Native grasses against sky
larger
about you, but I could use a drink or four.
Oh Manny….I just saw this. Thank you so much. I am really touched.
And to think I actually made it to 40…I can see 50 is just around the corner and I plan on seeing it! :>)
I remember 40 and it was fun. Fell flat on my face in front of a bar where a bartender had plied me with way too many free Wild Turkey Rare Breed shots. As much as I would have liked to forget all that I remember it oh so well, lol!
Sounds like yours was much more civilized, Kamakhya! Here’s to many more!
ya got that machine lit yet?
I hope it doesn’t catch your native grasses on fire, unless it happens to be some of the…ahem…good stuff O:-)
N CA.
No it`s not.
Btw: Notice that the turkey`s done.

Since that “brand” is unknown to me, I done did a google, and found;
btw I ain’t forgot the ocean/world website, just have to get around to it.
How was you day today w/ your parents?
we haven’t had a day like this in many years. We took a drive up to Summerhaven, which is at 8000 elevation on Mount Lemmon overlooking Tucson. There was a 40 degree difference in temp. We caught the tail end of a parade (chock-full of liberal peace activists, woohoo!). Then we made our way back down the mountain, watched Superman, ate at one of the best Mexican restaurants in town, then watched the fireworks in downtown. Now I’m sitting on my porch listening to the steady rain of the monsoon.
How was your day, o and NDD?
my day and see comments below for links to a couple of interesting articles.
Not mine … π
hmmm, seems you were part of that conversation…
ya got a link then or should I practice my “fishing” technique?
Wow Manny, that sounds damn near perfect! Except for the lack of fireworks, that is… but sitting on the porch listening to rain is high up on my savored moments list of things to do!
I’m glad you had a good day.
My day doesn’t compare — I spent the day in cubihell … π
If you recall the pic I posted this afternoon … several hours later it looks like this:
The annual corner happening happened again this year … as neighbors from around the block gather with their ammunition and light up, smoke up and louden the skies in our humble corner of the world. This has, since we’ve lived here almost 8 years, been one day where almost the entire block blows stuff up. It’s fun, and we’re never quite sure from one year to the next what it will be like…
Lots of flashes, my ears still hurt a bit, and nary a cop came by <whew> …
How’s the rest of youse guys doing? NDD, ManEE? Have a bang up day?
I feel like we haven’t chatted in years! I guess in bloglandia, it has been, but hello!. That picture and image of your neighborhood crack me up, I bet we could have a decent gambling operation going on here to see who could choose correctly which law enforcement agency would show up first: Tucson Police, Pima County Sheriffs, Border Patrol, Univ. of Az PD, or any other lurking officers.
Yeah, know what you mean, but I’ve been kind of scarce lately due to insane work crap and a case of the blues all around, but it’s on the upswing I hope!
I of course as always stressed about the whole day since I’m the grill meister for all these people who show up from where C works… I expect 3 and get 7, that kind of thing… but it always works out ok. Everyone has a good time, folks who ordinarily don’t talk to each other much all share a common moment through fireworks. Weird. But we like it. I figure those Chinese had to be on to something with all that a few thousand years ago… we just haven’t really caught up.
Olivia’s still stumped on this one, maybe you can help her out?
but at this point stumped… leaves make me think it’s tropical in nature, and not knowing where this was growing it’s hard to even theorize. If we come up with it, will let ya know… (could be minutes, could be never, lol).
also has beige colored berries. Some sort of wild bush I’d guess that’s a native here.
Well for the moment we’re still stumped. C couldn’t find anything in his field guide to native stuff, but at least knowing it’s a bush that grows up in ND helps narrow it a bit. If we have any blasts of inspiration or revelation, we’ll let ya know though!
You’re not talking about the flower buds right?
lets say, off-white then, or “ivory” coloured might work.
the berries are about pea sized.
right, the berries are not the buds. They were father down on the branch, I’d guess from where there’d been a blossom earlier this summer.
I’d better go back tomorrow and take a photo of the berries too.
Mystery to me/us too… I’m almost wondering if it is some kind of nightshade, depending on the berries that develop … there’s so damn many of them though, and I can’t begin to know them all.
Sorry you had to be in cubihell today, O … I was there yesterday and hating every minute, even though they did buy us lunch and let us go at 2:00… still … grrr….
I’m all better now, I think?
I’m getting frustrated … π
I’m happy to hear that you’re better, but I’m not sure I believe you when you use the ‘?’ at the end! lol π
Is this lingering FCH? I hope not. And I too question the question mark, but I’ll take it day by day for now. At least today was mostly pleasant, except for poor Rolly and his total terror of anything that sparks… so he spent most of the night indoors hiding. But he and Pepa each got their dinner, a hot dog from the grill, biscuits and eventually a cold cup of Frosty Paws so they ended the evening contented!
Sometimes moment by moment … (I’m trying not to gush over you btw … but I’m very happy to see you π
I’m frustrated right now w/ NDD and his blasted flower lol! But yeah, lingering FCH … finished going over my notes w/ the manager today BUT there will be another one in Aug and I might be called on to do it again … <sob>
trying to unfrustrate you guys, and I can’t find anything either. And I know I’ve seen these before, too. And I know they’re not edible for humans or I’d already know what they are.
LOL … It may not be tonight, but we’ll figure it out! I won’t let us be bested by a wild bush … π
I’m trying to be “philosophical” about it too, but what can you do? Yeah, that damn NDD and his mystery plants … I keep thinking some kind of nightshade but the blooms are the wrong shade to my mind. I’m betting though… it’s one of those plants your mom always said, don’t eat that, it will kill you! Like the common nightshade vine we have around here that produces those cute little red berries even birds won’t eat.
I have to admit though, those blooms are very pretty up close!
Oh, one cool thing that happened to me today at the grocery store… I ran into the editor of Meredith’s Perennials magazine … I’ve sort of known him for the last few years since he noticed our garden a while back when he moved here… I’m trying to push more talk with him, since he did mention a year or so ago thinking I might fit there… I’m still hoping… but at least another opening… I’d been meaning to email him that we could give him Sea Holly and he’s very interested, now that he has a garden. Anyway, think positive thoughts along those lines for me when you think of it. π
That’s not just cool — that’s supercool!
If I could transition into working in that area, I would be soooo happy. Ok I can say it here with you as my witness, I absolutely loathe what I do now. In case it didn’t show. I feel dirty working in market research, figuring out ways to better sell crap to people, and with so much of my efforts spent on pharma stuff… well, I just feel dirty. Constant Gardener really hit me in the gut on that one.
But on a lighter note… we thoroughly enjoyed watching The Corpse Bride again last night on the new system… it was awesome! hehe
index of plants
As per work situations and domestic situation unhealthy to body and mind, I’d say the biggest mistakes I’ve had in my life was not bailing on a few of them sooner. Lots of wasted years spinning the wheels in the mud, so to speak. And one living situation damn near killed me off due to mold and sinus chest congestion.
I’d say bail at the earliest opportunity. And sometimes one just has to make the opportunity happen.
I will say I’ve been concerned when you’re missing IVG. Be sure to remember to take care of yourself!
See IVG … I told ya we were all missing you … π
It’s too late now, you’re stuck w/ us loons.
here
Left a good night a couple comments below. I’ve given up on the mystery plant for the night … but we’ll figure it out! π
Now don’t ya be lying awake trying to figure out the mystery!!!
Don’t worry about me, NDD… I’m around for the long haul! Whether I like it or not, lol! It’s the work that is still creeping me out mostly. I’m paid well for what I do and it keeps us afloat financially, so I’m kind of stuck unless something better comes along. C makes a pittance where he works, so it’s kind of on me to make up the difference… anyway!
We Leos are stubborn asses…
Now you need to develop the next steps … Put some thought into how you might actualize here … maybe put together sample article(s) etc. You can do it!
Oh, and stop by my b for some nice flowers before you go off to bed.
keeps freezing on me and I had to log off and back on to get here… I will do that b4 bed, Olivia dearest… and btw, those alstroemerias really made me smile… I love those things! Just wish they were hardy here!
So the virtual bouquet thing worked then … LOL.
I think I better get to bed! It’s almost 4am here and I have to get up at 7! Ack! Do you have to work today? If so, I’ll be thinking of you … lots of chocolate helps, so keep your drawer stocked IVG.
Good night IVG, NDD, and knuckle … and any other lurking froggies. Sweet dreams … π
When do you sleep anyway????????
Yes I am, pink aside. Yep, I have to get to bed too, but C insisted that I give a fireworks update to the BT crowd. Yeah, like he’d do that … I’ve got chocolate stored up to get me through… and you too!
Thx for being my friends, folks… it means a helluva lot to me.
Good night, dada, wherever you and Bu are… π
in case you felt forgotten… however that could ever happen here, I don’t know. Ouch. It’s way past bedtime for this bonzo. See you both on dada’s flip side, wherever that is…………………
Wow…what a wonderful evening. I am just so gosh darn happy! (the wine has nothing to do with it.) :>)
I watched the local fireworks off a high buiding on a hill…and I can still hear them going off all around here. I just love the sound. It always sounds like pleasure to me.
You’re here … {{{K}}} and excellent on your wonderful evening. π
I was remembering a story tonight of my 18th b-day. My best friend (with whom I am still extremely close) held a party for me on his roof too. He lugged up plants, and flowers and blankets, and pillows and a cooler and all kids of seriously nice things and built me an oasis in the middle of downtown, all through a tiny hole in the ceiling. He gave me a top of the line bong for my present. It was an absolute day in paradise with my favorite people. It was a lot like this year, but just a wee bit more ornate. Urban rooftops can just be so darn ambiant! :>)
And wonderful to still be close with old friends!!
And just in case you missed my birthday greetings earlier they’re here
I didn’t miss them and thank you. It was a great day thanks to some some good friends.
I hope you had a good holiday too!
The fireworks were impressive in downtown Tucson, they were a good half-hour strong. Not even five minutes after they ended a nasty monsoon blew through, so now I’m enjoying that change of mood. I love rain. Glad to hear you are having a great bday! 48 minutes left of partying to go
Olivia claims she told a story and I missed it. You recall any story she told concerning a nursing home?
a small town in N CA. Thousand of $ worth of fireworks going up into a dense fog. All we saw was dull glow ball where then went off. Very strange! But it was close to the ocean so there was always fog every night all summer long. So I suppose no point in waiting till another day.
Monsoon Rain = Good
Lightning = Bad
Gotta sign off, I’ll check back in later if it lets up, otherwise have a fantastic night Cafe amigos.
this is Tucson weather right now.
since everything is getting sucked into a black hole between Tucson and Tombstone.
Um, for the amateurwannabemeteorologist I am, you’re smart to shut down and unplug for the duration Manny! Haven’t seen anything that impressive come through here in quite some time, though we did get a nice shower Monday night…
See you when the skies improve!
Egads Manny. Wish you were here. Nice, if a bit cool and the fireworks sounds are still everywhere.
Though, I must admit, I miss a good thunderstorm.
Night all. I would love to stay, but I am just tuckered. See y’all another evening.
I’ve been playing with photoshop and imageshack. I like this version better than the last one. Antartica ho!
