May the 4’s be with you
I don’t want to risk another fight by telling you how nice this is, but this is really nice.
We weren’t fighting. We were nicing. There’s a difference.
There is beer here.
Manny bringing that cute little drinking game over here from the last lounge?
Only time will tell.
But…I sense his presence here.
you do?
But of course. Didn’t you know that Manee and I share some kind of weird psychic bond?
(also, I saw that he had rated some comments in here)
I feel a strange disturbance in the farce.
stormkite, where are your manners? Don’t you know it’s the Farce? đ
or read more Tolkien.
psychic powers right now into another dimension and wondering if brown nosing is going to work …
will get you everywhere. So will cheesecake.
brown nosing works with you đ
But some people could care less about it.
Are you talking about me?
if you are on my hot list.
If you mean here, then clearly not. I haven’t done s*** for diaries in like 3 months.
4 months? 5?
Man I’m lazy.
spacing, it makes all the difference. I think I’ll head back out to the patio now and leave you two alone.
Oh no you won’t!
misunderestimate my lurking abilities. Since I’m more prolific than you (with diaries), I’ll take that extra space between her words as a hint that she’s not hinting at word-writing abilities. đ
As I’ve said before, your word writing abilities (to steal a DTF phrase) are nearly unparalleled in the blogosphere at this point, so I have no desire to compete with you on that level because, frankly, I can’t compete đ
I will be forced to rely on my charm until it fails to get me anywhere đ
and unfortunately misunderestimate your own word-writing abilities.
I’m not too kind…mary can attest to that :p
But I appreciate the compliment. And you may just get me to again write something of substance sometime đ
Uhh, yeah!
until the marmot tried to set the patio umbrella on fire. He’s not a big fan of the mango-flavoured tobacco.
some more sinister in mind
Whoever played that turn is clearly an amateur. They scored the lowest score possible!!
How many do you have to drink if you miss the dartboard entirely?
get the funnel, I left it in the last cafe.
after stopping off to pick up my granddaugter and getting fed dinner. Chicken and gravy and potatoes. Yum!
The Mariners won today, I’m home and I get to spend some time on a virtual cruise ship. What’s not to like? (Wait, don’t answer that.)
you’ve arrived at the OPENING of a lounge, not the closing. It’s a sign of … something.
It must be nice to have a major league baseball team instead a AAA team called the Kansas City Royals.
have to have a little cafe bet when the cardinals play the royals in interleague.
As long as you take the Royals..or if I take the Royals the Cardinals must win by at least 10…and Puljos has to hit three home runs and catch a fly ball with his hat.
No, you have to stand by your team. No handicap.
I didn’t think it was much of handicap, KC lost over 100 games last year and once blew a 9 point lead in the bottom of the ninth inning.
I think being a Royals fan is the handicap. At least it sure feels that way sometimes when you’re a Mariners fan screaming after they blow another late lead and going “WHY WHY WHY WHY do I still follow this team???”
Ha! It’s a trap! I don’t remember the rule exactly but if a player uses his hat to catch a ball it’s a three-run error, or something like that.
<gasp>
It’s a 2 base penalty. I remember it well from a Pittsburgh game several years ago.
Details upon request. Otherwise I don’t feel like typing it out.
Don’t sweat it, I can probably find it on the Net someplace. It’s supposed to keep people from doing things like using their gloves to knock down otherwise unreachable fly balls. I dunno, if your aim is that good I think it would make the highlight reel.
that Albert would do anything other than perfectly. He is nothing if not the perfect baseball player.
Perhaps I should take back my offer of a friendly wager and go for a full fledged bet?
What do you think?
OK, I’m trying to remember it myself, so bear with me.
This was several years ago.
It was some kind of game-changing situation, either a tie, or the Pirates were up by one.
There was a man on 2nd (for the opposing team). The pitcher threw a ball that the catcher made a good play to block, but it ended up sitting in the dirt.
The catcher took off his mask in order to more clearly see the ball, but then when he picked it up, he used his mask and his glove to corral the ball. The umpire immediately blew the whistle, and waived the baserunner home, because the catcher had illegally used his mask to control the baseball.
Whatever the situation was, I remember that the Pirates ended up losing the game because of it. That’s probably why it has stuck in my mind. Braves fans remember every Pirates loss.
If that’s the way it went down I think that’s a bad call. Knocking a ball down with your glove on its way over the fence for a home run is one thing, but using a mask to help pick up the ball sounds bogus, unless he was doing something like tossing the mask so it would cage the ball on the way to the backstop after a wild pitch.
But I wasn’t there, so I’m not going to try to Frist this particular call by diagnosing it from a long ways away in space and time.
No, I’m pretty sure that’s the way it went down.
It was a big deal on SportsCenter (obviously). But intent is not part of the rule, and the ump definitely called it correctly according to the rules.
And I guess that’s all we can ask. I mean, we don’t want any activist umpires, right? đ
OK, that made me laugh. đ
I’m sorry if I was mean to you earlier.
That is one of the coolest things anyone has ever posted in response to one of my comments.
Chill.
can I add something to the list of things that’ll pacify me?
You can tell me but I’m not promising anything …
But I have to admit, that I agree with Bill Simmons on this one.
Mets fans getting overexcited about a team that looks great on paper and ends up underachieving
see?
I know, I know. But man, the Braves have looked weak so far. Whatever happens, I don’t think that the wild card will go to the NL east this year.
Tino Martinez’ hair in HDTV . . . LOL
That’s another one we never should have let get away.
Bill is hilarious. Definitely recommended reading for sports fans.
I agree though. Seattle should have held onto both Martinez’s until they were no longer able to swing the pine. They were both dedicated to the art of hitting.
didn’t do too well when he was with us a few years ago. I liked thim though. He went out and played his heart out, he just couldn’t get a hit.
Yeah, I know, and when Tino left we ended up with a couple of years of Paul Sorrento and David Segui. Yuck.
On the other hand if it weren’t for Tino leaving we wouldn’t have eventually ended up with John Olerud, who I really liked. Not only was he a spectacular first baseman, he had a very dry sense of humor that fit very well here in the Northwest (not surprising, since he grew up across Puget Sound from Seattle).
Let’s wait until the end of the month before we declare the Mariners a major league team. Remember, they flirted with 100 losses the last two years. I am hoping we at least break even this year, but then I’m a hopeless romantic.
Can we have Raul Ibanez back??
Frankly I was surprised he came back to Seattle. He was pretty much a scrub when we let him go and he really took off in KC and learned how to hit. He’s apparently one of the nicest guys you ever want to meet, too. Dan Wilson specifically mentioed Raul during his appreciation day ceremony last weekend.
I’ll tell you, I used to hate seeing the Royals come to town. Yeah, they were cellar-dwellers but that didn’t mean they didn’t want to knock off the big guns, and they had the lineup to do it on a good day. At one time there were about five guys in a row with .300 BAs, and they seemed to have it in for the Mariners. Damon, Beltran, Dye, Sweeney, Randa, Quinn . . . I don’t remember all the details, just that we had a pretty nasty slide in July-August 2000 and the Royals and Tigers were the primary contributors.
And now you know why were a handicap..Damon, Dye world series MVP.. Beltran future hall of famer all played at the K.
Tell me about it. I’ve seen the Former Mariner All Star Roster. Griffey, Rodriguez, Varitek, Garcia, Guillen, Johnson . . . it’s pretty depressing.
Yeah..the Royals and Mariners should trade their GM’s straight across.Don’t forget our GM didn’t want pay Mr. Ibanez 1 million more to stay. But paid Juan Gonzalez 4 million to sit on the bench for a year.
I just rated you with your own Robo Rater.
I had something clever to say but I lost it in the middle of reveling in my own cleverness.
That’s OK. I can’t count the times when I thought of something clever to say, and in the process of getting it out I managed to forget what . . . um . . . what was I saying?
It’s hard to know when to move over to the new louge (which is very nice btw đ when you’ve got lingering threads/conversations …
and I was heading down to the beach to watch the sunset
Peace
The words “too much baseball” don’t make sense when you string them all together like that. It’s like saying “too much good health.”
But that is a very pretty sunset. It’s been nice to get home lately before the sun goes down.
Wow.
Where is that?
(oh, and there is never too much baseball)
here in the home of the Rookies…where a team ERA less than 6 is considered a success…they’ve covered a whole section of the seats in Coor’s Field because of dismal attendance…ownership is inept and for some unexplicable reason are at the top of the NL West…too surreal.
It won’t last.
They replaced each seat in Royals stadium from orange to blue..that way can’t tell how many seats are empty on tv.
like a man who can’t get to first.
baseball is no hockey. đ
I like Canadian football does that make me unAmerican?
I mean, really 4 downs? pffft đ
I’m sure your fellow football compatriots would say you are off your rocker.
Plus they play on Friday nights…it is so cool. Calgary v Winnipeg..
I like soccer/futbol. That definitely makes me unAmerican.
grab a bottle of wine and a couple of glasses…:{)
glass of Estancia Pinot Noir at the moment. It’s smooth.
Are you gonna join us on the beach?
fan growing up, and have followed the Dbacks somewhat, but here in Tucson I usually stick to college basketball. Sigh…we had such a craptacular season.
Beach? It’s real?!? I thought I was hallucinating from the hookah.
It’s whatever we want it to be in the cafe right?
know it!
How’s Bud doing?
Awwww… I’ve never seen a dog look like that before! Wait… don’t I have about 300 pics of Pepa and Rolly doing exactly that? Too bad I don’t have any uploaded yet. You got one charming dog, Manny.
he’s a ham but I couldn’t ask for a better compadre.
Bud stole my heart <big sigh, fluttering eyelashes> đ
of the crush and has been practicing his batting-eyelash reciprocation.
Okay, off to the hookah lounge we go!
You know the old German proverb about wine after beer, Manny? It’s not pretty.
beer was of the virtual variety earlier and the wine is the real deal. đ
Can I join you too? I have my own beer! Besides, I’m so woefully sports impaired, I’m beyond all hope and/or redemption.
Thanks Dada, the smell of scorched hot dogs was beginning to get a bit much. đ
What about nachos?
Those are some pretty scary looking nachos, ej. Especially after the episode of Nighty Night I just watched. I think it would have grossed out even DJ!
The more the merrier they say — but this is a no baseball zone. đ
I don’t understand.
đ
Precisely why I qualified myself as impaired! I haven’t had enough beer yet to understand that language either.
I was on a paddle-boat look alike and had a pleasant sunset cruise on the Red River just N of Winnipeg. There were a couple dozen waiting to board. The only ones speaking English were me and my friend. Welcome to the mozaic, as they called the mixing cultures there.
Wonder if they still have that.
What language were the others speaking?
The last cruise I went on was Thousand Islands I think. It’s been a long time.
but German, Dutch, French, Italian, for sure. Most likely Japanese tourists.
There’s a whole lot of variety in cultures in Winnipeg. Probaby the most “European” city anywhere near to me.
I’d say it’s like a miniature San Francisco. Not much experience in travel east of here, so can’t compare those cities.
I’m out everyone. Good night!
a good one amigo.
Nighty Night, ej. Be sure to take 2 aspirin, eat a piece of cheese and drink a big glass of water before bed. Old French remedy that really works. Unless you’ve been eating haggis, in which case, only FM can save your soul.
You have a marvellous garden, you take great photos, you’re a font of knowledge, vous parlez francais, and you’re funny! đ
Well thanks, Olivia. I do a few things well, lol!
that looks like a peaceful way to end a day! Sleep well. And pleasant dreams… I don’t dare make any suggestions…
I guess I’ll dust off my froggybottom manual and open a 24/7 cafe. Be back in a few.
Or we could try for 200 and leave the mess…:{)
and join the mellow crowd over at the 24/7 hookah lounge
