May the 4’s be with you
I love a clean cafe! Look at all the table space!
ummm. (sip) good!
I’m a bit slow tonight…sounds as though you need a good break.
Hope you enjoy it!
A Bud cafe … ahhhh … 🙂
Survived another one, eh.
Yep … another one down. You as well.
Got big party plans this w/e?
sounds like fun huh? Haven’t gotten around to spring cleaning indoors and it shows…I HATE HOUSEWORK, ergo, I put it off until things get pretty bad…:{)
Lots of Bu hair floating around a la FM’s George? 🙂
I picked up my herbs the other night — got my sage plants … 😉 Gotta plant the herb garden this w/e.
but not too much Bu hair. Unlike Geo. she likes to be brushed and we’ve/she started to go swimming now and that helps keep her shedding out of the house.
I’ve got to get some annuals and some new sage plants this wkend as well. The 2 I thought might make it didn’t…a shame too ’cause they were about 8 years old and had gotten pretty big.
Wow. We can’t keep most herbs growing all year outside, so that impresses me. That’s too bad that it didn’t make it. How big did it get?
which may be different than what you’re used to. They wintered over for 7 seven years. In the fall, just before cutting them back, they were 3’+- in dia and about that tall. They have to have full sun, and you cut them back to about 6″ after the frost kill, and mulch them real good. I think the drought we had for several years seriously stressed a lot of things; combined with an early frost last fall and a relatively dry winter many plants didn’t make it.
I had no idea you were into gardening … I’m truly impressed. 🙂
I keep it simple, but I like growing things an am, quite proudly, fairly good at it. Not so much flowers as you and IVG, more landscaping type plantings…trees, bushes, ground covers and the like.
I’ve an indoor schefflera that’s almost 30 yrs. old and 16′ tall…takes up one wall of my LR…cool plant but a bitch to keep the leaves washed.
30yrs! Oh my, well … wow.
So what’s the 1? 🙂
And one other thought: is bush sage different from what I’d be growing in terms of drying and burning?
it’s what I used for the past 7 years…I think there are just diff varieties of the plants. Most people grow sage as an annual, but they’re all really bushes, as far as I know. Looks like sage, smells like sage, burns like sage…must be…Related to, if not the same thing as, sage brush balls that you see blowing in the wind and caught in fences in the fall and winter.
… I found at flickr. It’s huge.
from a comment in today’s Friday Bud Blogging, but I had a hellacious week and while driving away from my work complex decided to let all the stress go and enjoy an extended break. I went and had sushi for dinner (YUM!) then went to the grocery store and bought a bunch of food to cook for myself over the weekend. The bottle of wine was a necessity and now I’m enjoying it. I also managed to squeeze in a trip to the gelato shop for a great dessert. mmmmm.
What flavour did you get?
combination of cinnamon and cheesecake (of course). It was fantabulous. My favorite gelato shop is in Hollywood right across from the Chinese Mann’s Theatre, good stuff. The Tucson-version is good and helps endure the scorching summer.
I might have thrown in some chocolate … 🙂
Unfortunately or fortunately, we’ve got a chocolate store down the street — walking distance — from the office and they make the most delicious gelato. The last time I had coconut and dark chocolate.
I think that beer went to my head. And grand-doggie is going to wake me up early in the morning.
xxoo
See you tomorrow!
weekend katiebird, I’ll probably be around moreso than other weekends. Hope you get a coupla days of relaxation and rejuvenation. Paz
zzzz
See you tomorrow or the next day then, Manny.

MM! Thanks for reminding me! There’s still 2 hours, 2 minutes left for our Friday! Here’s mine:
Baby Got Back – Sir Mix-A-Lot
Sabor a Mi – Latino Solido (a local group)
Another Little Hole – Aqualung
Waiting on an Angel – Ben Harper
Seduccion – Thalia
Gotta Serve Somebody – Bob Dylan
Kokomo – Beach Boys
Breakdown – Jack Johnson
El Toro Relajo – Linda Ronstadt
Mi Gente – Ozomatli/Kumbia Kings
Kokomo is a cool song. Haven’t thought abut that one in years! Reminds me I should get some more Dylan. I only have him on vinyl and one CD.
so I have a fairly eclectic mix on my iPod. Makes for good conversation pieces :o)
You do everything on the side, Mannee! How do you manage?
But I’m glad you stopped for gelato and got some cool food for the weekend. After this week you need to pamper yourself thoroughly.
I was ready to scream at some peeps today but refrained, I decided to just “let go” when I left work and now relaxing thoroughly.
now relaxing thoroughly … that is very reassuring to hear! Basta, ya! eh? Or at least if I were you, that would be pretty much my attitude, as I poured another glass of wine….
my biggest issue at the moment is that I only bought one bottle of wine and it’s empty. hmmmm
Good you restrained, Mannee. It never seems to work well to scream in the workplace. Haven’t tried it myself, or even seen it much, but it never seems to work well in the movies! LOL
You can always come here to vent, though. I’ve had to do that a couple of times!
but since we’re so short-staffed I decided against it since I need them all to perform their duties. I’m the HR person, so I’ve been working overtime to get some replacements for all the peeps who have left recently. It’s just a lot on the workload plate to deal with, but hey, the piles will be there when I get back after three whole days off! 🙂
Yay! Spread it out as much as you can. Don’t go to the movies, since that makes time go by fast if it’s a good movie, and you want to make it last as long as possible!
Is there usually so much turnover at your Place of Employment, or is it just a fluke?
i work at a non-profit and this has been a major exodus. We do important work with the latino and immigrant communities so the tasks remain, that’s why it has been insane.
The only movies I’m planning are going to be rented and enjoyed on my couch. I am going to milk the relaxation cow for all she’s worth 🙂
I plan to do the same, but said cow around here also means digging and sticking stuff into the dirt. I know that sounds counter productive to slacking, but it is a very zen kind of thing to do.
Anyway, yeah, you take it easy! Take a cue or two from Bud…
Those siesmic flukes can be hell on the old HR department! Fingers crossed and sending good thoughts that positions will be filled quickly and smoothly with wonderful qualified and easy to get along with people!
before Cate Blanchett comes out with his greatest hits in the next year or so… (/snark, couldn’t resist)
How’s the lower left coast and the midwestern/canadian diaspora doing tonight?
I was just wondering where you were lurking this fine Friday evening.
HI IVG!!! (the wine is kicking in again) 😀
See below about grill… had dinner on the porch, watered some plants, then got sucked into KO and several episodes of The Dog Whisperer which C is still watching downstairs. But had to make it here since I had one of those early conk out nights last night … nice to see everyone still up and carousing!
Umm, I suppose Bud is snoozing though, huh? 🙂
half of the CONUS states on my ‘have-visited’ list and Iowa isn’t one of them, so perhaps one day I’ll take u up on that offer. I live for outdoor cooking, guess I’m still an Eagle Scout at heart.
I bet you’d be pleasantly surprised at Iowa, Manny. It’s not nearly as white bread as a lot of people think, and getting more diverse all the time. Besides, just generally nice people, nice countryside (lots of space and green), and world class sweet corn and pigs. hehe
Just make sure you come in spring or summer, as I suspect winter would not be your cup of té qui la. lol
for quite a few years when I was younger so have been exposed to long-term cold weather. In fact, I like it better than the heat, you should hear me bitching during the ‘flames of hell’ around here. aka the summer months. 🙂
The way I see it, it shouldn’t matter where you visit in the world, the Flying Spaghetti Monster will always help other like-minded folks cross your path.
Glad to see you here spreading around your wisdom and good cheer!
That totally intrigued when I saw that Blanchett was playing Bob Dylan. I had SUCH a crush on him when I was a teenager, my life was inside his songs, and it is very wierd to think of him being played by Cate Blanchett. She was very cool in Elizabeth though.
I’ve really come to respect her a lot over the past few years… though I still get her confused a bit with Gwyneth Paltrow (those blondes all look alike, ya know). She was really memorable in The Gift, which is one of my faves of hers…
Dylan? Well hmmm… we’ll see.
You gotta get yer blondes straight! Gweneth Paltrow is a total nerd and can’t act her way out of a paper bag. She totally ruined Emma, which would have been a good picture except for hopeless casting. I just don’t know when these film directors are going to get it straight and ask me first when it comes to casting! Sheesh!
BTW — I toyed with starting a blog today and posted a little children’s story that I just wrote called How to Take Your Turtle for a Walk. Comments welcome!
since I’ve avoided anything to do with Austen since I was a teenager. Yes, I know it’s great lit. My interests went far into other fields, so to speak. Anyway, I like Blanchett. But honestly, she, Gwyneth and Charlize all used to be just one huge blonde blur to me until something great stuck out… Monster for Theron, for example. Was it Gwyneth in Talented Mr. Ripley ? or Cate? See, I get confused… lol.
Uh oh, a new blog… ok, time for me to get offa my duff and join the b-crowd. O’s been coaching and encouraging me lately, and I know it will be good for me to finally get writing again. I will definitely visit you very soon, but probably not tonight, given beef and beer consumption. <belch>
Never saw talented Mr. Ripley, I’ll have to get back to you on that IVG! Beef and Beer <Burp> LOL!
I am a devoted Austen fan and if was only allowed to keep one book for all eternity it would be Pride and Prejudice. I would practically choose it for my Bible. Lost count long ago of how many times I’ve read P&P and all the rest of her books, too!
I used to hang out at The Republic of Pemberley but the fights there are worse than on dKos. You should see the flame wars over who was the best Elizabeth Bennet or (even more fierce) who was the best Mr. Darcy. Hilarious!
Garantee that you will love it!
Got me one of these today and broke it in tonight … verrrry nice!
One Touch Silver, 22.5″
Now we can grill for the unwashed masses! Open invite to BooTribbers, of course…
What did you make for your inaugural meal?
Pretty standard stuff, actually… A1 Burgers, a few hot Italian Sausages, corn on the cob and baked beans. Can’t believe the extra room there is in there! LOL… poor little 8 yr old Smokey Joe is getting sidelined big time.
Probably going to do some Iowa Chops this weekend (2″ thick pork chops for the uninitiated) and maybe some round steak I’ll marinate, grill and use for tacos.
After all, I figured it was my patriotic duty to buy a new Weber grill and stuff, grill all holiday weekend and pretend I’m some dweeb in a burb somewhere, feeling fulfilled.
Nah, I just like the grilled food!
I’ll bet money that you’re gonna really be glad you got it…I use mine year round…can’t cook indoors, forgot how. :{)
Oh you make me laugh… I sure hope I don’t look like a gnome yet… but that nymph you posted earlier today was way cool.
I’m sure this one will get used a lot more than the little one… much easier to move, bigger and all. Plus I sprang for the cover as well. Wanted to get one of the chimney starters, but couldn’t find one yet. That will come soon.
That was from the Chelsea Flower Show in London…HERE”S a few more shots from the BBC…the one earlier is HERE if you want to bag it.
… grass couch. I think it would be cool!
most of our greenery exists in the cactus family, I think I’m gonna pass on the garden couch and submit myself to having to visiting you for the opportunity to lounge on one 🙂
to accompany your Chigger Chesterfield…a Chia Chair
I like the terra cotta.
You know what would make both better — instead of using grass, you used ground thyme. Can you imagine how wonderful that would smell as you laid back, gently crushing the leaves … and then you’d also get little flowers too. Ahhhhhhhhh. 🙂
Thyme would be most excellent, no doubt. But whether it would grow in that medium…? For me, ideally it would be prostrate rosemary all over, but if thyme would grow, I sure wouldn’t rock the pot.
Btw, just noticed tonight that our sage is blooming… don’t think I’ve really noticed it being that pretty before when it bloomed. Going to get some pics this weekend while it’s looking pretty. I’m afraid that Lord Baltimore (one of my fave hibiscus plants) may have bit it over the winter… no signs yet. Impetus to buy a new one to put in on the front side of the house… always an excuse… never enough.
Think Ellen Burstyn having that encounter with her refrigerator in Requiem for a Dream. Just a little hibiscus… just one… and then I’ll fit into that red dress….
I think ground thyme would work b/c it grows in rocky cracks etc. I’ve got it in between my pavers so that when you walk on it it releases its scent — delish! — it’s very hardy and meant to be squished etc. 🙂
I’d love to see your sage pix. Actually, I’ll be interested in seeing anything you take pix of this w/e. I had my indoor rosemary blooming this winter and it shocked me! I’d never seen that before. (I took pix of it if you’re interested.)
And, that’s so true about just one more … when I made the herb run the other night, of course I had to pick up some more flowering plants.
I need to get lots of pics taken, along with weeding and planting, of course. We’ve got a lovely foxglove blooming now, the little rose has started, the irises are trying to bloom despite being badly trampled by some stray animal several times this week… there’s so much to do! And I’m still striving for the perfect “purple haze” shot of the false indigo before it’s done, sigh.
Rosemary blooms are very lovely… so tiny but pretty in their simplicity. I don’t know what your secret is, but we can never keep a rosemary alive over winter. I had one almost to spring this year, and just as the weather started turning, it croaked. Like all the others. At least we don’t throw the dead ones away… we use them piece by piece to throw on the grill when we cook. Talk about an aromatic blast… you should try it.
I had a lot of trouble up until this past year — the same not being able to keep them alive over winter. But this year I’ve had two big pots on my window sill growing new shoots all winter long. As fast as I cut and cook w/ them, there’s new ones growing.
The one thing I did differently this year, is that every morning I water them really well — a really good soaking. Every morning. This has kept the leaves soft and supple, not brittle. I don’t remember being so vigilant w/ water in previous years.
I like your idea of burning the woody stems. Good one! I’m going to have to try that.
Thx… I was doing pretty much that, in terms of the daily good watering. I didn’t keep up with snipping though and perhaps that was my downfall. Kept it in a very bright, sunny window the whole time and it looked good for quite a while, then all of a sudden it croaked w/in a couple of days. At least it gets used in one form or another, though. When grilling chicken or pork chops, steady addition of rosemary to the coals really makes a nice flavour with those.
But not surprising, as I’ve always found it to be very fickle. 🙂
we just consider it a pricey annual these days and give it a shot. We save the dried up plants for grilling, so it’s not a total waste.
We have a tough time keeping thyme going though… sometimes I think it’s just because most of our garden soil is too good for such plants. The sage has done best in really rocky, crappy soil on the fenceline with our neighbor’s driveway.
Yikes, big yawns are hitting me here… not sure how much longer I’m bound for this lounge. 🙁
Many thx for the links, dada! C wandered in and saw that nymph and about fainted. Well not really, but he was impressed. Peeking at that BBC site now at the other pics there.
My son says it’s past my bedtime! I remember when I used to tell him that! Oh, the good old days.
NIght all!
i have a big problem here…..the wine bottle is empty 🙁
what time do the package stores close?
so my odds of ‘winning’ just rose 😀
Would Bud be willing to go to the store with a note and some money, then bring it back for a big ole treat? If not, then I’d recommend a couple of good glasses of ice water and very judicious sips of tequila … or if you have any beer that’s safe. You know, the old German dictum: Bier auf wein, das ist sein. Wein auf bier ist rathig dier (I know I misspelled horribly, I only know it spoken) Upshot it… beer after wine, fine. Wine after beer, much fear.
he’s completely passed out. I started with wine so I’m fine 🙂
No beer on hand, so perhaps I’ll go to the store and replenish my stock.
don’t let that son boss you around too much… but I do know you need your rest, as do we all… see ya soon!
Today, one of my colleagues sent one of those online hallmark cards — a thank you — and I LOL and thought of you when I saw it!
of all these sleeping dogs, Bud, Bu, Pepa and Rolly. They’ve created a rift in the the space-time continuum and I can no longer resist it’s siren-like call, pulling me into the depths of the night, moth to flame…
Good night my friends…sleep well…catch ya on the flip.
Peace
See you dudes later.
Happy long w/e to you all!
Sweet dreams …
Sad truth… I’ll be cutting all the tulips and daffodils to the ground today. And yours are still going? <sigh> at least I got to share a bit early… sleep well.
Most likely to encounter you again soon, so à bientôt!
I think I and O are about with ya there, my friend. When sleeping dogs snore, that must mean they are expecting humans to join them, eh?
Glad I caught ya tonight, and thx again for the nymph pics. That’s waay outta my league, but it’s still way cool.
Gonna warp out here too, and maybe have my coffee w/the morning crowd of early birds (I envy em the ability). Big day of diggin and such today.
You and Bu sleep well! Well we’re moving on up! To the flip side… a deluxe apartment in the ????
Whenever (if ever) you get back here tonight… just fyi… that San Judeas de Tadeo candle we light last week burned out tonight… got the full 7 days out of it. Thought you might want to know… you and Bud have a great weekend of slacking if I don’t catch you again soon!
Getting my hot peppers planted this weekend for sure…. jalapeños, serranos, and other assorted hot stuff… my sister gave me one called “Mariachi” which we’ve never grown before… sounds like a long medium hot one from the description… will let ya know!
paz, amigo
