Whew! What a weekend! Baseball, chess, karate, and all under the age of 9.
Hey there GR, nice to see you grumble on in with the rest of us malcontents! Somehow those activities seem to be a rather odd disconnect … still wondering where chess fits in there. 🙂
It’s the crazy world of kids’ activities here in what Cali so aptly calls Silly Con Valley. Saturday morning we went from our 8-y.o’s Little League game (allow me to kvell for a moment about a play she made at first base in the first inning, stretching like J. T. Snow to scoop up a low throw from third) right to her chess tournament (same 8-y.o. has a nice, sharp, attacking style and only one opponent was sharp enough to realize that she doesn’t defend especially well). Then today we took both kids to a karate tournament, where our 6-y.o. placed, and 8-y.o. didn’t. 8-y.o., of course, is now inconsolable in spite of her successes Saturday. Truth is, 6-y.o. is better at karate (also spent more time practicing, while 8-y.o. was working on baseball and chess), but 8-y.o. isn’t quite ready to deal with that yet.

Yes weather underground is a great site, I used to look at it alot but not so much lately.
The thing I liked about that Canadian site is the weather trends graph. Love graphs. Is that nerdy enough for you? LOL!

I would love to find one with cool little forecast graphs for the LA area like the ones they have on that Canadian site. But oh well.

I already walked down that cyber trail with hope in my heart…. but I guess they are justifiably more interested in Canadian cities! I did find one interesting site which discussed California weather trends (alas, no graphs for the nerdy graph monger!) and said that the predictions for California coming out of Canada are very different than the ones they are preparing for here. Hmmmm, indeed!
Actually that’s about 1 1/2 hrs from here in Des Moines, but whatever they get, we’ve usually had it already. Yeah, NOAA used to get me hooked, but Weather Underground has me now… gotta love the name, if nothing else! But then, if the Symbionese Liberation Army had a weather site, I’d probably check that out too…. lol.
But it looks like we’ve got a bunch of ’em here right now (mm, dada, … :P)

if I went the full beard route I’d have to get a bucket full of that Just For Men stuff, as it would be almost completely gray. Sucks being from a family where everyone started graying in their mid-20’s… but I don’t worry about it anymore.

It’s kinda, sorta like a fu manchu ‘stach…and I keep the beard trimmed to @ 3/8″‘. My hair’s more trouble, and I’m about to cut it all off again.

My dad used to put that crap on my hair when he cut it when I was a kid… I hated it, just hated it. Came with the spiky comb thing on the top of the jar so you could make it stand up. Still shuddering thinking about that stuff. Though I swore Pee-Wee Herman had rediscovered it back in the 80’s…
And the smell of that crap… grrr…. only thing worse was that Stephens Lotion my dada used to use….
Partial beard freestyle … now that’s a new term to me. But those wacky Germans, what do ya expect? (Well, anything… just don’t go to their porn sites… to wit, remember what happened in the South Park movie!) That weren’t pretty, eh? Though I just loved it when the Canadians bombed the Baldwins…

No. But you should at least see the movie, South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut. The whole war with Canada thing alone should have you howling. And the songs are great too. It’s a brilliant film, even with all the coarseness … speaks volumes about this country.

Well, Matt and Trey are equal opportunity offenders… and besides, I’ve always suspected that she is a bitch, despite the cheery saccharine songs. We did have major gripes with them recently when they went after Al Gore so unfairly. But then when they took on Oprah, all was forgiven. I won’t even go there as to why that episode was so funny… it would just offend you.
… but as I grew up w/ children’s album (There’s a Hippo in My Bathtub, You Are My Sunshine, etc.), I’ve got a soft spot for her. Not a big fan of her other work, just the kids stuff — a hangover from my youth. 🙂

I managed to get up at a decent hour and then hung out with an old friend. We saw the DaVinci Code (it gets a B rating…barely) and then to ManzanaBees for margaritas. heehee
now I’m catching up reading the amazing threads at my blog today, the poetic waxing of people like Nanette, dove, poco and others is enough to keep me pondering for days.
Sounds lots more fun than mine… except for sending some plants from the garden to a new home, I spent the day trying to banish a headache and working for about 4 hrs, and still didn’t get the whole thing done. But there’s always today to try to make up… oh yeah, right, it’s Monday. Never mind…. 🙂
