Must be nice. I have to work tomorrow but it’s basically a matter of show up, send a couple of emails, and that’s it.
And afterward we are going to the the-yay-ter to see Les Mis. I’ve never seen it — only heard parts of it sung in a choral setting — but my daughter assures me it’s fantastic.
You’ll come back ready to take to the streets and protest the regime.
Unfortunately L’Enfant was a man ahead of his time and he planned DC with wide avenues that make it hard to barricade any streets. Sort of like modern Paris.
Take my hand
I’ll lead you to salvation
Take my love
For love is everlasting
And remember
The truth that once was spoken,
To love another person is to see the face of God.
I’m jealous you get tomorrow off. I’ve been laying here on the couch for 2 hours too tired to do anything but occasionally hit refresh. Of course, now I’m starting to get a second wind.
Does your brother in law have any movies coming out this year?
No, he’s working on an action/adventure film – Perfect Stranger with Bruce Willis and Halle Berry, IMDB says it comes out in 2007.
I’m off tomorrow for a Doctor’s appointment. It was scheduled smack in the middle of the day and I didn’t want to get sucked into going back and forth to work. I didn’t have any idea until afterwards that it was already a 3 day weekend.
Well, in a few minutes I get to go drive my granddaughter nuts. She likes her bedtime stories read in a certain way, with no deviations. So, I will turn the main characters into giraffes or penguins, give them all silly voices or goofy names, sing it like an opera, tell the story Colonel Stoopnagle style (“Once uton a pime there was a geautiful birl named Rindercella who had a musty stepnather and two sisty uglers.”), stuff like that. Sometimes I’ll do subliminal messages like “One upon a time there was a gentleman (penguin) who married, for his second wife, the proudest and most haughty woman (penguin) who was ever seen (by a penguin).” with the word “(penguin)” sort of muttered off to the side. This will be met with an emphatic “NO PENGUINS!” and occasionally I will get the litany of all the things I am and am not allowed to do.
There comes a time, though, when she is getting tired and the goofing off stops, and she lays back and closes her eyes and gets to hear the story just as Charles Pirrault or Mercer Mayer or whoever wrote it, followed by her drifting off. Most nights I start Cinderella and she doesn’t make it to the creation of the pumpkin coach.
Is that actually the sun in the distance, or a sundog or something? That is one kinda spooky picture. Makes you think of driving through the desert, hot and sweaty and out of water, and you come across the only motel for miles around, and there’s something incredibly strange about it and the guy out front whittling in his rocking chair but it is the only motel for miles around . . .
Hey Omir. Yup this one came out kinda wierd it was very early in the morning, just after sun rise and that is the sun reflecting in the camera lens. Pure beginners luck that it turned out being an interesting picture!
I missed the 2 week window by a day so everything ballooned up. I reeeeaallly despise that drive so unless I get a companion to join me, I don’t know if I’ll make the trek. The registration was cheaper than I anticipated tho.
of a gambler, even though I apparently have “good luck”. I’ve only been to a non-Vegas casino a handful of times and hit jackpots twice on slot machines.
If it’s for young kids, why are there a bunch of geezers everywhere you look? 😛
…..Vegas. Everywhere you look there’s a new shiny object to capture the attention. I haven’t been in a few years and when I did, hardly gambled at all. I’m a fan of walking around and sightseeing/people-watching so that was how I spent my time.
Gambling and heat are two definite turnoffs for me, so I don’t think much of Vegas. My wife hates it because when she used to go there for conventions there were invariably no rules against smoking, and she is very allergic to cigarette smoke.
I’ve actually only been once. We stopped off there about 4 in the morning when we were moving from Texas to Seattle to get some food. It might have been nice to just drive up and down the strip to see the sights, but we were all tired and by that time we just wanted to get the move over with.
My other casino memory is of a trip to Reno we took when I was a kid. I remember we stopped off and watched my mother work a slot machine as we watched from the open sidewalk about three or four feet away. At one time she made a small win — about 20 or so dimes, I think — and as I put my hand across the casino threshold to help her pick them up the security guard stopped me and said that no part of a ten-year-old, including hands helping mothers out, was allowed in the casino.
A couple of the airlines do cheap, last-minute online tickets for flights that aren’t full. Or at least they still were last time I flew, but it’s been a few years.
If you can do it — do! You’ll never regret it. Although, I’d splurge on the hotel and drive myself. Just so I could have some ‘alone’ time when I needed it.
Me? It took me three weeks to recover from that last trip (hanging head sadly.)
I don’t think I can go anywhere until I get my health back. I think I’m getting there, but I got a couple of surprises about the time of my last physical.
Andi and I are talking about organizing a midwest meetup in Chicago in the fall — probably late September/early October. I hope you feel up to travel by that time. I really enjoyed meeting kansas in person and I’d love to meet the real you.
If not, I guess I need to go visit my cousins in the KC area and track you down too. They’ve only been inviting me to visit for 6 years now.
It sounds fun, but I am probably going to have some sort of surgery in late summer or early fall, and I’ll probably have to wait until the next meetup — or see you on a visit here in KC (which I’d prefer with things so complicated). Because I really don’t think I’ll be that mobile for a while.
KC it is then. After your surgery when you’re very bored and immobile. Maybe after the meetup so I can tell you the whole scoop. Although if kansas comes she’ll tell you first.
state of gas prices, I’m not sure it would be much of a savings if I drive solo. The last time I filled up my tank it was $67.00 (before anyone screams at me, know that I’ve had my vehicle for eight years and need it to transport my DJ equipment)
Hi katiebird!!! I’m leaning towards a yes, but we’ll see how things go.
Since I filed for divorce, It is illegal for me to take my kid out of state and I don;t have anyone she can stay with. So, YKos is out for me. If you can swing it, you should go. But, it is not the end all. As long as blogs exist, there will be meetups, and blogs will exist for a long time.
I used to be very active in Young Democrats — And through the 70’s I met ALL the major Democrats, all the ones who ran for Democratic Presidential nominations and lots of others. And the things I learned going to the conventions — both the real thing & the YD conventions still matters today.
And I think YearlyKos will be at least that important.
impressed by the speakers and presenters they’ve managed to round up. It seems like it’ll be the closest thing to a “Democratic Party convention” that we’re gonna get until 2008 rolls around.
True, but I was too busy with the Little Leaguers, and as great a baseball movie as it is, you really can’t watch it with them. Watched The Rookie with them instead.
LOL! They keep saying it will rain, but really all we are having is wind with the hint of rain. I hate wind. ;>)
I’m doing great. I got rid of a lot of trash in my house tonight and I recently filed for divorce. I’ve been waiting for a good moment to say that, but I am just out of patience. I’ve been separated for 9 years and I finally bit the bullet. I’m scared and I’m psyched all at the same time.
Thanks. It is a big step. I’ve been hanging onto this weird status quo for so long and now I am looking for closure. My ex stopped calling over three years ago. I had to track him down to serve him. But my attorney found him and found a way to serve him. I’m just scared he will try to renew contact with me and our daughter. After so many years, we just want to forget him.
I hope the finalizing of everything will be smooth. You have a great relationship with your daughter due to your cool personality so I’m sure you’ll both help each other deal with anything that gets thrown your way.
I waited because my daughter lived with me and all was good. I didn’t want a battle over her. He left me for another woman so he did not want to challenge me either. Now, after 9 years and 3 since we last spoke to him means that no court will ever give him custody, and visitation is now unlikely. I can now seek a divorce without the fear that he can challenge custody. And, I am finally stong enough to face this situation and seek closure. Whew.
My thought is that lots of people noticed the blog entry, but they are gunshy. After the much-derided announcement of a Rove indictment that didn’t happen, the media and the blogosphere will be very cautious in swallowing this as true.
Clean cafe. Floors even washed. Enjoy
Why gee. A nice new clean cafe. Wonder who put it up here. 🙂
Night all.
Yes, it’s beautiful! You did SUCH a good job.
Hi!!!
hi KB, what’s going on?
I’m just hanging out. I’m off work for the next 4 days so this is like Friday night for me.
What are you doing?
Must be nice. I have to work tomorrow but it’s basically a matter of show up, send a couple of emails, and that’s it.
And afterward we are going to the the-yay-ter to see Les Mis. I’ve never seen it — only heard parts of it sung in a choral setting — but my daughter assures me it’s fantastic.

Ah, nice — but for the doctor’s appointment. But, yes. Nice.
I’ve never seen Les Mis. I can’t decide if I want to.
It is an amazing tale. Seen it four times. 🙂
I’m jealous you get tomorrow off. I’ve been laying here on the couch for 2 hours too tired to do anything but occasionally hit refresh. Of course, now I’m starting to get a second wind.
Does your brother in law have any movies coming out this year?

So, I’m lucky, but with some reservations.
Are we having fun yet?
I dunno — I just got here. I think I’m experiencing post-sweeps week let down. Lost is over…
Hi Izzy. Don’t worry, there will some unexpected delight this summer. I’m sure of it.
Okay, but they better hurry. I was this close to buying the Lost book today! Someone needs to save me from myself!
Don’t do it! It’s like crack, give in to this temptation and the next thing you know you’ll be buying the America’s Top Model book. Be strong.
Wait, ANTM has a book?!?
shhhhh, calm down. no, no I just made it up. Pay no attention to what I say.
I wouldn’t say fun exactly. Are you?
Well, in a few minutes I get to go drive my granddaughter nuts. She likes her bedtime stories read in a certain way, with no deviations. So, I will turn the main characters into giraffes or penguins, give them all silly voices or goofy names, sing it like an opera, tell the story Colonel Stoopnagle style (“Once uton a pime there was a geautiful birl named Rindercella who had a musty stepnather and two sisty uglers.”), stuff like that. Now that’s fun.
Can you read me one too LOL!
This is the nicest thing I’ve read all day Omir — thank you for sharing … 🙂
And, hey, O, I found some photos I took at an office retreat I was forced to attend in Palm Springs a couple of years ago. Hoping to cheer you up!
(This one might have worked better in our Twilight Zone Cafe last night!)
And you’re right, I think it would have fit the bill last night … 🙂
is that Luke Skywalker I see in the distance?
I think it’s one of the Sand People. LOL!
Is that actually the sun in the distance, or a sundog or something? That is one kinda spooky picture. Makes you think of driving through the desert, hot and sweaty and out of water, and you come across the only motel for miles around, and there’s something incredibly strange about it and the guy out front whittling in his rocking chair but it is the only motel for miles around . . .
You’re too kind. I wish I could come up with stuff like this and sell it but I don’t have the discipline.
Hey Omir. Yup this one came out kinda wierd it was very early in the morning, just after sun rise and that is the sun reflecting in the camera lens. Pure beginners luck that it turned out being an interesting picture!
I’ve been looking up flights to Vegas for YearlyKos, I’m thinkin’ about it…
find anything cheap?
I missed the 2 week window by a day so everything ballooned up. I reeeeaallly despise that drive so unless I get a companion to join me, I don’t know if I’ll make the trek. The registration was cheaper than I anticipated tho.
for going to Vegas. You young kids love vegas, don’t you 😉
of a gambler, even though I apparently have “good luck”. I’ve only been to a non-Vegas casino a handful of times and hit jackpots twice on slot machines.
If it’s for young kids, why are there a bunch of geezers everywhere you look? 😛
because I’ve never been to Vegas. It’s never been high on my list of places to go.
…..Vegas. Everywhere you look there’s a new shiny object to capture the attention. I haven’t been in a few years and when I did, hardly gambled at all. I’m a fan of walking around and sightseeing/people-watching so that was how I spent my time.

want some waffles?
now you’re making me hungry.
Don’t let me convince you since I’m not sure I’ll actually be able to go.
How come you’re not going katiebird?
Me? It took me three weeks to recover from that last trip (hanging head sadly.)
I don’t think I can go anywhere until I get my health back. I think I’m getting there, but I got a couple of surprises about the time of my last physical.
Was that your trip to St.Louis? I didn’t realize.
Andi and I are talking about organizing a midwest meetup in Chicago in the fall — probably late September/early October. I hope you feel up to travel by that time. I really enjoyed meeting kansas in person and I’d love to meet the real you.

That would be so cool — seriously to have something so special to look forward to!! {{Maryb}}

Oh, I want to go so bad! It seems like it will be a lot of fun.
impressed by the speakers and presenters they’ve managed to round up. It seems like it’ll be the closest thing to a “Democratic Party convention” that we’re gonna get until 2008 rolls around.
it sounds more useful than a Democratic convention.
You should go. And if I get to go it would be great to see you there.
Howdy, all – just a drive-by here; Ms GR and I are about to go watch Bull Durham for about the 20th time.
You know you’re supposed to watch it during spring training to get you ready for the season.
True, but I was too busy with the Little Leaguers, and as great a baseball movie as it is, you really can’t watch it with them. Watched The Rookie with them instead.
Yes, a better choice for the young.
And while you watch the movie, paint your wife’s toe nails 😉
Now that is an outstanding idea!
You’ll be dancing before the night is over …
<disappearing now…>
Good night, all!
Hi all. Just got a moment to drop by!
What did I miss? (j/k)
really, nothing. It’s been kind of slow all night.
What?!
I mean except for the excitement that katiebird has brought to the cafe! 😉
I should say so!
I think you should send over some of that rain you’ve been hoarding at the bay. It was hotter than hades today in the desert. Howz life?

How come you waited all this time?
I waited because my daughter lived with me and all was good. I didn’t want a battle over her. He left me for another woman so he did not want to challenge me either. That makes a lot of sense. I’m glad that you’ll finally get closure. 9 years is a long time to wait.
Un dia a la vez – one day at a time
Hi Olivia!
I’m off to an early slumber. Tomorrow is the last day of a long week (YIPEEEE!) Cya all on the flip.
night Manny, I’m following you out.
Later everyone.
I think you might start posting early closing hours on weekdays.
What do you make of this? It is from earlier today, so I would imagine if it was a big deal, then people would be all over it.
It sure seems like a significant development to me.
My thought is that lots of people noticed the blog entry, but they are gunshy. After the much-derided announcement of a Rove indictment that didn’t happen, the media and the blogosphere will be very cautious in swallowing this as true.
