Great song…and these country girls rock in every way.
I am getting symbolic here, but Easter=resurrection=new beginning of a lot of things, that will (hopefully) be better than all of the stuff in the past. That is, for each person, the country and the world as well.
And, Steven, I hope the Sad Sack Saturday is through. But, hey, all of this stuff in the world gets to everyone at times.
Shows we care and that we’re human.
And I hope everyone has a wonderful day.
Happy Easter and A good Passover to all members who embrace the season.
What’s not to embrace? It’s Spring!
Whatever religious observance, if any, you wish to wrap that in, it is a time when people of all faiths can find solidarity in sneezing and consumption of excessive sugar and everything else that is bad for you but tastes so good!
Not to mention the flowers. Or in the case of Colorado, the snow. 😀
Happy Basant to all!
Just finished my (urrgh) taxes — owing $3600 to the Feds and $1200 to the state, mainly due to a major fuck-up in distribution of my mom’s IRAs. Thank FSM for Turbo Tax; would’ve taken me all day and two quarts of tequila to do the damn things by hand, and it’ll make future years easier. Hopefully the Infernal Revenue Service will note that this was a one year glitch, and thus won’t stick us with estimated taxes. And I’ve learned some valuable lessons for the future, when the spouse and I deal with his parents’ trust(s).
I’d probably feel better about the whole process if (a) I wasn’t suffering from the creeping crud (got to get more rest — I refuse to miss the Sharks regular season finale!) and (b) I didn’t feel like 90% of my tax money isn’t wasted on a daily basis…
Tomorrow CodePink is supporting members of Physicians for Social Responsibility, Oregon Chapter, as they “stop payment” on a big “check” for $145.4 million- the amount Oregon taxpayers will spend on dangerous nuclear weapons programs in 2006.
As Americans file their annual tax returns, members of PSR’s Oregon chapter will remind policymakers that voters will hold them accountable for their FY 2006 spending decisions.
Specifically, the public health advocacy group will demand that Congress cut spending for nuclear weapons programs. U.S. defense spending has exceeded Cold War levels. We are now spending more than $1 billion a day on our military and our “war on terror” worldwide, at the expense of important domestic programs.
And we just had a work part to make shopping carts full or all that war crap we’ve bought instead of health care, education and clean air.
We’re getting ready to demand our money back. Me and another lady will be going in to a Senator’s office and asking for our states money to be returned. Of course, it’s a federal building so anything could go wrong since we’re “horrible dissenters”
I’ve been doing alot of contemplating lately… part of me is super pissed off at the willfully ignorant and the American Apathetic. Another part of me feels somewhat… and this sounds odd — but at peace.
for all your dedication and hard work.
I have my kids (all of them) here for Easter dinner and figure that I can spent some time not thinking about the issues of the world and enjoy their laughter and joy as we spent time together.
Happy Easter and Passover to all and I hope that you can enjoy this day with your family and friends as well.
is out planting raspberries, strawberries, and shallots. I’m also watering the lawn, mowing, pulling weeds and setting up the hammock so I can reread Culture of Contentment. (And maybe a little John Donne and LeGuin.)
Then I’ll ponder becomming vegetarian, including how much extra work it would make for me to do so, when I am the family cook for meat eaters.
I may even get my bike fixed up and head off in the “all by myselfness” leaving spouse and kid together for the afternoon.
Ah, the possibilities.
Happy Eostre! I have abandoned my plan of a ritualistic romp in a freshly tilled field with someone I lust after, for an Easter dinner with my parents and some highly competitive egg hunting with my 16 yr old son.
Hope everyone has a wonderful celebration!
Today is the day we lost her…
Our CodePink buddy, Katie, is leaving for Jordan…
