Hi everyone, as I am writing this there are no comments but I bet by the time I post there will be 4…
How is everyone, I have been busy watching tv/movies and frolicking outside as much as possible so I haven’t been on site too much.
Scotty, Rove news was something, but I wanted more.
Rumsfeld gone for one thing.
How’s the garden fairing?
Garden is doing pretty good but some plants are getting aphids and apparently root rot from all the rain. My seed gathering and planting is producing quite a few new plants, in early stages and I have lobelia about to bloom out all over a strawberry pot, which I will photo when it get some more blossoms..
How are you
Do you have any ladybugs around? They eat aphids, so you could try placing any stray ones on your affected plants. Maybe IVG has some advice… I’d love to see the lobelia.
Haven’t seen a ladybug yet this year, I have bought and dispensed them in previous years, but now I am using a soapy water spray on aphids…anyone have a herbal/natural remedy.
I use an insecticidal soap from a local greenhouse, not sure of the brand, but they’re very into organic and non-cIt works, but usually requires multiple applications.
I get a concentrate from them and mix it with water and use a spray bottle.
Also, should be applied in the evenings or when plant is in full shade…just following instructions…:{)
Peace

It appears the Gremlins from last night are still about.
and not at IS … π
I mat have just discovered the problem…battery just went legs up…O’s all ’round after only about an hour’s draw time.
Damn…how long are these things supposed to last and what’s a new one cost…SHIT!…pardon my french.
Heeeey dada. What going on?
a wind event monday night took out the top 2/3’s of a 35′-40′ elm and laid it in the alley one house north of me…they’re just now getting around to clearing it. Alley’s been blocked and some of the neighbors were starting to get more than a bit pissed…so I guess, all is well…:{)
Thank goodness a tree didn’t hit near or on your house. Should be over soon though if it’s just one tree.
I know this is just me being paranoid and superstitious but please be careful, dada, a friend of mine lost her dad to a felled-tree accident just last year after all those damn hurricanes.
I’ve worked in and around construction and this sort of thing many, many years and am always very aware of what’s going on around me…above and below.
It’s the stuff you don’t see that gets you…knock on wood…:{)
Sorry — couldn’t resist. π
just a bit crazier then than now. Hell, I lived through it…no harm no foul…:{)
I’ve heard that works too — but I’ve always used soapy water as well. Make sure to get underneath the leaves, the stem — all over, not just the top. It might take a few cycles too.
Hi Diane. How’re ya doing?
Hi FM, how are you, I’ve dipped into the cafe often enough to see you have your problems, like plumbing, and a/c….I have problems with the heat too, and need to install one of our window a/c’s soon into this place, but think it will require a hole cut into side of room because of window shapes.
Can you stop over and help me, lol…like I would be doing it????
You would probably have as much success as me doing home repair. Oh to know how to do things like that.
But, then again I only care when it’s not there.
I hope you have the least trouble possible getting your stuff done.
The image of you frolicking outside is making me happy.
Hi SN how are you doing, I miss you when I don’t come to the cafe, sigh, did you forget about vb…just kidding, but come whenever you feel like it.
I gather the heat is getting to you down south now too.
Yeah, somebody over at MSNBC described today’s actions as “rearranging the deck chairs.” Presumably he would have continued “on the Titanic.”
Even so, we’re starting to see little victories where before there were none. I’m OK with that — for now.
It’s been a couple of weeks since we had any ice cream. Way too long.
Ice cream is good 24/7.
Had black sesame sorbet for dessert after lunch today. Different, but way yum!
In our family ice cream is prescribed as necessary for whatever ails ya. It might not cure your sore throat, flu, measles, depression or ADHD. It might have no effect at all on the disease, real or imaginary. But it will make you feel better, and isn’t that what’s important?
Did somebody say ice cream?
Awwww, that is so cute! Look at your little lacy legs!
You know I post these for you, right?
Be still my little closeted heart. π
Ah, a place I remember fondly from my youth. The only thing that throws me is the pizza boxes. Farrell’s was a full-scale restaurant in addition to a reconstructed Gibson Girl ice cream parlor.
Yes it is! Farrell’s was like Heaven to me as a kid, too. This was my best childhood birthday, very good memories. In the pictures taken shortly after this one, I am gleefully ripping open those presents and half of my face is coated in the various desserts.
I was about 16 when they opened up a Farrell’s in the local mall. We would go there for drama club parties and the like. I remember taking a date there one time and discovering French dip sandwiches.
I was surprised to find out that they had scaled back their operations — as far as I can tell there is only one left, in their original home town of Portland. (Damnit Janet might be able to confirm its existence if she ever pauses from her Codepink activities.)
Sounds like you were a good date. Nobody ever took me on a date to Farrell’s, but if they had, they’d have discovered a lot more than sandwiches. ;p
It’s sad to learn that they’re basically a thing of the past now. I can’t imagine that they wouldn’t still do a brisk business, given the money to be made in schmaltzy sugar-trafficking.
Well, I like to think so. I liked the girl I took to Farrell’s but we were never more than friends (story of my young life for many years) and I haven’t heard from her in over 30 years.
Come to think of it, when I asked her out I can’t recall that I ever considered going anywhere but Farrell’s.
I agree that I can’t understand why Farrell’s isn’t around doing a land office business. A bit of research indicates that the Farrell’s trademark was sold to the Marriott corporation, who mucked around with the concept and eventually let the idea languish. Another company bought the rights to the Farrell’s name and processes and opened two restaurants; they are currently in litigation with another company over something or another. (All this comes from a site called happyitis.biz)
I’ll bet none of the girls could resist you.
I wish.
Well, that’s just a lack of education. I’ll be by real soon to smarten them all up.
Looks like a party to remember and so cute.
Look at the shoes! π
My mom thought I was a doll until I was about 6. In the name of honesty, I must tell you that I never would have dressed myself like that. Whenever they let me dress myself, people always complimented my parents on what a fine-looking son they had.
is still griping 50 years later (this woman knows from grudges) about how hard it was to get me in a dress. Good thing I’m not at home any longer because I’m even worse now.
The funny thing (to me) about it is that my relationship with gender has not changed so much over the years, but my understanding of it has. While I don’t remember this, I’m certain my mother fought me hard to get me into that outfit, and I do clearly remember flat-out rejecting anything pink or frilly from shortly after that age through to well into my teen years.
But in retrospect, what I think I was really rejecting was the mandatory aspect of it, and the symbolic ideas of what I was coming to understand was represented by outward signs of femininity. Of course I couldn’t have articulated this well, if at all, at the time, but looking back on it, it’s pretty clear that I was rejecting being submissive and decorative and objectified, etc.
And now that I’m in control of my gender expression, I play the whole range of it. I don’t feel particularly identified with either a masculine or a feminine gender. It all feels like drag to me, and my closet represents that with everything from very butch men’s clothing and steel-toed boots to tight, tiny cocktail dresses and spiked heels.
I just hate dresses, hose, heels — anything that equates to dressing up. But I’m pretty gender fluid myself — I’d hate wearing suits and ties just as much. π
We have that part more in common than less. My daily wear is sweatpants/shorts and t-shirts.
I think I’ve got a few of those ‘precious’ moments outfits too.
Just dropping by to have some ice cream…then it’s back to work.
I’ll be travelling at the end of next week and need to prepare a presenation. So…busy, busy, busy!
LOL SallyCat. I love your pictures.
“Waiter, I’ll have a catnip sundae and two straws.”
Hey Sally, I found a T-shirt for you at the science fiction convention I went to this weekend. It reads, “If you don’t talk to your cat about catnip, who will?” and it shows a cat rolled over on its back out of its gourd on kitty loco.
I’ll google catnip and t-shirt’s later!
It’ll be good fun to wear to the next cops / prosecutors bbq!
Here, I did it for you
These people also had a ninja pirate T-shirt I bought — Yin and Yarrrrr! Across the back it reads, “Embrace the Tao or walk the plank!”
LOL Omir, that’s cool.
Gunsmoke was the Deputy Marshall. He had one completely stiff leg, that he used swing kinda funny like when he was running after Marshall Matt Dillon.
So if an otherwise normal man is unable to bend a leg on one side or the other… ahh… there must be some explanation… ah for such a condition…
Hence, the reference to Chester on Gunsmoke.
If that ain’t clear enough, just ask FM for further clarification…
And um, ya I get it! π
Although I’d love to hear FM’s explanation… oh FM!?
My explanation? Of why Chester had his limp?
Mum, taken 2006-04-07, (large view)
But this one is new, taken last night in a hurry as the sun was setting. I was just so excited to see pink! in the garden. I’m going to try and get some better shots tonight.
Hyacinth, taken 2006-04-08
When I grow up I want to take pictures just like you, I love the mum one….esp.
much better than the many-legged creature you posted last night π
I’ve got spider sitting on my window here at work (about the size of quarter). As long as it stays out there and doesn’t drop from the ceiling I’ll be okay… π
able to do it, the second the spider was missing from its web I would be outta there faster than the hair of a viagra user.
I’ll have to bring my camera to work tomorrow — I’m sure you’d especially love to see it! ;P
Beautiful.
wonnerful, wonnerful, wonnerful
Now I feel so much better, since all feels right with my world.
j/k … I’ve heard of him. π
Oh no Olivia. You’re making me feel old.
Lawrence Welk, Myron Floren, the Lennon Sisters…..
Oh where did my youth go? π
since reruns are on all time. You just need really awful taste in music. π
I’ll have you know, I used to watch that show every Saturday night when I was a kid.
Having had only one snowy channel to watch, you watch what’s on. Plus I had the hots for the youngest Lennon sister.
You can get your very own doll … here. And here’s some pix for ya: here. π I had to google the Lennon Sisters and Myron Floren
Ya it was Janet. After the Welk show, I shortly started listening to Dave Mason, Spooky Tooth and Hendrix.
The hippie day had begun. π
Slept in again today — gave spouse a marathon session of email reading/editing.
Grocery shopping and laundry today mainly…ah, the joys of domesticity. Maybe we can get enough done that we can go out and play this weekend…want to catch the last of the 1906 Quake commemorations.
Have a great day, everyone…
More out-of-focus pinkness
Rhododendron before
Rhododendron after
Olivia you better start watching out. SN is on the scene.
Whoa, that’s too much pressure for me. Plus, I can’t get my camera to focus properly and it’s driving me nuts.
2/3 of the photos I took this weekend, were blurred due to being too close, out of the proper focal length, I guess, seems like I have a tendency to just want to fill the whole screen with the subject.
Next plan is to back off an inch or two, take the macro, and then crop and magnify to the size I want.
I love it FM — I love everyone’s photos. Where’s yours?
No new flowers here and I’ve got to buy new batteries. Darn.
You really are getting very good at that. Those are gorgeous. I’ve tried to do it and failed miserably.
Amazing how all those petals and inner bits fit inside the bud. Lovely SN!
That’s beautiful, SN, now I want to add those to my plant collection, wonder if they grow here well.
Out of a four foot square area — just by picking the big leaves — I got 3 lbs of cooked spinach. A three foot square area yielded the same in collards.
And click here for a photo album about a family of geese I saw today. The goslings are so adorable.
Congratulations! Was it tasty?
Those geese are adorable!
That was great. The Geese. I love how you explain each picutre.
Sounds like your 4 foot square area is really producing.
Looks like you had a really nice time doing geese watching.
Now about sharing that spinach …
Ooh, my kids and I love spinach! I wish I could grow something besides clay and rocks here.
You can, pine trees.
I forgot – I’m awesome at that.
Water droplets are cool.
Water droplets on Hosta leaf
You sure Olivia isn’t sending you pictures SN?
I’m pretty sure. I was just sitting on my ass out in the dirt taking these. Now I’m all itchy. Hmmm.
He’ll never let it go… π
Olivia I’m shocked. As if I beat a subject into the ground.
Was it at least a little muddy SN?
I’d love to get down in the mud with you and Olivia, but we’ve had next to no rain in months. Sorry.
I was thinking that if Olivia took that picture of the water droplets you’d see microscopic amoebas wearing tophats and carrying canes tapdancing in the drops.
n/t
OK, OK, OK I wont’ mention mud again. But I’m worried about poor SN.
So you said you were in the dirt, you’re itchy and you had a camera…..
Believe me, that is a picture you do not want to see.
my meaning. I was being your backup. If you did drop the dirt, I would take it up.
OK ya’ll are ganging up on me again.
You’ll bring it up? B/c you’ve got his back and not mine. Huh.
OK this could get good. Yeh ya’ll don’t have Olivia’s back. For shame. Go get them Olivia. ;)P
with his back or yours and everything to do with how much fun it is to think olivia the mud wrestler.
We need a link to a larger version.
(nit to pick — I don’t like the datestamp in the picture. It’s distracting.)
You can pick nits all you want. Somehow in fussing with the settings I set the date stamp. I’ll have to figure out how to remove it. And link to a larger version. You could tell me but I need to be shown things. I’ll ask Nature Boy.
I would love to get the full size version, put it into paint shop and isolate the water drop showing everything.
… the second-from-the-bottom drop so we can see it closer! It looks like a new world forming… π
That’s what I was thinking. Since it’s reduced down in size for the cafe I can’t do it. Already tried.
It’s getting a bit crowded, so I opened the pub.
