What choo doing to stay cool? It’s AC, extra fans, iced tea, and reading in a cool corner of the house for me.
I’m splitting my time between the office and the basement. Andrew is napping right now.
Hi Toni. Hope you’re doing OK and keep the cutest baby on the blogs cool.
Central a/c at work, yippee!
Thank god I’m at work … w/ ac!
90F, 108 w/ humidity!
It’s 98F, but heat index is 101F. I thought it was going to get hot here today.
You mean we’re hotter than you! I can’t wait to rub this in for all eternity … š
We have plenty of heat down here, but we just wanted to share some with ya’ll. Show you what you’re missing. š
Now this winter if you could send some snow down this way, we would appreciate it.
Just remember, people who live in igloos shouldn’t have central heat.
Another one of those don’t ask because I don’t know what it means. š
If I lived in a igloo, this is what it would look like today …
I was just leaving to run downtown, but I had to say that igloo must have had central heating. š
See ya.
I’m near Portland, Oregon. Like not even 9 miles away. Which is near the Columbia Gorge and the Ocean isn’t too far away. I’m new here so not to sure what the “norm” is, but I’m from the Northwest and I rarely saw 100 days. F/S/Su are to be 100 days here.
Right now it’s around 80.
I’m going to sit in a HOT roller hockey rink that smells of decades of sweat and hairy nuts. Then I’ll come home and take a cool shower.
My kids aren’t out riding their bew bikes. Too “HOT”.
I was just reading last night that entire native villages in the “refuge” aka ANWR have been flooded… for severals years.
By 2010 there will be no more glaciers. Totally freaking here. I decided I can’t read that book at night. “Where mountains are nameless”
such a cute dog?
Hot still air means nice reflections, though.
Wonderful reflections Andi. If the heat keeps going as is, I’m wondering if you’ll have a dry creek bed.
Oh these creeks dry out regularly since they are runoff fed, not spring fed.
So before they dry out you got mud?
I see the making of something wonderful here Andi. š
Ah mud. Cheap dirty fun. š
there’s very little mude the creek bottoms are almost all either rock or gravel. We’ve got some nice seeps that are really muddy, though.
I like the bottom one the most b/c the reflection captures more of the leaves and the colour is wonderful. That and the little ripples and shaft of sunlight (I think) … š
I like the bottom one better too but I was impressed with the clarity of the reflection in the top one — the water here is almost never still enough to produce such a sharp reflection.
(There I go again …:)
That is a very crisp reflection!
I can hear the mosquitoes breeding.
removing any doubt about your current mood.
Cheer up — my scabs are all itching like crazy.
Ah yes, I can’t see the green reflections for the mosquito breeding ground.
I’m just sort of blah. I’m making Cincinnati style chili (4- way) for dinner, and I’m sitting down to my bowl of edamame for lunch. And ice water. Lots and lots of ice water.
you can eat chili in weather like this?
And ‘fess up — you’re just in bad mood because you’re pining for Hopeful.
That’s my favorite part of having the AC cranked up to overdrive.
I was going to make a salad with romaine, cold potatoes and green beans, tuna, hard boiled eggs and kalamata olives, but then I discovered C wasn’t working and he would have hated that dinner. So that’s tomorrow when he is working.
I do miss the dogs. Even my sister’s yappy little mini pinscher.
of course if you were a good ego-stroker, you would have said you were pining for me.
That salad sounds good. Do you use new potatoes?
Usually I use new potatoes because I’m too lazy to peel and they have nice thin skins. I loved, loved, loved that yummy salad you made when I was there. I also loved, loved, loved being waited on. š
I like new potatoes. Jim wants to know what kind of dressing you use.
(I was going to say I loved waiting on you but it sounds really weird)
I usually mix some lemon juice and olive oil with a little dijon and salt and pepper.
I loved having you wait on me. The Frech maid suit was a little much though. But Jim looked cute in it.
well we probably should have made him wear something under the apron so we didn’t have to look at all that grizzled gray chest hair.
You have no idea how difficult it was to find it in my size.
Oh yes! I can imagine!
I have a relatively “normal” sized body – still a bit on the fluffy side… yet it is so difficult to find wonderful and flattering nighty naughty wear.
š
The size 15 pumps were fabulous!
in photoshop.
if only? š
I can put things into pictures but as my ill-fated attempt to get Marmotdude into rubber underwear proved, I lack the skill to dress them.
I stole your dog. Did I forget to have Sniff sign a waiver?
I’ve got to brave the heat and run downtown.
Later.
It is just too damn hot outside. George was actually asking for a bath so he could cool off. I told him one day we would make it up to the cold frosty north.
Oops I forgot. It’s hot up there too. š
Sounds like George might like a Slip ‘n Slide š
As old as I am, he would have to wait his turn for the Slip ‘n Slide. š
You’ll have to ask Damnit Ryan about a particular Slip ‘n slide “incident” when we were young. š I was evil.
Can’t imagine you being evil Janet. š
Damnit Ryan told some of the DC people of my evilness š
Better watch out. š
After I’m done with “where mountains are nameless” which I can no longer read at night because it keeps me awake and angry…
I’m going to get Kabul in Winter. Thanks
I’m outtie for a bit. Going to attempt to make a cheesecake with Danni and we’ll try to get Wes to help, too. Chocolate Espresso Cheesecake.
In that case, don’t read Kabul in Winter at night either.
Have fun with the kids — let them clean up the mess.
Day reading š
Crimes against Nature – RKF Jr
Stop the Next war Now – effective responses to violence and terrorism – MEdea Benjamin & Jode Evans with frwd/intro by Alice Walker and Arundhati Roy
Oh… Nancy Pickard novel
Bob Dylan’s Chronicles
plus a plethora of Rolling Stones and Mother Jones
Shhh I’m telling the kids they can’t stomp or holler or the cake will not turn out right. š
You do realize that any book mentions in the cafe are likely to find themselves in the Powell’s ads at some point, don’t you? š
I forgot about that š HEy how ya doing CabinGirl?
Where today we are at 97 actual temp and 106 heat index with the humidity! And I thought it was brutal this past weekend, where my brief excursions outside brought me (and the dogs) back in feeling woozy … today we surpassed even that. Well, it IS July after all, especially with our moaning earlier in the month about how cool it was, lol.
Yet another stultifying day at work (almost over, give me 40 more min!) where, typically, I had to run my space heater all day (and dressed in long sleeves taboot!) again due to the refrigeration in this office. Insane, I tell yas, insane!
Guess the weeds will get a respite for another day or two until it’s reasonable enough to get out and pull the suckers … but will I get them with a vengeance when that happens!
Hope everyone is having a bearable Monday, and Andi, that shot of Sniff is just too cute for words. Have you thought of going into the K9 greeting card business? We’ll see if the few who send me birthday cards will stay true to form this year and get me more with dogs on them… I got a Cardigan Corgi one last year that I actually kept because the dog was so cute. With your wit, Andi and your photos, you could possibly clean up in that racket! (Well I’d buy some at least…, lol).
Stay cool everyone, and I hope to check back in later when household duties have been taken care of for the evening …
Nice to see you IVG! I’ve been thinking about you while watching my flowers wilt and die from the cool comfort of my kitchen. I won’t even venture out to water them anymore.
I’ve not been around much lately due to crazy workload and a stubborn bout of depression that has hit me again, but I’m trying to ease myself back into being more sociable again (with varying degrees of success, lol). I guess you were travelling last week? Saw a couple of comments from you in some cafe I think.
Our flowers are still looking pretty good despite the heat, though they did take an awful beating from a violent storm that came through last Thurs night… haven’t been out much to stake some back up yet due to the heat. Our perennial hibiscus are on the verge of popping anytime now, and I’ll make sure to post pics here and at the blog when they do. Our coneflowers are gorgeous, but they sneer at hot dry weather and just keep on trooping, as do some of the other heat lovers.
Maybe you could slather yourself up in repellant after dark, sneak out and water your poor plants then … or spray the yard with that Cutter stuff we use (which reminds me we need to do that again soon) to kill the mosquitoes.
I expect it’s pretty nasty hot out your way as well, so take care, stay as cool as possible and see you soon!
So if I were coneflower I could use my natural sneer to really good effect and stop finding this frelling heat horrible?
Depression? Did someone say depression? Sorry, I’ve become like a born-again Christian that just has to share the good news these days. I’m ready to sell Effexor on street corners it’s worked so well for me. I feel like the person I thought I was when I was 19.
Choc. Espresso Cheesecake is in the oven, without the 1/2 cup of graham crackers we forgot to add to the 2 cups. ACK
Oh and yesterday I was asked why I don’t like air shows and didn’twant to attend yesterdays. … There was a horrible crash yesterday, killing the pilot and destroying three homes.
I was asked earlier that day if I was going to the air show. No effing way. Even though I grew up around Air Stations and grew up thinking the Blue Angels were stars… I just can’t bear the “stunts”, the “fake failings” and then the ever possibily of death. At least with car races they don’t fake engine failure.
The crowd couldn’t tell for the longest time if it was staged or real due to all the earlier stunts which one consisted of a wing coming detached. Untill they saw the black smoke.
Danni is named for a dear girlfriend of mine who raced cars and planes… and was valedictorian. She quit racing planes after a terrible air show.
Happy Hour open.
