It went okay. The people are really nice and I got my own office which is great, a reprieve from the cubicle zone at least for the time being. The office is located in one of the ugliest parts of the San Fernando Valley, quite a contrast from working in Carmel. But I’ll take the ugly environs over a psychotic workplace any day!
Today was internet. My html books are downstairs and I haven’t gotten that far along to actually need them yet.
I’d like to get out and plant my herbs and seeds (it rained today), but it might rain again tomorrow. I think I’ll probably plant even if it does rain b/c I have to get these guys in the ground.
Hey there, MM..! CGardener will be on tomorrow, I hope… I was so pooped out from 6 hrs of weeding, when I saw the SW III movie come on, I just said, hey I’ll eat my pizza and we’ll see…
It sucked a lot less than the previous 2 in the cycle. Only Ewan McGregor saved it from total ridicule from me.
Well, here’s a shot of Banjo, the Great Cat Napper. We gave our pets that horrible flea treatment thing today, I feel so guilty, but the fleas are so bad this time of year, and they all seem to live through it. We only do it once a year. Are we bad?
I found all the new SWs to be a huge disappointment. They seemed like cartoons to me.
My money’s on Banjo (though Shadow is gorgeous), since he looks so friendly and playful even in sleep. And I’m a sucker for that pattern of cat coat (another ignunt area on my part). I just wish I wasn’t allergic to the little fellows… At least I can spend some time around short hairs like him… he’s adorable, to steal someone else’s word. heh
Banjo is a great cat, but my nickname for him is Not-Shadow since she is really the only cat in my life…. just kidding! Banjo’s mother was a feral who had a litter in my mother’s laundry basket…. and before you ask me what happened to the laundry… LOL (that was maryb’s question, I think)…
Ok, some kind of tree, and I’m notoriously ignunt about trees in general. Elm would be my guess, but never saw one of them blooming … e.g. I have no friggin clue, lol!
especially when it comes to trees. Expert in the little parcel of the universe I inhabit, may I be. Universe at large much bigger, I think. In areas ignunce, I may have.
but once familiar with them they’re easy to identify from a distance. The tree must be 40ft high. Too many trees around it to get a side shot, but maybe one looking straight up would work, somewhat.
Had to admit, the dianthus really surprised me, given their close relation to carnations. We tried carnations a couple of times and they never returned. See where they sent us? To the likes of the arums and such!
Here’s a totally banal picture of the veggie garden from Monday… you’ll be beggin for more close ups soon, lol.
it’s the tuber kind, so when and how do I split it off to transplant some of them to a new location. I remember helping my aunt doing this but at that age I wasn’t paying much attention to what she was actually doing.
Those look like great links o, just what I needed. I’ll probably print out some directions and take with to the farm. We’re headed up there again late tomorrow.
if they can spend most of the summer where they are, and not get lost from your sight, let them go till maybe late July, then dig them up. Transplant right away or keep in a cool place where they won’t dry out too much.
If they look like they’ll get engulfed and you’ll have no clue where they are, dig them up as soon as they’re done blooming. Either transplant right away and pamper, or store in a cool place till you can plant them. Don’t overwater them though… most irises don’t like to get their feet wet.
In either case, given the right growing situation, irises are really tough plants. I’d heirloom that one if I were you, it’s a beauty!
there are two beds about the size of car tire lying flat. These particular irises could go back to early 1900s.
The farm was homesteaded by my father’s aunt and her husband. So they could be from that time.
I know for fact there were there prior to 1960, but my involvement with the location is limited to that. There may be someone I can ask, but not sure if they’d know or not.
Seriously, if those plants are that old in stock… they well could be heirloom stock, or at least treated as such! I’d give them a privileged place if I were you, but I’m just a jealous gardener down here. In any case, make sure they get a special spot to thrive in, then you can divide them down the road and re-plant or give away to some other admiring gardener. heh
Hey, if ya come for a visit at the right time of year you can help yourself. I’m sure it’s been at least 30 years since they’ve been divided. So no doubt long overdue.
I love these shots, b/c we get a visual of what you’ve described. And I just had a thought: You could take close ups of the veggie flowers as they morph into fruit … that would be neat. 🙂
I’m a bit stiff, but also can tell I got a lot of exercise, so I hope the combo of the two will coalesce. I’m feeling a lot better after a hot shower to wash the grime off the dirt devil dervish that I was today. 😀
I’ve still got a lot to do today, such as finish where I was working, plant annual seeds there (I’m putting zinnias in between the delphiniums where the tulips are/were.) And decided to plant an herb trio in some open space I cleared… Cilantro, Parsley and Basil. I’m ambitious, I know… but now that the bulb stuff is cleared and weeded, I have to get something green going there!
It might have something to do with the fact that as C says, I’m a clumped up Leo in my star chart. Take that as you will, but though I may take short shrift of astrology, I’ve always fit the sign to a T, so to speak.
And I am definitely the fire kinda guy, so hey. I can get dogmatic about my flowers, but I’m no Armando, lol.
Where do I begin on that? Laid back Libra, he is. To say the least… lol. Remember, I have the impatient, willful terrier Pepa. Rolly is a very quiet, persistently watchful dog, except when sleeping (which is a lot these days).
There’s some truth in that thing about dogs being their owners.
I think it might be helping, but nothing dramatic, which is pretty much what I would expect, given it’s only been about 2-3 weeks now. Definitely not hurting though to use it. I need to check into that arnica that MM has been recommending … think that might help a lot w/the muscle pain.
Will keep ya posted though, and I’d love to come raid your irises, but you take high priority on those beauties first! just keep thinking heirloom… it’s a big deal to save rare plants you know… when you’re bored sometime go to this link and see what the folks in Decorah, IA are up to. It’s a cool organisation.
When I hear you talk about saving plants, I think about my “if I became a billionaire” plan. I would love to find some way to save all the species of plant and animal life. In my most idealistic and SF frame of mind, I fantasize having a DNA bank. How cool would that be!
They do fantastic work at keeping plants in the genetic mix. I wish they had existed when I was in college and I would have loved to intern there. It’s great to know that they’re helping keep a lot of old varieties still in the mix… it’s what we need, I think.
but I’m just an old hippie tree hugger type, so don’t mind me, lol.
last week, so probably got 10 good ones. I’m enjoying having some new material to fun around with. And have very much enjoyed all yours, o’s, mm’s, 2ndN’s, diane’s, et al.
… I’m getting sleepy here. But we’re all waiting on NDD whose off writing up a salacious snippet to entertain and shock us of his wild youth or something like that.
You got here just in time for the juicy stuff lol.
My folks had this funky little cabin by a small lake in eastern ND. It was about 20′ by 20′. There were basically two rooms, a small kitchen and an L-shaped room. It’s easier to go in the back door for this story.
So going in the back door the kitchen is off to the left. No door, just an open doorway. Opposite this doorway, or to the right upon entering the cabin was the master bed. (at the top of the L)
Then continuing past the master bed you come to the living room around the corner of the L. Then off to the left there’s a bunk bed.
Ohhhh, the memory… so sad… some important details are escaping me… Like who was the young lady with me that night. Well, no import for BTrs as ya wouldn’t have known her anyway. Oooops, almost had the name, but at least now I’ve got a face and a personality to go with it.
The evening started out at the dance hall on the other side of the lake. Nice pavilion. Used to roller skate there a lot as a kid.
Anyway, I remember dancing. The band took a break, so we were standing around talking. I asked my date if she’d like to go over to the cabin for a beer. But before she could answer we were interrupted and a conversion ensued with a high school classmate.
Once that finished this fine young lady comes up to me, and rather intimately places her knee gently in between my two, and says, “Are we going for that beer.”
Well, I was slow in those days, but not that slow, so of course I said, “Ah, yeah, let’s go.”
So we get over to the cabin and have ourselves a couple of beers. And then we’re getting romantic on the master bed.
But there’s this stupid bare bulb glaring on us through the kitchen doorway. You know, bare bulb, like just a bare bulb screwed into a socket with a pull string. Well, I thought this isn’t very romantic. Way too much light shining on the situation.
So being the bright fellow that I am I go in the kitchen and throw a small hand towel over the bulb. And return to the ahhh, romantic endeavor.
Well, here we are, still with our clothes on, but getting pretty, hot, you might say, when there’s a big pooofff!!! And a flash of light from the kitchen.
Well, of course, the towel is on fire, flames shooting at least two feet above the bulb.
So I think, oh fire, and throw a half full five gallon pail of water at it. Well that puts out the fire but the bulb blows up scattering glass everywhere. And by now the cabin is full of smoke. So we have to open the front and back doors, run outside and lift the wood shutters, just screen behind (no windows) so the smoke can clear out.
And all this time I’m thinking, “Well, guess that’s it for this night. No chance of resuming the romantic activities.
But miracle upon miracle, the young lady is still willing. Hmmm, now what to say. Well, let’s just say I was not disappointed.
Next time my mother’s at the cabin she’s asking, “Where’d all this broken glass come from.” Of course I tried to clean it up, but it had exploded, remember. Somehow we got enough of black soot off the yellow walls above the lamp socket so I didn’t hear anything about that.
Moral of the story: No towels over bare lamp bulbs. And never give up even when all looks lost.
This is hilarious!

Yeah, that’s a good one. Sent it to my brother a while back and he said he was laughing so hard he had tears in his eyes.
Burning the midnight oil? How are things out your way? It’s just barely cooling off out this away.
85F today, sunny, and enough wind to keep the MN state bird (mosquitoes) off’n us while we sat around a bonfire tonight.
How’d your first work week go, well I hope?
It went okay. The people are really nice and I got my own office which is great, a reprieve from the cubicle zone at least for the time being. The office is located in one of the ugliest parts of the San Fernando Valley, quite a contrast from working in Carmel. But I’ll take the ugly environs over a psychotic workplace any day!
When one has good folks around in the work place one can tolerate other nasty conditions a whole lot easier.

(surrounded by quack grass which has invaded an old flower bed)
The flower looks like it’s dancing with it’s skirts twirling around it!
That is what it looks like all right. And I was fighting a little zepher trying to take that shot.
Thought I’d pop by to see if anyone was around. If you were only 10 minutes earlier, you probably could have got d to stay awhile … 🙂
but thought I’d drop that iris in again in case IVG came by. I think I’ll go find a mystery blossom for to stimulate your sherlockolivia talents.
How’s tricks?
Think I’m coded out reading about photoblogs … 🙂
Got any special plans for tomorrow?
You must be bursting with info by now! Are you reading books or on the internet?
Nope, no special plans. It’s going to be hot again, so I will try to get out early to do the shopping. How about you?
Today was internet. My html books are downstairs and I haven’t gotten that far along to actually need them yet.
I’d like to get out and plant my herbs and seeds (it rained today), but it might rain again tomorrow. I think I’ll probably plant even if it does rain b/c I have to get these guys in the ground.
Weird to think about it actually raining somewhere! Why is there so much inequity in the distribution of weather?
Your website it so gorgeous already! Are you studying to make it even better?
… I can’t imagine it not raining … 🙂
Thanks for the kind words. Yeah, I’m trying to make it easier to read: the font I’m using now is not a good one for some people.

there’s something weird about the right hand side of this photo, but I’m too lazy to go load a better one.
I love the bug! Nice catch there …
Nope I know what it is. Just checking to see if I can stump the experts, ha!
Sharp eye on the bug. I almost missed it myself even looking at the very large version here at home.
BTW: I’m still in love with your dianthus.
The pink rose are pretty too, but they don’t make my ears twitch like the dianthus does.
🙂
Ear twitching’s a good thing right lol … I like the white spots on the dianthus petals.
image 1
blossoms show up more there, my photo must be past that stage by a few days.
Yikes. Have some color, and love the iris, NDD! Went back to see it from last night, very very cool.
Now about that Star Wars movie….um…
looks familiar but I’ll bow early to being stumped. Pretty though… reminds me a bit of a toad lily, but way too early for those to be blooming.
… what did you think of it?
That sure is a great pic of whatever that is… care to give a hint as to what it might be?
Congrats on making it through SW III! Have you seen the Constant Gardener yet?
Hey there, MM..! CGardener will be on tomorrow, I hope… I was so pooped out from 6 hrs of weeding, when I saw the SW III movie come on, I just said, hey I’ll eat my pizza and we’ll see…

Banjo is the only cat I’ve ever had that is completely oblivious when you stick a camera in his face.
Here’s my other pootie, Shadow, and you can see from the look on her face just how much she likes it!
My money’s on Banjo (though Shadow is gorgeous), since he looks so friendly and playful even in sleep. And I’m a sucker for that pattern of cat coat (another ignunt area on my part). purple?
reminds me of Tithonia Torch, ya got any of those, the humming birds really go nut over them.

Dang! too big of a hint. But yeah horse chestnut.
I’ve got one left at the farm. There used to be some smaller seedlings in the trees but I can’t find them anymore, so they must have died out.
See my comment up further under the blossom pic. Am I good or what!!! 😛
Guess that’s why we call you sherlockolivia, ha!!!
Ok, some kind of tree, and I’m notoriously ignunt about trees in general. Elm would be my guess, but never saw one of them blooming … e.g. I have no friggin clue, lol!
so far I’m batting .500 on the experts, so not too bad a night.
To be fair I’ll post a mystery flower for ya IVG, but so far I ain’t seen hide nor hair of them, so they must appear later this summer.
especially when it comes to trees. Expert in the little parcel of the universe I inhabit, may I be. Universe at large much bigger, I think. In areas ignunce, I may have.
Great stumper, Norski dude.
I didn’t even know what dianthus was … And I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a horse chestnut in RL.

Close ups of flowers, I mean!
it’s the tuber kind, so when and how do I split it off to transplant some of them to a new location. I remember helping my aunt doing this but at that age I wasn’t paying much attention to what she was actually doing.
dividing great bearded iris, and and another one.
Says to do once flowered, so in the next couple of weeks. The first link gives step by step destructions w/ pix. I have to do mine as well.
Those look like great links o, just what I needed. I’ll probably print out some directions and take with to the farm. We’re headed up there again late tomorrow.
Here’s my take on the irises, NDD.
In either case, given the right growing situation, irises are really tough plants. I’d heirloom that one if I were you, it’s a beauty!

Arums are much better than diathus IVG.
I love these shots, b/c we get a visual of what you’ve described. And I just had a thought: You could take close ups of the veggie flowers as they morph into fruit … that would be neat. 🙂
And I thought it was funny b/c the def that pops up in my wordweb states:
Now that’s cute, right?
BTW, did you see that Evolution of Dance link in the last night’s thread? That was funny.
Not sure what that says about me, but it does describe certain aspects of life… like weeding and never being done. Yikes.
I feel like Sisyphus some (most?) days… lol
6 hours is a long time …
I’m a bit stiff, but also can tell I got a lot of exercise, so I hope the combo of the two will coalesce. I’m feeling a lot better after a hot shower to wash the grime off the dirt devil dervish that I was today. 😀
If it doesn’t let up w/ the rain tomorrow, I’ll be similarly dirtied trying to get these guys planted in the mud.
I’ve still got a lot to do today, such as finish where I was working, plant annual seeds there (I’m putting zinnias in between the delphiniums where the tulips are/were.) And decided to plant an herb trio in some open space I cleared… Cilantro, Parsley and Basil. I really don’t know how you do it w/ working all day … it’s amazing really. 🙂
And that herb trio sounds wonderful.
It might have something to do with the fact that as C says, I’m a clumped up Leo in my star chart. Take that as you will, but though I may take short shrift of astrology, I’ve always fit the sign to a T, so to speak.

You compliment one another … 🙂
Come to any conclusions on the glucosamine yet?
I think it might be helping, but nothing dramatic, which is pretty much what I would expect, given it’s only been about 2-3 weeks now. Definitely not hurting though to use it. I need to check into that arnica that MM has been recommending … think that might help a lot w/the muscle pain.

About cos engineering seeds that can’t reseed. Seed savers and sharers might become more nb than we imagine.
last week, so probably got 10 good ones. I’m enjoying having some new material to fun around with. And have very much enjoyed all yours, o’s, mm’s, 2ndN’s, diane’s, et al.
Hi all. Any good stories today? :>)
Hey, I shared last night! I bet anythng that you have a fine story for us. I know ND ain’t that slow! ;>)
And don’t worry about giving us nightmares … we can take it. 🙂
Well, ya got that part right! ha!
Too many stories to pick from. And the ones that come to mind don’t fit well to world wide publication. 😉
And then there’s the sensitive ears of BT’s youngsters — (think olivia, et al who may be lurking)
But I’ll meditate on it see if I can come up with one.
Oh, I think I’ve got one. Been so long I almost forgot it.
Off to word to compose.
… you gotta stop using that as an excuse man. 🙂
LOL…I knew you wouldn’t let us down!
Although, you’ve set the bar pretty high … 😉
Hi O. Bar, where?
It was nothing…just a little dancing is all. ;>0
Anybody around?
Yep. It that time of month for me. 🙂
Hey FM..sorry, I just discovered the Armondo thread. Ack.
No problem. Actually I had been trying to get my DV to work on this laptop and I’ve got all the connections, but it won’t recognize it.
So I just stopped and decided to drop by to see all the wierd going ons you late night people have. 🙂
We’re waiting patiently, I might add, for NDD to provide us with a story. :>)
… your sense of humour. It’s b/c you ate such a big bowl of ice cream just before bed, isn’t it?
Yeah that’s it. I keep forgetting what is normal time for a late nighter. Are we in the middle of late night or near the end?
… I’m getting sleepy here. But we’re all waiting on NDD whose off writing up a salacious snippet to entertain and shock us of his wild youth or something like that.
You got here just in time for the juicy stuff lol.
Next time, it’s gonna be your turn for salacious snippits!
Who me? I’ll have to look up what salacious is first, then I might agree. 🙂
OK I just looked it up. I don’t think I have any snippets from leading such a sheltered life as I have. 🙂
😉
Well it looks like my timing is on the mark for once. 🙂
ya gonna open another one.
Who Me? Yeah it would probably be easier to open a new one. Give me a minute and I’ll have it ready.
I hardly had your comment read and he’s off … 🙂 So you know that if we have a fresh cafe more eyes are likely to see your salacious story … 😉
And after I opened a nice roomy cafe for ya. 🙂
“more people may see it in the new cafe” comment.
To heck with that, I’m going to cut and paste it for ya! ;>0
Nice to see you, sorry to hear you’re insomniacally inclined… this should put you to sleep tout de suite!
Tomatoes and peppers, and herbs, oh MY!
Thanks IVG. I can’t believe we’re in the cafe at the same time without one having to work or nap. 🙂
There must be some kind of harmonic slackeresque convergence going on tonight… let me check the star signs…
OH and remind me some day to tell you about the summer I worked in the porn industry, lol.
Is George properly comatose? Pepa is probably snoring in the next room… heh.
😉
All is converging on one spot.
Porn industry huh. 🙂 Wowie Zowie!
… dwarfed by the cages.
When I watered today, they have easily doubled in size… tomatoes love the hot weather, and that we have had in spades the past few days…
You’ll see more as stuff matures… I threaten, not promise, lol.
Froggy Bottom Café 24/7~ Part 2.5.

nahhh, actually that was just a rare instance of luck for me.
The way my luck is, she would had run screaming out of the cabin, then send me a bill because she broke a heel on her shoe or something.
That was definitely luck. 🙂
You wuss. I’m on dial up you know!
That was a great story. It would have been the perfect opening for a new thread!
Oh…I’m still laughing. Gotta love those “whoops” moments.
I don’t know about you, but I’m lost at the moment. I think it has to do with I’m usually sound asleep by now. 🙂
Is there’s truth to that ah … you know ah … using ah … one, um, hea… oh never mind.
Towel over a lightbulb … LOL!
