that’s an interesting combination of parallel universes.

There is a big change from 6th to 7th grade.
Last Friday when my 6th graders were picked up, moms and dads were almost always greeted with a big hug and usually a kiss. Even my most sullen preteens were genuinely happy to see the parental unit.
There is probably a good reason I don’t teach 7th graders. When I talk to some of my students, I make sure my hands are either in my pockets or held together behind my back. If I taught 7th graders, I’d probably have to be handcuffed.
IndyLib has arrived all in one piece and even survived an evening in Peoria.

Thank you very much. After looking at your list and mine, I feel like I should be in a rocking chair waiting for my medicine to brought to me. π
Don’t feel bad — CG has reached a much higher state of musical being than most of us.
You done good.
Thanks MM. What really pisses me is that most of my favorite stuff is on albums.
Lots of vinyl.
How do we convert to digital?
Actually I’ve done it before. I converted all to mp3 and had on disc. Something happened to them and now I hate to think of all that work.
I went to one of the sites where you can download free rippers. Then I bought a converter. You can plug your RCA cables into it and it has a usb connection on the other end. After that it was just watch the ripper for once the album was done.
The biggest problem. It doesn’t transfer any info about album, band or song. You have to type all of it in.
You’re way ahead of me, here, FM. I can hardly imagine what free rippers are. But aren’t most albums available on CD these days? I still have my whole collection of vinyl taking up lots of room and haven’t thought much about what to do with it.
PS. Maybe you’ll find the disc!!
Hey Ask just got back. I would say definitely if you can get it on CD do so. Although I can’t afford to buy CD’s anymore, some of my stuff is not of CD. I’ve looked on the sites for them.
But, if ya ever want to get back into that old album feeling with the pops and crackles, it’s the only way to go.
Thanks FM,
One day, with more time on my hands, there will be a conversion project. We’re talking hundreds of old albums, so replacing with CDs is too costly an option.
Did you hear the NPR story on the evolution of “One Love” and Bob Marley yesterday on ATC?
and I’d sure like to have a copy of every last one of them right on back to the first. BTW I really liked the first one.
Thanks NDD. Like I said upthread. I got to redo my albums becuase those are some of my favorites. It’s just such a long process.
No I didn’t, but I’m glad you provided the link. I’ve already started to do some downloads from NPR.
I’ve got to run an errand.
So I’m outta here and keep and eye out for me. π
More than you want to read!
You know it’s wierd but I don’t feel like writing and I don’t feel like working on my writing, even though I know it’s something I really need and love to do. Something has changed and a process that I once loved and executed compulsively for self-healing has now become a chore.
Today I finally dragged out my poor novel, which I’ve been working on for 5 years, and which has gone through any number of incarnations, and the fact is I pretty much just don’t like it. There’s still so much fixing to do that I would rather throw the whole thing away and start all over than go through all the nit-picky editing and meticulous changing, which I have done over and over again, endlessly mutating sentences into sentences that I eventually just cut.
I once thought writing was just writing, and now I know that’s not true, writing is mostly editing, but I don’t know how to participate in my own editing process in a constructive way. It seems like I just hate everything I write and constantly want to rewrite myself to such a degree that it’s like a tortuous form of self-erasure.
It makes me wonder why I bother and why I want to write at all, except that writing and the desire to write and communicate through writing is so ingrained in me that I feel thwarted if I’m not putting that energy to work and accomplishing something with it.
For years while I was a dancer I used to keep a journal and I thought that was a way to keep working on my craft and keep my writing energy alive while I did the other thing I loved and knew I could only really do while I was young. Now I have 80 volumes of journals covering 30 years which are pretty much just drivel and which it would be a nightmare to actually have anyone read. Still, I don’t know what to do with them, they are a record of a life, should I just burn them for shame that it was a life so poorly lived?
I want to know why when I’m writing message to my invisible cyber-friends in the Froggy Bottom Lounge, writing is so much more fun and really seems to flow. Maybe it’s not great prose, and not the Great American Novel, by any means, but at least I’m able to write without feeling like a thick cloud of cotton fog has paralyzed my brain.
Good Luck with the writing!!! I know how difficult the creative process can be.
I have so much more fun with a camera now, I have to wonder if the camera is doing what I was always trying to do with words. I am inspired by the idea of combining these two different ways of “seeing things.”
Before I read your last sentence, I was thinking the same thing.
I may comment more, later, but I actually enjoy the editing/proofing process. If ya ever want another viewpoint on a part of an ms, try my email below.
[ sil is arriving later this evening, I must vacuum and clean the lower level now to maintain the domestic tranquility to which I have become accustomed.]
Maybe that’s what it is I need a writing partner, there are many who write best that way!
I wouldn’t think that the quality of the journals has anything to do with the quality of your life — just as you could have written gorgeous journals and still lived a shitty life.
But the main thing is that these journals might be the ingredients for a very fine sauce if you were to try to cook them down to their essentials.
(And it’s easy to write in the lounge because everybody is so damn nice, funny, and snotty in the best way possible.)
My totally favorite audience, that’s just what it is, AndiF! I would see that as the greatest compiment.
Cooking them down to their essentials… that would be a process if I could only have faith that something valuable would come of it. Define valuable. Not sure how I would do that. Maybe that’s the problem.
Valuable — well does it have to be something that it is marketable or would it be worth it if it was something that was meaningful to you and your family?
At any rate, before you’d started I think you’d need to decide on your approach — for example, would you want to focus on your life or are you interested in telling a story about dance and dancers or would you want it to be more about the intersection (and the inevitable crash) of art and life.
A lot here to digest mm! Not sure how much help I can offer. I think it’s wonderful that you’ve got your words down. Are you sure about the quality of the journals, or is it b/c you are so close to them you cannot be objective? For instance, someone who has not had lived the experience might find them captivating …?
Good point, O. Maybe I need to look for that person to get a clue on how to proceed.
Hi Folks!!!!! Hope everyone has been having a great day. I have been busy as usual. LOL
I am less than happy with Howard Dean’s latest fuck up with the GLBT Community. He went on CBNN news and said teh Democratic Party Platform said marriage was between a man and a woman. He has apologized but this is not the first time he has made this mistake and I am sure it won’t be his last.
Dean Doesn’t Speak For Me
Yeah, that was a pisser, wasn’t it. You have to wonder if the idea is the confuse the issue so that the dems try to hold onto the GLBT community and the bigots.
Evening!!! Well, Dean is not in favor of gay marriage and only signed the Vermont Law cause his hands were tied. He is driving a wedge between the GLBT Community and the DEms at the worst possible moment.
Beautiful T-shirt, rf!
Thank you!!!!!!
Not so random today:
Vitamin C
Zinc
Loratadine
Aspirin
Orange Juice
Chicken soup
Echinacea
Ice cream
Sleep
More sleep
I’m working from home but the machines I’m connected to are doing most of the work. My head hurts right behind the left eyeball, my throat is scratchy and my immune system is cranking out more mucus than normal. In a word, I feel crappy.
So I’m here listening to Bela Fleck and the Flecktones doing “Flight of the Cosmic Hippo” and waiting for all the stuff I’m working on to finish so I can go back to sleep.
Take it easy and feel better soon.
Feel better soon!!!!!
Omir take care of yourself. Bela Fleck I wish I owned something by him.
Super groups occasionally form. Blind Faith was one of the first I remember, and a great one too. Andi and I like the Dolly Parton, Emmy Lou Harris, Linda Ronstadt trio as well.
We sometimes play around with who should make an album together. Her current favorite imaginary super group is Annie Lennox, Joan Osborne, Margo Timmons. I think Bella Fleck, Leo Kottke, Pat Metheny, and Robert Randolph would make some interesting music together.
Hope tomorrow is a better day.
I just got tickets today (on the way home from the doctor — wanted to make sure I did it before they all sold out) to see Leon Redbone and Leo Kottke together in July. I don’t know if they’ll play together or serially, but it should be a pretty good show either way.
We also got tickets to see Doc Watson, Arlo Guthrie and Los Lobos (three different shows). These concerts are held at an outdoor stage in a grassy meadow at the local zoo. We plan on taking lawn chairs and picnic baskets and just having a great old time at them.
and TW I’ve got on cassette somewhere too.
I hope that Leo & Leon do at least a couple of numbers together. The should include Leon Russell on the tour and have L^3.
Is Arlo’s daughter Sarah touring with him? I’ve downloaded a couple of her songs and she’s quite good.
Enjoy all your concerts and let us know how they are. I’m glad you got to share your germs with TicketMaster too.
Heh. I didn’t go through Ticketmaster. No use giving them my hard-earned money if I don’t have to. I bought two sets of tickets at the zoo gate. They were out of two of them so my daughter had to drive me halfway across town to get the other two sets. I think I still paid a convenience charge to the store I bought them from, but less than Ticketmaster and better than not seeing Arlo or Los Lobos. Los Lobos has done this series a couple of times before, and those times I always managed to not hear about them until the tickets were all gone. This time, it’s different.
Sarah’s not with Arlo on this tour, or wasn’t when we saw him a couple of months ago. His band included his son Abe on keyboards, his sideman Gordon Titcomb on pedal steel guitar and assorted other axes (guitar, mandolin, banjo), and three female backup singers collectively known as Burns Sisters.
One of my favorites is the Traveling Wilburys. There was something cool about five old friends just getting together, setting up a couple of mikes, and doing some music without six months of post-production. Too bad Roy Orbison didn’t get to live to see the success of the album, such as it was.
Ice cream is definitely the key in that list … π
Take care!
When we were kids we were convinced it would cure anything, or at least make us feel better.
I have not changed my position on this issue. π

How ya doing today?
LOL Pretty good. A little pissed off as you can tell but nothing I cannot handle. LOL Hope you are having a wonderful snake free day. LOL
As I told IVG, I talked to a neighbor and extended my hands to show him how long the snake was. He told me that was the new batch and that was only a baby.
I am now blogging from a parallel universe where there are no lawns, ponds, or snakes.
ROTFLMAO!!!!! I would be calling animal control to come kill the little &&*&).
I think I told this story before, but there is a city line running around the pond. They had to do some work on it a couple of years ago. Just in the part behind my Mom’s house they hit a hole that had about 25-30 water moccains in it. She told me that at other areas they had to dig up the same thing happened.
Needless to say, I don’t spend too much time out at the pond.
EEEEEEEEEEEEEWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW and them suckers are dangerous!!!!!!! The scare me worse than rattle snakes cause they don’t make a noise and the baies are more deadly then the grown ones.
I’ve been thinking once I’m finally in full protective gear, with long rake or stick, I’ll take a picture for the cafe.
MACRO LENS!
If I do this will be a shot long shot of me looking like the guy who invented the bear protection suit. If you’re talking a marco for the snake. Hah.
I can do without the pictures of snakes.
What an interesting list you’ve got there! I love Alicia Keys.
Hi Olivia!!!! Thanks. I have very eclectic tatse in music. I love everything except “Gangsta” rap and Heavy Metal. Music soothes a savage beast and sometimes I need it. LOL
… and I want to clarify that I like a lot of those other artists too … lol. I’m w/ you on the eclectic taste … the beauty is selecting what fits w/ your mood and such. Sorry to hear that you’re having a less than chipper day. {{{r69}}}
Thank you!!!! I knew what you emant in the first message. LOL I am usually really good at reading in between the lines.
Is the Annie Lennox, “Twisted” her version of the Lambert, Hendricks, and Ross song?
I have to admit I don’t know. LOL
You want to talk about old??
For a vocal “Top Ten” list what about this one??
1 Over the Rainbow-Jane Monheit
2 Maybe You’ll Be There-Diana Krall
3 Crazy-Patsy Cline
4 Desperado-Eagles
5 Sweet Baby James-James Taylor
6 Quarter to Three-Frank Sinatra
7 You Don’t Know Me Ray Charles/D. Krall
8 Pretty Woman-Roy Oberson
9 Will You Love Me Tomorrow?-Carol King
10 Bobby McGee-Janis Joplin
OMG what a greeat list!!!!! I know them all and actually have them all in my collection. LOL
Heck I know just about all of yours.
Wait until I load up some of the big band era songs I have. I grew up with them listening when my Mom played them and have certain one I still love.
I love big band music!!!!! I grew up with that along with show tunes and jazz. My mom loves all types of music and instilled that love of music and dancing in me at an early age.
My Mom was the same. She took piano for about 20 years and as a kid we’d all have to stand around and sing with her playing. I hate to say it, but I hated doing that.
The only thing I every learned to play form her was the St. Louis Blues. But listening to her records and yes Lawrence Welk, I gain an appreciation of it.
LOL My Mom can not carry a tune in a bucket. Her voice would peel paint off a wall, but I remember her singing Lullaby of Broadway to me as a child and I thought it was beautiful. I thjink she could sing that one cause she wasn’t trying to impress anyone but just showing love to a tired child. LOL
The Meeting last night was the Williamson County Democrats. I got elected as a precinct chair. They know I am moving in a month or so but wanted me on board as an “official” to help get things rolling in the precinct. I will still help after I leave the county until they can find someone else. We also had party officer elections and we were able to keep the conservatives who are trying to split the party out of any office!!!!! I felt so good about that that is helps lower the anger at Dean a little. LOL You should have seen the conservative faction as they realized they had been out maneuvered again. LOL
I’m off to see if KO has any light to shed on the Fitzmas situation.
bring back a report!!!!!
Enjoy MM and bring back so good news.

Beautifulll!!!!
“Wow!”
I am quoting my school’s art teacher when she saw Olivia’s site. It seems appropriate.
You and Olivia are giving me so many things to play with this summer. Which will start in 14 calendar days. But who’s counting?
ME!
Any travelling plans?
Not anything big this summer. We may get away a few long weekends, but we have some work that needs to be done at home this summer. : (
… but your home is a wonderland! I’d love to have to stick around home for the summer … π
Is this from the garden centre? If so, you should put together some sort of portfolio and find out if they would be interested in having you do some promotional work … flyers etc!
My son sent me a bouquet for Mother’s Day not knowing I would turn it into a specimen. π
Capturing the gift of flowers!
back to your hi up above.
Ready for the weekend?
I am so ready. It seemed like a really long week. It’s supposed to be rainy here, but I’m okay w/ that. Everything greens up w/ the rain.
How ’bout you? Got any plans?
It’s going to be cold and rainy here all weekend so that put a stop to idea of finally getting on my bike this weekend.
So nothing much except going to dinner with my mom, my sister and her hubby on Mother’s Day.
all went well. Was great to see BOHICA from VFP there. He made sure we came out of the building. I’m super tired, but super stoked.
Game is on and I have to make dinner. I’ll post pictures tomorrow or something. I’m burnt out.
Love to all. OXOXOXO
((((CODEPINK))))
Enjoy the game. Relax and enjoy.
I will share this though:
Homeland Insecurity guards… suck! And I had to shut one up. Thought he could get away with making comments… I don’t think his “training” prepared him for facing someone like me.
My underwire bra set the detector off… π But I was allowed in … with a pink bomb, too π
to take the bra off? That would have definitely unsettled them. π
I don’t think his “training” prepared him for facing someone like me.
DJ, there is no way to train someone to preprared for you.
I did indeed then it was decided it wasn’t bra and to go through again LOL
he was making comments I couldn’t really here. Like, “did you hear what that one just said” and “she’s got a mouth on her”… So I turned and gave him a nasty stare and I said “I’m an american I can still SPEAK can’t I?”. See, I was told I couldn’t pass out pamplets on fed property which suprprised me.
I turned and stared him down the short little shitter with tude. Me guessin’ hims not used to us widdle wimmin talkin’ back.
We did good today π Got some hecklers as we marched but got tons of love. We were a sight… pushing shopping carts in heels and aprons with pink bombs sticking out. π
I’m sure you gave him some things to think about. I’m really looking forward to seeing the pictures.
I just opened a new lounge. If you aren’t tied up with hockey and dinner, come on over there and visit.
I was thinking of you! Enjoy the game — looks like it’s going to another physical one. Take care of you! {{{DJ}}}
Olivian!!!!
My daughter was a bit upset. About me?? NO..
She was upset because she couldn’t get her picks in on time as she wasn’t expecting me to be late and her and I sort throught the photos because it’s kinda gross to google search sometimes ya know so I have to be there with her then she does her thing…
So we called the HOckey “commish” and she got Danni’s hockey picks in for her… but there’s no picture or hockey haiku. She’sa bit bummed LOL
One of the downsides to having a radical mommy her dad told her LOL
Walked in to see Ekman score! π and hear that my Joe got one. GO HOCKEY!!!
Never interfere w/ the hockey rituals! Danni’s got a poing … LOL.
Yes, Joe … oh, Joe. π
Get settled in and enjoy the game! Will be thinking of you all as I watch HNIC.
Good to hear you got home safely, DJ!
time for a new lounge. Back in a few.
New lounge opened.
