the Day® #4
Of course it’s wonderful to be acknowledged and recognized by people I respect and admire but much more importantly we’re learning together what poverty looks like through the faces of those who struggle every single day.
I’m happy and grateful for that.
It’s cool with me. Go ahead and cross-post it too, if you would like.
He’s an alcoholic, the last 3 years have been hell, it’s rough right now, but I know it’s for the best. One can only live with lies for so long. I had been living in a parrallel universe and taking lots of my anger and disappointments out on Bush. Dry drunks are arrogant, take no responsibility for their actions, are not accountable for the wreckage they cause, etc..
He ‘stole’ his old Audi, now in my name, and is driving illegally (He has his 2nd DUI and lost his license for 3 years) I am tempted to report it stolen but that would be mean.
I figure by the time Bush is out of office I’ll be legally divorced and hopefully, sane again. And that will be a happy story.
Peace..finally.
is reflected in the diary right above yours.
Kermit the Frog said it best:
There’s not a word yet
For old friends who just met…
Now I’ve got to win the lottery so I can travel around the country and meet up with the rest of the Tribbers… 😉
