Thx again for the great diary today… was telling the hubby on the way to Popeye’s tonight how that resonated so much with me. His question was why the f*#!k was that dude carrying a gun in the office in the first place… sorry I couldn’t answer other than to echo what you said that he was an investigator…
Anyway, very thought provoking, and I suspect more commonly experienced than a lot of people would suspect.
Hmmm. It looks like it takes a lot of recommends to make the dkos rec list at this time of night. Pretty soon it will take 40 or 50 recommends to have a chance.
I know. The site has really grown. The other day I had 252 recommends in my tip jar. That was a startling reminder of how small the frog pond is in comparison.
Booman, I’d be happy to recommend, but I never signed up at Kos… rarely even darken their portal anymore, and usually only on your urging. I like it around here much more, even if we are smaller, and real intelligent dialogue goes down so much more smoothly than flames… or pie. Ack, I hate pie.
well, I understand, but since the pie war Kos has added Georgia10, mcjoan, and SusanG to the front-page. I wish they all were posting here, but they are not. So, I like it over there.
I know few people understand my good friendship with Armando, but we’ve been friends since before he was on the front-page. Hell, I even drink liberally with Delaware Dem, even I though we agree on very little politically.
I agree there are some really great writers over there and I used to go to Kos all the time, but the time I have to spend on blogs now is so much more limited, so I’ve become more selective. I still manage to find what I need to know here and at a few other places and since I followed you here, it feels much more homey. Guess that’s a midwest thing, lol. Besides, you keep me up on the major issues, so I’m a loyal froggie now.
You might be interested in my Iowa roots. My grandpappy was Lester Duncan Longman and my uncle was Donald Longman, famous to University of Iowa students.
Just goes to show ya, it’s a small world… I might know more if I had gone to U of I instead of UW, lol. Thx for the link, I’ll check that out. Btw, did you know that a tornado did major damage to Iowa City a week or so ago? Heard it was pretty bad over there.
I have a similar problem, but I fix it by using Netvibes to manage RSS feeds to the blogs I follow. Sometimes seeing the headlines is enough, and if I find something I really want to read, I can open it up from there.
Was going to take the camera with me today and when I got it out the batt. was dead…left it on…although I thought it was supposed to auto-shut off…mystery to me.
Almost time for the Daily Show, though I am watching with great fear and trepidation tonight, since the (annoying) guest is Robin Williams. Most likely pimping that stinker of a movie of his that comes out tomorrow.
At least I have faith that Jon will do some fun commentary first, and I can skip the interview. 🙂
Catch you all later if anyone is still conscious. No new flower pix today, alas… it got all cloudy and dark early today and rain is forecast for the entire weekend, so y’all know what that means. Indoors cleaning and such work… but I’m planning on starting a diary, so maybe that will keep me away from the cleaning, hehe.
My heart’s in the ice house come hill or come valley
Like a long ago sunday when I walked through the alley
On a cold winter’s morning to a church house
Just to shovel some snow.
I heard sirens on the train track howl naked gettin’ nuder,
An altar boy’s been hit by a local commuter
Just from walking with his back turned
To the train that was coming so slow.
You can gaze out the window get mad and get madder,
Throw your hands in the air, say what does it matter?
But it don’t do no good to get angry,
So help me I know
For a heart stained in anger grows weak and grows bitter.
You become your own prisoner as you watch yourself sit there
Wrapped up in a trap of your very own
Chain of sorrow.
I been brought down to zero, pulled out and put back there.
I sat on a park bench, kissed the girl with the black hair
And my head shouted down to my heart
You better look out below!
Hey, it ain’t such a long drop don’t stammer don’t stutter
From the diamonds in the sidewalk to the dirt in the gutter
And you carry those bruises to remind you wherever you go.
And I’m listening to Fountains of Wayne. I love those guys:
Peace and love
Peace and love
That’s all I’m thinking of baby
Peace and love
Riding around in a Volkswagen van
Thinking ’bout the people upside-down in Japan
Staring at the stars in a distant galaxy
Wondering if there’s someone out there staring back at me singing
Peace and love
Peace and love
That’s all I’m thinking of baby
Peace and love
Lying on the floor just playing my guitar
Trying to find the chords for “Just The Way You Are”
Plane crash flashing on my TV
Well it could have been you, baby
It could have been me
We’ll never live forever
But baby things could be worse
Cause when we get together we are one with the Universe
Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont
Open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant
Got crazy karma, never harmed a single soul
So if you want to join me then together we’ll grow old singing
Peace and love
Peace and love
That’s all I’m thinking of baby
Peace and love
I hurt, but I’m holding off on the meds. In an hour or so I’ll take a couple of Oxycodon and let them put me to sleep.
I am very wary of those pills. When I had my wisdom teeth out many years ago, the doctor gave me a prescription for Percodan. I went through it and asked for another one because my mouth was still hurting. The dentist gave me a refill, but said that was it. I went through about half of a bottle before I decided that if I didn’t just stop taking them and tough it out, I was never going to shake them.
I’ll just talk to the air and you can read it and not respond. It’s almost Friday and that means the week is almost over. I don’t know about you but I’m ecstatic.
I have to go to a wedding shower tomorrow night (ugh) for a friend of mine’s daughter. It’s a great group of people but I really dislike showers — especially on a Friday night.
The rest of the weekend is flexible. It’s the weekend for the big charity book fair — just what I need, MORE BOOKS! But, can I stay away? There’s also the spring art walk in a quaint old town area. It’s always a fun, festival type event. And the Chihuly exhibition opens at the Botanical Garden. But I think the opening weekend might not be the best time to go to that.
My picture taking ability is very limited. I don’t have your talent with ANY kind of picture. And I don’t have a digital camera. So what usually happens is that I take a few pictures and they don’t get developed for months. The roll I developed last week had pictures that were almost a year old at the beginning.
After I got through talking to a lot of people I didn’t know and didn’t really want to get to know (but I pretended I did) I actually got to watch the game for a while with a group of loan officers I really like.
One interesting thing happened. One of the guys I was sitting with is a lifelong Republican. He and I used to have this tradition where I took him to the baseball game and we argued politics the whole game — politely but emphatically. I hadn’t seen him in a while so after a while he started in. But his heart didn’t seem to be in it and when I said so he told me that he’s come to the conclusion that Bush is really as stupid as everyone always said he was and that if the Democrats put up a reasonable candidate he would consider voting D. I asked what he would consider reasonable and he said he couldn’t think of anyone but he WOULD NOT vote for Hillary under any circumstances.
I wish he had come to this conclusion last year but, I’ll take what victories I can get.
That’s what I was screaming at the end of the game…don’t think my heart can take too many more endings like those (even when the Sharks come out on the winning end).
The game was ABSO-FUCKING-LUTELY UNBELIEVEABLE!!! I have NEVER heard the Tank that loud (and we saw the Canadian prog-rock band Rush there many moons ago). The place was rockin’ so much, if there’d been an earthquake we’d never have known it till the late news…
And Marleau was BEE-YOOO-TEEEEE-FULLLLL…and pure coincidence, was featured on the roster card in the current issue of the Sharks magazine that’s sold there before the games (it’s usually a monthly during the season, but they put out a special playoff issue — it’s got a gorgeous pic of the Stanley Cup, wish you could see it Olivia 🙂 ). The picture was titled, “Captain Fantastic” — wish I had access to a scanner so I could post it to the hockey boards DJ and I hang out on.
Oh, and I found out a couple of places a lot of the Sharks hang out — many of them eat at the same Coco’s the spouse and I go to frequently, and they also go to our local Longs’ Drugs to mail things home at the mailing center. I wonder if they live in some of the apartments in our area (not necessarily our complex, but maybe a couple of others farther up Fair Oaks). Hmmm…may have to do some serious hanging-out in the area next season… 😉
Congrats, Olivia, on the Senators win — now they can come home and wrap things up. Part of me would like the Sharks to be able to clinch at home, but that would mean losing on Sunday and they’re going to need a ton of rest and practice to get ready for whoever they meet in the next round. EDM lost to the Dead Things, unfortunately, but the Ducks came back to beat Calgary which is very cool…and hopefully tomorrow the Avs will send the Stars back to Texas to find tee times. 😉 (Many hockey players do a lot of golfing in their offseasons.)
I’m running on a strange blend of adrenalin and exhaustion…I’d best update my iPod and hit the bed very shortly…we’ll watch tonight’s Keith O. tomorrow morning, thank FSM for our DVR. 🙂
I probably won’t be going to sleep anytime soon. Not with a playoff game on the tube, tied with 6 minutes left to play and both teams going at it like it was the seventh game of the finals.
Was going through some pics from last summer and had to put this one up for you… We bring it in for winter, obviously, and keep it in a bright window until it’s warm enough to go outside in the spring. We keep it on the little patio out back all summer where it gets morning sun, some afternoon, then shade for the rest of the day. You have to watch it a bit at first to make sure it doesn’t get too much sun or the leaves will burn, but once you have the right spot, you can pretty much leave it alone. Since they’re semi-succulent to begin with, we usually let nature do the watering unless it’s a really dry spell. That’s it!
I heard someone once say that she took her houseplants outside in the summer so that they could get real sun and even rain. With my luck they’d become infested w/ bugs and die … lol.
We also put our jade plants outside and they positively thrive! Same sort of treatment, since they’re succulents. The other, more light sensitive ones summer on the screened in porch where they get plenty of light and humidity (such as ferns, dracaenas, etc.)
Loved your tale upstream of the Repug neo-convert. I hope you told him that Hillary is unacceptable too (not trying to influence you there at all, noooo)! Sounds like you had a fun night of schmoozing… I’m not so great at that so if the occasion arises where I need to do that, I may need to call upon your expertise. hehe.
How about a nice native midwest flower for my friend down STL way?
as would be any/all of the FBC/FBL regulars! Price of admission might include, however, pulling a few weeds! But other than that, pics and cocktails are on the house! The dogs just love having guests and are very good hosts. The humans, well, not so much. hehe
Sorry I didn’t get to take any pics of the plant today, but it was way too cloudy when I got home tonight … BUT… it’s about 9″ tall now and is starting to unfurl its first leaves! Maybe tomorrow, but rain is forecast all weekend, so I’m not sure when I can get the next batch of pics taken.
Sleep well, and don’t dream of Dragon Arums whatever you do!
Sorry I didn’t properly greet you earlier, Omir, so I will salute you on my way out… just think… these pretty things had a bit to do with those meds you’ve been taking tonight… hehe
Now, just imagine the Witch of the West crooning… popppies…. popppies…. See? You’re asleep now!
Come on in and have a beer. For you hard drinkers, the still is producing.
Newcomers and lurkers. Have a seat and talk awhile.
Exhausted, head hurts. < falls to floor >
You need a drink for that. Would you prefer to be pull over to the beer taps or set a glass of beer by your head.
I think maybe Boran2 is in need of Manny’s funnel tube, can you find it under the bar there, FM?
Got it. Does he have to breath during this?
There’s beer bong around here? 🙂
Let get some scotch and start an IV on him.
what if we ran vodka through the funnel?
Not so sure those are good ideas… he might wake up speaking Russian with a Scottish brogue… and that would be very confusing.
Maybe I should try it first to see if it’s okay? 🙂
My god, we’ll do what ever it takes for poor boran2. We’ve got to get him out of that state of consciousness into unconsciousness.
Thx again for the great diary today… was telling the hubby on the way to Popeye’s tonight how that resonated so much with me. Thank you!
Hmmm. It looks like it takes a lot of recommends to make the dkos rec list at this time of night. Pretty soon it will take 40 or 50 recommends to have a chance.
Time was when you could get on with about a dozen or so — if you posted on Sunday morning like I did. Those days are pretty much gone.
I know. The site has really grown. The other day I had 252 recommends in my tip jar. That was a startling reminder of how small the frog pond is in comparison.

Well I think with Russ posting here today, the numbers will take a big jump. At least I hope so.
Subtle but effective.
I would have gone the direct approach. Get your asses over there and recommend, dammit.
I’m heading off to bed. Everyone have a good night.
Oh and please pull boran2 out of the doorway. 🙂
This ole yankee wishes you slack dreams and don’t forget to take George out first…
Don’t worry about Boran2… CG and I will make sure he gets home ok. Drunk, yes, but in one piece. 🙂
That was boran2 I tripped over on the way in?
G’night FM.
too bad FM missed this! I did my special beer bong invocation for ya earlier, Manny, and look what happened!
I saw your comment earlier — it’s pretty addictive, isn’t it!
Right now I’m watching 3 at once: Calgary v Anaheim, Detroit v Edmonton, and Nashville v SJ.
that happens in the PO’s.
Got split screen capabilities on that monster in your basement, or flippin’ to and fro?
We could have four games on and they’d still be big enough to see lol. Probably succumb from to much excitement though … 🙂
Have you had any more revelations w/ your photo project?
for the time being…too much reality to deal with.
Was going to take the camera with me today and when I got it out the batt. was dead…left it on…although I thought it was supposed to auto-shut off…mystery to me.
Enjoy, I’m heading to bed with a book.
Peace

Well, I’m listening to the following:
And I’m listening to Fountains of Wayne. I love those guys:
I don’t know that song, but I like the lyrics.
Maybe you should go look through your BT files and see if you can find it…
hmmm. how did that happen?
Magical powers?
well, I’m feeling like this.
Well, you better watch out for Eva Braun.
I hope that I don’t have any special need to look out for that specific individual. That is a strange song.
I just managed to find the Ducks-Flames game on CBC TV. Tuned in just in time to watch a beautiful breakaway goal by Anaheim’s Getslaf.
How are you feeling? I read in the other cafe that your meds were wearing down …
I hurt, but I’m holding off on the meds. In an hour or so I’ll take a couple of Oxycodon and let them put me to sleep.
I am very wary of those pills. When I had my wisdom teeth out many years ago, the doctor gave me a prescription for Percodan. You and Omir the only ones still awake?
I’ll just talk to the air and you can read it and not respond. It’s almost Friday and that means the week is almost over. I don’t know about you but I’m ecstatic.
this week has dr a g g e d.
Any big plans? I’m heading to the mariachi festival on Saturday for good food and music.
A mariachi festival sounds fun.

you’ll have plenty to choose from. How was the game tonight?
I saw was good. And it was fun checking out a different part of the new stadium.
for the cafe? 😉
My picture taking ability is very limited. I don’t have your talent with ANY kind of picture. And I don’t have a digital camera. So what usually happens is that I take a few pictures and they don’t get developed for months. The roll I developed last week had pictures that were almost a year old at the beginning.
how’s the garden today? (and you, how are you) 😉
They’re just popping up now… And I’m doing great b/c tomorrow is Friday. My week has gone on forever too.
I think so — I was offline for a while, so not sure who may be lurking… How was your night?
After I got through talking to a lot of people I didn’t know and didn’t really want to get to know (but I pretended I did) I actually got to watch the game for a while with a group of loan officers I really like.
How did the game go?
Albert was 0-3 though.
One interesting thing happened. One of the guys I was sitting with is a lifelong Republican. Congrats on the win … And very interesting about that conversation. I do like hearing about those stories, although it really is bitter sweet.
(Btw, the Sharks are winning right now, and Marleau just got a hat trick and hats are raining down on the ice… Cali and DJ will be ecstatic.)
woo hoo! Go Sharks! Is this the game Cali was going to for her anniversary?
I hope they hang on and win for them.
That’s what I was screaming at the end of the game…don’t think my heart can take too many more endings like those (even when the Sharks come out on the winning end).

Man, what a humongous anniversary celebration…
disregard my comment above, I hadn’t opened up this thread yet. Perhaps a signal I should call it an early night.
g’night maryb, olivia, omir and other lurkers!
Night, Manny, sorry I only brushed by you and the beer bong tonight… some other time! Take care and sleep well.
I probably won’t be going to sleep anytime soon. Not with a playoff game on the tube, tied with 6 minutes left to play and both teams going at it like it was the seventh game of the finals.
Had to get a little competition with Olivia in on this one 🙂
Beautiful photo!!! Tell me how you grow your hoya — mine is hanging from the ceiling. And did you say you put it outside?
Was going through some pics from last summer and had to put this one up for you… We bring it in for winter, obviously, and keep it in a bright window until it’s warm enough to go outside in the spring. How about a nice native midwest flower for my friend down STL way?
It’s Olivia-approved, I guarantee you!
That’s beautiful!
I’m just glad to see you still around! So you’ve finished Lolita already?
I enjoyed it tremendously.
Now I just have to convert you to reading Flaubert… so you can see who Nabokov had been drawing upon (to some extent).
I’ll say good night to ya here, and hope to see you again soon. Sleep well!
… w/ you in your garden, and of course we’d have our cameras!
as would be any/all of the FBC/FBL regulars! Price of admission might include, however, pulling a few weeds! But other than that, pics and cocktails are on the house! The dogs just love having guests and are very good hosts. The humans, well, not so much. hehe
Hockey’s over (SJ won!) and I’ve had my nightly IVG flower fix, so I’ve off to bed. 🙂 See you.
Yaaaay!
Good night Olivia.
I’m off to bed too IVG and Omir.
