May the 4’s be with you
It might be a bit early, but who wants to lie out on the beach? Drinks included with the hammock. Who wants a little umbrella to go in their drinks?
Howdy there, FM. How’s by you?
That’s quite a lovely image up above — especially since it’s in the shade.
I don’t mind where I am today, as long as it’s shady. Still a bit warm here & the predicted thunderstorms are taking their sweet time about it.
Hi WW. Hopefully you’ll get some relief from the heat.
Our AC went out again this morning, but they got here fast and fixed it. They should have since they were here a month ago.
Hope they won’t be back again before the season’s out.
It’s just starting to drizzle a bit here & it seems the air’s cooled down already. That’s wilderness air conditioning.
π
Natures way is the best, but I’m not sure I could take it down here. When it gets over 90 F I want AC.
How are you coming along with the new abode?
Thanks for asking, FM! As of now, I’m basically still planning & cleaning out the current digs. Any estimates I’ve made (& offered the landlord) concerning my vacancy were rather optimistic.
On we go, however. We do as we can, given our limitations.
In any case, I sure hear you on those 90+ temperatures! Not fun.
You can only keep pushing ahead. Of course the heat doesn’t help a lot.
It sure doesn’t — especially just after the last snowfall! We’ve had no natural adjustment time.
Yay, virtual beach! No seagull poop, no skin cancer, and no sand in your pants. π
How’s tricks down there in ‘Bama, Family Man?
How’re you doing, Indy?
I’m sick again, bleh. Not surprising, though, given the stress of the move and the new germies of a new place.
I can’t believe you finally caught a break from all that cold and now it’s just too damn hot, lol. Can’t Mother Nature get her head around “temperate”?
She’s been playing with the idea all year here — but it seems to bore her.
Hope you can find your balance again soon, Indy.
Yes, the thing about goddesses is that they are often difficult to entertain. I wonder if that’s why they get themselves hobbies like turning people into stone for petty infractions and such.
Good wishes well received and right back atcha, WW. π
π
Thank you. Nothing to do but keep good feeling circulating. Goddess knows there’s plenty to counteract it.
Going fine Indy. Just to damn hot.
How are you getting along with the unpacking.
I have enrolled in the Family Man Internet School of Slackdom, and I haven’t unpacked a single box since last we spoke. π
You go to the front of the class. π
Good for you, Indy! (about the slacking) Sorry to hear you’re sick, but as you said, should be no surprise. Just take good care of yourself and shake it off soon…summer’s too fine to waste it being sick.
Otherwise, are you liking your new place? How’s the town?
I haven’t seen much of the area yet. We’ve been here for almost 3 weeks but that’s mostly spent getting settled into the new place, shopping sprees for household goods, and all that. I’m disabled with chronic illness, though, so I’m always sick, it’s just a matter of degrees.
We’re renting, so I can’t do any gardening π but we have some ducks & geese, both with babies, in a pond in the side yard. I fed the geese the other day and learned an important lesson about geese and people not sharing a concept of “personal space”, lol.
How you doin’?
before or after you learned about the teeth?
After! I was very brave.
you’re just like the little tailor, only we could have your saying be ‘seven with one throw’.
is the artful arrangement of unpacked boxes, so that they begin to resemble home furnishings.
that would be un-unpacked boxes, of course. Bleh. π
Yes! I am currently using two boxes as a nightstand, but it didn’t even occur to me to use the stacks in the dining room as a nifty way to avoid shopping for a table & chair set.
I went and looked through some boxes that I’ve had packed for a few years and forgot in one of them I had a gadget that raised my level of slackatude. A voice operated remote control. π
It takes a little bit of time to program in the marcos, but after that, I don’t have to pick up a remote again. Just talk to it.
I’ll take that hammock in the shade though, and some sun screen. Thanks! π
We got hammock ready and neon drink poured. π
How are you today Olivia?
Hope you both are having a good day — minimal facts, minimal work, minimal spills.
Hi Andi. How’s your day been going?
whatever olivia is feeling about facts and their need to be checked, I am feeling about customers and their need to be led by the nose.
Having a pissy kind of day, Andi? I used to hate it when clients showed up for a meeting but left their brains at home on the kitchen counter.
If those folks did that, I’d be happy since it would mean that at some point they actually had some brains.
Sounds like a very rewarding job Andi. Just think of all the help you’re giving to people and being paid for it too. Who could ask for more. π
Oh the beach. Being a very white woman the beach doesn’t agree with me for too long but I still love it. Right now I would give anything not to be at work. the last couple of months have been really hard around here. The boss has been in a very bad mood and of course with me being the admin staff guess who gets the brunt of it. Oh well I suppose I shouldn’t complain at least I have a job, But seriously …doesn’t he have a wife or kids he could pick on?
Hi ColoDem. We’ve got a hammock for ya and any drink you want.
Oh thank you. You folks over here are so kind. I had to stop drinking but I do like my rasberry ice tea. Thank you
This is the cafe, so anything ya want. Rasberry ice tea coming right up.
Don’t worry about a thing because you’re in the cafe now. π
Maybe we could find a small hammock for my Basset Hound. low to the ground…the boy is short…lol
We just happen to have a couple of hammocks perfect for Basset Hounds. What’s his/her name?
His name is ShadowFax. We call him Puppers. My husband name him puppers cause we thought his name sounded like a piece of office equipment. We rescued him when he was 10 months old from a couple that got him from their son. I guess the son moved out of state and left the puppy with the parents. Anyways he is my big baby boy wieghing in at 88 pounds.
88 pounds! He is a big baby isn’t he. π
I’ve got a little yapper and the way he like to jump on me, I couldn’t handle it if he was 88 pounds. I love Basset Hounds though.
It’s a funny story how we found out how much he weighed. We have a bathroom scale but I couldn’t pick him up. So we decided the next time my husband went to take the recycling stuff in we would take him with and let them put him on their big scale there. So a couple of weeks ago he took him down with him. Needless to say the guys at the recycle place got a big laugh out of it. I had started a small bet on his wieght at the office here and one of the guys here was closest to his wieght. that was at 75 pounds.
I can see why it would be so difficult to weigh him at home.
Just picking him up would be hard enough. π
the posting of critter pictures in the cafe.
I would love to do that if I only knew how.
Do you already have pictures in your computer? If so, it’s only 3 or 4 step and you’re posting pictures.
Yes I do so please help me out. Thank you
Tell ya what. There are some diaries on this and I had them bookmarked. Let me find them and I’ll put up a link for you. These diaries explain them better than I could, plus it gives you a lot more info than I could.
George is whining and I’ve got to take him out, I’ll be back in a minute.
ok thank you
First you need to sign up at a picture hosting service. The one I use is Photobucket. Other people like Imageshack. After you sign up for one of these, you will be able to upload your photographs to your own photo album. Both sites will generate either the url and an <img> tag you need to do post your photos in comments (photobucket’s img tag needs to be edited before it can be used, though).
It’s taking me forever to load a page. I’m going to shut down for just a minute and I’ll be right back.
Howdy, FM, WW, Indy and anyone I missed!
Sure wish I could be spending the day outside myself… low 80s here, a few clouds, blue skies and a nice breeze. If I can keep my energy up when I get home, think I’ll do an hour or so of weeding out front, as well as water the newly planted stuff. That warmer weather and sunnier skies boost the plants got is really making them shoot up. Question is, can we keep up with them? lol, probably not since we have to struggle to do that constantly!
Hi IVG. I’ve always been under the impression that weeds can be beautiful. π
How your day going so far?
if you know that there’s such a thing as dandelion wine, anyway. (And no, I don’t know how to make it, but I bet you can find it on the Internets)
Dandelion wine? I’ve never heard of it. Wonder what it tastes like?
a Ray Bradbury book. Never have had it, but have seen it in specialty stores. Those kinds of weeds I can live with as long as they’re not growing at the base of one of my delphiniums!
Yes, Omir, certain ones are good to have…I’m very tolerant as long as they stay in the grassy areas, but next to my flower babies, I’m as ruthless as a mother bear. (Some might say I’m one mother of a bear, whatever…)
I just looked it up. Apparently it’s made from dandelion petals, sugar, oranges and/or lemons. You cover the petals in boiling water, steep them for two days, add citrus zest and sugar, and ferment.
Not being a wino it’s something I wouldn’t try, but I might give the leaves a shot in salads. Apparently if you get them when they’re young and tender they make a pretty good salad green, although I think I’d want to get to them before the neighbor sprays Roundup on ’em.
I don’t know Omir. The Roundup might add that extra kick to it. Plus a little extra drooling never hurt anybody.
Mmmmm, Roundup vinegarette . . . make your tongue all tingly and stuff.
A better life through chemistry. π
Chemistry never lets you down, just makes you melt. π
Beauty may be in the eye of the beholder, but this beholder cannot tolerate certain things under any circumstances! Especially things like lambs quarter, which if left alone can grow to about 7 ft tall and need to be sawn down… better to nip em while they’re little, I always say.
Day is busy and I should get back to work here but just got out of a meeting, so needed a break.
Heard a great expression last night on KO… he was doing this satirical conspiracy theory piece on La Couric and referred to Dan Rather leaving CBS … “he went off faster than a calico dress at a West Texas prom.” That cracked me up, and it flew by so quickly it was easy to miss….
In a hammock, that is.
And while you’re at it, get me one of those frou-frou drinks done up in a color that doesn’t occur in nature. Preferably with no calories and no alcohol (not that we ever have calories or side effects from alcohol here in the cafe).
Hi Omir. Whatever you want. Although I’ve found virtual alcohol doesn’t leave a hangover.
Anybody got any string? (unidentified Firesign Theatre line that just popped into my head) Bet you know it Omir.
No, it sounds like something of theirs but I’m drawing a blank.
last weekend, and today is the day that I’m supposed to be cleaning everything up and putting it all away. I’ve been more than a little lethargic about the whole thing.
But it was good fun — we were remote enough that it wasn’t even that crowded on memorial day weekend, which is pretty rare for car camping.
All the way up on the north coast, a little bit south of Eureka. Very pretty.
Lucy had a great time, made friends with the locals…
And she seems to finally be growing up, figuring out the all-important Way of The Nap. Really, she was just so exhausted from the sun and sand and hiking that she couldn’t keep her little canine eyes open anymore.
A good time was had by all.
Nice!
Lucy looks like a tired little puppy. After all that walking and climbing I think I would joined her.
passed out at various times over the course of the trip. I’m not in great hiking shape right now anyway — haven’t gone on a serious backpacking trip for almost 2 years now — and hiking on sand is just a recipe for pain. There’s a 3 day thru-hike that starts where we were that I’d love to do someday… but this weekend, I was just as happy to go on some easy little walks and sit around drinking beer on the beach.
Most of the pictures we got of all us human-types are not at all dissimilar from lucy’s last pose there…
I used to volksmarch in Europe and they had check in stations all along the route. You got your card clicked, sat and drank some beer and started hiking again. At the end of the volksmarch is when the party really began though.
The middle picture is wonderful. I can just hear the two of them sighing over all the critters out there to chase that they haven’t spotted yet and doing some mild grousing about dinner is never, ever on time.
was awesome, too. He just sort of appeared in our camp one day… turned out he belonged (along with many other dogs) to the local ranger-guy who takes care of the camp. We called him Jack for the weekend.
Also turned out — he was too fluffy and a little protective of his crotch for me to check for a while — that he was the only male dog in the area that was not fixed. But was utterly uninterested in humping our in-heat dog, unlike his buddies, all of whom had been snipped. Very odd, but I’m thankful… I really don’t need a bunch of fluffy malamute-hound puppies.
One more, and then I’ll stop with the dog pictures. But it made me laugh, anyway.
I’m really glad he was accounted for, because I would’ve had to bring him home, which would not have pleased the landlord or our roommate who hates fluffy dogs.
Gorgeous photos, Spit — of such lovely beings!
Thank you for sharing them. What a beautiful part of the world you’ve seen.
Glad everyone shared the joy equally.
Well, FM, you’re not the only one whose AC’s on the fritz today. After repeated warnings of day-long thunderstorms, severe winds & other good stuff, we experienced about .05 minutes of drizzle, then this:
.. with sunlight temperatures holding steady at 92.
‘Tis definitely time to move to cooler climes ..
.. or hide.
Mama, make it go away!
LOL I love the last picture and caption.
I guess my weather wizardry gets carried to extremes. I’ll have to learn how to create weather in moderation. π
Perhaps there are just too many of us in dire need of your wizardry these days, FM. One can only do so much to right a disturbed planet while also slacking.
However: due to your intervention and/or Mother Nature’s embarrassment at being called out at the FBC, the clouds have returned & thunder rolls over the mountains. Since I last checked the mercury’s fallen 15 degrees!
I do hope you get a little respite from the heat. I hate feeling miserable like that.
Since I’m dealing with an ear/throat/sinus/jaw infection, I’m sitting here by the window in tank top, shorts & wooly winter hat.
Thank goodness the cats are used to my weirdness & there’s not another human in sight for miles.
I see no weirdness in that at all. You do, wear, eat or drink what you have to, to get well.
I’ve always been of the opinion to hell with what anyone else thinks, as long as I’m good with myself.
I’m right there with you, FM. No choice in the matter, really — I couldn’t rise to general expectations if I tried (and I’ve tried, believe me)!
Thanks for your good wishes. I’m slackin’ big time today. Continual, annoying pain tends to make me highly slackerly.
π
I’m the same as you with the pain thing. But then again, I’m naturally slackerly.
.. & we love you for it, as you know.
One thing I’m about to do, though, is take a little hike ’round the land, as movement helps the lymph glands function. I’d really like to clear out this infection. Maybe I can get out there before it rains (or doesn’t).
Enjoy your hike and don’t get rained on. That’s the last thing ya need.
Rain’s just started. Time to make sure both kitties are in & close the windows & door, or we’ll have mushrooms growing on the indoor rugs in no time.
Later, dear FM.
Stay out of that rain and take care of yourself WW.
haute couture in the catskills.
Yep — or hot couture.
Doing all right, Andi?
Not too bad. The weather here has cooled off so that the highs are in the 70s which is my comfort zone. I hope the cool down is headed your way.
Apparently it is — as of Saturday.
Glad you’re seeing beautiful temperatures out your way.
There is hope.
Ah, here’s the rain. I’m concerned that the Woodland Queen’s not in yet. Time to have a look around.
See you later.
and over and I even picked out the toe jam in between my toes and I cannot find this Sky News interview that Paul Hackett says was the reason why Captain Kimber was relieved of his command. It is sooooooo frustrating! Anybody seen it anyplace?
Sorry Tracy, wish I knew where it was, but don’t.
here’s all I found…via Yahoo News:
Bolding mine
Complete article, such as it is, HERE
that has Captain Kimber interviewed in it. Thank You!
