Having a cafe close on me when I’m in mid-post…sort of like talking to the spouse only to find out he left for errands half an hour previous… lol
Here’s what I posted (was in reply to a BooMan post):
Almost sorry we’re wireless — spouse was perched in bed with computer till 1:30am…then again, I was cleaning the freakin’ bathroom at freakin’ 1am (at least I was accomplishing something).
Think I’m too keyed up to sleep — Sharks Game 2 is at 10am Pacific, and they’ve got to win this one to avoid coming home 0-2.
Had a light breakfast (cereal, banana, milk); making brunch about 11am (1st intermission) of quiche (picked up a couple of frozen broccoli/cheese quiches at Trader Joe’s — looking forward to trying them out), and will probably make a Caesar salad to go along. Wish I had some champagne to make mimosas…wonder if I can coax spouse out of bed in the next hour to make a booze run…
After the game, planning to tote cardboard out to the recycling center, and also to stop and pick up some flowers and head for the cemetary; today would’ve been my mom’s 79th birthday and my parents’ 59th anniversary, so want to go pay respects… sigh still having trouble adjusting to the no-parent thing…
and noon Central (they’re still in Nashville), hence 10am Pacific. A little nervous — Sharks record in day games has not been great (though they won their last one, the game over Anaheim that clinched the 5th seed).
Saw the T-Bay goal against OTT in Game 1 before the screen got switched to the Sharks game — was glad to find out that the Sens came back to trounce them. The Stanley Cup does not belong in Florida! (We can argue later if it belongs in San Jose or Ottawa lol.)
Should go see if I can get the spouse stirring…I’m still thinking mimosas for brunch… 🙂
Pretty good Olivia, thanks. It is considerably cooler than the last few days, but the sun is out. I’m working on our union PAC report, so I’m on the computer a lot today.
if this was their 59th or 60th wedding anniversary — I had to call my sister to double check.
Next year for the 60th, I’m going to donate money to our church and have the altar flowers done in their memory, with a mention in the bulletin…that’ll be a nice touch. We donated money for Easter lilies this year, and got a nice thank you note from the Altar Guild. 🙂
It gets a little easier with time — it’s been over a year that she’s been gone — but it’s still a little rough around the edges…
Hey there, all — good morning! Hope everyone’s enjoying a mellow Sunday.
Beautiful images up above, Diane! Just lovely.
Quite different from our ‘sunday in the country’:
Woodland Queen: Let us out! We are bored. Wench: You won’t like it. It’s wet & chilly out there. You don’t like wet & chilly. WQ: OK. Feed us then. .. No, we don’t want that. Or that. .. Oooh! I’ve escaped & I’m outside! .. OH NO! It’s wet & chilly! .. ?!!
..
Apparently, folks just on the other side of the mountain lost power yesterday due to ice on the tree limbs & power lines! It was possible to see a line of frost-laden trees at the higher elevations, while down below they were pretty in pink.
Began reading Asne Seierstad’s best-seller ‘The Bookseller of Kabul’ last night & must say I’m disappointed; it reads somewhat like a fable or fairytale in that the book’s characters — based as they are on an actual family attempting to live their lives under continual regime change in Afghanistan — seem entirely one-dimensional.
This morning, our regional public radio station opens their musical day with the soundtrack to ‘1001 Arabian Nights’, starring Mr. Magoo.
In any case, yesterday was also a major slackin’ day here at the hovel, many crucial concerns totally ignored. After this cup o’ java I’m gettin’ right to it, probably along with some Italian rap music.
It’s gotta be done, I guess. I find it interesting to see what these li’l gadgets can do.
After three years, I’m still learning about mine!
As to our weather: for the past week we’ve had temperatures in the high ’60s to low ’70s — weird enough — which makes this return to typical April a little unsettling, especially as it’s totally different just on the other side of the river.
At least there’s been no mud season this year, as we had very little snow. All of this will soon pass along.
I should correct the above to say that today’s weather feels like March — too chilly for April!
Here’s an image for you of Wildcat, taken yesterday between the raindrops. Note the frosty trees at the top, budding down below.
Speaking of wildcats, mine have finally stopped climbing the walls (literally) & have decided a nap is in order.
& so, to the chores for me. Enjoy the day!
Little snow is bad news, as our snow feeds the reservoirs that send water to the entire NY metropolitan area — so we’re definitely looking at drought conditions this summer. Threatened drought generally causes the city to attempt to retain water in the reservoirs, which can cause the type of flooding here that killed four people last year & left hundreds homeless. (They’d also shut down reservoir flow then, against possible drought. Then we had three days of rain & snow melt.)
Dry conditions also contributed to 2 local brush fires last week. Unheard of here in general, let alone in spring!
Hey there, Toni! (I’m back briefly for a wee ‘dive-bomb’.) Unfortunately, a wet spring can’t make up for what should’ve been a few feet of seasonal snow plus a wet spring!
The die is cast, I’m afraid.
I lived with a band in the late 70s/early 80s who sang a song: ‘More work! For the working man .. spends it fast as he can get it. ‘
‘Course, there was more work in general then.
Speaking of, there’s more work! for the wilderness wench .. that she’d better get to anon.
I must not be moody today because I prefer the no-rain shot of wildcat mountain. I hope you get some nice spring weather very soon — all this lovely new life is making me quite sappy (pun intended).
Hello cafe’ers, I just put up a very personal diary and would like you all to go have a read and maybe make some comments. I was going to post as a comment, but it really deserves a diary.
Hey everyone! It is not a bad day at all so far in the great state of TN. I have had to work almost every day lst week and am free for a few here today. It is like SPRING for the most part here and has been for going on a month. I have been mowing now I think it is about 6 weeks.
BTW, such lovely pictures here today..Would I ever love to join you all around the lovey and gracious lay out by Diane in the opening picture. Made my mouth water to just look upon it…;o)
I am here, kind of. I am busy working on a PAC report for my union that I should have started a while ago. The filing deadline is Tuesday and now I have to input all the info last minute.
Hi Toni. I’m glad to see you and sorry you have to work.
I’m fine. How’s Andrew?
I saw upthread you mention something about a Stanley Cup not belonging in FL. They have ice rinks on every corner. It should be the hockey capital of the world. 🙂
He’s good, napping right now. I’m baking an acorn squash, which he just loves!
I am sure that all those snow birds who retire to Florida think that Lord Stanley’s cup belongs there, but they are old, doddering, and sadly mistaken 🙂
I picture the five of you out there, roaming around, you and Jim w/ your cameras! Breathing in the wonderful fresh spring air, spotting wonderful little bits of flora and fauna, stopping to capture it for all of us to see … ahhh! Thank you!
running errands and then you were going to start taking pics — you wouldn’t be trying to avoid that learning curve, would you? 😉
Actually, it goes like this. I walk along sometimes taking a picture, I say something to Jim and when there’s no answer I look around and realize he’s about 200 feet back taking a picture of something. Meanwhile, Sniff has run about 10 miles to our 1, Giddy has her head in a hole, and Hopeful is about 200 feet behind Jim, wondering what in the hell we are all in such a hurry about.
I have to talk dirty to someone’s husband every now and then, just to keep in practice should I ever decide to use it on my own. Really I think ‘vulviform faces’ is all I need to remember.
I loved Indy’s haiku – let’s see if I’ve commited it to memory;
vulviform faces

Damn, that’s good. It made my day when I read it.
BTW, we did reinstall the drivers and it’s not the USB. So maybe I have to reinstall Picasa, but I’m afraid I’ll lose all of my pictures, so I have to back them up first.
Yes on the factory settings, no on shutting down. I did restart though. I guess I’ll try that next since the system has been on constantly for like 2 years. 🙂
I have had ports not be able to ‘clear’ so long as they were receiving power. I’ll admit I’ve never seen this happen with a usb port. BTW, is this going directly into the computer or through a usb hub?
Good Morning All. It’s still morning here on the left coast. This is a photo from Gooserock and taken by him yesterday…first sail in a while. Happy Earthday!
Thanks for the pic, Puget4 — I have to admit I’d rather spend my Earth day in the mountains than on the boat but the boat sure does provide a beautiful view of them.
Great to see you, Puget4!
Thanks for the image & your link. Looks like you had a lovely day out there.
Happy Earth Day to you as well! Every day should be Earth Day.
Just to let you know I am checking on cafe to see if it gets too full, while I am also watching Poirot and doing some gardening work….so I will post the next one.
Guess what, I found my first morning glory this morning, a purple one.
Morning folks, boy these cafes have been jumping lately. I gotta go and watch Sunday morn. talk shows, will be back in an hour to check the cafe.

Okay, so you didn’t miss much… lol
Good luck to the Sharks! They’re playing in the am?! (Those Eastern bastards dictating TV schedules … 😉
That’s a hard anniversary Cali — big hugs to you today … {{{Cali}}}

Bedlam on Booman! I’d have to recruit one more Ott fan, since you and DJ would have the leverage… 🙂
Take care of you today — I’ll be thinking of you.
So right you are about the Stanley Cup not belonging in Florida. It belongs in Detroit.
Hiya Toni! How’re things today?
Pretty good Olivia, thanks. It is considerably cooler than the last few days, but the sun is out. I’m working on our union PAC report, so I’m on the computer a lot today.
How are you doing?
We’ve been spoiled here too the last week was quite warm — people wearing shorts and sandals etc.
btw, I thought Edmonton was going to pull off the big upset the other day … 🙂
I was a little worried, but my boys were getting to many shots. The Sens dispatched swiftly with Tampa.
What was that jacket Don Cherry was wearing? He wears some ugly clothes, but that had to be the worst I have ever seen
And you’re right, that’s saying something for him. 🙂
And it took the Sens a coupla periods to begin dispatching — that was really worrisome.
Cali, I can’t yet imagine your feelings on this anniversary, but I hope you can see it through in serenity, with lots of love.
if this was their 59th or 60th wedding anniversary — I had to call my sister to double check.

Yes. My own experiences with loss & mourning tell me a year isn’t long at all.
Thankfully, it all does change with time.
Your plans for next year seem very appropriate & a very, very nice idea.
Hey there, all — good morning! Hope everyone’s enjoying a mellow Sunday.

What a lovely photo (minus the ‘wet & chilly’) and story to go w/ it — lol!
I think everyone’s gone off to do things today as well, as it’s been quiet…
Do your crucial concerns take you outdoors in the rain?
Good morning, my dear Olivia!
It certainly does seem quiet here this morning. Just as well — no excuses!
😉
I’m afraid I do need to go outside for firewood. Temperatures are just above freezing today!
Thankfully, it won’t last.
Hope things are going well by you. Did you pick up your new camera?
It’s a rainy, slightly chilly day here as well. A good day for a fire.
I did get it — yesterday. I’m still trying to figure it out, but that’s part of the fun (I think… 🙂
It’s gotta be done, I guess. I find it interesting to see what these li’l gadgets can do.

You can really see that frost line!
Have a good day ww — don’t work too, too hard! {{ww}}
Hard work, you say? Not me!
(((purveyor of loveliness)))
Does that portend ‘bad’ things regarding soil moisture, etc.?
Little snow is bad news, as our snow feeds the reservoirs that send water to the entire NY metropolitan area — so we’re definitely looking at drought conditions this summer. Very moody shot. I like it a lot. The cat looks like she is checking out her hunting grounds.
I read your comment — thanks for the encouraging words!
any pictures yet?
But I’ve charged the battery! 🙂
I have to go out for a few errands, but I’m all set to play when I get back. Hopefully I’ll have something this evening.
Yep, she’s definitely at it — a continual pastime (which also makes her a wonderful guardian).
Glad you like the photo! Moody it is.
Hi WW. Didn’t get a chance to say hello this am.
Howdy, FM!
Or is it ‘Working Man’?
😉
I lived with a band in the late 70s/early 80s who sang a song: ‘More work! For the working man .. spends it fast as he can get it. ‘
‘Course, there was more work in general then.

Thanks! I do try.
Rain’s let up — gotta fly.
I must not be moody today because I prefer the no-rain shot of wildcat mountain. I hope you get some nice spring weather very soon — all this lovely new life is making me quite sappy (pun intended).
LOL
Me too, Andi! Here, it’s kinda like extended coitus interruptus.
In a rare show of good judgment, I have decided not to comment on your comment.
I’m sure I’d do the same — but you get the idea.
Hello cafe’ers, I just put up a very personal diary and would like you all to go have a read and maybe make some comments. I was going to post as a comment, but it really deserves a diary.

riverbend 4/22/06
I just love to read her entries. Hugs to all and have a great day…
Six weeks! Wow. As of today, mowing’s just a gleam in my landlord’s eye.
Thanks very much for the link to Riverbend, Brenda. I’m glad to know she’s still blogging — haven’t visited her site nearly as often as I’d like.
Good to see you! Diane’s buffet does look good doesn’t it. Mowing — as in the grass? One of the drawbacks to having early spring/summer … 🙂
OK I’m taking my first break today.
Who’s around?
How much did you get done?
Kitchen, living room and clothes cleaned.
George/Cat in and out, in and out.
Still dusty bedroom, but that for after break. Unless this turns into a very extended break or nap.
I think I saw you were mowing the lawn. Hah. Been doing that for awhile and needs it again. 🙁
That was Brenda — our grass just turned green last week FM! I haven’t even thought of the lawnmower yet.
That sounds like a very industrious day for you! I’m impressed.
You should be. I’m impressing myself.
I remember Mary saying last night this is the new Mary.
I think I’ll become the new Family Man. Instead I’ll be Working Man.
Think anybody would buy that.
… you were off for your nap! 🙂
Well you’ve got me there since I hate lying.
I’ll just have to classify naps as work.
But then the zen koan (Coan)(Cohen), thank you very much Andi, come into play.
So if I nap and think about work, maybe dream about work, that is working.
Geez, I’ve got to stop working so hard.
You’re something FM! 🙂
I am here, kind of. I am busy working on a PAC report for my union that I should have started a while ago. The filing deadline is Tuesday and now I have to input all the info last minute.

Ok I’m back again. Acorn Squash? Andrew isn’t by himself, I love that.
I love hearing ya’ll talk about hockey because I know nothing about it, except for the fights. 🙂
Sorry got to go real fast. Youngest brother just drove up. Be back in a minute.
Jim’s got much better pictures of the paw paw flower so mine’s more like a sneak preview.
Hi Andi. Wonderful pictures.
Beautiful, Andi! Thank you.
You’re definitely seeing a bit more green than we are so far. What a lovely ‘preview’ indeed! Can’t wait.
How far away do you think you are from things starting to green up?
I’ll give it two or three weeks before we really get green.
I picture the five of you out there, roaming around, you and Jim w/ your cameras! Breathing in the wonderful fresh spring air, spotting wonderful little bits of flora and fauna, stopping to capture it for all of us to see … ahhh! Thank you!

LOL! I’m going to go now. Just was waiting to see if you’d put up a few pix from your walk — you’ve got us all spoiled now. I’ll see you all later. 🙂
Yeah sure, Olivia, that’s just what it’s like.
You’ve got sun that I hope is heading our way. It has been raining off and on all day.
I’ve got to get back to my report. I’ll check back in later.
Here’s another view of the pawpaw.

And a trillium too.

I believe this takes the ribbon for best O’Keeffe-ish representation of vulviform faces. Plus, it looks like it’s made out of leather. Very cool.
ummm, just checking — are you talking dirty to my husband? Because if you are, I just want to warn you — it doesn’t work.
I have to talk dirty to someone’s husband every now and then, just to keep in practice should I ever decide to use it on my own. Really I think ‘vulviform faces’ is all I need to remember.
I think a picture is worth a thousand vulviform faces.

Yeah, I thought it was brilliant, too.
Did you try restoring the factory settings on the camera?
Also, you probably did this but did you shut your system down (all the way off, not just restart)?
Yes on the factory settings, no on shutting down. I did restart though. I guess I’ll try that next since the system has been on constantly for like 2 years. 🙂
I have had ports not be able to ‘clear’ so long as they were receiving power. I’ll admit I’ve never seen this happen with a usb port. BTW, is this going directly into the computer or through a usb hub?
I should have stuck with my original introductory sentence for the shot. “A pawpaw with her skirt hiked up over her head.”
I have a gift card with $144 in credit that I am selling for $130. Just in time for wedding season.
I am also selling a brand new pepper grinder for $20. It is this model::

Good Morning All. It’s still morning here on the left coast. This is a photo from Gooserock and taken by him yesterday…first sail in a while. Happy Earthday!

Gooserock sends his best wishes to everyone.
Here’s a quickie reminder of my own new blog. http://findingbeautyeverywhere.blogspot.com
Hello Puget. Beautiful picture Gooserock took and your site just keeps getting better.
Thanks for the pic, Puget4 — I have to admit I’d rather spend my Earth day in the mountains than on the boat but the boat sure does provide a beautiful view of them.
Please pass on my greetings to Gooserock.
Lovely photo P4! And best wishes to Gooserock as well!
Great to see you, Puget4!
Thanks for the image & your link. Looks like you had a lovely day out there.
Happy Earth Day to you as well! Every day should be Earth Day.
Break time over. Got stuff to do.
Work, work, work. Seems all I do.
In happenstance I so did dream
Of doing things and work it seems
Upon a Lilly pad a frog did say
Of FM working there is no way

Just to let you know I am checking on cafe to see if it gets too full, while I am also watching Poirot and doing some gardening work….so I will post the next one.
Guess what, I found my first morning glory this morning, a purple one.
