My thoughts on YearlyKos

First off, I would like to say thanks to all the people whose work went in to making the YearlyKos such a success.

When I looked out at the audience at YearlyKos, I could see that this wasn’t just the youth of our country who were in attendance, as some might think.  This was and is who America is – people from all walks of life and of all ages.
I firmly believe that the best campaigns are grassroots campaigns, because that is fundamentally what democracy is about – bringing people together to work for a common cause.  And that is the vision that my campaign is based on – that our country is at its best when everyone works together to achieve a common good… and when everyone contributes and everyone benefits.

Our campaign is based on the support of thousands of grassroots supporters.  We recently topped 1,000 volunteers, and we’re still growing.  That’s why I always call this campaign “our” campaign – because it is our campaign.

For me, that’s what is so important about blogs – they allow us to bring people together.  Blogging is a means of connection – but unlike the radio, the newspaper, and the TV, blogging is not a one-way medium for communication.  Rather, it allows for a dynamic exchange of ideas – an exchange that is the engine of our democracy.

We’ve yet to truly see just what blogging might portend for the future – anyone who thinks its power has already been tapped is clearly missing the point.

For those of you who haven’t already done so, I’d ask that you go and vote in the DFA online election… and I hope you’ll consider voting for me.  National Journal’s Hotline recently upgraded our race to #16 in the nation!  However, it’s your support that will make this campaign a success.  Please help us, by voting today!

Thanks again for all the support you have already given our campaign.

Warmly,
Joe Sestak
