Beautiful flowers are usual Diane.
How’re ya doing today?
Beautiful cafe flowers.
FM I was just reading about your adventure!
Adventure isn’t what I’d call it. More a mistake in home improvement. Thanks for reading it.
Thanks Olivia, I only wish I had a camera that could take pics like you do.(and the skills)..maybe you can give me some pointers on a basic easyshare kodak camera, can they be improved on for closeups, if you happen to know anything about them or in general, I would appreciate.
I would love to help with your camera.
Could you tell me which easyshare camera you use? I’m looking for the number — should say on the camera or manual. Here’s a list w/ pix to help: kodak easyshare cameras.
Once I know which model it is, I can take a look for the specifics and get back to you. π
you’re going to take over the world by addicting us to taking macro shots, thereby putting us in your thrall because our shots never, ever match yours.
That’s not true — did you see SN’s photos in the last cafe? I didn’t give her any help at all. And whose pine needles are now gracing my desktop? π Besides, I’m an introvert and would absolutely hate to take over anything.
famous for my macro shots it’ll be due to you and the Fs rescuing me from a blurred myopic nebulae.
Now that sounds like a serious condition! LOL. I can’t wait for you all to get famous — we can say we knew you when… π
you would say all that — how can your nefarious scheme work if we aren’t all lulled into passivity (Jim says I have to be wrong because you’re Canadian but then again he doesn’t know any folks from Montreal).
Besides you guys could never be lulled into passivity.
Montréal is a world unto itself though.
Jim and right are a contradiction in terms.;)
But I won’ argue about Montreal.
we will get you out of the introvert stage rather quickly. LOL
I’m pretty much a capital “I” introvert. I am a model case. π
was a shy, mild-mannered gentleman when he first came to the cafe and look what we’ve done to him. Our pride knows no bounds.
Once we turn our laser beam on you, resistance is futile.
…can’t overcome my innateness. π
What kind of introvert keeps arguing with people instead of retreating and is known to offer to mudwrestle men.
I was trying to come up w/ a response to that but I can’t b/c I’m laughing too hard. Oy. That whole mudpit thing was not my idea! π
And everybody knows that virtual world is an Introvert’s ideal situation. Seriously, you wouldn’t get a peep out of me if we were all together in a big room.
LIQUOR ah’ve seen the amazing effects it can have on the big I people, 180 degree U turn.
Don’t let them get to you Olivia, I’m the same way. I have to get to know people before I start talking.
Then the only problem is just shutting me up.
Seriously, you wouldn’t get a peep out of me if we were all together in a big room.
I’d just say “So tell me about your garden” or “Give me some pointers on macro shots” and then sit back because I wouldn’t have to say another word for the rest of the evening.
She can’t proclaim her own victory. π
You’re an introvert. You can’t argue with me, unless you aren’t an introvert in which you will.
Now you see what I have to put up with.
At this point of the “discussion” I usually resort to sticking my fingers in my ears and singing “It’s a Hard Knock Life” from Annie. It is a particularly nasty ear worm for Andi, and it prevents me from hearing any more of her Jedi mind tricks.
I’ll have to remember that for future use.
And look: I’ve even found a red-headed icon so she will know exactly what I’m doing. <heehee>
if his strategy actually worked.
Hey I just read this and I’m still a shy, mild-mannered gentleman. Aren’t I?
Watch out Olivia, they use secrets few mortals know.
Hey I just read this and I’m still a shy, mild-mannered gentleman. Aren’t I?
No.
Straight to the point, you can’t argue with that. π
’cause then that lets me off on the whole mudpit thing — since it was all your corrupted idea to begin with. π
The mud pit my idea? If I remember right it was Mary and SN that bought it up first. I then elaborated on it and you were ready to go two on one, if memory serves.
Don’t try to pull that introvert thing. You were ready to wrestle in the mud.
Sorry it took so long, I fell into a little nap, its a c300.
I took a bit of a RL break too. I’ll take a look around and get back to you. π
Hi FM. Did you get your computer problems straightened out?
Nope. I’ve got to buy another wireless mouse. This mouse pad on the laptop is driving me crazy and for some reason I can’t get the left and right button things to work. So it’s taking me twice as long to get something done.
Did you check the batteries in the wireless mouse? My wireless trackball used to go crazy all the time when the batteries were low even though it was supposed to warn me about the batteries being low (it never did) — which is why I don’t use wireless ones any more.
Yes I’ve replaced batteries and done everything I can think of. Usually a little red light comes on, but that isn’t even coming on. So I think it’s dead.
I haven’t minded a wireless one before, but I might find one with the usb plug in and try that this time. No batteries to worry about.
Hi everyone, I’m doing pretty good FM, back is still giving me fits, but I’m getting lots of rest.
Right now I’m engrossed in a Poirot movie and then later on I have to do (grrrrrrr) my daughters tax return, which I promised to have done by tonight, I have procrasitnated for ages now.
Back to the movie, see you all later.
Love the auto 4’s now.
Hope your back get better Diane. With my mouse out, I can’t do a left click on Omir’s site to put it in the bookmark, so I can use it right now. Since I can’t do that and scrolling with the mousepad is bad enought, I’m not putting out four right now. I’ve got to figure out something to get that going.
They make me hungry for lovely flower salad.
FamilyMan I loved your dairy!!!!
Thanks, I’ll try to think of you while I’m tearing out sheetrock. π
Well, after the fiasco last night are you sure you want to do the repairs? LOL I have this vision of the support beams for the attic falling. LOL
I’m going to check back in awhile. Got some things to do.
Take care.
It was a beautiful morning for taking pictures, except maybe a little too overcast, I think. But, hey, we can’t be fussy!
BTW — I tried to get the robo-rater thing to work, but it doesn’t work for some reason. when I click on the red link underlined in blue I just get sent to a page that tells me robo-rater only works if I’m in a boo trib diary, then kicks me back to the robo-rater page. Sigh!
see here
I already tried that, sigh, and it didn’t work either, sigh. When I clicked on the roborater link and was sent to the “interim page” that said I had to be in a boo trib diary for RR to work, and bookmarked that and then went into a diary and clicked on the link all that happened was I was sent to the same interim page and then kicked back to the RR page. Sigh!
Sigh! Anyhoo, gotta go grocery shopping and will be back in a flash. P.S. Does it matter that I have a laptop and can’t left or right click? I can only center click!
It matters what the url looks like. It has to be the url for the diary. If it just says http://www.boomantribune.com it isn’t going to work.
Nope. Doesn’t work. So when you get a 4 from me, its the old-fashioned labor-intensive kind. A super-4.
treasure each and every 4 I get from you because they are handmade.
Nothing quite like it, ay?
You can right clik with a mac LT…hold down “ctrl”, click…select option…
Also, trivia alert, Robo™ works in any diary…I just nuked FM’s ‘Home Improvement’…is that not cool?
Peace
Try x-ing out of BT completely, then come back in and do it, as I had that trouble once, and think the problem was I had used the “back” arrow to get to a diary and the RR didn’t recognize that I was in a BT diary.
I’ve got a question for Omir’s 4’er. My left and right buttons don’t work and I’m using my laptop mouse pad. Is there a button on the keyboard that will do the same as the left button on a mouse? If so, I can’t figure it out.
mousekeys, you can use the keyboard. To find out about mousekey, run windows help and search for mousekeys and it will tell you all about it.
Thanks Andi.
I just got it to work and Omir this is sooooooo cooooooool. I’m just thinking how much easier it will be when I go out and buy a new mouse. Way cool.
I’m slowly catching up to what’s been going on. The Vegas trip was a success. Presentations (mine and my students) went well, and I think I’ve whetted their appetites for more such conferences – which bodes well for the sort of program I’ve been trying to build since I started teaching at OPSU.
Don’t know the details, but glad your trip was a succes, JB.
I went to the annual National Social Science Association conference to present a couple papers (one on applying the general aggression model [the theory I base much of my work on] to understanding torture and genocide; the other on authoritarianism), and to be there as moral support for a couple students who were co-presenters of a paper based on their own data (a meta-analysis on the weapons effect).
Sounds like a great trip!!!
This sounds really amazing but just makes me wonder (LOL) if the words “the testosterone factor” ever came into the proceedings? Just kidding!
Went to visit a family I’m working with and we goofed around with my camera. When I got home I realized that what the cute little 4 year old was doing with his hands is a gang signal. Sigh.
well at least the picture is so fuzzy we can not see it. LOL
I fuzzed it on purpose but you can still kind of see it. It means he’s getting them from somewhere and that’s not a positive thing.
He is getting them from TV. They show them all the time on all different types of shows.
that even youngest kids can’t escape this. I’d like to think he’s only mimicking what he has seen but he probably knows exactly what it means.
I think it’s from his big brother who the system totally failed over the years and now he just turned 18 and there’s nothing else anyone can do for him. He’s basically a good kid but this adds a whole new dimension.
That is a shame. The system including families have failed so many kids that it is scary.
Is the brother still at home?
Home but never home. Nice kid but dropped out in ninth grade and now just hangs around doing nothing. No evidence of gangs until this.
to pick up the gang sign without necessarily being in a gang. Back when I was doing community work and also working at Job Corps, kids did not hide their gang membership.
I hope so. Gangs are big around here – even on my street in suburbia.
Well it is almost evening and I am still working on the first of 3 web sites. OMG, I am so HTML challenged. LOL I am having fun and cussing at the same time. I might have the front page of the first one finshed by sometime tomorrow morning. LOL
I hope everyone is having a great Sunday!!!!
Hey everybody, what’s going on? It’s been a beautiful day here. In the 60’s and sunny.
Did you go to the Arboretum?
I went to brunch and then went to an exhibition of photography from the late 1800’s at the art museum. That was already planned.
Then spent the rest of the day in Forest
Park just hanging out, walking around, people watching, etc.
Now I’m putting my feet up and hopefully the Cardinals will (finally) beat the cubs.
Sorry Omir, wherever you are, I saw the score.
Wow. Scott Rolen just hit the ball a long way.
Why yes he did!
Sorry about Atlanta today, but Growth Rate is happy.
The loss is one thing, but did you see what happened with Chipper Jones? I hope it isn’t serious, but it sure looked bad.
I didn’t see, I just got home. What happened?
Apparently the ground in San Francisco has been under a deluge of rain for the past few days, so the turf was very treacherous. While charging a ground ball, his cleats slid out and his ankle buckled. After sliding about 7 feet on the side of his foot, the cleats caught and his knee buckled…he just laid there covering his face with his glove, holding his knee.
He eventually limped off with the help of the trainer, but wow it looked like he was in a lot of pain.
It goes without saying, but the Braves can’t afford to lose him.
ooooooooohhhh.
I can’t stand Chipper Jones but I wouldn’t want him to be hurt like that. He’s the guy I love to hate when we play Atlanta.
No news yet from the trainer – or does he need to see the orthopedist first?
He’s going in tomorrow to get an MRI, apparently.
So you don’t hate Andruw? Or you just hate Chipper more?
but there is just something about Chipper that drives St. Louis fans nuts. It’s the clean cut thing I think. Deep down we probably think he should be a Cardinal — OMG did I say that?
Clean cut? I guess appearance wise. He did cheat on his wife (now ex-wife) with a Hooters waitress.
But at least he stepped up and is doing the right thing for the kid.
I had no idea!
I was talking about looks. Maybe that’s it. He looks so cleancut and yet …
With a hooters waitress. LOL
Sounds like someone has a crush!
no, not on Chipper or any of the Braves. I have a crush on Rolen
I used to have a crush on Mike Matheny — who caused Chipper’s injury. But I don’t see him enough anymore.
How can you not at least love Andruw?
I don’t love anyone on any other team — except I did love Steve Carleton even after he left the Cardinals. But you weren’t even alive then π
Encarnacion needs to get his friggin act together. And I completely disagree with LaRussa’s theory on putting people like him in the number 2 batting position.
Nope, I only remember Steve Carlton as an aging Philly. Actually, and aged Philly.
But I had some ‘Legends’ baseball cards that had pictures of him as a Cardinal.
I completely disagree with any theory that puts a former Tiger in a non-Tiger lineup. It is a losing theory. Period.
Detroit started out OK until today. Do you follow them despite your love of Atlanta?
Detroit is going to surprise some people this year, I think. They have a solid team, but young.
Yes, I follow Detroit pretty closely due to geographical considerations. I root for them to do well, they remind me a lot of the mid to late 80’s Braves.
sprained ankle:
I hope that’s all it is. It seems weird that he would grab his knee like that if it was just a sprained ankle.
yeah, they’re probably lying to the fans. Atlanta’s like that π
Sounds like a lovely day.
Was the photography exhibit specific to St. Louis or was there some other theme?
I’m debating whether to say anything about the cubs and cards. Nah, too nice a day for baseball debates. And anyway, doesn’t matter what the cubs do now, they’ll fall apart after the 4th of July as is ordained.
We all said the same thing about the cubs this morning.
And they DID win the first two games so you should be happy (as my sister in Chicago is).
Here’s the exhibition. It was good but you photography people would have enjoyed it more than I did.
I think I would probably be much more interested in the Monet exhibit. Have you seen that?
where?
At the museum, the Monet in the 20th Century exhibition is “currently on view in Gallery 214”.
I think I looked at it last month when I went to Art in Bloom. (local flower arrangers at the art museum doing arrangements based on paintings). Cuz there was one in the Monet gallery.
I’m actually not a big Monet fan so I don’t remember much of it. I like Dutch 16th and 17th century.
I love the Impressionists but Monet in particular.
I like the Dutch art of that period (have you read Schama book “Rembrandt’s Eye”). Jim and I went to a wonderful exhibit at the Chicago Art Institute years ago of Dutch art from the Hermitage that had never been seen in this country before. It was spectacular.
I saw that exhibition too! I loved it. Except the way they hung and lit it made it hard to see some of the pieces. Too much glare.
I don’t dislike Monet, it’s just not my favorite.
Steve Goodman’s Dying Cub Fan’s Last Request
Do they still play the blues in Chicago
When baseball season rolls around
Peace
Glad to hear that you had a good day!
Thanks Olivia. And in person I’m introverted until I get to know people.
Although sometimes I think it’s not introversion. I just don’t care about talking to people until I get to know them. And you can’t get to know someone unless you care enough to talk to them. It’s a vicious circle π
I call it social sickness. If I have to spend too much time w/ people doing that social talk stuff I get really sick. I hate it. A lot. I need quiet time to re-energize myself. Social situations suck my energy big time.
You two aren’t alone in that respect. I hate social situations where I don’t know anyone. I’m not good at small talk and I much prefer to sit by myself and let people come to me. At least that way I don’t have to think of anything to say.
I still get sick from it — even family members. At Christmas for instance, when everyone was down I had to go and hide in my bedroom for a few hours every day. I seriously can’t take it.
I need a lot of down time. I just tell people up front that I need to be alone on a regular basis and not to take it personally. Of course some people still do …
There’s nothing wrong with that. Heck I do the same. I just look at it as I need some quite time and go to my room. When I feel I can get back into the hub bub I go back in and talk some more.
My solution is to just not do social stuff. Works really well. I even offer monetary bribes — everybody in my family gets married gets offered a choice of extra money or my attendance at showers. I haven’t gone to a shower in years.
And nobody comes to my house because it’s in the middle of nowhere and doesn’t have any extra bedrooms.
Stick with me and I’ll help you plan all kinds of effective strategies.
I get headaches when I have to spend hours in social situations where I don’t know anyone. But I’m OK with people I know, even if I don’t know them well.
I’ve always thought it would get better with practice. And in the last 10 years I’ve had a lot of practice. But it doesn’t.
… or excellent strategy by a first-rate legal mind?
no it’s a vicious circle. I really have next to no interest in talking to people if I don’t already know a lot about them. It’s weird, but true.
So if I learned to be reticent, you’d stop picking on me? Never mind, don’t answer that — it’s irrelevant.
I think I’d better go open a lounge.
over here.
