I’ll sit a spell w/ya FM… I still have another cup of coffee to drink before I go wash my brand new Egyptian cotton sheets I got a deal on yesterday. Then it’s out to dig weeds, holes and plant about a zillion new plants I got in the past few days. All my delphiniums died off over the winter, so I got about 20 new ones to replace them. Gotta have my delphiniums!
That’s why we’ve been systematically (over the last 7 yrs) been eliminating as much grass as possible in the yard in favor of flowers. We do have to leave the back pretty much untouched for the dogs though… they need their lounging and pooping space, ya know.
I wished I had a fenced in back yard for George. But George is such a wimp sometimes. This morning because it rained he wouldn’t go out. He won’t step on wet grass. I had to pick him up and take him in the middle of the yard, let him do his thing, then he stayed there waiting for me to carry him back. Well of course I did. but when it’s dry, he never does anything like that.
Ya dress a dog up in a tux one time and they get huffy. 🙂
Can you string a line between the back door and a tree or fence or something and then just hook George to it and let him run to and fro and do his business? Or is he like me and he can’t pee when he’s tied up? 🙂
Nope it more of a protection thing. This is an open neighborhood with no fences. Kids and big dogs will be going through the yard (common occurance and no big thing), but George doesn’t know he can’t tear up a big dog.
Thanks for peeking at my house everyone! 🙂 Who knows, maybe we’ll be watching the Stanley Cup Finals in it 🙂
Gotta get lunch and laundry going. Sprucing up the apartment, so we can hightail it outta here when need be. … the kids just make a bigger mess ACK.
Spicy French Fries coming up, what I bribe the kids with. But reminded me of this… we make a sauce we call “frog sauce”. Don’t know why, it’s just that gross names are what I do best.
Frog Sauce:
1 part ketchup.
1 part Best Foods Mayo
Sprinkle in it:
Johnny seasoning salt
or
Chili Powder
or pepper – whatever floats yer boat.
I used to get a big “so what?” from the other half about me raving about Egyptian cotton sheets… until I got some for our new mattress 2 yrs ago. Then I got one of those “Now I know what you meant…” remarks. hehe.
That frog sauce of yours sounds…. well, kinda scary! But that’s from a guy who doesn’t like ketchup and is not too fond of mayo… But I bet Zatarain’s Cajun Seasoning might be good in that… I just found a bunch of it last week at Big Lots and I bought em out!
ME TOO! When I used to have to travel all the time for work, I always loved staying in Westins… and that completed the conversion.
These are 300 count (I know, not 1200, but I could afford these!) and were on sale at Target for $11 each, so I couldn’t resist. Besides, they are a nice medium Martha Stewart kinda green. 🙂
Anything over I think 350 thread count is impossible. The ones they advertise as 600 thread count (my hubby got me some) are just doubled over. I like 300 count the best…and they have great ones at Penney’s. I’ve rediscovered white after years of preferring bold colors. There’s just something so pure and soft about white.
I didn’t know such things existed till we watched that cute movie Uptown Girls with Brittany Murphy and Dakota Fanning a few years ago. The Brittany character was always going on about how the best way to land a man was 1200 ct. EC sheets…
Then I looked around online, found some and damn near fainted at the price they want for those. 300 ct will do just fine for me!
I bought some flannel sheets and I liked them for awhile till they get all stretchy-like.
Regardless, I used to treat myself to lavendar oil spray – just a little squirt will do ya – for the pillows. Mmmmmmmmheaven.
As to the cajun, we get Zatarains rice and stuff here.. oops well we did in Calif. I’m mostly a chile or pepper freak. I wonder… I might be able to make that garden patch in the backyard a tomato and pepper palace! I love fresh peppers and tomatoes!
I usually heat my stuff up with my dried chilies or Mongolian Fire Oil. I’ve been thinking of making my own.
I love lavender. I always have it growing in my yard, and I put some sprigs under my pillow just for the great smell. It’s so relaxing and helps me fall asleep.
It’s not a strong smell, and it is one of the few smells that doesn’t bother my asthma. The worst offenders are perfume of any kind, air freshener, bug spray, gas, car exhaust, hair spray….just about anything that the person who sits down in front of my at the last minute in a crowded movie theater is likely to be swimming in.
Lemme tell you what goes good with French fries . . . milk gravy. I know, it sounds weird, but we got turned on to it in Texas. We’d buy these chicken finger baskets with fries and a little cup of gravy, just like you’d get ketchup or mayonnaise to go with your fries. At first I thought it sounded weird but then (after I tried it) I decided hey, you eat gravy on mashed potatoes, why not fried ones?
The cafeteria at work has this dipping sauce they get from Hellman’s in about four flavors — barbecue, ranch, blue cheese and garlic. The garlic stuff is pretty good. Some days, even though I know better, I’ll grab an order of Tater Tots and some garlic sauce that that will be my lunch.
This is nothing a guy my age with diabetes should be doing. But it can sure taste good.
The coffee is almost gone, and lukewarm, so time to get down to business! Or I’m gonna get b-slapped by Olivia tonight for not having planted and taken new pics of IT for her to see. 🙂
Enjoy the afternoon, all you folks… and FM, um … take a nap for me will ya? I don’t have time for one today. hehe
It’s cool and rainy today. And I noticed they look at you funny when you go to the nursery and take pictures of the flowers – especially when it’s raining.
Thanks FM. How was the nap? I’m thinking that I need both a nap and a shower but I’d rather do the nap first. If only I could sleep in the shower, or possibly have some cute cabana boy bathe me in my sleep.
She’s feeling a little better. I keep telling her she needs to get out and get some exercixe and weeding the flower beds would be the perfect thing. She won’t buy it.
I think Olivia and DJ would have been proud of me. I was watching hockey on TV. But I switched channel for a second and found the world 2006 Dart Championship game. That’s a can’t miss.
Golf will put me out, but from my old wild days, any bar game I’ll watch. Just before this I watch the Women’s 9-ball championship.
You know it’s funny I live right by a golf course, but have no interest in playing it. Even have a golf cart in the carport. My youngest brother is the golfer.
Thanks. This time of the year (pollen) along with what she has she also has asthma. So I keep running back and forth all the time to see if she needs anything.
O good, FM, thanks for asking. Just trying to get my life in order on the throes of a big decision. Sound like you are recovering well from the big wedding, etc.
to accept the job? Or are you like me and need to go throw a few hundred gyrations before you can actually make the decision that you know you’ve already made?
Thanks. There were some beautiful red roses and dahlias there with rain drops all over them and couldn’t for the life of me get the pictures to turn out My camera just hates deep colors.
Hey that’s a great house — I like the bay window effect. I’ve always wanted one. And nice azaleas in the yard. I’ve wanted those too. I’m just too lazy to put them in. Congrats to janet! When’s the housewarming cafe?
How, you may wonder, do I know that? Me? The person who hates gardening? Because my great aunt is the Azalea queen of Charleston Mo and people come for miles around to take pictures of her azaleas.
Oooh, very nice Janet. Looks like ya got yerself some rhodies there too. In about two weeks they’ll fall off the trees and look awful and make a mess, but while they’re blooming they’re beautiful.
Rose garden! None of the leaves seem to have any bug bites or anything. It’s amlost “ain’t natural”. I sure hope I don’t kill them off. Imagine the good times Olivia could have at my house 🙂
All the trees!!! It’s amazing to find mature trees much anywhere around here it seems in neighborhood.
And I think the back yard boats alot of ideas for some entertaining, mellowing out, living outdoors. Plus it has a little above ground garden area that needs some loving. Tomatoes and peppers and chiles!!!
I’m kinda worried… this place Twilight Zone Perfect.
I took so many photos because I knew my best friend would have so many quetions. And we both lost our ovens last year LOL. Then my in-laws wanted the photos – all of them in a hurry.
When we moved into our previous house it had a neat yard, a nice little garden and just all sorts of nice stuff.
Then we moved in . . .
Things are going to be “fun” for a while. I don’t know about you, but the thing I hate most about new houses is moving. I don’t think my wife and I are physically up for it any more. And it isn’t going to help that we are buying a house from our 87-year-old friend, and won’t be moving in before she dies, but her house is smaller than ours, so we will be forced to give up a bunch of our stuff.
It won’t be pretty. Maybe we’ll just continue to rent this house and use it as a three-bedroom storage shed.
it seems more of a neighborhood thing. All the yards were like gardens 🙂
Yup moving sucks. Can’t tell a Navy brat/wife any differently 🙂 but at least this time it will be taking the stuff DOWN three flights of stairs instead of UP. 🙂
Been slacking today, just watched Anaheim beat Colorado to take a 2-0 series lead.
Anaheim goalie Ilya Bryzgalov (may I buy a vowel, Vanna?) got his 3rd consecutive playoff shutout; reportedly the first time that’s been done in 61 years.
This is turning out to be an awesome Stanley Cup playoff series, for all teams…
Now I’ve got a couple of hours to get stuff done before settling in for the Sharks/Oilers game…
I listened to parts of that game. They were saying on the feed from KTLK that Bryzgalov (gesundheit!) has now gone something like 190 playoff minutes without allowing a goal, and this is a record. (The old record was something like 176. I was half asleep and missed it.)
I’ll be all over the Oilers/Sharks game tonight. Much as my inner Canuck would like to see the Oilers win, I think I gotta root for the . . . Oilers, because the teams I want to win almost never do so that way the Sharks will move on and you and Janet will be happy. (Well, Janet will be happy. For all I know you could be a closet Oiler fan.)
Pretty intimidating, but if you copy that link, then open Windows Media Player, right click the app, go to “File” and “Open URL” and then paste that URL in, you can listen in if you can’t watch or want to stay near the ‘puter instead of near the TV.
Now I’m off to go find the Oilers feed, which I’ll bet is being carried on CBC. Nothing against the Sharks but up there they live hockey.
come in sit down and eat and talk and eat and talk…..
Am I left here all by myself to eat everything?
I think George and I can do the trick. 😛
I read about your sheet purchase. Sounds great. I’ve always been a flannel sheet person though.
You can have all the digging and everything in the yard. I wish I could get you here so you could enjoy yourself working on my yard.
Well of course I did. but when it’s dry, he never does anything like that.

Can you string a line between the back door and a tree or fence or something and then just hook George to it and let him run to and fro and do his business? Or is he like me and he can’t pee when he’s tied up? 🙂
Nope it more of a protection thing. This is an open neighborhood with no fences. Kids and big dogs will be going through the yard (common occurance and no big thing), but George doesn’t know he can’t tear up a big dog.
uh uh! Iowa is much nearer to ME! I call dibs on IVG’s yard beautification.
that I’m always at your disposition to help out as much as I can from the distance that separates us! Don’t ask me to mow, though… hehe.
I don’t mow either. I hire a friend of mine’s son to do it.
Well, I do mow, it’s just that I’d rather be doing other things, and I think grass is just such a waste of space.
But where else do you play croquet?
I was first, no stepping in front of the line.
Yummy, what a spread. Just what I need before I go out and weed.
You too Mary? Going out to do yard work?
I’m starting to feel….. joyously happy it too wet outside here to do that.
I love pretty yards; I hate yard work. I actually have very few “garden areas” in my yard because of that.
But I’m slowly removing all of the overgrown shrubs and putting in other things.
I keep saying no yard, jut concrete. You could paint it a lovely shade of hot pink. Your place would stand out.
I love cotton sheets, Iowa!
Frog Sauce:

Johnny seasoning salt

Great for dipping fries in. 🙂
The house is really nice! I love the breakfast counter where the kids can visit you while you cook or they can do their homework there.
I love the two-level deck and the backyard has lots of potential – maybe a pond! Ribbet!
I like all the ivy in the side yard – no mowing!
Neighborhood looks like where I grew up; quiet and green and good for strolls.
Thanks Second! Some type of water feature, maybe a little fountain. The birds eat all the koi and froggies I was told ACK
I am an egyptian cotton sheet snob. Pure snob. When I’m in a hotel and they have those cheap-ass percale sheets it feels like burlap to me.

Then I looked around online, found some and damn near fainted at the price they want for those. 300 ct will do just fine for me!
Geez who doesn’t sleep on burlap? Sheet snobs indeed!
I wear Amish lingerie – it’s made of burlap.
Did ya hear the one, nah I ain’t gonna say it.
What? I just call it natural birth control.
I could certainly see how it would be effective.
Yeah, ouch.
and your little boudin too! 🙂 Next time we buy a 100 lb bag of potatoes, I’ll send you the sack for a pillowcase… hehe.
They make their pillows big up there, eh?
Zatarain’s Cajun Seasoning is just about in every store around here. About the only cajun thing I can get my family to eat is Boudan.
That figures… it’s hard to find here, and only place I seem to find it is at Big Lots about once every six months.
Well, you know where I stand on the boudin. I don’t blame your family one bit for disdaining that nasty stuff. 🙂
All yours, buddy!
I bought some flannel sheets and I liked them for awhile till they get all stretchy-like.
Regardless, I used to treat myself to lavendar oil spray – just a little squirt will do ya – for the pillows. Mmmmmmmmheaven.

I love lavender. I always have it growing in my yard, and I put some sprigs under my pillow just for the great smell. It’s so relaxing and helps me fall asleep.
And it doesn’t bother your asthma? Strong smells of just about any kind (except garlic, you can never have to much garlic) tend to bother my asthma.
I buy the jawafa-sized aka REALLY big bottle of chopped garlic. It doesn’t last too long around here.
It is the perfect food. Well, okay, maybe it isn’t exactly food but whatever it is, it’s perfect.
I consider the perfume White Shoulders to be among the deadliest things on earth. About the only thing worse might be a grain elevator.
(like in wet, rotting grain,) never went well with hangovers from the Friday night dance either.
There are couple of really big ones that I sometimes ride by when I’m cycling and I basically have to hold my breath until I get past them.
I’ll have to plant some lavender! I don’t kill lavender or butterfly bushes 🙂 But I need to find out if it’s natural to the area.
I can not believe I’d ever find a house like this and on such a lot/hood.
I can’t wait for the sitcom : DJ Jazzy Janet in the Hood.
Did you finally get one?
Lemme tell you what goes good with French fries . . . milk gravy. I know, it sounds weird, but we got turned on to it in Texas. We’d buy these chicken finger baskets with fries and a little cup of gravy, just like you’d get ketchup or mayonnaise to go with your fries. This is nothing a guy my age with diabetes should be doing. But it can sure taste good.
Hola OMIR, hey I’ve tried that gravy and fires gig before. It felt like thanksgiving or something and I just could never run with it 🙂
Yup got a house 🙂 Not moving in till escrow on other house closes. Which is on a yo yo date of “we’ll see”.
I don’t have time for one today. hehe
I take two just for you IVG. Don’t worry it won’t put me out too much. 🙂
Well it’s time for the second, or is it third nap of the day.
Check back in awhile.
It’s cool and rainy today. And I noticed they look at you funny when you go to the nursery and take pictures of the flowers – especially when it’s raining.
Mum’s the word

Let ’em look. You just go right ahead and keep taking these great pictures.
I’m thinking that given what Olivia hath wrought, we ought to be seeing about getting her beatified.
I’m waiting for them to report me to Homeland Security for suspicious picture-taking. Like I’m going to bomb Home Depot.
If that happens, you just say “But I’m a mother” and show ’em your stretch marks.
I think that would involve an additional charge of indecent exposure.
SN you are getting so good at this. Those pictres are beautiful.
Thanks FM. How was the nap? I’m thinking that I need both a nap and a shower but I’d rather do the nap first. If only I could sleep in the shower, or possibly have some cute cabana boy bathe me in my sleep.
If you’re going to be asleep, why do you care if he’s cute or not?
I don’t. Ernest Borgnine could sponge-bathe me and as long as I woke up with clean hair I’d be happy.
You need to see the movie Cousin, Cousine — all your ideas about baths will be changed forever.
Wasn’t really a nap. Taking care of Mom. She hasn’t been feeling well and cleaning up the house.
Now let me get this right. You want to take off your burlap undies, show the cops your strech marks and have a cabana boy bathe you while you sleep.
You really should be in hollywood writing for TV.
I hope Mom feels better. It’s nice now that things are turned around and you can baby her while she’s sick after all of the times she did it for you.
I’d certainly rather watch darts than golf — although I’d say watching golf would be perfect for a first-rate napper like you.
The way the announcers whisper during golf coverage puts me right out. Mr. Nature can watch it for hours.
Golf will put me out, but from my old wild days, any bar game I’ll watch. Just before this I watch the Women’s 9-ball championship.
You know it’s funny I live right by a golf course, but have no interest in playing it. Even have a golf cart in the carport. My youngest brother is the golfer.
I hope mom feels better too.
Thanks. This time of the year (pollen) along with what she has she also has asthma. So I keep running back and forth all the time to see if she needs anything.
Very lovely pix, SN. I feel so close to those flowers I can almost smell them!
Hi MM how ya been doing?
O good, FM, thanks for asking. Just trying to get my life in order on the throes of a big decision. Sound like you are recovering well from the big wedding, etc.
Well I missed the wedding because of a migraine, but things are getting back to normal.
Been enjoying any slack time?
to accept the job? Or are you like me and need to go throw a few hundred gyrations before you can actually make the decision that you know you’ve already made?
All three shots are great, but the backlight on the chrysanthemum is spectacular!
I agree with you Jim. I think that’s the best of them all.
Thanks! I feel so bad that I was slee-I mean working feverishly around the house during all of this praise.
I love the bottom one the most. Each petal is offering a droplet. It’s obvious my work here is done. 😉
Thanks. There were some beautiful red roses and dahlias there with rain drops all over them and couldn’t for the life of me get the pictures to turn out My camera just hates deep colors.
I’m done doin yardwork for the day.
Although it is nice to sit here in my weedless (more or less) back yard and enjoy it.
what’s going on?
Hi Mary. Not much. I think I have the bird flu. I made a couple of coments and everybody left. I know I bathed this morning.
You don’t have the bird flu. It just wasn’t raining where everyone else was.
Damnit Janet bought a really nice house and she is very happy.
Hey that’s a great house — I like the bay window effect. I’ve always wanted one. And nice azaleas in the yard. I’ve wanted those too. I’m just too lazy to put them in. Congrats to janet! When’s the housewarming cafe?
Yea I told her I like the bay window too. We’ve got azaleas here, but they need to be watered all the time.
So ya feeling good after all the yard work?
azaleas like wet feet.
How, you may wonder, do I know that? Me? The person who hates gardening? Because my great aunt is the Azalea queen of Charleston Mo and people come for miles around to take pictures of her azaleas.
I lived in Mobile, AL for awhile and they have the Azalea trail there. It’s really a beautiful drive through some very nice areas.
I thought it had a great kitchen. She said they are planning to move in May 30.
I’m very happy for her. It will be great for her to put down roots in one house and do all the “house” stuff she’s been wanting to do.
Thanks for the wet feet advice. I think the kids, most of all, will be so happy to nail down some roots.
I still can not believe our luck in finding, getting and having this home.
Wish I could have you all over!!! Hey… maybe in time – you all will be over.
Oooh, very nice Janet. Looks like ya got yerself some rhodies there too. In about two weeks they’ll fall off the trees and look awful and make a mess, but while they’re blooming they’re beautiful.
Congratulations!
Rose garden! None of the leaves seem to have any bug bites or anything. It’s amlost “ain’t natural”. I sure hope I don’t kill them off. Imagine the good times Olivia could have at my house 🙂

I’m off to another nap. Be back later.
I found a link to the Sharks’ flagship station broadcast:
http://a473.l1980447065.c19804.g.lm.akamaistream.net/D/473/19804/v0001/reflector:47065
Come on over to the Lounge.
