Saturday Painting Palooza Vol. 50 Celebration!!!

Welcome back! Come join our 50th edition party!!!

This week we celebrate a half century of Saturday Morning Painting.  Well, at least it seems like 50 years in blog time.  When I started this series, (what was I thinking?) I wasn’t quite sure where I was going.  Now 50 volumes later, I’ll continue to offer the gradual painting progressions that I do currently.

Of course, I want to thank everyone for your continued support.  Your comments and recommendations have been appreciated.

This week we’ll be continuing with the painting of Wild Horse Butte, a scene from southern Utah.  It is seen in the photo directly below.

When last we met, the paiting appeared as it does directly below.  It was merely a silhouette of the butte with no details added.

Since that time I’ve been a bit lazy.  I’ve painted in the first layer of the sky.  I will probably darken it slightly and add the small cloud seen on the right side of the photo.  It does start to bring things together.  The current state of the painting is seen directly below.

In the coming weeks I will further develop the surface and shadows of the butte and continue with the sky.

And now I have a surprise.  In addition to the paintings I show here every Saturday, I have some others that I have been working on from time to time.  One of these is seen directly below.

This painting was begun some time ago.  I have been told that it is similar to a work by another artist.  I can assure you that it is an original piece and any resemblance to other paintings is purely coincidental.  And I can assure you that if there is another similar painting in existance, mine was the first.  In any event, I will continue with the work, especially the smile.

Well, thanks for stopping by to help me celebrate!  I’ll see you next week.
