Is there a way to post YouTube vids here? I would very much like to post political or music vids…

I think that YouTube only supports certain blogging software to allow embedding at this point. Outside of that, if you downloaded and hosted one yourself you could probably embed it as I believe Chris does. Hopefully he’ll be along to explain how he does it.
Just copy and paste the from the box labled “Embed” that displays in the “About This Video” box that displays just to the right of the movie on the YouTube page. It will look something like this, but with out the quotes — “<object width=”425″ height=”350″><param name=”movie” value=”http://www.youtube.com/v/P4TbrgIdm0E”></param><embed src=”http://www.youtube.com/v/P4TbrgIdm0E” type=”application/x-shockwave-flash” width=”425″ height=”350″></embed></object>” Just paste it into your post. I think it should work with diaries.
Looks like I should have tested a diary first. No, it doesn’t work. Bummer. Maybe we can harrass Booman into including the <object> tag as an acceptable diary and comment tag. It works fine in front page stories, so I just assumed it was cool here.
a setting was changed. I was able to embed the YouTube video for Pink’s Dear Mr. President in my diary here. I tried to check out the code but it’s in ‘Show Mode’ (whatever that means)
Did you have it set to plain text or html formating?
awhile, but I think it was html.
I honestly think if Booman did that this would grow the site.
but we need to be careful — it tends to screw up my Firefox page (I think it may be a conflict with the Adblock extension, which I don’t use here but I do use at Orange Empire). Plus, I don’t know what effect the embedded clips have on our dial-up users (yes, some folks can’t get broadband), or on workplaces that employ limited blocking techniques (such as images).
I would personally prefer a link to the page with the video (with an indication that it’s a video link) so I can decide if I want to take a look, then open it so I can copy the link in Safari if the page looks screwy (Safari is a bit more forgiving than Firefox).
Just my $0.02…
