Scientists at Ontario’s Genetic Research Institute announced and demonstrated the results of their project to take the genetic material of a chameleon and combine it with a dog’s. When asked why they pursued this line of research Dr. B. Wellington (Stoner) Smyth said, “Dude, we can’t remember why we started the experiment, but it seemed like a good idea at the time.”
No photos tonight, but I took some shots today, I may put up later today. It is pouring here and the forecast is for it to rain off and on the rest of Sunday. Looks like I’ll be taking the camera out into the woods again.
I was so prepared for this ceremony you all would have been proud. Had my camera, charged the batteries so they’d be fresh. But found out as my son was walking up to get his diploma that I had forgotten to put the flash drive in the camera. So I had no pictures until after the graduation when we went to a small reception at the school. Drats.
I felt the same when my son graduated last year. Well, except I wasn’t quite yearning for the flunking — our situation was a wee bit more precarious than yours I think. Too touch and go for thinking about that, even in a joking way. But I was almost crying — I know it’s trite, but it really does go so quickly.
But you can’t tell young mothers that. I remember when I had four little kids under nine at home and I was deeply depressed and some older woman would tell me that it all passes so quickly and I’d be thinking “yeah, right lady, I’m just trying to make it through the day with my sanity intact and you’re telling me how fast it goes.”
You’re absolutely right. I was just thinking that after I hit post — it only seems quick in retrospect. To this day, I’m pretty sure those first three years took about a decade. I don’t know how you coped with four — you’re a strong woman.
That’s the only reason I let people take my picture now. I didn’t for about 15 years. All the pictures were of my kids and their father or just my kids. None of me.
Ooh, yuck. I didn’t know you could access the large version. Now I’m really bummed. But thanks that you think he looks like me – mostly he looks like his dad.
In the “Quick, Lock the Barn! – There went the horse” department…
Most ditcams have a setting on them somewhere that will lock the camera so that the shutter won’t work if there isn’t a memory card in the camera. This is a worthwhile setting to have; it’s saved MY butt more than once….
I just came in from outside. Big fuckin’ hail! Not meatballs, but big marble sized banging all over the house. I had to run out and bring my car in . . .jeez! It’s getting bigger and faller harder and thicker. This is amazing. Gotta go look on my porch. Sheesh! BANG!
We had one a few weeks ago and it was so weird — the sky had a funny, yellow light and there was also an incredible rainbow — I got so excited I ran outside with the camera like a fool, thinking I’d post a photo. All the pictures had water spots.
I think the hail overloaded my brain somehow. Afterwards, I could almost hear my gran’s voice calling me a damn fool who didn’t have the sense to come in from the rain. I’m just glad the camera wasn’t hurt! 🙂
Hi Olivia, I am sitting here eating rattatoui, however it is spelled, watching Toy Story on TV and thought I would drop into the cafe for a sec or two…what’s going on.
Oh very good with me and my garden is doing ok, lots of plants have passed away and been replaced by new ones, that are mostly doing ok…keeping finger crossed.
I guess you noticed I’ve been stealing and posting your pics on VB, they are just too beautiful to ignore.
How’s it going with you and how’s your weather. Ours is quite cool, june gloom once again.
I did see that you had one of my pix up the other day — I was surprised 🙂 It’s been really cool here the last few days … it’s 45F right now! I thought I’d need my winter coat today, but that’s just wrong to wear that in the summer.
How’s shirl doing? Haven’t seen her around BT lately.
Shirl is gone for the weekend right now, till Wed. and I have lost my phone chatting friend, which is making me a little pent up….lol
I have another of your pics up right now.
Are you making prints yet, you should, I think.
It was specific to the D70s so I learned about a couple buttons that I haven’t used yet. But it was very basic: we didn’t get into any manual settings (which I’m using and would have found helpful). All the other people in the course were coming from film SLR bkgrds, so that was interesting.
ROFL….what a great pic. Reminds me of when my cats were reextablishing dominance in a new place that had a pit bull. My runt cat (who was always bottom of the totem pole) stood down the pit bull and gained dominance for a short time. Cats are amazing creatures.
My day, thanks for asking Dada and O…it was relaxing. I had most of the day to myself, a bit cool and overcast, so I played a video game. :>)
this way. Still 10 – 15º above normal here and very dry. Open fires have already been banned in all the campgrounds and open space…could be a long summer if the monsoon doesn’t set in soon.
This is the dry season for us and we shouldn’t have any more rain for several months. But, a summer in the Bay Area is typically very cool, say 60-70 degrees all summer. When it gets to 80-85, we think the end of the world is coming. :>)
Sounds lovely. I’ve always liked Colorado, except for Coors and the heavy presence of the christian right. One of these days, I want to go camping in CO.
Yup…Twain nailed SF and you nailed Oakland, the other SF. :>)
but oh well, such is my life on a day when I decide to go slackerly. Lewis Black was only so-so on his HBO special tonight… good, but not as memorable as some others. We did like The Skeleton Key for what it was … a suspenser confection with lots of LA Hoodoo. Easy to read the formula, but it was fun doing it, so not a bad choice.
It wasn’t Super Troopers but it was fun, hehe. A fond good night to all those dearly retired ones from up thread, and hoping to see you all soon.
New clean cafe. Come on in and have a beer.
Why, thank you. Don’t mind if I do.
It’s raining pooties and pups here now.
Wish we were getting rain here. We do have the tropical depression, but I don’t think we’ll get any of that.
What are they going to name this one if it becomes a tropical storm?
So far all I’ve heard is Number 1. I saw where they were plotting its course and it looks like ya’ll may get some rain from it.
for doing so many cafes today. You’re a champ!
Group hug for Family Man! No tongues. 😉
🙂
Is that thing real?
I googled it … Oh, and I read your smoking comment down below and I have to agree w/ you … No tongues w/ smokers. It’s a rule. 🙂
I’m crushed … 😉
I just didn’t expect you to be…. so canine. 😛
But she sure is popular with the ladies, if you know what I mean.

How are you tonight? Did you take any pix at the party?

Bed is calling. Good night.
If maryb was here, she wouldn’t say “no tongues.” Oh, well. No use pining… (((group)))
But FM smokes. If he quits we can permit tongues. Unless you all smoke too and then I’ll just keep my tongue to myself. 🙂
It was no problem Andi and I’m always happy to help.
That’s a shame — is there thunder? (did I waltz into something earlier?)

What a gorgeous photo — you both look great! Congratulations!!
I want to cry! I half wished he flunked 12th grade so he had to stay home another year. 🙁

He’s very handsome! Gets it from his mom, obviously.
Definitely the sideburns.
That’s a great picture SN.
Well that’s a great picture that really conveys the love the two of you have for each other (much better than a formal portrait).
Too bad it looks like I have no hair. It was hot, what can I say – I put it back in a ponytail after 10 minutes in the sun.
I think you both look great. That just the kind of photo I would put in a frame.
Thanks, FM. I hate pics of myself.
Ok, tongues are permitted, but only for Olivia.
Trust me, those pics you hate of yourself, your children will be fighting over later on.
That’s the only reason I let people take my picture now. I didn’t for about 15 years. All the pictures were of my kids and their father or just my kids. None of me.
You’ve got a camera and tripod. Do you have a camcorder? You should be snapping pictures of yourself and recording yourself for posterity.
There’s no call for that — you look wonderful.
No it doesn’t — especially when you look at the large version (which also show how much he does look like you, especially the eyes and the smile).
Ooh, yuck. I didn’t know you could access the large version. Now I’m really bummed. But thanks that you think he looks like me – mostly he looks like his dad.

Might look for it.
Thanks I’ll check for that, especially since I have to use a card reader so I’m constantly taking it out.
Mine must be automatic, because it has told me a couple of times there was no card. Without a card it won’t do anything.
After I had taken 3 or 4 pictures it said ‘out of memory’…I was like WTF…I’ve got a 256mb card, how can it be out of mem…oops.
That was funny. TQLITBTGTH Department.
I just came in from outside. Big fuckin’ hail! Not meatballs, but big marble sized banging all over the house. I had to run out and bring my car in . . .jeez! It’s getting bigger and faller harder and thicker. This is amazing. Gotta go look on my porch. Sheesh! BANG!
Don’t get smacked in the head, kansas.
It’s still going on. I’ve never been in a hail storm this big or one that lasted this long before. Now it’s finally dying down.
Well, that was exciting. I’m sure glad my animals are all inside. Cats with concussions. Not good!
When I went out to get my car I had to cover my head with the lid to my trash pail and it had just barely started then.
We had one a few weeks ago and it was so weird — the sky had a funny, yellow light and there was also an incredible rainbow — I got so excited I ran outside with the camera like a fool, thinking I’d post a photo. All the pictures had water spots.
That’s sad. 🙁
And funny. 🙂
I think the hail overloaded my brain somehow. Afterwards, I could almost hear my gran’s voice calling me a damn fool who didn’t have the sense to come in from the rain. I’m just glad the camera wasn’t hurt! 🙂
and tend to forget about the damage they can do until they are over (like the time the tree fell on our van).
So hope you just get the excitement and none of the destruction.
It is just now really over. How do birds survive these things, I wonder.
Well good night everyone. It’s way past my bedtime, and I had a hard day on that riding lawnmower. 🙁
Everyone have a good night in the pond.
Goodnight, FM — thanks for all the cafes today. Sleep well!
It is way past my bedtime.
Hmm. Just a coincidence, I assure you.
Goodnight, SN, and congratulations again. Sweet dreams!
with SN close behind. Now I’m off, too. Such easy work for fertile imaginations.
Good night all.
Hi Olivia, I am sitting here eating rattatoui, however it is spelled, watching Toy Story on TV and thought I would drop into the cafe for a sec or two…what’s going on.
It’s quiet now after a flurry of posts. All the early birds have gone off to bed … 🙂 How are things w/ you and your garden?
Oh very good with me and my garden is doing ok, lots of plants have passed away and been replaced by new ones, that are mostly doing ok…keeping finger crossed.
I guess you noticed I’ve been stealing and posting your pics on VB, they are just too beautiful to ignore.

… with a few of the plants.

I can see how you’d be missing her. 🙂
I just went and had a look at VB, and that one is from Second Nature. She’s posted some really great shots last week and this was one of them.
I’m in the process of printing a couple poster size for a friend. We’ll see how it turns out I suppose. 🙂
Night, everybody.
Everybody crashed early tonight, eh?
You two the only ones left standing?
I was wondering if it was worth sticking around … glad I did now. 🙂
How was your day?
Saw the Oilers averted a shut-out so I imagine you’re pleased w/ that…think they can take 2 at home and make a series out of it?
Had the intro photocourse, ran a few errands … nothing strenuous. Chilly here today though.
Re: Ed … not sure … maybe. They came out strong, but fizzled a bit and then at the end got a lucky bounce. We’ll see I suppose.
How ’bout you? What exciting things did you and Bu get up to today?
Learn a bunch of good stuff…or at least helpful stuff?
Very lazy here today. Slept till 10 and just did the minimum required; FM woulda been proud.
It was specific to the D70s so I learned about a couple buttons that I haven’t used yet. But it was very basic: we didn’t get into any manual settings (which I’m using and would have found helpful). All the other people in the course were coming from film SLR bkgrds, so that was interesting.
Figures, I thought I got in a bit early for A Sat. and everybody left! ;>)
Anyone still minding the homestead?
It’s that quiet time between the east coast early birds and the west coast party-ers. 😉 How was you day today?
Tabby cat terror for black bear.
How ya doin’ tonight K?

I can’t recall where you are, Dada. Colorado?

Yep, foothills @ 30 mi NW of Denver.
Wasn’t it Mark Twain that said: the coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco…you’re in Oakland IMS
Sounds lovely. I’ve always liked Colorado, except for Coors and the heavy presence of the christian right. One of these days, I want to go camping in CO.
Yup…Twain nailed SF and you nailed Oakland, the other SF. :>)
Look at that tiny bit of orange sitting there.
See ya …
I’m ’bout done myself.
Catch yawl on the flip.
Night
Peace
Gone? Just like that? Before I’ve even begun to yap? This is a cruel fate indeed.
but oh well, such is my life on a day when I decide to go slackerly. Lewis Black was only so-so on his HBO special tonight… good, but not as memorable as some others.
