Keeping an idea alive for another day. We’ve got 44 confirmed people to deliver a flower. So far. Just imagine you are at work. Whatever you do, and then, about every 45 minutes, a stranger walks up to your desk and says, “Here’s my flower. It’s for your boss. I want him to help stop the war. Thanks.” Every 45 minutes. For four days. Some hours pictures of flowers come in by the fax machine. And sometimes you find pictures of the flowers in the mail you open. Or a delivery person shows up with a flower, and a message along the same lines. Every 45 minutes.
Would you get the message? Would your boss figure you there is something up?
That’s what 44 people can do. And I strongly suspect that participation will be much higher, as every human being I talk to tells me, “Oh yeah, I’m doing that, but I haven’t e-mailed you yet.”
Not too shabby. And we’ve still got 5 days or so to organize. So it is going to grow more.
What is it. For those who haven’t read about this yet. It’s a creative, easy way to send a message to a pro-war Congressman. It is part of a larger campaign. But you can do it from anywhere, and it really doesn’t take much time.
You deliver a flower to U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers (R-MI-08) Lansing office. You can do it in person. Or you can call and order one flower ($1) to be delivered. Or, you can draw a flower on paper and fax it. Or mail it. Simple. I’ve got all the contact information. Just send me an e-mail, if you want to know more.
We’ve got three confirmed sign-ups from the Booman Tribune. Janet Damnit, James Benjamin and tampopo. And lots more who’ve at least been reading along. So get on board. Pledge to send a flower. Send me an e-mail. Can you imagine if we double our number to 88. That would be a flower every 22 minutes or so. Mind boggling. It would be a long week in that office.
I want to write more about some non-violence issues, but I think I’ll save it for a diary to follow. E-mail me for the details. Or go back and read the previous ops center diaries.
What we really need at this moment, from the blogosphere, is a group of about 40 people (more would be nice) who would agree to go to the Big Orange at 12:00 noon EST/ 9:00am PST and recommend a diary about this protest on the day it starts (Tuesday, April 18). Because if a 100 people from Kos do this on Tuesday, and it snowballs a little, Mike Rogers office might turn into a big message center. And that would be a good thing. So if you want to volunteer to write a Kos diary, or at least to go recommend and comment on it at the appointed time, by all means, let’s start a list.
Anyone who cross-posts at the other various, cool left wing sites. Your efforts would help out much. If you have time to cross-post this initiative when the time comes.
Or you can hang back. Read. Or not read. Watch the country trot off to the next war. Cool. We’re going nuclear man. Pass the popcorn. I’ve got to see this. Can you change it over to Fox. They’ve got better war coverage, dude.

Hey Joe, sign me up to send a flower. I haven’t decided which way to do it yet, but it’ll probably be by fax. Should we do that now or save it for the roll-out day?
Also, If you promise to remind us again when the time arrives, I will violate my oath never to return to the orange place and sign on long enough to rec a diary and post a positive comment.
Thanks for all that you do in the name of peace.
All right blueneck. I’ll sign you up. If you e-mail me, I’ll put you on the mailing list. And by Tuesday, the first day of the protest, I’ll get a diary up here to announce the start time.
Keep your powder dry until then. Then you can pick your time to send your flower.
I’ll put you on a list for the Big Orange. I’ve sworn off it some too. But it is still useful. I think.
Thanks.
Calling All Flower Children
I recommended it and added a positive comment.
Thanks blueneck. I’d have never seen that without you telling me here. I’ll try to organize an effort to get a diary up at Kos with enough support to push it to the recommended list on Tuesday, April 18. That would definitely take a step toward making this protest a large success. Though I’m sure the idea itself, at Kos, will spark controversy. Still, controversy is not bad. So long as many people still participate.
ANYTHING will create controversy over there. Not to worry, just keep doing the right thing…
Will do. You too.
Put me on the list, BJ. I’ll do it one method or another.
Great. If you e-mail me, I throw you on the update list so we can stay organized. Thanks.
Yeah, put me on the list too–I’ll send a flower or fax a flower, and recd the diary on Apr. 18.
Gotcha. Thanks. If you want, you can e-mail me and I’ll put you on the update list. Your call.
