I should tell you my only shoe story. Maybe it will cheer you up a bit. Once upon a time many years ago, I walked into a book store in Winnetka, Il. I was wearing red plaid high heels. Well, sure, I mean, who doesn’t? The store’s carpet was the exact same plaid! I mean, identical. Based solely on the fact that my feet instantly disappeared into her carpet, and that it was her family’s Scottish plaid, that store owner and I became lifelong friends.
You know, I still have those shoes. If I can get katiebird to take a photo, I’ll post them for you one day and I promise you will love them. I only wish I could still wear them.
Actually, it does sound like fun — I love to paint. Is it a cool color at least?
I LOVE that shoe story! Yes, please get katie to take a photo — maybe they’re my family tartan! I don’t think I’ve ever seen tartan high heels, but I’d totally wear them. You’ve cheered me immensely!
Tartan! That’s what I should call them. “Oh, yes, these old things? They’re my tartans, doncha know.” I’ll really try to get that photo, but I may save it for some other time when you’re ragged. 🙂 Since we knooow they have healing powers.
The colors are not cool like tartan–a tartan wall!!–but they’ll be a good backdrop for pickshures that do have cool colors.
I could use some help painting here in NY. I don’t have much to offer as inducement except our beautiuful Hudson Valley scenery. Of course, I haven’t been able to get FM to come and help me with my lawn.
I’m just a little tired and ragged, but I’m fine. We went to dinner and a movie last night — Da Vinci Code, which I thought was fun — so I’m a bit physically off from that, but should be fine tomorrow. But I’m really quite sleepy — someone in the nieghborhood set off fireworks until 3am.
OMG — that hair! Believe it or not, there was such an uproar against it that the stylist from the movie wrote a small column in Entertainment Weekly defending it. Bottom line? There was no good reason. The stylist thought it looked cool and sort of academic. He’s obviously never been to college. Well, maybe beauty college, but you know what I mean.
I thought the movie was good except it really slowed at the end. Somehow seeing it on film was a bit more hokey than reading it. Still, we really enjoyed it.
I thought maybe they wanted to make him look bad to explain why he couldn’t sleep with her. Not that she was the direct descendent of MM and Jesus — no. Because he had such awful hair.
I thought it was slow toward the end too. But I didn’t hate it — I liked it better than the book but that’s not saying much. I think I can forgive predictable movies more than I can forgive predictable books.
I enjoyed the book, too, but I’m a sucker for good pacing. If a book really roars along, I’m very forgiving of the plot and don’t really start becoming disatisfied until afterwards.
No, you musta been there. Probably those drugs you were talkin’ about just, umm, momentarily clouded your memory. Yeah, that’s it, clouded your memory.
I really liked BostonJoe’s diary today. He was able to put into words what happens before and during in one’s mind.
I’ve sat in the car waiting for some rough and tough group to move along before I get my swag out and stuff. Pre-emptive searching of faces for the one that’s going to get all crazy on you.
I think the hardest part of all is kissing Wayne and the kids before I head out the door. And lately… it’s been alot more weird out there. People are angry and pissed off.
I swear, he gets me so worked up with the “know your exits”, “keep alert”, “whatever you do: don’t run- walk” that it’s a wonder i leave the house to go to the market! 😀
He’s been trained in crowd control, martial law and all that horsecrap. Gotta remember… an oldie vet dude is trying to deal with me. I think he’s more scared tham I am sometimes.
He and my friend were like flipping out at the thought of my “idea” to go lay in the street at Ft. Lewis.
which would be cool. You can easily tell by the shape of the back of their tails when they fly…crows have squared off straight ones, ravens are curved…R’s are generally quite a bit larger as well.
I’ve had some magical moments with one in particular, Dada… it wasn’t hurt but walked around my feet till I picked it up. Hung out for DAYS. Wouldn’t let anyone else near it. CAWWWED at me. It swooped down and grabbed my hair. Just hung out. I could hold it in my arms like a babe.
I have this “thing” with Raven/Crows. Not ALL the time just once and awhile. They let me know they’re around, believe you me. They almost sound like they’re laughing. Ruck Ruck Ruck Ruck, type sound.
I think the first few times they were scary because they were the first…
Now the latest ones have been scary due to the extremeness and militarization of them.
I did though enjoy the bridge vigil… but I was a bit worried about that due to my fear of getting dizzy like that. While I was on it I was screaming and whooting with cheers. And it turned out to be really fun.
You’d rather we focused on the “what” instead of the “who,” but I’ve got to tell you that sometimes it’s nearly impossible not to tell you I think you’re a saint.
More of a hell-raiser. Just trudging along with some great folks and if I keep my ears and eyes open I come away from these protests with more than earaches and sunburns. 🙂
But thank you.
I have to tell you a silly. We used our bookshelf for the DVDs and just now getting to the boxes of books. We have SO many books… But we had the few books we got while first living here. So those got put on a small stack by the fireplace.
Stop the next war
RKK Jrs autographed Crimes Against Nature (my brother got that for me)
Where Mountains have no name
Bob Dylan’s Biography
Wicked
and…
Bum Steer an autographed HB and it has such a fitting intro line. “Yes, there really is a KANSAS” 🙂 There sure is!
I have to get more of the Jennie Cains cuz’ I’m hooked, and I didn’t think I would be cause I’ve torn through so many detective series and I thought I was burnt out. 🙂
Also… I have HAVE HAVVVVEE to get BostonJoe’s book soon.
(((Izzy)) I know what you mean 🙂 I got all tingly in Powells when I found it. They had a bunch of other ones, too. But not the first. I always try to go for the first… but ended up somewhere in the middle I think because it was the only hardback and the introduction LEAPED out at me because I knew her as “Kansas”.
BTW, I think that stack of books is going to stay like that in the living room forever. It’s like our precious books stack or something.
I’ve been so impressed over the last month with your ability to remain focused on what you’re doing and what you know to be important. And not get drawn into, and sidetracked by, all the issues that get argued to death around here and in the Real World.
Thanks. I’m surrounded by some really good people here in Portland area.
I mean… BOHICA for goshsakes… he’s the local Veteran For Peace dude. All these Portland VFP guys are GREAT. They even make sure you understand the bus system and make sure you get home safely. You meet them once and they’re like instant family: Just add peace.
They even make sure you understand the bus system and make sure you get home safely.
I’m always a big fan of people who (a) are action oriented and (b) are practical. I mean, what good does it do to have a plan if nobody can figure out how to get there?
One night the VFP had done a Friday march (how I learend about the Friday marches) and I was just getting out of the radio studio and Katie dropped me off in Pioneer Sq. My train had been hit and one of the VFPers who I just met that night (cause I was asking where BOHICA was) stayed around and at first we were going to take a bus but then the trains started to roll after 20 mins.
His name is Malcolm and every time I see him, I make sure to hug him tight. In fact, when I got off the train that night I gave him a kiss on the cheek.
Maybe we can meet up somewhere along the line-I’m usually going to some of the same events; I’m often somewhere around the Buddhist Peace Fellowship folks if they’re at the thing although I’m not a member. Missed the funeral for the Constitution at the Japanese/American park yesterday (and I have a homemade Staue of Liberty costume I could have worn)-wish I’d taken today off work. As it was, the neighbors were so noisy I didn’t sleep anyway. I’ve got to sleep now or my head’s gonna explode so will try to catch up with you and y’all later.
Exit 119 to be exact. Hey…. you’re not that far away!!!
Psst when my brother gets in town, he’s moving back to Seattle… he wants to take me to the new Seattle library. He’s says I will lose my everloving mind. Like it was built for my sense of…. craziness. Maybe we can make a picnic library day and meet you and Omir?
yeah he was here a few weeks ago with his girlfriend for just 2 days. In and out. So I didn’t get to see him. He’s trying to get her to like Seattle… she’s from Boston. Anyways.. he says it’s super cool art and archiet… building.

Somebody does have to, or else I would feel very small. If it weren’t for me feeling bad for myself, I’d be lost in a sea of people who don’t care about my bullshit.
Pshaw! Clearly you do feel sorry for me and you don’t care about my bullshit. Take a minute and get yourself clear on what you think, because we all know, even before you write it.
even before I write it? I had no idea the people here at BT were psychic.
I’m going to go over to the new cafe, but I’m thinking maybe I won’t waste any time writing anything since everyone already knows what I’m gonna write anyway. 🙂
Exactly. We knew this. We knew you left before you knew you would. Or maybe I’ve just had too much fresh fruit tonight. I can never get myself clear on these points.
I wasn’t able to hear the radio station that one night I had dinner guests over. I felt awful and then I kinda spaced chatting with you about it… so many other things to talk about I guess… Anyways, the food was great… but the kids coulda been better. Their little guy is autistic and had me… HOPPING. We even tried to use the computer to get him interested in soemthing but to no avail.
Sorry!!! I am going to hear your gig soon. (stamps foot in stubborness) Gonna! Gonna! Gonna! 🙂
I felt I shouldn’t commit to the hosting. I think I’ll be here, but I’m feeling a bit rough around the edges.
I’m sure he’d be advising you that there’s no naptime like the present.
Would sandpaper help? I’ve been painting walls, and I have extra.
I hope you feel lots smoother soon, Izzy. I prescribe shoes.
Thanks, kansas, I’m pretty sure shoes would help, if only I had the energy to go looking…
So watcha painting?
Basement walls. Fun, huh?
I should tell you my only shoe story. Maybe it will cheer you up a bit. Once upon a time many years ago, I walked into a book store in Winnetka, Il. I was wearing red plaid high heels. My gran’s whole family was Scottish. If they thought you were telling a whopping lie, they’d say “God forgive your tartan eyeballs.”
That’s one I’ve never heard before.
Me and my tartan shoes are off to bed.
Sweet dreams, everybody. Be well, Iz.
Thanks, kansas — sleep well and sweet dreams.
I could use some help painting here in NY. I don’t have much to offer as inducement except our beautiuful Hudson Valley scenery. Of course, I haven’t been able to get FM to come and help me with my lawn.
I’m betting your view beats mine.
Good night Frog Ponders. The young one here has to get his rest for another day of work.
Tell Mary I said hi. 😛
that it’s time for the geezer to leave as well.
Good night all.
G’night Psi and Andi — hope you sleep well.
I’m off to eat dinner.
Young people today … When I was his age I could stay up all night AND still get to work on time 😉
AND we could do it all on drugs! Wait, is that an attribute?
right!
but it was nice he was thinking about me 🙂
How are you Izzy? Do I see you aren’t feeling well? Stomach? Head? General?
I’m just a little tired and ragged, but I’m fine. We went to dinner and a movie last night — Da Vinci Code, which I thought was fun — so I’m a bit physically off from that, but should be fine tomorrow. But I’m really quite sleepy — someone in the nieghborhood set off fireworks until 3am.
When you were Psi’s age you would have been shooting the fireworks off until 4 in the morning 🙂
Didn’t Tom Hanks look horrible? What was WITH his hair?
OMG — that hair! Believe it or not, there was such an uproar against it that the stylist from the movie wrote a small column in Entertainment Weekly defending it. Bottom line? There was no good reason. The stylist thought it looked cool and sort of academic. He’s obviously never been to college. Well, maybe beauty college, but you know what I mean.

You were his age? 😉
Hey I thought you were my friend? Of course I was his age. Once. A long time ago.
What age are we talkin’? I might’ve skipped it.
No, you musta been there. Probably those drugs you were talkin’ about just, umm, momentarily clouded your memory. Yeah, that’s it, clouded your memory.
Weren’t we all. But I’m still your friend. 😉
OK 🙂
Well, it’s off to bed for me too. Us codgers need our beautysleep. See ya all!
I was worried I might find Julia fucking Child next!!! 🙂
Hi, DJ. I have a question for you. As you do more public protesting, is it getting any less scary, or do you feel the same trepidation every time?
HEy Kansas 🙂
I think every time I’m a big ole scary poo. I know I’m such a wuss 🙂
You are the least wuss I know. There are none so brave as those who do something in spite of being scaredy-poos!
I really liked BostonJoe’s diary today. He was able to put into words what happens before and during in one’s mind.

I think the hardest part of all is kissing Wayne and the kids before I head out the door. And lately… it’s been alot more weird out there. People are angry and pissed off.
as I recall from my experience in the last anti-war go ’round a few decades back.
If you can keep that one in check, which you seem to be doing fine so far, then you’ll continue to do well maintaining peace of mind.
FRom your post to Mr. Damnit’s eyeballs 🙂
Lewis.
“feathered friend” and follow your instincts as what he has to say, as an escape plan will likely come in an instinctual form.
Send me an email if you’ve got any new tales! I know I’ve got one I should work on and send you.
You know.. the whole laying out in the street by myself… just didn’t seem right. I was trying to force even the time on that one, too.
I laid awake feeling my body shake… My friend called me in tears saying she had lost her mother and she didn’t want to lose me, too.
It was bad mojo.
I did what comes best. I stood with CodePink and Veterans for Peace on the regular day.
I would love for you to email me your thoughts and tales.
No worries or hurries. I’m about two blinks away from vegging out on the couch with the kidlets.
But we do have a few black birds, crows I think, that swing by the back garden. 🙂 I have never been so happy to see birds in a garden before.
which would be cool. You can easily tell by the shape of the back of their tails when they fly…crows have squared off straight ones, ravens are curved…R’s are generally quite a bit larger as well.

Wonderful.

you both got me tearing up so much I’m getting a runny nose.

no tears! You deserve the compliments.

How is everyone tonight?
Izzy, I hope you get to feeling better.
Thanks, Omir — dinner seems to have helped a bit.
It often does. I usually find that taking a nice warm shower helps too, but I suppose it depends on what ails ya.
That would be great. I need to get my pink butt back into the Friday No War Drum Corps/PPRC march. Maybe then?
We have another Portlander poster who comes in here a few times.
DJ, email me if you’re ever up in the Seattle area. Were you just in Tacoma recently?
Exit 119 to be exact. Hey…. you’re not that far away!!!
Psst when my brother gets in town, he’s moving back to Seattle… he wants to take me to the new Seattle library. He’s says I will lose my everloving mind. Like it was built for my sense of…. craziness. Maybe we can make a picnic library day and meet you and Omir?
That sounds wonderful! I haven’t seen the new library yet — supposedly it’s really cool. Feel free to email me any time and we can work something out.
Groovus Maximus! 🙂
yeah he was here a few weeks ago with his girlfriend for just 2 days. In and out. So I didn’t get to see him. He’s trying to get her to like Seattle… she’s from Boston. Anyways.. he says it’s super cool art and archiet… building.
How are you tonight?
Didn’t mean to leave you off the list — never sure who is here and who isn’t …. 🙂
I’m good. How ’bout you?
A bit tired, but fine. We’re having a really cool day today — I’m so glad the heat has broken!
in the lower back I’m doing fine. I ended the day with a nice walk in the local park.
Ms NDD finished an online final! hallelooya! Internet died in the middle of it, but we didn’t lose any data, and managed to get back into the school system again to wrap it up later.
So wheeeeuuuuwww!!! Lucked out on that one!
got you a “berries” photo
I’m PWPOMK
that’s posting while pissing off my kids. 🙂
Are they po b/c you’re posting?
I saw your lovely flowers in another (previous) cafe … 🙂
Nope. I’m ‘evil’ for making my son make his own bed by himself because I know he can do it and he’s tossing me the “autism card”. I’m not taking it.
My daughter was a bit miffed that before she became a tator tot to her Dad’s couch potato, that she help me put away the raspberries.
Evil! I’m pure EVIL, I tell ya.
Thanks my camera wasn’t charged but it had enough juice but very low picture frame thingy so I just pointed and shot.
Did you freeze the raspberrties like SN suggested?
Well sorta.
We got kinda sloppy towards the end. We figured. We’re gonna blenderize them in margies or smoothies so it doesn’t really matter about the individual… plus I have a side by side and I didn’t have a cookie sheet or platter that would fit in or… enough of them. So they’re one big magenta ice cube. 😀
Correction: They’re about 10 baggies of one cup each frozen magenta ice cubes. 🙂
“Tator tot to couch potato”. . .lol!
How’s the weather up north? It finally cooled off here a little bit.
highs of 85-95 through to weekend, but the lows of 58-65 will help a lot. We got AC here in the city but none in the country, so if the low only drops to 70F, hard to get a house cooled down at night. So no complaints as long as hum stays around 40% during the day.
The whole state is getting very dry. Someone said there were no July 4th fireworks in the Bismarck area due to fire hazard level. Also they said no charcoal cooking either. Gotta be bad before they outlaw that on the 4th.
classes does Mrs. NDD have to take, now that she’s finished the current one?
10 credits starting this Fall Semester with finish date Dec sometime. 10 credits plus full time work, but she’ll do fine, however, I may need ____ (fill in the blank according to your proclivities, ya know like Valium, herbs, etc.)
logging in to your classes here at BooMan University. It will keep you occupied and is better for you than valium 🙂
you got a goot idea dare den.
Cheaper too!
Yo O, NDD, DJ, Izzy, Maryb…who’d I leave out?
Hey there Mr. Cool! How’s things jumping?
must be a high wind from the left, as he doesn’t seem to be making much progress.
He’s a great visual for the lack of progress on my laundry pile around here though 🙂
as we like to say…you still in town or back at the homestead now?
nice to get here while you’re still up…been missing a lot of folks lately.
get to bed earlier. But it just doesn’t come naturally to me.
On the other hand, you must be showing up much later than you used to if you keep missing me.
morphed into some time zone quite a ways west of me…I need to get it back to some semblance of normal.
I’ve had the particular virus since circa 11/4/04
I’m always left out. Boo Hoo. I feel so sorry for myself.
I feel so sorry for myself.
I guess somebody has to …
Somebody does have to, or else I would feel very small. If it weren’t for me feeling bad for myself, I’d be lost in a sea of people who don’t care about my bullshit.
I care about your bullshit. I just don’t feel sorry for you. 🙂
Wow! I’ve got to borrow that line from you Mary. There are so many times that I could have used that instead of the lame things I have said instead. 🙂
Pshaw! Clearly you do feel sorry for me and you don’t care about my bullshit. Take a minute and get yourself clear on what you think, because we all know, even before you write it.
even before I write it? I had no idea the people here at BT were psychic.

Exactly. We knew this. We knew you left before you knew you would. Or maybe I’ve just had too much fresh fruit tonight. I can never get myself clear on these points.
Come on and hang out w/ us here … forget the front page! 😉
I forgot the front page ages ago.
HA!!! that’s cute! I like the one on the top R looking down at everyone. Hey there!!! 🙂
I’m a sucker for Pandas and monkeys. Yet my daughter likes worms, salamanders and lizards… go figger.
Good to see you jumping into the pond tonight. 🙂
Gonna! Gonna! 🙂
It’s not my type of building, but it would be interesting to see.
That meets earthquake codes?
It must… right? I dunno — there are some crazy buildings in this town. Some of them make me a bit nervous.
the Space Needle!!!!! I hated that thing since I was a …. well a fetus!
I’ve been in it twice and each time I thought I was gonna vomit.
for when you come to visit me in St. Louis. I won’t take you up in the Arch. 🙂
