The middle of the night? They tell me the sun is shining! I can’t see it from my windowless cell, but that’s what they tell me.
Unless you live in a place like this:
The sun was shining on the sea,
Shining with all his might:
He did his very best to make
The billows smooth and bright–
And this was odd, because it was
The middle of the night.
Poor Silvio, it was a shock to his system to find out that complete media control does not necessarily make for an easy win. I’m sure he used that phrase the other night.
She didn’t, but I did. But, since I’m getting nothing but insults from you tonight I’ll quitely sit in my corner and refrain from trying to complement you.
You’re in NC, right? Got teenlings, you might be in this linky dink
Counter-Recruitment and Anti-War Benefit Concert
Thursday, April 13th 2006 5 pm
Raleigh, NC USA
Organized by high school students, this event seeks to raise awareness about issues regrading military recruitment and the war to students in the Raleigh area. Performances by local bands, spoken word artists, and speakers (Stan Goff, Dustin Langley, Elena Everett, and Yoland Carrington). Please come to support the cause and express your opposition to military policy. Get active!
Don’t blame me just because you want to go to bed before the Mariners games start.
I’ve always felt a little sorry for stockbrokers who have to be up and moving at 4 AM to keep tabs on their counterparts in New York — until I realize how much money they make by doing so, anyway.
Well I probably won’t see you again before you conk out, so have a nice night.
However this is another party hearty hardy fine line caveat. “Wow, I’m really feeling freaky horny…. hey… did you ever notice that lamp casts a shawdow on the wall that looks like Danny DeVito? Whoah! I need to get out my paints! I just had a really really really great, no FOR REAL, a really great idea for a watercolor…
usually I end up in the kitchen trying to figure out what the hell I had been talking about just before – and tyring to find some pepperidge farm fishies or slices of pepperoni.
Watching KO and absolutely cringing from the 9/11 tapes. Deeply deeply concerned for what those people went through, but cringing from the notion that somehow it all accrues to the heroism of the boosh adminstration.
Worst worst case scenario. They were in on it. Worst case scenario. They looked the other way and let it happen. Best case scenario. It was the centerpiece for their marketing strategy.
It is a question of comfort level. Most mainstream Americans, I think, feel better with the official explanation of “evildoers who hate freedom,” and respecting Washington’s wishes not to look too closely into the events themselves, but confine questions to those involving which new agencies should be created and which existing ones should receive additional funding, and keep criticisms to the “they should have known” type, and especially avoid opening doors that could make one vulnerable to charges of not supporting the war on terror. Or attempting to weaken anyone’s Resolve to Prevail over the Enemy that Lurks.
who are deeply in love, and have great faith in their beloved, and learn that they are being deceived. Think of how many will try to deny it, even though the evidence is plain.
Think of people you may know who were harmed as children by a family member, while other family members refused to believe such a thing.
Those people are not stupid either. There are some truths that are so difficult, so devastating to face, that some people are simply not able to do it, regardless of the price they, or people they love pay, for their inability to face it.
Cheap fun and the easy way out ,and not that much different than being just plain stupid. The real question IMHO is what do these people who are so “in love” with lies really have at stake?
With some people, love may be tied up with self-worth, self esteem.
In the case of someone in denial about a family member, it is the family that is at stake. But in their mind, the denial preserves the family they think exists.
It is easy for you or I to say, well, the way to preserve the family is to face the truth and deal with it, the family the way it does exist. But obviously it’s not easy for them, or they would not sacrifice their own children!
Hey there, all — hello! Wonderful to see you, as always.
I hope Springtime’s treating you all very well. Me, I can’t complain — the weather’s been stunning: high 60s, sunny — & the natural world is truly coming alive. It’s a beautiful time of year.
For this reason among others I haven’t been around much, but I’m sure I’ve missed entire cafe’ worlds being born, growing to maturity & passing away. It seems it’s been aeons since I last checked in.
I’m sure no one noticed, however. All the better!
😉
I do want to let y’all know that I’m likely to lose phone service shortly, ergo you’ll see me even less. C’est la vie boheme, dont’cha know.
I’m also involved in extracting my bony ass from the ol’ collander. Hey! Ho! Let’s go! It’s now or never, my friends.
You know, you’re not the only one experiencing deeply needed change right now. A number of folks I know are experiencing similar adjustments, generally very positive.
Thank you, this is good encouragement! Despite all the wierdness, I do believe that I can move forward to a better, more healthier, and more positive situation.
Thanks for asking, maryb. Ah yes, the collander — aka the aged icebox. After four long winters here, I’ve had enough; the landlord has been informed. It’s a basic matter of self-interest, really, as well as self-respect. My allies in the community here all feel it’s basically criminal for my landlord to ask any rent whatsoever for these slender accommodations — & I do mean slender. Of course, I agree. It’s not as if he’s living hand-to-mouth & needs the money, either (unlike some of us). He & his wife own not one, not two, but three homes between them.
Ergo, as soon as I can formulate a dwelling on my own land we’re outta here. The cats should be pleased as well — there’s no shortage of mice in the woods, regardless of locale.
A phone of my own in future? Don’t know yet, but there’s always the local library, which is always deserving of our patronage.
Thanks. You know I’ll be there — especially if most of my books go to the Literacy folks, as is planned. This seems the best use for them, plus they can sell the rare/antique books online to finance their work!
Indeed, I’ll be sure to let you know where I’m situated snail-wise, if at all possible. No wires there, either — it’s too remote.
(Note to NSA: good luck buggin’ the creek, ya bums!)
Thank you, NDD! I appreciate your good wishes very, very much.
Hopefully I’ll eventually have plenty of photos, too. The place I’m going to is truly a lovely spot — not far from here, but very different. It’s quite lush & relatively untouched, at least for now. I aim to make as little impact as possible.
I’ll be sure to be in touch with you if I need building advice. I think you can bet on that!
I’ve only built one house but Jim and I are a veritable fount of wisdom on things not to do so any time you want to know if something is a good idea or not, you can ask us.
Wow, I missed a whole cafe and now it’s time for Lost.
Family Man, I couldn’t comment at your site. You have to register with bellsouth and when I tried to do that it kept giving me a technical problems message.
Hi Folks!!! Hope everyone had a great day!!! Mine has been busy as usual. working some on the new web page and getting ready for more political meetings this week. LOL
I’ve gotta play rummy tiles with Danni, fill out some school forms for Wes and then get dinner going so we eat during the 2nd intermission — all so that I can flake out and watch a great game.
Wish you were here. No, not there. Here. Right HERE. Flaked out beside me. 🙂 See you tomorrow
For tonight, I bequeath all my tequila to Dada and WW!
Landed on the east coast; had dinner — now it’s time for a martini!
Big plans for your first night east?
Just watching cousins chase each other around my SIL’s house and trying to get them into bed eventually. Hence the wistful longing for a martini.
You know, I don’t understand why they don’t make duct tape sheets for such an issue. 🙂
Cousins running around… Hmm sounds like someone needs to break out a set of LAWN DARTS!! (yes, we owned a set while growing up)
Glad you landed safely, GrowthRate!
Hi growthrate. Why not have an even dozen.
Hi! And thanks — I may need them soon…
I never got a drink, but then I’m just starting to find something for dinner (supper for southerners).
awwwww
you’re so nice.
I’ve been avoiding m&m’s since that unfortunate night a few weeks ago.
But if you insist …
Oh sure you get beer and M&M’s and I get yelled at for not opening a cafe in the middle of the night.
There is no justice!
Maybe if you opened cafes in the middle of the night you’d get beer and m&m’s. Ever think of that? HUH?
I will not argue with someone who has a mouthfull of M&M’s and spitting beer out.
No good comeback huh?
You noticed that too. 😉
The middle of the night? They tell me the sun is shining! I can’t see it from my windowless cell, but that’s what they tell me.
Unless you live in a place like this:
I don’t want to forget il secondo.
Molto grazie!
Il vostro Itialian è quasi buono quanto mine.
Vaffanculo
Such language from a lady of refinement. I’m shocked.
Well, I learned it from Justice Scalia.
I’m not.
me either.
(she called me nice earlier. I’m hoping to get that retracted)
reverse psychology?
You ARE so nice.
awwww
what a sweet bunny!
Hey at least she didn’t call you Vaffanculo.
but can’t we just have beer and pizza?? Where is my NASCAR guide?
have the right idea.
Pizza and Beer should be in the food pyrmaid.
Are we channeling Berlusconi or Scalia tonight? ; )
Poor Silvio, it was a shock to his system to find out that complete media control does not necessarily make for an easy win. I’m sure he used that phrase the other night.
But my role model is my pal Antonin.
Whoever it is, I’m sitting quitely in my corner and won’t fake another word of Italian.
I can live with that.
Ím a.m. under glad.
Didn’t say a word about spanish.
there’s always yiddish
quite a few words in yiddish. But I’ve forgotten most of them. I still know when I’m being insulted as a gentile girl though.
gentile girl
shiksa
right, I knew that (but I never saw it spelled before).
hey! are you insulting me?
She’s saying you’re a shiksa goddess.
Grace Kelly was the quintessential “Shiksa Goddess.”
If I just read my Yiddish dictionary right.
She said NOTHING about goddess.
Meshugeneh
She didn’t, but I did. But, since I’m getting nothing but insults from you tonight I’ll quitely sit in my corner and refrain from trying to complement you.
I’m sorry Family Man if I hurt your feelings. Please forgive me.
You didn’t hurt my feelings, chin quivering.
:*
Well at least I got a little sympathy. 😉
At least you haven’t been delegated to the basement.
promoted, more like 😉
You got me there. Babel Fish doesn’t have that for translating.
Google translates into a lot of languages.
Thanks Jim. Got it bookmarked.
Oops sorry, Google doesn’t translate into Yiddish either.
I think what we need is Babble-gefiltefish.
No problem. I’ll trust Andi for my Yiddish translations.
A new cafe. Do I know when to leave to cook dinner or not? 🙂
Yes, you are more of a slacker than me.
I figured when I left last night with the cafe at 60 comments that you would open a new late night cafe before you left. But nooooo.
I was so shocked that you were going to sleep it completely passed my mind, I think.
At least that what I’m sticking with.
martinis. perfect timing!

Just wondering if you ever went to hear the North Carolina Symphony or if you know anything about it?
Only 51 minutes until I can go home!
The Mariners are apparently ahead — they need a couple of victories after losing 4 in a row.
Hell Omir it’s only two more hours until my bedtime.
You west coasters sure keep wierd hours.
5-3 in the top of the 4th
The optimist in me thinks this is a good thing.
The pessimist in me thinks they’ve got five innings to punt it.
and leave the bottle out…maybe SallyCat’s lurking.
I haven’t had a single malt in years. I’ve forgotten what one taste like.
I’m looking real hard for the subliminal sex in the photo.
Dada, I shared the beer bong and filter with my San Jose friends. 🙂
LOL (no kids, I will not explain why I’m laughing)
However with all that beer bonging and malt liquor… sex might have to come WAYYYY later.
There’s a very fine line between, “Hey I’m super horny!” to “zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz” when such things are involved. 🙂
You have obviously, been hanging out with amateurs and low landers…
As they say, living at altitude has it benny’s…stamina is much enhanced.
Sex Goddess and Lightweight don’t always mix.
However this is another party hearty hardy fine line caveat. “Wow, I’m really feeling freaky horny…. hey… did you ever notice that lamp casts a shawdow on the wall that looks like Danny DeVito? usually I end up in the kitchen trying to figure out what the hell I had been talking about just before – and tyring to find some pepperidge farm fishies or slices of pepperoni.
With glass of chardonnay in hand and watching KO tear Boosh a new one.
Two excellent wonderful things, to be sure.
Can’t be beat, unless you count absence of family and favorite cat!
Yes but soon and think how great it will be.
Watching KO and absolutely cringing from the 9/11 tapes. Deeply deeply concerned for what those people went through, but cringing from the notion that somehow it all accrues to the heroism of the boosh adminstration.

Cheers to one & all on a lovely evening!
Cheers back to you, WW! Nice to see you.
Thank you, mythmother! Same here.
How’s your transition going?
You know, you’re not the only one experiencing deeply needed change right now. A number of folks I know are experiencing similar adjustments, generally very positive.
Thank you, this is good encouragement! Despite all the wierdness, I do believe that I can move forward to a better, more healthier, and more positive situation.
Absolutely! It starts with a beginning — & each beginning is also an ending (most thankfully for us!).
Zactly! Lounge already closed by the time I got back here.
More details on leaving the collander and when you expect to be somewhere with phone service.
puleeze.
Thanks for asking, maryb. Ah yes, the collander — aka the aged icebox. After four long winters here, I’ve had enough; the landlord has been informed. I’m glad to know you have a plan. Yes, you need to get out of there. I wish you well in all your plans especially your plans to visit the library.
Thanks. You know I’ll be there — especially if most of my books go to the Literacy folks, as is planned. This seems the best use for them, plus they can sell the rare/antique books online to finance their work!
I’m glad you always come back and are out having some fresh air.
I sure am., DJ! Nice to know the lungs can still function that way ..
You’ll be back 🙂 You’ll find a place that is so much happier for you and the pooties and pooch.
One thing that won’t change is that you will always have a home full of friends riiiiiiiiiiiight here.
But do get to a library and let us know your next snail mail so we can keep tabs on you the non-NSA way 🙂
Thanks for that, DJ. What a blessing!
Indeed, I’ll be sure to let you know where I’m situated snail-wise, if at all possible. No wires there, either — it’s too remote.
(Note to NSA: good luck buggin’ the creek, ya bums!)
Take care WW.
Thanks, FM. You’re always the gentleman (despite the rumors).
Hope you do the same.
and hope you can hurry on back. But have some green thoughts from me to take with you.
Andi, that’s what I call a luscious photograph!
Makes me a happy wench, indeed. Thank you!
I’m sure I’ll miss you, too. Ergo will be back as soon as possible!
Thank you for the green.
Hope the coming changes are positive…gonna miss yer bony ass around here!
Be well, keep in touch…hate to lose track of friends.
Peace
You’re very kind, dada. Thank you for your good wishes.
I’m about to spend so much time outdoors that by the time I get back my ass will no longer be bony. It’ll be muscular & beautifully shaped.
😉
I was wondering what was happening, so good to see you’re doing OK. Hopefully it will be a nice time of the year to start up in a new location.
Looking forward to some photos of the new location. I wish you well.
Thank you, NDD! I appreciate your good wishes very, very much.

Glad I caught you, too.
It’s a great thing to know you’re out there.
Thanks again.

Excellent! Thanks, Andi.
Been an Architect for many years…
Know a fair bit about alternative energy strategies from Passive Solar to PV’s.
Drop a line in a cafe and I’ll catch it,, or someone will bring it to my attention.
The magic’s in the journey, not the destination.
Peace
Thank you very, very much for your offer, dada!
Between you, NDD & Andi, I feel positively wealthy.
Thanks again!
I hope I haven’t missed you — Take care of you and of course you’ve been missed and will be missed! {{{{{ww}}}}}
Hugs back atcha, o purveyor of loveliness & good feeling. Thanks so much for all you’ve shared!

Family Man, I couldn’t comment at your site. You have to register with bellsouth and when I tried to do that it kept giving me a technical problems message.
Hell, I come back for the first commercial break and there are something like 30 new comments.
But that could have been in the first 5 minutes LOL
Commercial break is over. Now I’ll be another 30 behind. See you in a few.
Hi Folks!!! Hope everyone had a great day!!! Mine has been busy as usual. working some on the new web page and getting ready for more political meetings this week. LOL
