May the 4’s be with you
Welcome to somewhere roomier!
Is it happy hour already?
It is somewhere. Or some decade.
It is for me.
Boo is not good. Didn’t want to get out of the car. Couldn’t get up the last of three stairs and collapsed. I hauled him inside. He got a big drink of water and lied down. Then I made him dinner and he wouldn’t eat it. I hand fed him about 4 or 5 big chucnks of ground beef and then he wouldn’t eat anymore. The last time he tried to get up it took him three tries because his back legs kept giving out.
Now I don’t know what to do because he needs a walk, but he can barely walk and can’t deal with the stairs.
Vet said there was nothing obvious in the x-rays but they were too dark. So tomorrow it’s off for ultrasounds. But he is deteriorating so fast I don’t know if we’ll be able to get him in the car.
This sucks. He was fine three weeks ago, and now this.
Poor thing. I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
poor Boo
I’d let him go on papers and not worry about the walk. And I would think water is probably more important than food until tomorrow morning.
Call the vet. Ask them what you can do – that his next appt is tomorrow but he can’t even walk and needs to go sometime.
Is this a good vet?
If he gets any worse, I think that you should call the vet’s after hours number and see about bringing him back in.
do they think it’s hip dysplasia? he’s a pretty big dog, right?
my heart is with you guys!
he is 10 and he has pretty bad arthtitis. So, he’s a little weak, mainly in the front paws that bear the weight of his giant head. But he has suddenly weakened in strength, very dramatically in just the last two days. He has no fever, nothing obvious on the x-rays, and he had a clean blood test (except for lyme) just 4 months ago.
We don’t know what’s wrong, blood test comes in tomorrow. The lyme was treated and probably didn’t help his leg strength, but that can’t be it.
Heart is good. Lungs are fine. My best guess is that he has some kind of cancer, but even that seems strange since they didn’t pick it up only 4 months ago.
Not that it’s necessarily a cause for him, but some cancers can move very fast from small and barely detectable to metastasis and hugely problematic.
Also bear in mind that if he hasn’t been eating, that can cause some pretty severe weakness right there. I’ve been through stages of not being able to eat and man, it’s amazing how weak you can feel after a couple of days.
I’d forget about walks, unless he perks up.
And bear in mind, too, I ain’t no vet. Just dealt with quite a few sick animals.
Best of luck to both of you.
my dog was old, but quite alright and then we woke up one morning and it looked like there was a softball in her cheek. turns out it was oral cancer and she went downhill damn fast.
: (
I don’t know the details of how old Booman is, but I know he has had a great life all along. Of that I am sure. No matter what happens, he has had the best life any dog could have.
I’m so sorry. Health to Boo!
I don’t know where this cafe came from, but I stole it because it looks so cool! Sorry I haven’t been the best host lately, I haven’t been feeling that great. In fact, I feel a nap coming on.
All I see is a little box with a red x in it.
Really? You don’t see the picture?
No, just a little box with a red x in it.
Still at work?
Yes, still chained to my desk. If that was a technical question, I’m at work so I’m on IE.
The red x in the box was a dead giveaway that you still had the shackles on.
Here’s the cafe I stole the html from. Can you see it there? They look just the same to me.
No. Although I could see it the other night. But I was at home on Firefox.
That’s ok — I have a GREAT imagination. That lady in the hat is flirting with the guy at the bar and the bartender is pushing Moxie. I don’t need the real picture. π
I like the shoes. I was going to try editing somehow, but I’m afraid of blowing up the blog somehow. I’m a little klutzy in such matters.
I don’t remember the shoes so I’m going to picture them as ruby red slippers that have been handpainted on to the black and white picture.
do you see words or anything? I see it all fine. Hmm. I’m not sure what to do.
I see all the words — but no picture. And it takes forever to load.
Nothing for you to do. I can see it. And it sounds like CG can too.
I can see it too.
Hola ladies!
your problems straightened out? (you can choose if that refers to the computer or the kids.)
Haven’t tried yet. And damn if I don’t have some good pictures and ideas for some unhosted, gotta have some help, a bit of an assist cafe. Just got back and I’m playing catch up here and at hockey headquarters.
Got word from the bank that we can look for “bigger” homes π AKA homes with a little bit more and possibly in neighborhoods we hadn’t checked. Very good news. Mr. Stress Monkey is actually chilling with Danni at the roller hockey place. He’s been a veritable stress GORILLA, lately. And for what?? Nothing. The news turned out to be good.
Well.. -knock knock- we don’t have it all in writing yet though.
Anything I can do to help with the cafe let me know.
You probably won’t know for sure until you have an actual house you want to buy but if they suggested it, it sounds pretty positive.
Thanks Andi!
The bank loan lady dude was really nice. But she really warmed up to me. Mr. D was all business and number cruncher man. But I was able to lay out there in non-bullshit, realistic terms that only I could understand… but at least she got the picture of what we needed and wanted and our goals.
She told me she wants to take me out to her favorite ethnic lunch place when this is all over. Can’t now cause of ethics or something. But she sure did like us π I had her freaking laughing so hard.
I have to tell you about the picture — it’s a Salvation Army Bar in 1919 and the caption in the newspaper was “Saloon of the Future” with some text about how this would be what all bars were going to be like under prohibition.
It showed up fine the other night — I remember commenting on the Moxie sign above the bar.
It’s a great photo. Thanks.
it was rather charming in its wholesomeness.
That’s a great picture, but it needs something. I think the bartender should be wearing the helmet from a hazmat suit, and shaking a beverage that’s glowing green with smoke coming out of the shaker.
Nap, did someone say nap?
We missed you. I’m glad your feeling better.
Thanks Andi. I missed ya’ll too.
Screaming Orgasm
1 oz vodka
1 1/2 oz Bailey’s® Irish cream
1/2 oz Kahlua® coffee liqueur
Method
Pour first vodka, then Bailey’s, then Kahlua into a cocktail glass over crushed ice. Stir.
Caution: use only high quality vodka. Cheap vodka can cause the Bailey’s to curdle. Test your brand of vodka by mixing 1 Tsp each of vodka and Bailey’s first
ON second thought – I’ll multiple!!! π
I’ll have what she’s having.
that you do it yourself.
But of course.
It’s not beer, sorry – BUT it’s not pink either. If you don’t like it, I’ll finish it for ya, doll π
Zentini
Shake all the ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice and strain into a martini glass.
Chado – way of tea emphasizes principles such as harmony, respect and tranquility. It has been an integral part of Japanese culture since the 16th century by Sen no Rikyu. Chaji – tea ceremony features many ritual stages, each based on creating a perfect moment in time: from using a bamboo brush to prepare thee tea to serving guests with graciousness and hospitality. The new Zen Green Tea Liqueur is made from a blend of specially selected green tea leaves from Kyoto, Japan.
A miracle! This actually sounds like something I would like — the only mixed drink I ever drink is a vodka gimlet and I like green tea.
Whoot!!! I heard it in your voice π I could get a better feel (grope) from when we spoke.
That looks pretty good, but what does green tea liqueur taste like? It isn’t like, actually healthy or anything, is it? π

Are you going this Friday? We should be. You and I need to be more connected π Maybe when I get our house you can come over and such.
i actually made it this friday, but you weren’t there. and funny of funny…i spent the last two weeks working with a member of portland’s code pink. heh
Right on!! I’ve met a few of them. What was her first name? I might know her. AND one of them lives right down the road from me π
gotta go get my son – brb

OK, who is going to offer me the best bribe to root for either Anaheim or Calgary tonight? Bidding starts now.
not a bribe but we are in a bit of a jam here. I asked Wesley who he wanted to win. He said he hopes Teemu of the Ducks does well, but wants the Flames to win because he think his Dad likes Calgary.
Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
Well, does he? (Like Calgary, I mean)
Like I think I said, I was rooting for Calgary two years ago for no real good reason other than I was watching the series on Canadian TV and kind of hoping to send the Cup back to Canada. This year I really don’t have a dog in the hunt. My granddaughter’s ears perked up when she heard that one of the teams I was watching the other day was the Ducks. She used to watch Disney’s animated “Mighty Ducks” cartoon when the Disney Channel was running it. If you missed it you didn’t miss much. It’s about a bunch of anthropoid ducks from hockey-crazed Duckworld or Dimension X or something who end up on Earth and thwart Bad Guys while being a hockey team on the the side.
Yeah it’s about as good as it sounds, but when you’re seven years old your criticism processes are pretty unsophisticated. They have to be, or how else would you grow up not liking chicken Rama?
He just wants to toot his whistle for both teams. π
And… they just showed a preview of the new James Bond “Casino Royale” — ok there already has been a Casino Royale.. but you know what I mean.
So many want to hate Daniel Craig – Blonde Bond (dude was excellent in LayerCake) but we here just one a good 007 and it looks like ti will be fantastic!
Wesley’s here… and wants me to type that he found the sneak preview on tv while surfing the channel guide.
I’m not a huge Bond fan — I mean I’ve seen a few of the movies but for some reason never really got into them. I enjoyed a bunch of the spy spoofs, though (stuff like Get Smart and Spy Hard) and really liked The Avengers. Well, what can I say, an eleven-year old meeting up with Diana Rigg in that tight leather outfit she wore back then, what do you expect? Oh yeah the shows were great too. π
He’s gone now. π
But yeah he’s a HUGE 007 fan! I mean HUUUUUUUUGE! You can ask him just about any question about it and he freaking knows it. He even has the 007 Scene It dvd game beat all to hell.
My favorite superhero type spoof flick is “Mystery Men” π It’s fantastically funny
But he does predict it will go into double ot!
He’s never predicted before π
Not so much for people back east who want to follow the game but have to stay up all night to do so.
But that’s OK, the more hockey, the better!
Didn’t you say that the team you cheer for usually loses … π
Please take that into account when considering your bribe.
please sign the petition and take the poll.
Thanks! Please ask friends to sign.
Torture of detainees. Secret government kidnapping. Indefinite detention. These ideas should not represent the United States of America.
There is no better way to raise awareness and restore our nation’s role as a leader in the area of human rights than helping spread the word to your friends and family.
And – that’s one of the organizations that this family gives to.
Prediction: 0 ‘No’ votes
Quite a bold prediction there π
I thought so — a contrarian, like that fellow Omir, could go vote no just for the hell of it.
I’m drinking Pabst and wasting my day away.
Nothing like good cheap-ass beer for day-wasting. May be bringing on a necessary beer-nap, though.
Longest. Day. At Work. Ever.
Cya’ll later

AOL is doing a poll on Stephen Colbert’s performance at the White House Correspondent’s Dinner. Give him some love!
OK SN just let me know I was in the old lounge, and I’m here now. Since this was bought up, I have a suggestion.
I don’t know if that’s me or the medicine talking, but it makes sense to me.
Booman talked about doing something like this where there would be automatically be new cafe every 100 comments (or something like that) but the problem was that there couldn’t hosted cafes or different looking cafes. They’d all be the same. And it wasn’t clear whether a thread in the old cafe could be continued once the new cafe had started.
I think automation would make it way too impersonal.
I wasn’t talking about automation. I was talking about the way it goes now, but there would be an area for just cafes. Each person would put up thier own cafe, along with froggy bottom. However, we have 6 headings to the right. Why not one for cafe heading to the right where you can as many as needed.
Oh. But what about newcomers being able to find it easily?
That was sort of my whole thought. If it’s displayed prominently they’ll know exactly where to go. The more newcomers we get into the lounge, the more we get to reading the diaries.
As I said earlier, I’ll deny anything I said today because of the medicine I’m on.
I understand the problem.
I had another breakthrough — I went back to the oxalis flowers (the blog post where JimF explained the ‘A’ setting), and it looks so much better! Not only can you tell it’s purple, but you call see all the bits!
I wish Jim could see it but he’s off on a field trip. I’ll email him a link he can see it on Friday when he gets back.
Please give him huge hugs and big kiss of thanks when he gets back!
to come here and do that yourself? π
And smother you both w/ hugs and kisses! π
on the cheek would be more in keeping for a big I, wouldn’t it? π
… for a ‘big I’ … but it’s not because I’m shy. (My I-ness is relly b/c I just don’t care and b/c being social is work to me. π You’ve both helped me out so much that my exuberance upon seeing you would overcome any first meeting inhibitions, I’m sure …
Hmmmm “I-don’t-careness” I myself have used that before. Do you think we’re all just stuck-up instead of introverted?
Maybe for some — but I know for myself being social sucks my life force away. And I get migraines if I have to do it for long periods of time w/out quiet/alone breaks to recharge. But I a lot of times I just don’t care. It’s a good tandem … π
How come you keep commenting in the closed cafes tonight?
Because people keep commenting back. It’s a grand experiment proving…….nothing.
it’s a conversation.
I’m asocial. I hate social gatherings and prescribed behavior and dressing up.
You and Olivia and I should get together and stare sullenly at the wall. But that seems like so much work.
if I’m going to be forced to go do social stuff I’m going to make sure I share my misery.
My best strategy is to be the first to arrive — when there are fewer people — and the first to leave — which I deserve since I came early.
I invented that strategy. Which is why I never park in the driveway – mustn’t risk getting blocked in when it’s time to leave.
but you can’t have invented it because I’m older than you.
I think we lost Olivia.
She left us for a cleaner place and better beer.
and stick to the new lounge.
to one-up each other on our unsocialness.
Although I’m very huggy, kissy IRL as I come from a very huggy, kissy family. I just don’t want to do it around groups of people.
I am now totally in awe…and Jim is pretty good at explaining things, too.
And I’m still amazed that he could understand what I was having trouble with … I didn’t know the technical terms when I explained it. π
It was brutal…the final score was 11-1. The other team scored their single goal when 3 of our guys were out for penalties (yep, no middies on the field). And then, we made our defense players play attack and vice versa for the second half of the game, plus let the other team start with the ball, and they still couldn’t score.
It’s almost bizarre.
Damn, they are just crushing people.
We’ve been overhearing the coaches and parents from the opposing teams talk, and they’re stunned by how well these kids play together.
Hopefully our Monday night game will be a little more evenly matched, because we’re playing the other half of the kids from our school district. We’ll see…
How’s the Boo doing?
Well, one good sign. He just ate the rest of his dinner. I hand fed him half of it and then he ate the rest out of the bowl. So, he’s still eating.
Asked him if he wanted to go for a walk…got my first ‘no’ ever.
So, good and bad.
Olivia over here…..
That’s pretty unpleasant looking … π
I knew that would get you over to this lounge. π
I’m out of here. Can’t keep up tonight.
I’ll see ya’ll in the morning. Have a good night.
Goodnight, FM! I hope you’re feeling better tomorrow.
Okay, folks — the new Cafe is open!
